Wild Thoughts / chorus girl Mariah (76,917)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
I get the appeal of the song, it's okay though it's a blatant attempt at capitalizing on this renewed interest for Latin-tinged music and tropical beats, but that's only due to the brilliant sampling of Santana's Maria Maria. Without it, the whole thing falls apart. I have always felt iffy about Mariah's own songs where she was relegated to the role of chorus girl, but sometimes I feel like she should do what Rihanna does these days and jump into guest spots for songs from hot producers. It does sound desperate, but at least it would somehow widen her horizons a bit and work with people outside her usual circle. Calvin Harris just dropped the summer album of the year that's funk-oriented, and he has songs in there where Ariana and Katy sings like 2-3 lines repeatedly. I wouldn't mind if Mariah did that these days. I mean she already did Why You Mad, so I assume there is no way that things will get any worse than that. I mean this idea of unlikely collaborations and this hip-pop thing may not be something she invented, but is something that she brought to the mainstream in the form of Fantasy. So why not own that and take advantage of it, show everybody that nobody can beat her at her own game?

Do you think she will reach this huge amount of views and following without the latino market? Because for me it is a big part for her so called comeback in 2011. What I'm trying to say is it's quite unfair to compare the views of JLo to Mariah because JLo has this another market that caters with that. I admire JLo's hard work and professionalism though.

Guess we should all start streaming both of those songs so they keep Rhianna from getting another #1. I imagine Mariah will throw a vase at the wall or murder Stella if Rhianna ties her record. I don't think she'll break Mariah's record. She'll suffer the same fate Mariah, Katy, Britney and countless others have faced; she'll release an album that will fail to find an audience. If she's able to come back to prominence after that she'll either tie or break Mariah's record but I don't think she's got enough talent to make a comeback like Mariah did. Once EMD is no longer popular and it's been waning for some time she'll be replaced by a new younger It Girl.

It is a big deal. She's 47 and she is famous in our market but only because she is smart. She barely speaks Spanish and sings terribly in it. JLo reaches that amount of views because her brand got renewed and refreshed in 2011. She met a new generation of party people, the streamer party people that listens to dance-pop music. Also, dueting with Pitbull was the best decision she ever made.

I believe she said something similar in the Rolling Stone profile of her from late 1990 early 1991.

The song is gaining on Billboard, went from #4 to #3 this week. I hope "Despacito" and "I'm the one" keeps blocking the first 2 spots until WT drops. I'm not going to be able to take another Rihanna #1 while Mariah's career is down in shambles. No hate to Rihanna though but a girl can only handle so much at once.

Article: Mariah Carey credit card not declined while shopping (76,909)
by Matthew from USA
| |
|
|
Well, the original report said that Mariah's credit cards were declined and that she was upset with Stella as a result. Stella's google alerts for her name must have went off, because she was quick to jump in here and deny the truth of this rumor. The House stuff was only slandering Mariah herself, so no need for Stella to get involved. Now, back to working on getting her make-up business launched. Um, I mean, her and Mariah's make-up business.

It's actually amazing to have 19 million views with no label support. LA Reid publicly dismissed Mariah as a relic and said she would never be played on the radio and then turns around and signs JLo who is the same age and who only had less than 5 years of chart relevance before she started flipping, whose bigger hit was Mariah's concept. He not only signed her but released multiple flop singles with videos and tons of label support. Mariah went rouge, dropped a single and video out of nowhere with 0 label support and when LA saw she got some traction he quickly recommitted to her. I'm sill pissed she didn't promote the hell out of it with performances and paid for a radio deal out of her own pocket. A top ten would have been great and most reactions on her video were positive from non-fans. Everyone was surprised the song was actually good and that Mariah was still looking good nearning 50. She could have stuck it to LA with success but Stella didn't keep her booked. What late night show wouldn't book her, great performances is views. A screw up like NYE is ratings so they would have booked her.

For the first time in a while Mariah is reminding me of the old Mariah. Her most recent Instagram pics of her swimming and the 4th of July shot has got me feeling Mariah emotions. And go figure, it's the first weekend she has spent away from Stella since 2015.

Favorite/most memorable Mariah vocal runs/riffs (76,898)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
This is gonna be hard: 10. Cry. - To me, her most recent memorable riff happens during this song's climax (third to the last singing of the word "and"). 9. Whenever You Call - One of the loveliest endings to a Mariah song ever. The second to the last singing of the word "call" that segues into the final singing of the song title. 8. Fantasy - Not exactly the most challenging one, but this invitation to Fantasy is so effectively good that they kept it for the official remix: intro before the beat kicks in. 7. Circles - Some of Mariah's most impressive runs are those that start as simply sung notes yet ascend to a whistle within milliseconds: final chorus ("and I don't think I can't make it without you..."). 6. Butterfly - Beautifully placed, hearing this is the aural equivalent of seeing a butterfly soar to the sky in slo-mo: after the bridge ("until you learn the way it feels to fly..."). 5. My All - Every single time Mariah sings the word "tonight". Seriously. Only a genius would be able to come up with such variety in a single song. This could be another list entirely. 4. Vision Of Love - The that iconic one that announced her arrival: outro ("and it was all..."). 3. Never Too Far - She has a lot of gorgeous skyscraping runs but this one is one of her most underrated: the final "oh" towards the end. 2. Can't Take That Away - That monumental one towards the end ("that shines brightly..."). 1. Lead The Way - You know it's that great when even the background music momentarily stops just to showcase it. Perhaps her most difficult one to replicate because of its speed and complexity - she goes through around 20 notes in just 4 seconds: final chorus ("and let it take over..."). Conclusion: nobody - and I mean that in all caps - riffs as well and inventively as Mariah.

As much as I'm surprised how Stella took Mariah's plane for her own vacation, I'm delighted that for the first time in almost 3 years they're more than 20 meters away from her.

Fluke is Stella's favorite word (76,896)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
When I read that credit card article, I noticed how "fluke" was used. "When it happened at Louis Vuitton she thought it was a fluke." Mariah has been using the word fluke since she met Stella. I think she used it when asked about the New Year's fail and other times. I remember Stella using it before Mariah did. Stella find a new word when you write these fake tabloids.

I think the reason why JLo reaches that amount of views is because of how big latino market is and not really because of how great it is. She's a latin artist so reaching that huge amount of views is not that big of a deal because it's quite common among them.

Yes, 4th of July is totally a follow on from Underneath the Stars. I'm going to listen to them back to back now. I wonder if these events happened? And who's the guy? Love The Beautiful ones and how she destroys the 2 lads. I always imagine I'm singing it in a competition and then I destroy my competitors. The only other skip on Buttrrfly for me is Babydoll. Always thought it was needy.
