Re: Duet With Ja Rule prevented a sophomore slump (65,932) (65,933) by Webmaster Eric from the Netherlands
When I look at the USA sales of Jennifer Lopez' albums since 2001, I can't really call them flops:
J.Lo (2001): 3,800,000
This Is Me... Then (2002): 2,600,000
Rebirth (2005): 745,000
Como Amu una Mujer (2007): 213,000
Brave (2007): 168,000
Love? (2011): 346,000
A.K.A. (2014): 71,000

This article is a little shy at describing exactly what went on, admitting what went on. Out of curiosity I went on Wikipedia and noticed that Jennifer Lopez hasn't had a succesfull album in 15 years (her third album being her last). Her last 5 albums basically flopped. Also everytime she's had a hit record, her second single has always flopped in terms of sales. I also noticed one thing (never really noticed that before). Her song "Get right" (well basically Usher's song "Ride" for those who know what I'm talking about) came out 2 months before "It's like that" and The Emancipation Of Mimi" completely overshadowed her project. Mariah pretty much rewrote musical history then after what had happened when Sony sunk Mariah's Glitter and stole so many concepts from this project to sort of reboot Jennifer Lopez 2001 album. Only this time there was no conspiracy involved. Mariah won, solely with her talent.

I can't. They are so smart. Is that even the truth? They admit it but at the same time made it for JLo's own sake. Times like that always gets me frustrated why Mariah doesn't have that type of management, there are so many other great teams for her, or at least in her caliber, so why choose Stella and the gang? Celine have one and btw it's crazy that she gets number of likes on IG like Mariah but she only have less than a million followers and Mariah have 4 million, it says a lot.

Honey 9-3-16 (65,930) by 123 from USA
I used to never watch the Honey performances as it used to be mostly lipped but now she sings most of it live except for the very end. Her tone here sounds so good and I love how she goes for the "cause its blatant that I'm feeling you" growl/belt combo every night. She has me watching her uptempos more to hear what she does next vocally. Some could be mistaken for pre-records as she sounds that good.

Re: Sade (65,921) (65,929) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Sade is golden. I have all her albums, which have increasingly become harder to come by (only 6 so far, and from Lovers Rock, it took a few months shy of a full decade for her to release Soldier Of Love). I especially love her voice more when she was younger, from the Diamond Life to the Love Deluxe era. I'd love Mariah to cover Your Love Is King, War Of The Hearts, Love Is Stronger Than Pride and Kiss Of Life.

Marissa: I want to thank you for your respect and true understanding of what I said. Ty: The second half of my post was positive, so I don't get your commentary, or your personal attacks. I'm fine, no need for concern. And I don't do the back and forth insults so I'ma just say I wish you well and respond. I love MC and it's out of frustration that I'm watching Rihanna collect number ones when some of MC's best never dented the charts. Most of Rihanna's number ones are forgettable. Or watching Adele sell diamond for singing stripped down ballads which MC has done better and could do without thinking. I don't use this board as a personal attack, in fact, I barely post. Every now and then I have a burning rage for something someone has said. Everyone enjoy your week and my song of the moment, that I cannot get enough of is the Never Too Far/Hero medley. Can you believe someone stole my physical copy and when I went to buy it online it's now $50 for a new shrinkwrapped copy? How's that for being negative.

Clevver News (65,925) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So they did a segment on 15 scrapped music videos, after Britney's original "Make Me" music video was scrapped. Anyways I was surprised to see they actually included Mariah's "Underneath The Stars" music video at number 4, because not many people know the song and more importantly not many people know that there was a music video shot. Plus Clevver hardly ever talks about Mariah unless it includes other current artists like her collaboration with Justin and her feud with Ariana and all. Mainly because their core audience is the younger generation.

Duet With Ja Rule prevented a sophomore slump (65,924) by 123 from USA
So Lopez's team admitted to knowing that Mariah sampled the same song. So no more "she didn't know" comments about Mariah being petty saying maybe La Lopez didn't know. With "I don't know her" seemingly not going anywhere, especially with the birth of "I still don't know her" don't expect Mariah to do anything with JLo soon. JLo's team is so smart for finally addressing it like this. Ashanti even admitted they kept her vocals, but supposedly taking off her leads, hmm. Thoughts anyone? Is anyone's minds changed after reading this?

Re: Morgan and Alison (65,915) (65,923) by Licia from USA
Great points. Morgan just wants attention at this point. It just seems like his intention is just to drag Mariah's name through the mud without realizing that what he's saying is stupid and contradictory. He knows dang well that there is nothing either him or Mariah can do for Alison.

Re: A disertation on being negative (65,909) (65,918) by ADAM from USA
Marissa that was a really insightful post. I thought you articulated your opinion really well and also feel a similar way. Mariah has changed in many ways good and bad throughout her career and the hope I have is that one day she will evolve into another phase that is a better balance than her current state. I can deal with the lip syncing of certain parts and the glamorous facade. What grates my nerves increasingly is the false connection she makes with her fans and crappy music she puts out. If she wants to rests on her laurels and sell her name on her past, fine. But don't continue to be inauthentic to your fans and perpetuate that you have this connection with us and connection to your music when its clear you really don't. If she wants to abuse herself and self medicate with drugs, alcohol and/or prescription meds, its not my business or call to make but she shouldn't take advantage of her fan's loyalty and commitment we've made to her throughout the years.

Re: The Truth (65,887) (65,917) by Martyn from England, UK
But you're not keeping anything real, you just come across as a bit bitter and weird. Mariah does my head in at the moment, she's self-centred, lazy and completely disconnected from her fans. But I try to keep my negativity into perspective. She released an incredible album a few years ago and she's shown us recently that she's still capable of amazing live performances when she puts the effort in. If you're that jaded with her, why do you even bother coming to a fan board? Maybe you'd be more suited to JLoDaily or NickiMinajNightly or whatever. I mean, I'm not making a big deal out of it because I barely post here, but I'm just intrigued as to why you would devote so much of your time to spreading negativity where it's not particularly welcome?

Morgan and Alison (65,915) by Bill from the UK
What baffles me, is Morgan previously called Mariah a "witch" for not helping Alison. He is currently belittling the help MC previously gave to her sister by saying that "you don't give money to a heroin addict", which I do agree with. So, my question is, what does he want Mariah to provide Alison with that he himself can't, if not financial? Has he actually said, and I missed it?

I really relate to what you're saying here Marissa. I don't think anyone expects people to always agree with Mariah's choices in the name of being a fan. But, if following her is a constant thorn in your side that leaves you disappointed and miserable, then what is the payoff? Realistically, I just don't expect Mariah to address her voice the way Randy is describing. This is showbusiness, she won't. It just doesn't happen like that. I don't really feel like I'm owed an explanation as a fan either. No one who has been in the game as long as Mariah has, stays vocally the way they were at 19.

Mariah is such an amazing songwriter. She should get much more acknowledgement for that. And Sade is really unique. I love her voice and her style.

Singer-songwriters (65,910) by RibbonB from USA
Props to Mariah for being one of the most prolific of them all and certainly the best selling female artist. There are lots of others who also write songs, including Aretha, Anita, Chaka and one of my other faves Sade. Sade is on her own level because she co-writes all of her songs, but she just drops off, then pops up when she so desires. Sade pays no regard to trends or others' timing lol.

Re: A disertation on being negative (65,898) (65,909) by Marissa from USA
I understand what you are saying and have been labeled as a "negative lamb" myself, but I feel like a lot of people who are chronically dissatisfied with her career follow it out of inertia and habit rather than having genuine hope that things will improve. Nothing that lasts over 10 years is a phase. It's a way of life. That's like parents who have a son that's had 6 boyfriends and still think that him being gay is "just a phase". Mariah will never stop lipsyncing completely. She will never bury all of her diva habits and lingo. She will never go back to making albums that are 85% ballads. Nor will she ever sit down in an interview or Snapchat video and give us a play-by-play of what happened to her voice since 1996. Especially as someone who is considered one of the top 3 singers in history, she will never straight up acknowledge vocal damage, the same way Whitney never did. As a person who set the bar for her vocals as high as a skyscraper from the very beginning, there is too much pressure for her to be perfect for her to completely come clean, which is why she lipsyncs in the first place. Expecting her to go back to who she was 20 years ago is like expecting a person who's been dead for 20 years to dig their way out of their graves and go for a jog around the cemetery. A lot of people think I'm negative but Mariah has actually implemented some of the improvements I have wanted to see which is why I'm still here. If she was steadily pissing me off since having dial-up internet was normal then I wouldn't make myself miserable watching her every move. At the end of the day, I'm not trying to silence you because anyone who doesn't violate the rules of this board has a right to be here whether I agree with your opinions or not, but even as a fellow "negative" lamb, I can't pretend to relate to having Mariah chronically disappoint me to that extent nor can I act like there's any hope of her changing in the ways that you would prefer.
