Agreed regarding hip-hop songs. I always liked that Mariah more than ballads crybaby Mariah. I wish she would stick with this style on the new album.

Ecstatic. Fresh, original, yet quintessential Matiah, who is her own genre.
I've always preferred her hiphop/rnb joints to her ballads, and she's leant into the genre on steroids. Amazing music that features her silky voice but with no need to wrap them around overly difficult melismas etc. I've been saying forever that she should ditch balladeering and utilise her vocals on stuff like this, and jazz, club tracks. Her lyricism is too good to be held back by the need to be belting all the time, especially when that style of singing gets increasingly hard the longer you do it.
Her main strengths, even in the era of stuff like My All and her incredible ballads, was never her voice, which sounds absolutely crazy because she was unsurpassed vocally, with only one real peer in Whitney. It not being her main strength is not to denigrate her voice at all. It's just that her lyric writing, and her production skills are even better. Her song construction, her melody-writing, her wit... these things are what make Mariah Mariah. In some ways her vocals being so good have been responsible for her continued underrating. People focus on the vocals and high notes and miss the intricacy of her construction.
You don't lose those skills, they improve. Hence the need for new music, despite her vocals having reached their peak a while back. She can still sing but perhaps doesn't feel like she needs to fall back on the voice as much any more so she can hit us with bops for the club, which are always the best songs on any of her albums.
The chorus on this track is a slice of sonic bliss. Her rapping is perfect. The references are there.
Based on this track, I'm anticipating yet another major renaissance for her, akin to Emancipation. She should with the strength of this, if kept up, be able to clock another couple of chart toppers. 20 has the perfect ring to it. And wouldn't she deserve it? Imagine what a beautiful narrative for someone's career that would make? The industry chooses who to focus on and blow up, just like it chooses who to ignore, or finish off when its decided their time's up. Well Mariah is proving her time aint up. The music industry should support this rebirth. Let Mariah bask in icon status like she literally deserves. Because these young guns thinking she only sings about Christmas need to know why she was one of the top musicians stretching over three (at least) generations. She is timeless. I pray the radio supports based purely on its quality. I don't fully understand how best to market music these days, but radio stations should be bussin this out every day.
Yes there will be a cohort of old fans complaining it aint Hero Two.
I could not be more dare I say it proud, and excited, and happy with this track. It had better be the launch for the fully deserved renaissance. She did it before, she can do it again, so long as the industry plays fair.

Ok I ain't mad. I quite like it. Still processing but initial reaction was very very positive - unlike all the other singles she's released over the years. The lyric video helped me get more into it. I think it's her best lead single in a long ass while.
Mariah - get behind it and give it your all. I hope a proper video is coming soon. I feel like they haven't shot it yet. This is going to be the [It's like that] of [MC16]. The punchy re introduction to get the attention and then she'll knock us down with the WBT of this era.
It's not gold but hor the first time in a long time, not disappointed MC.

The references in the song should all be nostalgic throwbacks in the music video. Motor cycle man. Hmm. That music video has been making rounds on social media lately. The computer guy. Who that be? Lol. Construction guy, not sure on that one though. Maybe I'm off but that's what they should do. Catchy song.

So I have to be honest, I don't love it. I like the sample and it's a very different sound for her, but I finished it thinking oh, ok? I listened to it a few more times to see if it would grow and it doesn't really. Maybe it's the lack of punch in the chorus or nonexistent melody. I'm still excited for the new album and glad she's putting out new music, but this song just wasn't it for me.

I hope the official lyric video is also a preview of the official music video. She looks beautiful and classy-sexy, which is fitting for the song. What do you think? The song is a total bop. Although it reminds me of "Stay Long Love You", it sounds even better as the lead single for the album. It showcases Mariah's incredible talent as a songwriter. The song is short but sweet, and knowing her, she is probably already working on a remix version.

Masterpiece. Absolutely new, no screams, no whispers, straight to the point. I love the beat and especially the lyrics: first a self-absorbed description of her fast-paced life. Then MC remembers that she wanted to sing about boys. And then the ironic "I like them dangerous." Sing Sing, Evil King, Sex and the City. Again masterpiece.

Amazing production and a hot beat, but definitely far from "It's Like That". It's mid, but a solid fire-starter. Seems like it's meant to be a lighthearted moment. Has anyone put the pieces together yet? Who are the guys she's talking about?

Lambs have been crazy all day on X. I haven't seen Lambs this hyped since ILT and TEOM dropped 20 years ago. I have written down several things different about the start of this era. This is not GTFO or I Don't. Something feels different about Type Dangerous to start the new era.
1. MC took her time releasing new music despite pressure from Lambs for 4 years. 2. Anderson .Paak inspired MC in the studio. 3. For the first time ever, MC used a previous album to launch a new album. She was so clever with her date hint that we missed that a new era would be starting on that date. Genius MC. 4. MC took control of launching her new era instead of her new label. We found out three days later that gamma. is her new label from Lambs posting presaving Type Dangerous screenshots. I suspect a gamma. official annoucement will come tomorrow. 5. MC stepped out of her comfort zone for this era by working with new producers, songwriters, artists, and mending an old relationship with Walter A. This era doesn't feel like JD will be involved, but I wouldn't be mad if he had a couple of songs on MC16. However, I don't think we will hear "Y'all know what this is" on MC16. 6. This will be MC's first summer album release since her debut album. Just another reminder of a full circle era is starting tomorrow.

I love this song. Love the lyrics, easy to sing along to, and the best is infectious. This song is giving me justice for Migrate and Prisoner vibes. Also I love the sing sing line Mariah said. I'm so ready for MC16 to drop now. Also, don't hate me for saying this, but this is the first time in a few years that I truly love the sound of Mariah's voice. She sounds great.

I'd add it's no coincidence she is releasing this new album right after TEOM. 20 years ago, everyone counted MC out after Charmbracelet's release. To which she said to Barbara Walters, "Well they will just have to count me back in." I think history is about to repeat itself.

I'm so excited for midnight. I can't believe we are finally getting a new studio album. We've been saying MC16 for a long time now and I don't think any of us expected this roll out. Everyone was all wrapped up in Mimi's 20th anniversary and then thinking about the Barbara [sic] song with Walter that is so exciting, let alone this. Mariah looks fierce in these promo shots. Especially the red lip and darker hair shot. I wonder when they were taken. Someone said this was recorded last June which would be before her tremendous loss. I am excited to hear Anderson's influence on this track and the album. He has some interesting and funky songs and I'm excited to hear where Mariah goes with this sound. I love the drum part of the song right before the clip cuts out. It sounds like a sample of something but I can't place which one. Looking forward to reading everyone's thoughts tomorrow. On another note, Lambi I tend to agree with you and worry about Mariah and what they do to people of her status especially when it involves money. I noticed a lot of M's past with a clownish blond rapper has surfaced a bit online again and Damizza is back at it again talking about things around that very hard time for all of us especially Mariah. Who knows the real truth with all that. I just pray for her daily and to keep her safe and healthy and for her children as well. This industry is not all that people think it is with the glitz and glamour I'm sure. It's got to suck a lot out of you. Don't mean to make this a downer message. Cannot wait for new music and hear where she is at creativity at the moment.

The idea of Mariah working with new writers excites me, one thing I hope and pray she doesn't do again is waste her time collaborating with unknown rappers/singers. We don't know when we'll get another Mariah album after this and if ever so make the album count, use her star power and pull in those A list collaborations. I get Mariah likes to give new artists chances and that's fine, maybe save it for her being featured on their tracks instead of her featuring them on her tracks.

Mariah alerts (109,061)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Mariah's promo team has been on fire right now with building the anticipation. They just posted a cryptic tweet with a bunch of emojis sayings giving you something to work on for the next 6 hours (until the single drops). The sequence of emoji is red heels, a pencil/paper, 3 women, bubble, soap, diamond, a diamond ring, a question mark and 2 exclamation marks. What does it mean?
The emojis possibly refer to this line. These lyrics along with some others have leaked. Also the song is apparently Migrate meets Caution vibes.
Taking off my coat Clearing my throat Certified diamonds like the songs I wrote Hit the little girls room to powder my nose
You know the guy say he work construction Turns out he was moving them pounds and customs
"I don't have time for the rigmarole"
I want someone to step to me (oh yes) I want someone to rescue me (oh yes) I've never been afraid of love (oh yes) That's why I like em dangerous (I like em dangerous)
