Thank you. Babydoll is one of my favorites from Butterfly.

It amazes me how she used to encapsulate almost everything about a feeling and/or experience into a short burst of expression. I suppose everyone has thought about what song they would like played at their funeral. Certainly, this version of this song must be the stone-winner for so many lambs now. Been a long while since I sat still in silence long after a song has finished.

So this is all over my twitter feed this morning along with unused vocals from Fourth of July. Beautiful.

Butterfly and everything after (78,371) by Andrew from UK
"She literally had a silver platter with Hennessy and marijuana for us. So we were like 'Ah sh-t. Ah man. Mariah cool as hell.'" Gone were the days of phoning in to ODB and seeing if he'd woken up and recorded another line, it seems. I think Mottola was pretty smart there. Cool as hell? To me it sounds like a silly little girl desperate to be one of the cool kids and look "hood". If she did start drinking Cristal heavily and smoking that loser shit then she deserved to lose her range and her power and I wouldn't feel sorry for her. And therein lies the problem with the Butterly era onwards. The whole planet saw a unique, well crafted and strikingly beautiful talent, somewhat out of the blue take its clothes off, act with extreme vanity, immaturity and desperation and work to destroy its hard earned reputation. Butterfly is a brilliant piece of work - a Magnus Opus, perhaps. It's just a little dispiriting how it seems it had to come about.

Beautiful acapella version of Babydoll. Those harmonies, wow. Happy 20th Butterfly.

Re: Butterfly vinyl (78,357) (78,368) by Ronnie from California
It is mainly for collectors. I don't believe there were unreleased original songs, but she probably has a few remixes up her sleeve. Regardless, this is an event that should be purchased on an individual basis - rather than leaked over the internet for mass consumption. This little celebration are for those who know Mariah the most, I don't think releasing unreleased tracks would be fitting for the 20th anniversary.

Butterfly 20th (78,367) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
Wow this album has aged like fine wine. This album is a moment in time to be in the position that Mariah was in at that time it was like she was starting over and coming into her own all at once. The blend of Hip hop and R&B was perfect without coming off as trying too hard. The ballads were heartfelt, piercing, and full of raw emotion. As ever Mariah's pen game was lethal and unmatched. Butterfly will forever be Mariah's artistic masterpiece and her mega opus that showed who Mariah is as an artist and woman. Happy 20th anniversary Butterfly.

Re: Toni Braxton - Deadwood (78,363) (78,366) by Edward from USA
Toni was asked about dueting with Mariah, and she said she was down, but that she knew they were two divas. She said jokingly, as if they would be demanding stuff, like weave made of unicorn tail or manicure woman for each of their 20 toes and fingers.

Re: Toni Braxton - Deadwood (78,358) (78,365) by Licia from USA
I never thought about her doing One Moment in Time. It would be interesting to hear her take on it. A Same Script Different Cast type between her and Toni would be epic. Shame a lot if my dream duets didn't happen when she was in a better place vocally.

Happy 20th, Butterfly (78,364) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Following the back-to-back blockbuster successes of Music Box and Daydream, Mariah was faced with the near-impossible task of creating a worthy follow-up. As it turns out, she didn't have to worry at all because what she unleashed next is quite possibly her most universally revered outing to date. So what if it didn't burn up the charts the like one that came before? So what if it didn't sell as much as those mammoths? So what if it, like most of her work, was criminally overlooked by the Grammys? Mariah can't get any more timeless than she did with Butterfly. Of all her albums, it's the one that really exudes an atmosphere and a mood of its own thanks to its impressive cohesion.
It's hard to overstate the relevance of this album today as well as its importance to both her and her fans. The beginning of Honey remains to be one of the most inviting intros to any song ever. The title track boasts arguably her most uplifting melody. My All set the standard to which modern Latin-tinged pop ballads are measured. The Roof maintains its alluring sonic mix of danger and intrigue to this day. We still listen to the plush Fourth of July every 4th of July out of tradition. We have all tried to mimic Mariah's brilliant rapid fire delivery of Breakdown's iconic chorus. Everyone feels just a little sexier when Babydoll comes on. I bet only a few songs put us in an introspective mood as Close My Eyes does. We still listen in awe of Mariah's touching top-notch performance in Whenever You Call. Fly Away is a worthy answer to the Daydream Intelude. Mariah's slowed down cover of The Beautiful Ones is hypnotic and mesmerizing. And do we really have to mention how much we've cried relating to Outside?
Mature, elegant and effortlessly sexy, Butterfly is the sound of a woman who has finally found her voice. No wonder she still considers it her favorite. And at only 27 during its release, it's a truly remarkable achievement.

I like Toni's new song, but a Mariah/Toni duet will never happen.

Personally, to me her worst album was Pulse, but you're right, More Than A Woman is also up there, though that album has Do You Remember When and Tell Me, so I'd still listen to it once in a while. And her duet album with Babyface was great as well. The D Word and Reunited are perfection.

Butterfly (78,361) by Billy from Greece
So many great articles about the twentieth anniversary of this masterpiece. I'm filled with all kinds of emotions right now, reliving the splendor of that era, and what Mariah made me feel and become through this record. I want to say many things but I'll just say that "Butterfly", the title track, induces me to tears even to this day. I only heard a few bars and I have a lump in my throat. For anyone who's had to fight for their identity and freedom, this song is freedom to them, to me at least.

I love Toni. She's like Sade, a hidden treasure not many people know about. It's an investing dynamic how some artists seem more well known than others. Her tone is unmistakable, you know it's her always. Sia is that way too. I'd love a Mariah and Toni duet but it's so rare for Mariah to work with other women, I guess I'm not counting on it. Lol.

It is nice if you like vinyl but yeah, if that doesn't interest you there aren't any other options. Some rarities from the Butterfly era would be amazing.

Re: Toni Braxton - Deadwood (78,354) (78,358) by Edward from USA
I love Whitney and Cox's "Same Script Different Cast" duet. If Mariah and Toni could bring something similar to the table, it would be great. I wish for Mariah to cover Whitney's "One Moment In Time" or "Saving All My Love for You", as long as she doesn't butch them like she did with "One More Try" or course.

Butterfly vinyl (78,357) by Jamie from UK
Bit disappointed with this release. I would have preferred some unreleased tracks from that era rather than vinyl. Yeah vinyl has made a comeback but how often do people actually use it over digital releases?

I love it. Her voice sounds great and the lyrics are inspirational when a partner could make you feel feel so low. She is going to pick herself back up. Toni looks amazing right now, and as a fellow person that has Lupus, she is a great inspiration. Good for her.

I love their new collaboration. How I wish Mariah was on it. The song is beautiful and haunting, with this amazing chorus. Give it a listen if you haven't already.

Re: Toni Braxton - Deadwood (78,353) (78,354) by Licia from USA
I agree it's no UnBreak My Heart or Breathe Again, but the song does make me excited about what Toni is going to bring with her new album. I absolutely adore her and she's only had one bad album in my opinion and that one was More than a Woman. A Mariah/Toni duet has been at the top of my list for years. I'd love for them to do a duet like Whitney and Deborah Cox did with the song Same Script Different Cast.

Toni Braxton - Deadwood (78,353) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
So yeah, Toni's back. And while her new single Deadwood is no Un-break My Heart or Breathe Again, it's still a great track that's too smart for radio. Will she and Mariah ever duet? That would be a masterclass in R&B.
