That's strange, as I was reading your message, and before I got to you mentioning Kate Bush, in my head I thought of Tori Amos, who is very often cited as the American Kate Bush.

Re: Forbes (76,301) (76,311)
by Lila from United States

There are no articles that state that a formal rep for J. Lo or Brittany confirmed anything about their income, so there have never been any formal announcements from their camps about income. If anything, some celebrities have stories planted related to their income or their PR takes the inititiative, which are still usually highly exaggerated, but no one actually comes right out and gives that information away. Most of these figures are simply made up estimations by the likes of Forbes based on unproven formulas. What celebrities make from touring is not reported by them or their promoters. What is reported is the gross sales of those tours. No one knows how much Mariah made on American Idol, exactly. Therefore, Nick nor anyone else "blabbed" anything. It was reported by People magazine that Mariah was being paid $18M and, when asked by Barabara Walters, Mariah said that the figure was in the ballpark. That's as close as we get to knowing how much she made. It is 100% false that money made overseas stays overseas. If you are an American citizen, all of your income, regardless of where it was made and minus what the government has said is exempt, is taxed unless you lied on your taxes about just how much you made. You must be thinking of expatriates, which Mariah is not, who are commonly, and also wrongly, thought to be completely exempt from paying taxes on foreign income. Even then, Mariah would make too much money to be exempt from taxation if we are to believe that she does command millions from one private performance alone. Not to mention, regardless of if the IRS is not going to tax the money, US citizens still have to file with the IRS and basically report that the money was made. As far as perfumes, most of the figures reported on celebrity perfume sales are like tour figures: gross sales, not how much the celebrity made. I'd say that's more than likely reported because the companies who make these perfumes are usually public companies.

Who would you pick (76,309)

Here's an interesting question. If you had to pick a musical artist (woman or man) that you felt was a polar opposite to Mariah and her music, who would think? I don't just mean the music, but also how they carry themselves in public. I think it's a very tough question. I would choose Kate Bush. I have some thoughts, but I will wait to see what you all think before I share them.

First Stella has Mariah do a reality show, then have her spotted at The Ivy, and now she has her not wearing underwear. Who does she think Mariah is? Paris Hilton? I know Paris was once considered the most famous woman in the world but Stella that was a decade ago. Mariah hire a manger with some competence and isn't stuck in 2006.

The crazy hilarious part is that if a second season truly is being carried out, there's a big possibility that the real episode synopses won't be much different from those.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey spills out of zero underwear dress (76,300) (76,303)

I really love Mariah but why this again? Yesterday I searched for pics (just for the nostalgia) from the beginning where she entered the spotlight to now. Because of the latest fashion "choices" sometimes you forget how beautiful, classy and sexy in a normal way she was for more than two decades. But beside the fashion I miss her natural aura. She had something so special the aura combined with the sweetest smile on earth. When she's with the kids, the smile is back. But if she's with the circus and doing interviews, leaving restaurant there's something what worries me. She doesn't seem happy like she used to be. And that's sad. Like many on this board said, I hope she can "end" this "era" and start something new without the circus. Everything would be better without the clan who seems to encourage this mess.

Ever one to go against the grain: The Dress. I like it. Now, I think she needs a new stylist and I prefer it when she dresses funky and wears pants, but she looks good here. Credit where credit is due.

Forbes (76,301)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
I once commented on this eons ago. Forbes can only calculate what is known and reported. Unlike a lot of celebs, MC is quite quiet about how much she makes. J.Lo and Spears made formal announcements about how much they make at Vegas, but MC never dished her digits. The only reason we know how much she made at AI is because Nick blabbed it. Most of Mariah's touring numbers are unknown because she tends to tour overseas and doesn't announce her income. Back in the day, it was common place for performers like Madonna to just have one large entity take over their whole tour promo and her numbers would be announced as she went. Mariah was very unique. She didn't have the same people. Mariah would use different promoters that were native to the land she was touring in. Sometimes, she'd use the same one for both North America and Europe. Other times it was different. Most of Mariah's touring gross reported is only for the times she was in North America like her Charmbracelet Tour. I used to think she did it as a way to save on taxes. In the US, what is made overseas stays overseas unless it's somehow connected to a US business. MC's perfumes from Elizabeth Arden were always reported, but most of her MAC line was sold online.

Article: Mariah Carey spills out of zero underwear dress (76,300)
by Gemma from Australia

I've been a fan of Mariah's for years and I use to be proud of that but now I'm getting more and more ashamed of this fact, it's so sad. I totally agree with that person, what is Mariah's stylist thinking? Does she even have a stylist anymore? Please stop dressing like a prostitute Mariah, we get you think you're sexy but there's sexy and then there's just plain trashy.

Agree. I really do hope that this is just a mid life crisis because I can't imagine her telling everyone at the age of 60 that she's still young because she discounts number and she's eternally 12, like that will be ew and so innapropriate anymore.

I actually thought it was a good interview. She came off sweet and she mostly kept it simple until the very end when she gushed about her kids. Monroe is already doing backgrounds for Mariah. I didn't see the "rambling" people were going on about. I'm glad she is getting back out there and who knows, she may be ready with something soon as she's been tweeting a lot of studio sessions in May.

I actually think Mariah looks stunning without panties. She definitely has gotten to a point in a her life where she doesn't get her panties in a bunch. She seems to be invoking Cruella De Vil with that dress though, but that's Vegas baby. Getting into Edoard's frame of mind, I would say she's making a statement here since we've never seen a butterfly wearing panties. She's excused.

I would so watch this mess. I always said if they were going to do a reality show any fan on this board could come up with more entertaining story lines in our sleep. We would have the ratings up with our concocted shenanigans in no time. Ok, soooo here is my challenge for the board for laughs. If you were hired to "write" 8 episodes for Mariah's World season 2, post the synopsis of each episode here. If this becomes popular, the winning entry will be measured by upvotes?

The changing of expectations (76,293)
by Randy from USA

I've gotten softer on MC as time has gone on. I used to attack her for her live vocals but I had to sit down and realize what it was. Mariah is severely insecure which makes her a perfectionist so that she doesn't receive criticism. She's a studio musician so she can re-record vocals until they're perfect. So live standing there on American television she's worried about her reception before she sings a single note and therefore is nervous, can't hit notes and then she can't re-record it as she does in the studio. Then I thought about my attacks on her dress. Back in 97, I remember a die hard told me that they cried when they saw The Roof and My All/Stay Awhile videos because she looked so trashy. I look at those videos today and think she looks perfect and yet she's pushing the envelope into more risqué territory now. I'm not sure why since she's older and not as fit but I get it. She's iconic and I think the problem is we know and have seen she's capable of so much more than we're getting. I've recently retapped into my love for MC. I've justified and excused her a bit. Don't drag me Edward and Andrew lol. I think MC is going through a phase trying to hold onto her youth and there's going to be a point where she can't anymore and then I think she'll get her style and her music together and we will be proud to be fans. Maybe at 52 she can't be eternally 12 anymore.
