Re: Infamous (66,855) (66,863) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
True. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting for a different result. No one was exactly surprised when Infamous sounded like the same ground that has been trampled on over and over since her comeback.

Re: These songs represent the real Mariah not Infamous (66,858) (66,862) by Terna from Nigeria
Sorry no one wants a new Walter Afanansieff collaboration the magic lies within Mariah not Walter. Seeing as she has written equally profound songs on par if not I dare say better than the ones she did with Walter just playing piano. Walter's work was always overproduced and borderline schmaltzy and her voice buried under layers of music tracks instead of front and center. The real Mariah Carey is an R&B/Soul singer in the vein of Aretha, Patti, Chaka & miss Blige.
Mine Again
We Belong Together
Your girl
Vision of Love
Do You think of me
Underneath the stars
Melt Away
One Sweet Day (Leans more towards r&b)
Through the Rain
Bliss
Fly like a bird
Faded
Baby doll
The Roof
The Art of Letting Go etc. Now this is the real Mariah Carey. A soul sister and R&B queen.

Re: Infamous is ok (66,856) (66,861) by Marissa from USA
I happen to be one of the people who didn't think the song was that bad, but are people allowed to have an opinion though? Just because you're a fan doesn't mean you have a moral obligation to be ecstatic about everything she puts out. That's not even realistic. What if the song just isn't someone's taste? As long as someone isn't cursing her out or being extremely disrespectful, I don't think that makes them a bad fan.

I'll second that. The song is quite forgettable. I too was trying to remember it but couldn't. It's weird because that hardly ever happens to me with Mariah songs. I listened to it twice, might give it a few more spins and watch how they play it out on screen but I don't think I'll be adding it to my playlist.

New sound (66,859) by B from USA
Since 2005 Mariah has worked primarily with JD in an attempt to recreate their winning formula. However, their formula is no longer winning. Despite a few standouts (Dedicated and For The Record) their work together has been lackluster and uninspired. If Stella cares about Mariah's legacy she should suggest Mariah to work with new producers. I want Mariah to make another comeback. It's basically a must at this point after so many underwhelming and underperforming singles.

No more JD and BMC songs. Their sound is so outdated now. Tweet: Please Mariah, your lambily would love another Walter A. collaboration. We want we need you on top again.

Re: New song honest review (66,841) (66,857) by Terna from Nigeria
I like the T-Pain moment. That's where the song seems to take off and brighten up just a little bit and I feel in the context of the film, it's where he soars and kinda gets his mojo back since from what I've read Kitty's there to help and guide Jamal.

Infamous is ok (66,856) by Sheila from United States
Of course we all knew how mean and shady you all would be to her new song. Again, the Navy and Beehive would never. Only the lambs stab her in the back at every turn. Miserable.

Re: Infamous (66,833) (66,855) by B from USA
Despite liking Infamous it reinforces my belief that Mariah needs to work with new producers. She's hit a wall creatively and if she hopes to make another comeback she needs new blood. Working with Miguel and Happy Perez is why #Beautiful worked. It seamlessly updated Mariah's signature sound without sounding desperate or dated.

Infamous (66,854) by B from USA
After playing the song three times in a row my brother, who for the record isn't a fan, was singing along. I like it. The lyrics are obviously about Lucious and Cookie's infamous relationship. It fits within the storyline perfectly. The vintage R&B Hip-hop sound is also a direct result of the storyline. He's toxic and yet their love is epic and their constantly drawn back to each other.

Infamous (66,853) by Luke from United Kingdom
I definitely like Mariah's parts. Not so sure on Jussie's though. It feels like Mariah done the best with what she was given. It's not her show after all, so I guess the producers have the final say with how it sounds in the long run.

Infamous (66,852) by Billy from England, UK
Ok for me the song is kinda boring, it reminds me of Faded, But the song goes with those types of TV shows which you hear in the background, Also least if she gets to sing this song, she won't struggle with high notes etc it will be so easy for her to perform and I'm sure she will add more to it when sung live.

Re: Infamous (66,848) (66,851) by Bill from the UK
I can't even remember a note of Infamous, that's how little it struck me. I don't think I even want to listen to it again lol. I hate saying this but please let's not have these "it was for Empire" excuses. Are you saying if it becomes her 19th #1 that it will be discounted because "Kitty" is singing it as opposed to Mariah? As if. MC had a real chance to bring something unique and special to a large audience and we got a Memoirs leftover.

Infamous review (66,850) by Mirage from Unicornatopia
Bland. Sounds like it was produced and recorded on an iPhone. Mariah has probably produced farts with more energy and audience connectivity.

Infamous (66,848) by Stacey from USA
I like it. It was a nice surprise. After Infinity, anything done would have been a step in the right direction, lol. My only complaint is the extended use of Jussie's auto tune. It was too much. Honestly, had he just sang his part, the song would have been perfect. I like MC's vocals on this song. Her mid-range sounds so rich. I like how both singers go back and forth instead of one singer sings one verse and vice versa. It definitely suits the mood Empire brings to the screen. 7/10

Rant (66,846) by George Golden from UK
Same old crap. Where is the singing sensation that was Mariah Carey? Everything has to got to be a duet where she hides herself. This stupid rnb sound that is so dated and reductive is what she thinks is great music? She should just retire gracefully instead of ruining her legendary career with mediocrity. I don't care if it was just for Empire, it should have been a killer track. She shouldn't have been on Empire to begin with. Why can't she do classy things? She is not a good actress but she has to force it. The music was what made her. Where is the music? She is the most annoying female singer ever. This is coming from a fan since 1992.

Calm down (66,844) by Malcolm from Asia
After all this is for Empire and not the lead single for her next album. Like what others said, it's just perfect for the show. It's not outstanding but it serves the purpose, it's just right there in the middle. Save that negativity on her upcoming official singles. I can't with the hate, don't know if this is still for Mariah's fans or for the haters. Nothing is good enough for some people here.

So Mariah made a shit song because she expected to make a shit song? You just lost all credibility.

"She still needs to go to an empty stadium, start from the very top, and work her way all the down having several seats." I laughed so hard at this and almost spit out my coffee. Dead. I do agree that the answer she provided didn't really match what the interviewer asked.

Re: New song honest review (66,825) (66,841) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
You have to understand this song is for a cheesy TV show and set for a cheesy story line of helping Jamaal get his confidence back and reuniting Cookie and Lucious back together. So if you think in context of that, it fits. If you take it out of the context and think this is where her new music is headed then it's a different story for this song, I didn't have high expectations, you should listen to the other songs on Empire, take their signature song "You're so Beautiful" or their other song "Keep your money", you'll see how cheesy it gets. Basically the song was probably crafted intentionally to be cheesy because it's for a cheesy scenario in a cheesy TV show. That being said, I like the melody, the piano, I like that she used her natural voice so she can replicate it on stage but I don't think it's a strong song overall. When they described it as an uplifting song, I was thinking the chorus would have be stronger and give me goosebumps haha. I also absolutely hate the sudden T-Pain moment. I don't know why that was necessary and why Mariah thought it was a good idea. They could have instead just gotten Bryshere/Hakeem to rap, but all in all that part should have just been scrapped off. The sound of the song is also nothing fresh or exciting, but I can over look that because this I'm taking this song in context with the show and I can understand how this will work as a soundtrack for a show/movie.

Infamous opinion (66,839) by Marissa from USA
The song served its purpose. It aligned with the dramatic theme of Empire. Do I like it? Not really. I appreciate the fact that Mariah didn't use autotune for her voice, but at the same time her mid-range is definitely not her greatest asset in my opinion. If only something could have been done in either a higher or lower register. Overall on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd rate it a 6. Not worthy of the rage that Infinity or Triumphant got, but not worthy of a "yasssss queen" either.

In-fuh-muzzz (66,837) by Andrew from UK
"Judging from the clip of her singing in the show it looks like a boring, soporific slow jam with her ooh-ing and cooing. It really doesn't appear to be the banging tune that she needs to get noticed again. Same old, same old, I reckon." Well, I was mostly right. What a load of crap. Did anyone else say "Oh, fudge off" out loud when the first redundant whistle note came in? No? Just me then. It appears even the diehard lambs are finding it hard to feel positive anymore. I hate to say "I told you so" - no, wait, I love to say that. Let's be honest: it's a piece of boring, dated rubbish. It's shit (if that's censored, picture the colour brown). Infinity seems like a Manet for the ears compared to this. Clicks and auto-tune? She's lost it. In-fuh-muzz? Remember when Mariah Carey was Fuh-muzz? No? Neither does she.
