I knew I was missing one from CB. You Had Your Chance is sampling I Wanna Do Something Freaky To You by Leon Haywood. I think I'm done now.

There's a website called whosampled.com. Type in MC and it will bring up the songs she used a sample for (credited and not), as well as who sampled her material.

Masters (81,339)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|
|
Masters are the original sound recordings from which all other prints are copied. Masters are owned by either the artist or the label, depending which one paid for the recording/studio time and such. Mariah is usually at least co executive producer on her projects, which likely means she owns her masters. Her contracts tell the whole/true story. None of us know what those say. Masters are different from copyrights which belong to the songwriters/music creators.

Usually when an artist buys the rights to their material it will include everything. Released and unreleased and any demo or working copies.

I saw a interview Mariah did and she said she owns all the Glitter masters and that she recorded 60+ songs for that album.

Anyway here's more. Irresistible used You Know How We Do by Ice Cube or The Westside Connection, Did I Do that used It Ain't My Fault by Master P, Heartbreaker remix is It Ain't No Fun by Snoop Dogg (I think that he used this sample from another song, but I can't think of the name), and My All remix is Stay a Little While by Loose Ends. That's all I can think of right now. I shall be back. Lol.

Article: Is V Magazine trolling us with this Mariah Carey cover? (81,333)
by Andrew from UK

A simple rule of the common law has always been that everyone enjoys the label of innocence until such time as somebody proves their guilt. But looky here, hundreds of years of common law undone by lunatics in just one or two. It is incredible how we have forgotten the foundation of modern Western Society in the face of caterwauling from Social Justice Warriors. Accusations of guilt, no matter how many or how loud, are accusations merely until substantiated with evidence. And further, if somebody makes an unwanted advance toward you, walk out. Do not sell your soul to the devil then ask the good Lord for pity. Another simple rule.

I'm genuinely surprised just how many songs Mariah has sampled. I don't think I'm biased when I say she outshines the originals but damn. I do wonder if this at all impacted on her Grammy accolades? A significant amount of her mainstream hits are based on samples, however you can't argue her song writing ability. In my mind, Mariah should have way more, but I do agree with her recent Grammy reference on being unpopular vs popular.

In the context of the original message, which was questioning why people say DL and HB sound similar, the melodic structure in the chorus is similar. Here's where she talks about the similarities. Honey doesn't fall under that category in terms of similarity to other songs.

I'm confused. Is "Master Recording" Mariah's pressed tracks only or does it include other vocals that were laid doen which were never ofdered for public sale or performance? Essentially, who owns all the stuff she didn't put onto an album such as the unreleased vocals popping up recently?

In my opinion why should remixes be excluded if a sample was used?

If we use that logic we might as well as add Honey to the list. Of course these songs sound like Mariah Carey compositions, she has a signature sound.

After 25 years ownership of master recordings are transferred from the label to the songwriter/songwriters. When Mariah signed her new deal she received ownership of her masters instead of receiving a large advance.

Are you naming the original songs or can I add the remixes with samples to the list? Honey So So Def Remix is Hey Dj by World Famous Supreme Team, ABMB remix uses Tell Me If You Still Care by The SOS Band, and The One Remix uses Goodbye Love by Guy.

Does owning a catalogue mean you would also own the unused vocals or just the copyrighted material? I have no idea.

Mariah herself talked about the comparisons. She even sang the two choruses for DL and HB side by side in an interview (don't know which one but it's on YouTube somewhere) and they do sound very similar. And she even said that they are similar, but only because she wrote both of them, therefore there would be a similar vein to them. As for the GOL, well, I don't know which versions they're listening to, but it's definitely not the same sample by any means.

If the leaks are indeed from Mariah's team, I wish they would put them on her main official channels so that more people can hear them. Or better yet, release the entire vault digitally. I'd pay whatever the asking price is for that. No doubt.

I love this article. Especially when she said that both Jay Z and the other Jay have her working with different cowriters. Seems like she's taking their advice and stepping out of her comfort zone. I'm just glad that she isn't working with JD.
