Re: iHeart radio: Mariah whistles (83,955) (83,976)

The Breakfast Club radio people along with others they interviewed, kept saying how they wanted to see Mariah the most. The crazy part is the fact that it seems like the only people that don't want to see Mariah is her "fans".

Article: Mariah's "GTFO" single fails to chart, sell, or stream (83,975)

Why would you even put this up, when we all know "GTFO" was #2 on iTunes for a few days? He's just talking bullsh.t, and putting this up lends credence to him.

Mariah the songwriter first (83,973)
by Bobby A from United States

Many people forget that MC is one of the best songwriters this generation will ever know. My top 10 favorite songs where she just really wrote the best lyrics ever. We can't deny she is gifted with writing thought provoking heartfelt lyrics. I can't wait to hear what she has to say on MC15. We are going to be pulling out our dictionaries like we did in the early 1990s. One and Only is my top pick because so may people could relate to it. The lyrics flowed so well that it was almost like she was going to breakout in a rap towards the middle of the song. 1. One and Only - Lyrical rap queen. 2. I Wish You Well - Brillant Bible verse references. 3. Melt Away - Where are you Babyface? MC15 maybe? 4. Outside - Hasn't never been another one this good. 5. My Saving Grace - Showed she can write a gospel classic. 6. Faded - She put MikeWillMadeIt to work on this one. 7. Vanishing - Songwriter skills beyond her years. 8. Vision of Love - A 19 year wrote this gem? Wow. 9. Love Take Time - We miss Walter A's instrumentation. 10. Love Story - Better lyrics than WBT. Johnta Austin all over this gem. And so many more to name. What are your favorite songs that show her gift as a songwriter?

"Without You" the live version (83,969)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|

Somehow I never really cared for this song especially the studio version found on the "Music box" album until I watched the performance at Proctor's Theater. Wow. That was the moment that song took on a different form and revealed itself to me so to speak and I got it. That performance is so powerful and to me is stronger than what was put down on wax even production wise. Anytime I want to play this song I find myself gravitating more to the live version.

Some people tend to think Mariah would, out of the blue, pull her 90's voice back and wow us all, but that's never going to happen. I think the damage is done. I still think she could be consistent with what's left though. The iHeart set was stiff but decent overall. She finally walked a few steps without help, that's improvement right there, she should be given the "Heel Of Steel Award" for that. Once she masters her corset-voice, she would be on point, but it takes time. It's not easy singing with all your vital organs canned into a corset without sounding like a deflating balloon, the woman must've been suffering just to entertain us, credit where credit is due. I can't wait for new single to be released. I have a feeling the new single will be featuring a huge star of the moment to give Mariah the push she needs. Finger crossed.

It's a decent performance that can be improved (83,967)
by jaker20 from US

Performance isn't always about great vocals. A few things that lift it above typical Mariah. One is she actually didn't lip that much. She did, but less so than previous ones. That intro of Emotions was kind of rough but she tried and that's what matters most. We all know she added that song just to remind us who owns that song. Second, she actually moved more than usual. This is the part that she needs to put more effort cause the audience come alive during ABMB when she moved around. She should have brought her quirky one liners and playfulness that we see during her shows. But she's very insecure that night, she doesn't want to interact much. Still an improvement from past where she just stands and doesn't even talk. Third, the vocals are surprisingly better. She is more rested. Her timings are good. She knew when she's gonna hit it or not and learned to adjust. Look, how many times do you need to be told that her voice has changed? You just need to get used to it because frankly we've seen worse.

I can appreciate that MC gave a set list that caters to both new and old. Even though vocally it was not pitch perfect she did put on a good showing, also her confidence is showing up a lot more which I am really happy about that. Lastly she looked like the superstar she is. Also I am glad that the general public received her well.

Yes there were a few issues with iHeart, namely GTFO but overall I genuinely really enjoyed myself a lot which speaking only for myself, is the point. It was a much more solid performance throughout. I bet she was nervous, I would be too every move I made was under constant scrutiny and disapproval by the public and the fans. No, I don't always agree with the diva characterization she chooses or the sex symbol image she loves to amplify. I don't think she needs all that. I'm a less is more type person and I love seeing Mariah under less pressure to be all that stuff and just be. But, I still love her. Yes she has vocal issues, there's rasp now. She's been using backing track for ages. But, the fans have been asking her to sing more live than she has been recently, and she's been doing that. Her costumes were more flattering. One day she won't be around anymore, and all we will have is videos of old performances. We can't do anything about the voice or the backing track and I get the fact that she has disappointed people, fair enough. But at some point if watching her stops being enjoyable it does make you wonder. She's going to do what she does. Things don't have to be taken so seriously.

This actually isn't Mariah's "big comeback single" and they said as much right from the start. It's just a fan track, and I doubt they expected it to do much. It has, however, gotten people to talk about Mariah. Which was the intent.

Enough is enough (83,961)
by Bill from the UK

Trawling through these comments is both hilarious and sad, really. There's a lot of psychiatrists, sound technicians, and corset voice effects experts on this message board. Who knew? Nikki, as you addressed me directly I shall do the same. New scratchy pre records do not a live performance make. What was live was a handful of blunt "eh's", a few yelled "got me feeling's", an off key "sweeeeeet" and a "shoo be doo be doo" thrown in for good measure. GTFO was indeed lipped, the video evidence where she isn't even lipping in time with the playback is all you need. The sparkly outfit was good though so that's something.

Congrats to Shawn. He got married in Beverly Hills yesterday. It's possible that Pat was there, but I didn't see any pictures of her. Roc and Roe were stylish and resplendent in their formal wedding attire. Mimi had on a pretty gold gown that looked familiar.

I agree with Randy and Marissa posts. Yes, there were some parts that sounded bad but overall I thought it was a decent performance. The crowd seemed to enjoy it. For me it's like no matter what Mariah does her fans as a whole will never be satisfied. We tend to (and I am guilty of this too) focus way too much on the negative. Can we at least give her credit for performing six damn songs on tv? When was the last time sh$t happened? We all have different point of views and obviously we see things through different prisms. Mariah for the most part was singing live. GTFO was totally lipped but I give her kudos for singing Emotions live and ABMB was a good live vocal performance. So yeah, I enjoyed the performance and Mariah was not nervous, she was uncomfortable because she know good darn well her girdle was too damn tight.

She did seem nervous. She can not help it. One aspect being diagnosed with bipolar disorder is also having anxiety. I understand completely how she can experience anxiety when she is not in her normal element. There were people in the audience who were not there just to see her. Trauma affects everybody differently. And childhood trauma especially is not easy to get over. The abusive years with Tommy really exasorbated her already undiagnosed bipolar disorder. Pre 1997, we got the confident Mariah who could command the stage and mask her insecurities. Post 1997 to the Glitter era, we saw a change in her voice and her eventual public breakdown. She could no longer mask her bipolar disorder. It manifested itself on that same stage that she could command easily when she first began her singing career. There are big diva things that MC does that can be a direct result of her bipolar disorder. Sometimes she over does things and fixates on them to make her feel like she is in control and not being controlled. Remember how she use to dress scantily after she and Nick separated. Remember how she gave MIAM such a long weird album title with 17 tracks. Remember when she named her puppies those weird names. Remember how she started lying down while singing and being interviewed. She is the queen of petty - I don't know her. And she refuses to collaborate again with the producer who gave her some of her biggest hits - Walter A. And her most vocalize fixation - not being filmed on her left side and having the best lighting. Tommy and Christie Brinkley told her that and she never let it go. I understand MC completely and that's why I connected with her music. I am different too. Some of you probably already knew that. I am Robert-Anthony.

iHeart radio: Mariah whistles (83,955)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
Familiarity does not breed any kind of indifference, at least among fellow celebrities, as virtually every performer or presenter Variety surveyed backstage named Carey as the artist they were most excited about seeing on the evening's bill. When we posed that question to Panic. At the Disco frontman Brendan Urie, he was instantaneous with his answer: "Dude, Mariah. I want to kiss her feet and the ground she walks on. She's a goddess. I want to hear those whistle tones." He then proceeded to break into a pretty good approximation of those "Emotions" high notes that pierced the hallways. ~ Variety

For an introvert, never. Mariah won't let anyone in the studio with her while she's laying down vocals, so why would singing in front of a crowd get any easier? Even veteran performers say they get the jitters, it's not just Mariah. Although, I think her issue has more to do with being breathless while wearing a corset more than anything else. She didn't sound bad, she had a rasp. That's not new. Yes, she needs her ear monitors to hear the music just like every other singer in existence if she'd like to stay in key. Ever see a singing lesson Randy? If you haven't, no vocal coach says, "sing in C minor". The coach either sings the notes themselves and have the student match the note by singing it back to them or play the note on an instrument and have the student match it that way.

Clutching at straws (83,953)
by Lee from UK

Mariah did sound better after loosening/removing the corset and then covering it with the cardigan. She still had to lip the climax of ABMB though. I cannot believe we are at a point where we are all happy that Mariah can now walk unassisted. Are we clutching at straws? Perhaps if Mariah wore a cardigan and flats all the time, and took out her raggaedy magic hair, she would sound miles better.

Victoria, please don't ever leave the USA to come to the UK. It seems like Trump has really done a number on you guys; normalising violence against those you disagree with. If you did come to the UK we would have to organise for giant baby blimp to be floated along the streets in protest and to be honest, hun, we have too much on our hands with Brexit.
