Re: The video (83,797) (83,802)

I agree with what you are saying, this is exactly why I don't love the video. I was hoping for something different, something more real. I love her more conservative style down to Earth and perhaps sporty style.

GTFO response (83,801)
by Liz Archer from Sweden
| |
|
|
I think the song it self is descent, catchy enough, but I don't like the video. Here is my reasons why. She seems very stiff and there is too much posing, weird positions. Don't like her clothing (too over the top and doll like, not my style) even though she looks overall nice (if only it was with better style). The glass of wine is, in my opinion, giving the wrong signal. Not a great look. But on its own the song is catchy and I might listen to it a few times on iTunes.

I love the song, the video is just ok (83,799)

I meant to post my feelings about the song yesterday. I know you all were waiting with baited breath. Anyway, I judged it based on the title too early. I think it would be a hit if she was understandable. The words get lost in her warbling but I gotta tell you, I'm glad it has a clear hook and the music puts me in a dreamlike hypnosis without being repetitive because she cut the song soooooo short. I've been playing the song all day because I wanted to hear it, not because I wanted it to grow on me. I do like that she could probably sing this live and she better not have any backing vocalist on stage if she does sing it live as there are none on the song. The video however would've been fine as a cheap throwback to DFAU had she had a man in it and she didn't have on those damn leotard/bathing suits she wears. Line from Glitter "I want to break you out of that street, sassy, slutty, stuff you are wearing." Her hair and makeup is gorgeous. I'm proud of MiMi. It's like she's been listening to us a bit. And you know how hard I can be on her.

GTFO (83,798)
by T from USA
| |
|

Here's how I see it all playing out. Mariah is coming back bigger and better than ever. The first offering GTFO is great. I can imagine how much hype this song and video would've gotten had she not recreated the breakup theme so many times in the past few years (You're Mine, Infinity, I Don't) with all the videos being similar as well. If she had stayed away since MCIIY and having kids with Nick and then came back with GTFO this year (eight years later looking like that) it would've blown the minds off of everybody but at this point if feels like she's a little over saturated. The disgruntled diva has been played a lot. At least now she's less victim and that started with Stella and "I Don't". Also, she is hot we know that but how much hotter would've she been in this video if she had jeans and shirt on? When Mariah gets it right with clothes she really gets it right. (I'm looking at you "The roof".) I can only hope that we all share the video and song on all our social medias because sometimes all it takes a person to listen to the song who otherwise wouldn't have to get one more sale. The first single "With You" is going to be massive I can just tell.

There is nothing more boring than a "I'm so sexy" video. The videos in the 80ies and 90ies were a pleasure to watch. Still almost every video from that time is better than today's "videos". Yes, I know those times are gone. Don't get me wrong I love a glamorous video like "I still believe". The MM tribute was such a cool idea. And the "army outfit", just wow. Or the black and white video from "Can't let go", classy and more than beautiful without showing too much.

Yup, this song won't be played for decades. "Anytime you need a friend" and "Honey" are musical diamonds compared to "GTFO". I even like "I don't" more than this song. It sounds so mainstream, not like a Mariah song. Congratulations for the number one, but a number one doesn't make a good song. A lot of Mariah's best songs weren't even released or are just b-singles.

I actually love the song and like the video. Mariah looks hot as hell in that video so I'm not going to hate but the sex kitten act, vanity shots, and drinking damn wine is so tired. Straight I hope when I'm 50 I can rock lingerie like that, lol.

The video (83,793)
by Matthew from USA

Quite a few female artists do music videos that are just a series of glamour shots. They fall into two categories, the serious and carefree. Nicki Minaj and JLo are examples of artists who go hard on the glamour shots. It's serious. Every shot is like I am so very sexy. SZA would be an example of an artist where even though the videos are pretty much all glamour shots, it's a little more carefree. Early Mariah did carefree sexy very well. Fantasy, Dreamlover, ABMB, even One Sweet Day (though it's not that type of song). But our girl has gotten to the point where she can't help but pose for her life in the videos now. Even on songs like #Beautiful or GTFO which has a breezy island vibe, she's in Victoria Secret supermodel mode. I guess she needs a storyboard with something to act out, otherwise she will default to going hard on I am so very seriously sexy route. I wish she would give us a sprinkle of carefree sexy every now and then, which shouldn't be so hard because her instagram is full of normal moments where the woman looks sexy without trying. But as long as the music is good I will be content.

I think Mariah knows radio won't play her anymore anyway so she just let those lyrics honest out. I like where this is going. The beats and the melody is Mariah in her most inspired in a long time.

I actually think the video is pretty good. I didn't exactly have my hopes set high so I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked the dead of night setting (Crybaby vibes, I agree) and the cut away shots of the sink overflowing, the curtains billowing, all quite arty. Plus Mariah looks amazing, it must be said. But, she could still pull it off without resorting to the lingerie outfit, if only someone would tell her. She looked sexy running through a field in a flannel shirt and jean shorts back in the day for heaven's sake, so she doesn't need to be as in your face about it. But it is what it is.

Mariah Is the only artist I know that can give everybody such clever kiss off lyrics to say. Lol. Oh, by the way how many of you think With You is a ballad produced by JD or No ID? I am thinking it's the song Bobby Ross Avila and Johnta Austin was doing in the studio together with MC and JD. Three weeks until it drops.

GTFO (83,788)

I actually liked it. Definitely an improvement from I Don't. The song is amusing because it has a slow beat but the lyrics are ruthless lol. When I saw the video last night I thought it's awful, another I Don't mess. Then I saw it again today and I kinda got it. Mariah is in an apartment probably must after sending her man out the door, dishes are undone and she's adjusting. It's not high concept, very 80s even 90s, I would have wanted a bit more interesting, like Mariah walking down the street or driving. Still overall, it's growing on me, her best effort since Beautiful, in fact that video really has no concept either.

My experience with the Meet & Greet (83,786)
by RD from South Africa
| |
|
|
I was lucky enough to get a meet and greet ticket for the September 10th show in Vegas. Mariah did not disappoint at all as her vocals sounded really good live and she even did a snippet of "Outside" for the first time ever. She looked amazing, very classy and the show was sold out. Everybody stood up from their seats for the entire performance and went wild after every song. The few of us who had meet and greet passes were told to wait after the show at a designated point. We were then verified and taken downstairs to a waiting room and waited for about 15 minutes. A young lady came out and told us that Mariah is in the next room. She gave us a briefing about what to do and what not to do. We were called in, one at a time. When it was my turn, Mariah called my name and I almost froze. I told her that I came all the way from South Africa for this show and she thanked me and was so nice. She said to me that she loves my jacket and that she saw me in the audience. I told her how much her music has meant to me and that I felt blessed just standing next to her. She was really sweet and kind. I brought a gift for her but had to give it to her assistant who would screen it first before Mariah received it. I told Mariah that I brought a gift for her and she said "thanks". I had about 3 minutes with Mariah and then they took the photo. In the photo, Mariah put her arms around my shoulder and I put mine over hers, but I see that, when they sent me the photo, it was edited out as you can see on my profile pic. I don't know why they did that but overall, I am so grateful for the experience. I must say, in reality, Mariah looks extremely beautiful. The pictures and videos of her do not do justice as she looks and smells like a goddess when you see her face to face. I will never forget this experience as it was priceless.

The song is good, everything about it just flows. The video is the typical MC we always see in videos but hey, it was done tastefully unlike Infinity and I Don't. I can't criticize it that much because it is the most decent song she released since #Beautiful and it's just a buzz single so I'll just reserve that hate and mean comments with the actual lead single of MC15 haha. Have a nice day everyone.

Congratulations Mariah. I love the song. My boyfriend, who's very harsh on Mariah, loves GTFO too. It's a new sound for her. I love the arrangements. It has a retro vibe but yet sounds current. No rappers, new arrangements, no "verse - chorus - verse - chorus - bridge - chorus" kinda song. Good effort, Mariah. I usually don't like Mariah overusing the whisper tone but it fits with the hypnotic and smooth mood of the song. I don't enjoy the video that much, although I like that it makes you feel like a voyeur ha ha. I like the lightening and she looks stunning but I don't like her sexualized image. She doesn't need that, we all know she's sexy but I wish she would drop that a little bit. What I enjoy the most is that this is new material. It fits her current voice, and if she brings a whole new album this could mean she would stop singing Vision of Love and Hero again and again. I'm tired of the Vegas residency and tired of seeing her perform the same f*cking songs instead of singing others from her huge catalogue. We all fell in love with 90's Mariah. No current artist could ever compare to the first, let's say 15 years of her career. After TEOM her creativity, voice and image started to get worse. She made some good tracks and she gave some good performances in this last decade, but we all felt she needed to explore new music styles; no more We Belong Together sound (DFAU, Bye Bye, Angels Cry...), no more rappers, no more r&b. She's too young to rely on her greatest hits, and I'm glad she's back with new music. At least GTFO is out of her comfort zone. It hasn't got a lot of layering and backing vocals which sometimes can annoy me. Sometimes less is more. This being said, I love to listen to GTFO at home, it has an intimate sexy and smoothy sound, but it's not a song to perform live. It wouldn't sound good. I don't care about if she promote this live or not, as long as she brings new material and singles like this. By the way I hate that she's working again with JD. As Andrew said a long time ago, yes, "we all know this is is". I hope the rappers featured on this album don't annoy me that much.

The Social Justice Warrior diatribe about ageism being why Mariah hasn't sold anything in a decade is, ironically, getting old. Young people buy music the most. They identify with young artists. It's not an -ism or representative of bad character for them to do so - in the same way that young people tend to date people of their own age and not 50 year olds. However I recall Cher reaching number one at a ripe age. If you have a stone winner of a song it will get noticed no matter how many grey hairs you are hiding.

The profanity is not lazy, it works well with the song, the theme etc. What is lame is that Mariah is resorting to cheap tricks to get noticed. She continues to cheapen herself without hindrance. The video is shameful and hideous. Is she so content with being known as an alcoholic lush? Has she left no self-respect? No sense of decency? No new ideas? No money for an actual video? I think the world has paid more dues looking at those tits than she did money buying them. And of the song, calling it a "buzz" single is disingenuous at best. It is from the new album. It has a video. It is available to buy. It is her lead single no matter what tripe her PR machine comes up with "just in case". And, yet, it's quite good. But Anytime You Need A Friend or Honey it is not. You won't be playing it for decades to come.
