Re: I was born at night, not last night (75,958) (75,973) by Stacey from USA
I thought about MIAM a lot when writing my last post. You're absolutely right, B. I won't ever count her out musically. I just believe music isn't her priority right now.

I will definitely check it out once I get home. As for when Mariah said she talked about dying early with Michael, I think I vaguely remember it, if I'm not confusing it with something else. It's sad really, Mariah still has time to stop and take control of her life. Instead she chose to give control to some Oompa Loompa mess. This reminds me of that interview she did few years back where she talked about how she hated making decision and calling shots and telling people (her employees) what to do.

I agree. There's only one way to recover. Leave Hollywood and live a low-key life. Go back home (NY). Stop drinking and take care of your voice and work on an album. I would say 2 years is a great time to recover an image and make an album. She did an amazing job pre TEOM. She was very low-key and worked on an album and her private life was stable. No nothing in the media about her private life. She came back with a humble attitude and a great album. Amazing team. TEOM's success is never going to happen but I can see another semi-comeback with a great attitude and music.

Belinda Carlisle for me. Maybe we can consider her as a diva too but her music is different than our queen M. I listen a lot to Roxette's music lately. MC early works, BC and Roxette are the sound that I miss so much from the 90s. Of course, the rest of the original divas.

Artists you love that may surprise others (75,967) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Okay, this board has been under quite a dark cloud since Martyn's passing. May he rest in peace. So to lighten things up a bit, it's sharing time once again. It's a given that we all love Mariah, and it probably follows that we also love her diva contemporaries. But we also follow artists that aren't necessarily like them that may seem random or come as a surprise to others. Mine are:
Jason Mraz
Neon Trees
Hiroshima
Tove Lo
DNCE
Joao Gilberto
Lily Allen
John Mayer
The Cardigans
Hall & Oates
D'Sound
Ellie Goulding
Cher Lloyd
Michael Franks
The bird and the bee
Mandy Moore
Amerie
Michael Learns To Rock
Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Kimbra
Carly Rae Jepsen
Swing Out Sister
Color Me Badd
Seth MacFarlane
The Carpenters
What are yours?

Hi Mimi L. Michael was killed by AEG for the insurance money. He only agreed to 10 shows but they booked him for 50 behind his back. The president of AEG, Michael's old manager who was fired in March of 09 because he didn't trust him and kept him from the outside world, who magically appeared on he day of his death to "speak on Michael's behalf". He was added to the insurance policy the day before his death. Dr Murray, whose job was to keep feeding Michael's addictions and reduce his health, the old Sony manager who magically "resurfaced" right before his death. That's why Latoya said in an interview that Dr Murray was just the fall guy that there were other involved. Do you remember the interview where Mariah said her and Michael had a conversation about dying before their time because many famous stars do, it's sad. You should watch the video I posted. It shows all the emails from AEG that got leaked, contracts and insurance polices, false testimonies that don't line up with the actual time line (they all admit they knew he wasn't breathing as they all called each other around 10:30am, but an ambulance wasn't called until 12:22pm once he was good and dead unfortunately). That's why Michael's mom sued AEG.

Mariah needs to work with real artists again (75,965) by T from USA
She needs to go away. Rent a cottage for a summer like Beyonce did and live with real artists and write songs for two months. Jazmine Sullivan, Solange Knowles, Frank Ocean. She needs to reconnect with her artistry. Can you imagine the songs she would produce if she hung out with real artists? The business will take care of itself if she just comes back with real songs. She should leave the reality tv producers and business people behind while creating an album. Their opinions won't help the process. Unfortunately this won't happen but one could wish.

Hopefully, sooner than later. Stella reminds me of a female Howard K Stern. Howard was Anna Nicole's lawyer/lover/manager who exploited her for fame and money.

The only thing that hurts even more than knowing that such a brilliant and kind artist has passed away way before his time is that he was taken by a group of hungry leeches, who used, abused and then killed him for their own benefit. Michael was used by everyone around him basically, family, "friends" and business associates.

I honestly don't understand how Mariah doesn't see what a bag full of incompetence this Stella is. I mean let's even put aside the fact that Stella has zero knowledge about the music industry and management. Let's look at Stella's main field - reality TV. She got Mariah on it, and failed even there. The show was a complete and utter mess, which did Mariah no favors. Stella is using her opportunity to get herself involved in as many partnerships as possible with Mariah to make sure she can milk it even if she gets fired. Wonder when Mariah will realize that Stella only brought Mariah down only to upgrade the Bulochnikovs status.

Re: Mariah Carey/Bruno Mars - Someday/Treasure (75,956) (75,959) by B from USA
It is reminiscent of Heartbreaker. Mariah needs to find another late 80's or early to mid 90's song to sample for her next album's lead single. She doesn't need to sell out to score a hit she needs to use her winning formula from the 90's: working the best producers in the business and writing melodic songs with simple poetic lyrics that are universal (Butterfly). I want an album with songs like I Am Free, Melt Away, Butterfly, The Roof, Breakdown, Side Effects, #Beautiful, and Meteorite. She also needs to rehire [her] personal trainer Patricia from St. Barts (who whipped her into shape in 2008). It's clear she's taking care of her voice but she needs to stop drinking and go back to not speaking for a day or two before recoding and performing.

Re: I was born at night, not last night (75,957) (75,958) by B from USA
MIAM was a great album that fell on deaf ears. She's still got it, she just needs new collaborators and team. Stella has proven time and time again she only cares about fame. Why didn't she yank Mariah off stage during the NYE performance? Because she knew by allowing it she'd get her 15 minutes of fame and she milked it for all she's worth. She even hired an actress to play her incompetent assistant just for more screen time. I wonder if Mariah even knows that Molly wasn't really Stella's assistant. I think Stella is keeping Mariah booked so that she doesn't notice what's obviously going on. If it's obvious to even non fans you know it's bad.

It's fine to discuss MC's issues at the moment. It's clear she's lost her way. At the end of the day, it's her life and she will do with it what she wants. But, when the "tears of a clown fall down" and she ends up like so many others, I won't feel sorry for her. She is a talent. Nobody is denying her ability to create amazing music. But, somewhere that "saving grace" that is her music left. She finds peace now for some strange reason in taking care of others, albeit to her own detriment. I "wish her well".

You all are making me more impatient to watch this. Ugh I've been wanting to watch this ever since they announced Navi will do it. Mariah's case of relying on leeches is so similar to Michael's, it's scary. I hope she manages her finances on her own. The way she is footing the bill for taking Stella's entire family around the world (like I get she needs an entourage of hair dressers, bodyguards etc but what on earth do people like Stella's dad, Stella best friend and that friend's family and all have to do on these trips?) then Stella dishing out hundreds and thousands of dollars to "buy" cars for a 14 year old (who can't drive) and Mariah (who won't drive), and all these ridiculous endorsement deals she has Mariah on really worries me. The random as hell endorsement deals worry me the most because she has no reason to do these unless she wants/needs the money.

Re: Janet Netflix series (75,948) (75,953) by Licia from USA
I don't know if I want to watch a whole show about Janet's divorce, but I am interested in her touring, music process, and of course her being a new mommy. I just recently watched the finale of Braxton Family Values and although it could be a mess fess, I love how they touched on many relatable and hard to talk about subjects such as Toni's vocal issues, her lupus, their dad's infidelity, Tamar's husband and his supposed infidelity, each sister's divorce or marriage issues, their everyday problems, and their children. Although many of the scenarios may have been manufactured and Tamar's meltdowns and shenanigans really annoy me at times, they still managed to created a good show with spots of messiness for ratings. It seemed more real than not. I wished Mariah's World would have focused on the music and talked about real issues like her vocals and her divorce. Not the made up for TV moments I've read about. I wanted her to be relatable to the general public, but all they did was turn her image into this two timing, man crazed diva.

Re: I was born at night, not last night (75,925) (75,952) by 123 from USA
Mimi L and Ribbon B. Since Michael is being brought up I did some research and Michael's death was a pre-meditated murder for the insurance money and Sony catalog. AEG emails were released where they were abusing him and mistreating him. AEG President who admitted via email he slapped Michael, Michael's manager Dr Tohme Tohme, who was fired in March 09 because Michael didn't trust him, Dr Murray (the fall guy), and an old manager who worked for Michael during his early days with Sony who magically appeared right before his death. This video shows all the emails, video footage, and documents of this group of leeches actually planned his death. I wonder if Mariah knows this.

Re: I was born at night, not last night (75,925) (75,951) by 123 from USA
The Lifetime movie filmed from his security team's point of view was actually really good. I was expecting a horrible movie like the Whitney one but this one had all kinds of juicy details. Michael wasn't exactly broke, his finances were being controlled by the leeches. Remember that his card was not "declined", it was "not authorized". I kept forgetting the actor wasn't really Michael. He was that good. From Randy running into his gate and his father Joseph having to come check him. When Geraldo asked Michael in an interview which brother was top dog, Michael answered "Randy" and now I know why. The scene of him shooting the Jet cover showed a bunch of leeches around him, it made me think of Whitney's last days and Mariah's today. The movie made me want to watch more.

I did too but they actually interview people that were filmed during the time. Like the men that rescued the truck driver that was attacked and then hit with a brick. It's worth the watch even if you were around during that time.

I feel like like she's uninspired, make no mistake Mariah is still a hit machine. But it's not all about only the music anymore. Becoming a mother changed her, it's a greater love. Whitney said it to her on Oprah way back. Even Chaka Khan too went something along the lines of "it's gonna change her" I believe. Apparently they were right. She's just not as driven anymore, nor as eager as in her youth, and justifiably so look how much she's achieved, she's done it all (all caps). Mariah is music royalty, do you guys even realize that?
