What did Mariah mean? (108,748)
by Philipp from Switzerland
| |
|
|
in September 2024, Mariah was interviewed by Vanity Fair. Mariah said the following. What exactly do you think she meant by that? Her siblings maybe, and her mother?
Vanity Fair: The book felt very honest. Looking back at it, are there things you left out that you wish you hadn't? Mariah: Some things are just too much. But there are some things in the book that I wish weren't in the book. Not that they were wrong or that they were inaccurate. But you learn later: Oh, I shouldn't have done that.
Vanity Fair: Because it hurt people in your life? Mariah: Because it potentially hurt people in my life. I don't know, because I don't talk to certain people in my life.

Biopic (108,747)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
It all makes perfect sense the way you explained it. She barely moves and keeps a straight face because clearly, she got Botox even in her knees too, on top of the fact that she's on the early stages of her defrosting phase, so moving would be very painful and cracky. And of course, since Glitter was such a traumatic event, she’s been taking a nice, honey IV like running seven year stroll toward this biopic. I'm about to cry. It's like I just had a big fat epiphany. How did I not see this sooner when it was right there in my face? Maybe the overhead lighting in my head, but now: I can see, I can see.
Now I finally understand, she’s been writing one song per year since 2018, so by 2030, we’ll have a full 12-track album just in time for her retirement party.

Biopic (108,746)
by Lambi from USA

Mariah's probably been heavily involved in her biopic. She's posted pictures with Lee Daniels. It's coming out some time soon. With her barely trying to be convincing when she lip syncs - it's quite obvious. She just doesn't want wrinkles to develop faster. At 56, aging has caught up with her. She's doing everything in her power to slow it down. Mariah is all about how she looks. I mean she quite literally didn't care if she was being given a tribute by Moni and Tori, it was bad lighting when Mariah was in the frame. And she will not hesitate to show her dismay. All lambs should accept that this is just who Mariah is. This is just how a beauty queen ages. She's touring and showing up and takes the time to pre-record. Nobody can say she didn't maximize her time. Musicians usually retire from performing by their 60's. We are four years away from that. So just enjoy what ever she can scramble to offer at this point. She literally devoted her whole entire life to music.

Slow moving (108,745)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

Yes I agree. I've been thinking about it ever since. She refused to move and always looking confused because she's so busy looking at the monitor to decipher the color coding of the words which one is live and which one is pre-recorded. Plus, she's always wearing heels that are too high and too small for her shoe size. That's all. Off stage she is normal as usual. We can see that from all her instagram story. So nothing to worry.

I believe that the reason why she's not moving as much as she was 2 years ago is because she's being cautious to avoid making mistakes in her lip sync. This is a new era where the concerts are 90% lipped, so as much as she wants to be carefree, she can't because she might miss her cues.

There is no album, it's all facade (108,744)
by Norman from USA

I disagree that she's creatively and artisticly bankrupt. I do think she's bored out of her mind and that she's allowed herself to believe her own pr.
Someone like Mariah doesn't run out creativity; they mostly run out of steam and hunger for what they initially wanted from their career. You don't write, produce, and arrange all of those #1 albums and singles and suddenly run out of artistry. You tire of it. Her heart hasn't been in it for a while now.
I also think artists that reach the pinnacle of success she has (much like MJ, Madonna, Elvis, etc.) will at a certain point rehash their glory days thinking it'll stay current forever.
I think she could find the spark again if actually wanted to. Idk what would get her interest again, but of all the artists of her caliber, she's always been the most versatile and capable of making it happen.

When she tours, lambs ask why she's touring when there's no new material, and gets accused of being lazy. So she teases and creates rumor that there's an upcoming album when there isn't any to shut them down.
That's been her MO since she became a Christmas lady. Y'all should get used to the fact that no album is coming. The whole .Paak thing is more facade from Mariah. She just wants to piggyback on her legacy and name to tour because there's no more money from albums and recording anymore.
She's creatively and artistically bankrupt. Sorry to be the one to post obvious.

New Mariah album (108,742)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah could bundle her albums with concert ticket sales, it is a common practice. She could also release music digitally only, but she's alienated her fans over the years by not staying consistently engaged. As a result, many have left the fandom. No one expects her to sell millions of albums anymore, even today's top artists rarely do. Nowadays, an album can hit number one with relatively low sales compared to past eras. Releasing an album every two to three years could have kept her core fanbase more connected and loyal.

I don't think she's lying about working on music, but I also don't think she's as invested in making an album. What I mean is as a songwriter she must constantly be getting tunes and lyrics in her head and she probably writes it down or does a quick demo but never actually goes full into production. I'm deducing this from her saying she has 10 songs she just needs to add vocals etc. I also think after the flop of her last few projects she's scared of releasing new stuff because no matter what people think numbers are a big deal to her, it's her flex, so she's scared of losing. But what she should know is her last few albums didn't flop because of lack of quality, it was because of wrong single choices and bad videos that no one would rewatch.

"I know her kids are really young but they're probably the only ones who truly care about her."
It's sad, but I completely agree with you. I wouldn't mind if she never sang or toured again, as long as she's healthy and present for her children, that's what truly matters. They clearly share a deep bond, and at this stage in their lives, they still need her more than anything. I really admire her job as a mother, not trying to mold them into copies of herself. She's let them be their own people, and that says a lot about the kind of mother she is.

I was wondering the other day why is Mariah still touring when she clearly doesn't want to. Is it a financial reason? Is it a contractual obligation? If it's financial I wonder why then she keeps adding to her expenses by renting out really expensive houses when she has her amazing penthouse and I'm sure other properties she owns. Also it must not be cheap always having her glam team around with all these tours. I really hope she's doing good and if not I hope someone is honest with her about it. I know her kids are really young but they're probably the only ones who truly care about her. Mariah didn't need gimmicks or choreography to be a strong stage presence. All she needed was a mic stand and her voice with a spotlight on her and she'd be mesmerizing but she just seems to disengaged and not feeling it nowadays. It's sad. After all the hard work she's done in her career I would hope she's at a comfortable position now where she doesn't have to work if she doesn't want to.

Born this Mimi (108,727)
by Edward from USA

Did you really think that when the label decided to list her birth year as 1970 that Patricia, her own mother, wouldn't be one of the first people briefed on it? I don't think Mariah randomly came up with that on her own, but she had to go with the program. At the time, it was common practice to round down or adjust the ages of female artists for marketability. It happened with Mariah, with Madonna, with J.Lo, and many others. But at this point, most people don't care anymore.
There's one irrefutable piece of evidence that no interview, driver's license, or altered birth certificate can contradict: Mariah's birth announcement in her hometown newspaper, The Long Islander. It was published on April 10, 1969, exactly one week after her birth, and it reads:
"March 27 - Mariah, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Carey, Huntington."
This notice is documented in the Suffolk Cooperative Library System, on page 15 of the paper. If Mariah had been born in 1970, that announcement wouldn't have appeared in print in April 1969. It's a clear, verifiable fact.
Back then, you could say whatever and people would just go with it. But once the internet came around, stuff like that became a lot harder to hide. And now? Mariah doesn't even seem to care. Articles say she's 56 this year and 55 the year before, and she's not out here correcting anyone.

Whoever is pushing her to keep tarnishing her impressive legacy like this needs to be fired. There's clearly something off with her, and I just hope she doesn't end up like Michael and Whitney. Beyonce can lip, but at least she dances her ass off and sings her ballads live. Celine was full of energy with a huge production behind her, but Mariah didn't need all that, her voice alone carried the show. Now she just stands there and lips unconvincingly. You would think by now she would at least put on more energetic performances, invest in better production, have more moving parts on stage, or get a new choreographer. It's time to hit the gym without high heels and hit that stage like the star she is. Sadly, her performances are copy-paste jobs. You can see it in the comments on those clips, even the yass queens are starting to notice.

Born this Mimi (108,727)

I must absolutely agree with you. Last year I posted here a YouTube video where the TV presenter stated as a fact her birth date (March 27th 1970) in a TV show back in 1994 and she just confirmed it by saying yes. For me it was just obvious she was telling the truth, but you said that she just went along with it as a commercial strategy or something of the kind.

Here is another video with David Letterman. She says she's 24 and that was on May 19th 1994. She would've been 25, right? Apparently, she lied again.
