Re: Butterfly returns set (82,887) (82,891) by Licia from USA
Lol. Now you know there has to be dancing for obvious reasons. I'm so angry she'll be gone from Vegas when I'm supposed to go. She should stretch that Vegas run to November so I can ring in my birthday right.

Also no to that lobster dress she wore in during the initial set of shows. That pink/salmon colored one with the weird collar. But yes, the set looks nice and classy. I wonder what songs she has short listed.

Re: Me. I Am Mariah (interview/special) (82,886) (82,889) by Edouard from France
Hi Billy. I totally agree with you. I was amazed by her tone during the SSF tour, actually. Some parts where lips here and there (we all know where exactly and frankly there aren't that many) but she worked the transition to perfection. Sometimes we don't realize that some parts of Mariah's voice have actually become much stronger compared to earlier in her career. I think she knows her instrument so much better now whereas before she would just sing whatever her circumstances because she just could. She was younger and therefor more in shape, she was also less in charge of everything, she also didn't have 2 babies to take care of. Noone really seems to ask: how does Mariah handle it when her kids have a cold, for instance? I highly doubt she'd say "bye kids I'm leaving for the islands until you get better". No she's there for her kids and probably exposes herself to germs just like any parent would do. And then she has to go onstage, worried sick because her kids have a fever, and with early symptoms of a cold herself. Giving her kids and her lambs her all.

Butterfly returns set (82,887) by RibbonB from USA
Mimi posted a board of the new set and I am intrigued. There is even an area for an orchestra. I am due a vacay, might have to spend it on Vegas for this. I hope the focus will be on live singing and live musicians. And please no to low dancing for various reasons.

Hi Edouard. I agree with everything you said regarding the tour. I was at the Amsterdam concert, my first Mariah tour ever. It was amazing hearing her voice live, which made me "understand" it better, its highs and lows, the "weight" that it carries, and the truly heavenly tone she has. Apart from that, the band sounded really great live, which I did not realize from the videos on YouTube. It was also clear that this was done by an artist who truly knows her job very well, despite the inconsistencies we have witnessed at times.

Re: Me. I Am Mariah (interview/special) (82,884) (82,885) by Edouard from France
Hi Billy. That interview was very bizarre to me because it was obvious that Mariah was in a place that we were not aware of. it's like they were trying to dissipate a rumor that I was not even aware of at the time. It felt weird because as a fan I felt I was not in sync with where she was at. Do you know what I mean? Also the SSFT was amazing, really. I'm not a big fan of the "let's go down memory lane" kind of tours, but I thought it was done with taste and her stamina was quite incredible considering everything she was going through.

Me. I Am Mariah (interview/special) (82,884) by Billy from Greece
This is the main interview/special that promoted the album back in 2014, done with the quite sleazy Matt Lauer. I remember how sad she looked during the entire thing, even during the performances. By that point she had already broken up with Nick yet it was not out yet, still quite obvious. Mind you that this was also the last Mariah era prior to the "nightmare era" that started in 2015 and culminated in 2017 (though 2015 was pretty decent, and we got the SSFT in 2016, yet you know what I'm referring to).

This is a great cross section of Mimi's 28 year career. I've heard some say they feel like "One Sweet Day" doesn't hold up in 2018... apparently it still does.

New album (82,881) by Andrew from UK
How can you construe that Mariah has any care for anything but touring and making as much money as possible? Her tours are sewn up for this year. The album will be next year followed by a for-the-sake-of-it tour, by which time many of you will have died of boredom, I will have died of boredom, the public will have died of boredom and everyone who has not died of boredom will be telling Mariah how amazing she is as she steps over the dying to congratulate herself on another massive [censored] up with a glass of champagne whilst the die-hards on here come up with every excuse under the sun as to her inability to sell well or chart, but never really putting it down to just how [censored] boring she has made herself. Other artists put effort in. Mariah is on one agonisingly slow, drunken, hand-held, high-heeled march toward musical oblivion. But there's always Christmas so we can [censored] in unison about a song released 24 years ago. Good times.

Re: Greatest performance ever? (82,877) (82,880) by Andrew from UK
Nobody in the game can do what? Sing live? I don't know what you look like but I often imagine you [censored] at Mariah YouTube videos. Honestly, it's like the MCA version of watching teenage girls blu-tac Nick Carter cut-outs from magazines to their walls and announce how perfect he is in every way. Heads up: don't none of those girls got to be married to Nick Carter. You get me? The world you wish to live in is not even remotely comparable to the beauty and truth of the world in which you actually do live.

I agree Stacey. This was an excellent performance. As you said she looked like she enjoyed herself. Her being so comfortable and just going with the flow is what made this performance so great for me.

Greatest performance ever? (82,876) by Stacey from USA
I'm going to go a different route and say her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. No, it's not your typical performance per se. She ad-libbed a lot and you could tell she was enjoying herself. With a typical performance, concert, etc., there is the opportunity to perfect the performance through dubbing, playback, etc. I guess she could have done it here too, but I doubt it.

Re: Greatest Mariah performance ever (?) (82,847) (82,875) by B from USA
Mariah's version of The Star Spangled Banner was elegant and hopeful, somber yet uplifting. She did an excellent job. She needs that determination she used to have.

Why isn't Mariah workings with The Smeezington's and Bruno? Make it happen Mariah. His team could seamlessly update Mariah's signature sound. She should also work with other top producers.

(82,872) by Bobby A from United States
This year has been really awesome for MC. Probably her best year since 2006 and 2008. Every week she is receiving a lot positive photos and stories about her. She is really looking beautiful and happy. We can see it in her eyes and hear it in voice during interviews. The public is loving her right now for just being Mariah and not Mariah the diva that Stella encouraged. She has been very honest this year about her personal struggles. I feel it is only going to get better. I bet her voice is sounding really good right now. I can't wait to read the reviews after her July 5th The Butterfly Returns show. The world ain't ready for the new music she is about to unleash this year. Everything is pointing towards her most anticipated album since TEOM. When the first single drops on iTunes, we should do something special to give her a Hot 100 top 10 debut.

Re: Mariah and Britney... maybe? (82,866) (82,871) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
As long as Mariah willingly collaborates with another female artist that isn't a rapper then I'm all for it. Lover her or hate her, despite Britney's limited (nasal) vocal capabilities, she is still able to hold her own amongst the stronger, more musically talented competition because of her uniquely recognizable tone, even when severely autotuned. Like I said before, she is a good vocal actress and is the perfect muse for experimental producers. She knows her limits, never pushes too far, and even sounds quite alluring when she uses her voice well. Her last album was her most critically well-received outing since Blackout. Should there any be truth to this rumor, the next big question after "what will it be?" and "how will it sound?" will be "whose project will it officialy be on?" Mariah's? Britney's? Both? Neither? It could suck. It could sound fine. And it could also be a bop. Whatever it turns out to be, it's definitely something. One of the more interesting rumors in a while.

Re: Mariah the trendsetter (82,864) (82,870) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
While I agree with your point, I believe MIAMTEC is more of a "varied" album rather than "avant garde" if we're really being strict with the term. Nothing about is groundbreaking, and all of the sounds there were either current or past trends, but she still was able to create an expansive collection of sounds that, while still are clearly rooted in R&B and pop, don't sound monotonous. It's her most varied-sounding release because of the circumstances it has been recorded in. In its 5 years of creation, she has been pulled and pushed into many directions. While one would expect a very disjointed final product as a result, it all impressively flows as one body of work. That's her skill - she takes an idea/trend and makes it her own and manages to make it one of the best executions of such. It's her masterful take on any sound/genre that sets her apart from the rest who do the same. You just know that in the hands of less capable artists, a MIAMTEC-style album would have been a disaster. Even her worst songs such as Infinity and Infamous, as underwhelming as they are for an artist of Mariah's caliber, would have been considered achievements and career highlights for other artists.

Re: Mariah the trendsetter (82,864) (82,869) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Yes, that album has some trendy songs. I loved the retro vibe from "Meteorite" right after the first listen. The same with "Make it look good". "Beautiful" and "Dedicated" are so much fun to listen to. "The art of letting go" is like a good wine. It needs time to get better. The song didn't connect with me when the cd came out. Now I love it more and more. Somehow it's like a combination from the "old" and "new" Mariah. One of my favorites from the album.

Re: Mariah the trendstter (82,867) by Nikki from usa
I agree with you wholeheartedly. That seems to have always been the case. From her birth of hip-pop to even the 80's style resurgence circa '03-'05. She may have received a lot of crap for Glitter, but the styles came back. The off the shoulder and asymmetrical tops and dresses. The music sampling and style was reminiscent 80's. Even J.Lo ripped off Flashdance for one of her music videos. Now, all the retro Mariah did in her last studio album is what everyone else is doing.
I feel like Mariah's last album was in the same vein as her Emotions album. It also had all the throwbacks to different time periods, but actually included Jazz. Even her pics from that day were saluting different time periods.
Do you remember Milli Vanili? When they got caught lipping it was Mariah who was doubted as a live singer because she hadn't gone on tour yet. So, we got the live Unplugged performance. She's in a similar boat now due to those staged performances. It seems like Mariah's reliving herself to an extent. I almost hope so, because that means we get another televised live Unplugged performance that will be released as an EP. Then a whole new direction. Viva la Mariah.
