Re: Duet With Ja Rule prevented a sophomore slump (65,988) (65,991)

The point was that Mariah was sued for copyright infringement and she settled the case: "The judgement was later reversed and the lawsuit reinstated in 2004; Carey and Swirsky settled out of court in 2006." (Wikipedia) Your dancing around it trying to find mistakes in a journalist's copy does nothing to deny this. Facts are facts because they're facts. They don't suddenly become non-facts open to debate because you write something irrelevant and say it proves something else. Nonsense. What people like you are actually trying to do is convince other people of the lies that fit your agenda which actually quite vulgar and disrespectful of other people. Should they be denied the truth because you are emotionally incapable of facing it? In addition, it was understood, as I recall, that Mariah's own notes have her declaring to have written Hero shortly after the movie, for which it was claimed she had written it, was released. Thus, it remained somewhat open ended as to what really happened, despite being dismissed, as although not evidence enough as to the liability, nobody could fathom the huge discrepancy.

I'm not a fan of botox either. I'm pretty sure there are natural enhancers that fade after a few weeks and look more natural. She's always been chubby in her cheeks so anything she puts into her face is only going to emphasise that.

Have you seen the photo of her with KB and his assistant? He makes her up to look like him. It's like their channeling Ken Paves and Jesssica Simpson. She needs a new makeup artist and stylist asap.

Xscape doesn't sing background vocals on TGIFY, they sang the background vocals on the Mr. Dupri remix of ABMB. The article also falsely states JD produced TGIFY which was produced by Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Mariah. This case was dismissed. Try again and maybe next time use a source that knows what theiy're talking about.

I don't. The woman, like Ms. Grande, built her career emulating Mariah. Let's not pretend a shrewd business woman was too young and naive to know what was going on.

Exactly. C&C brought her the tracks used for the Emotions album and she added to them. She's even said she asked them if they thought the songs sound to similar and that they reassured her.

Mariah's face (65,984)
by JAXGH from United States

Why botox? There's skin stretching procedures you can do without having to inject none of that mess in your face. It's temporary but it actually never really look natural. It always makes the person look very odd. That's how Mariah looks right now. Cindy Crawford hasn't aged a bit and it's because she has some serious beauty regiment. I don't understand why Mariah doesn't have that sh*t on lock. She has all the money to take care of that skin (without botox) I can imagine Mariah not having wrinkles until 60. But then again, she really didn't sleep much in her 20's and 30's, plus all the drinking, so I guess age is catching up to her, faster than I thought. I just pray she hires a better dermatologist and a face surgeon.

I hate botox. It makes people look strange and like a mask and not younger. This whole Hollywood industry is so sick. I mean as an actress all you have is your body and mimic. If you look like joker from the comic this has nothing to do with beauty and a youthful looking. A musician should concentrate on the music. Poor superficial ones who think they need anything with 30 or 40. It's ridiculous.

Wednesday meet and greet drama (65,982)
by Ty from USA
| |
|
|
Firstly, the show was festive. We waited 2 hours upstairs for Mariah. James bday was going on so she made us wait. We took pics with the dancers, makeup artist and then some fell asleep. Mariah arrived at 12am, she was gracious, talked to each lamb then the drama one lamb and security got into it. Which was messy. Mariah's team told the lamb "she doesn't even like you, she tolerates you". He spent $7500 on meet and greets. Stella was gracious and hugged fans telling them "she just got her boobs done". She was actually cool.

Sampling was in its infancy. Mariah has credited the original writers since the Emotions debacle. Xscape claimed she plagiarized Traces Of My Lipstick with TGIFY and they lost their case because the melody is different as are the cord progressions. The dude that claimed to have written Hero is full of it.

I agree. She was excellent in Precious and The Butler. She also did well in Wise Girls and Tennessee. Glitter was her only acting mishap. Her role in A Christmas Melody was a glorified cameo. I'm glad she's honing her skills behind the camera because her music videos have become bleak. Maybe directing these side projects will inspire some creativity with her next music videos.

Mariah's songwriting (65,977)
by RibbonB from USA
| |

People have to remember that Mariah does not generally write her own music, though she does collaborate on the melody etc. She works with musicians or producers bring her in tracks from which she works, so there are a lot of hands in the pot when it comes to any possible lifting. I don't think that Mariah ever deliberately set out to steal or copy anyone's music and certainly not lyrics. Most people are influenced by others and some even pay homage and get a little too close. If it gets too close then they take it to court like the Marvin Gaye family did to Pharrell and Robin Thicke.

I have no problem with her Empire role, in fact I look forward to it. But I think she would really be great in this new show, with her mixed race heritage, she would be perfect for that show's setting, or equally as good, to provide some music. I think Michelle Ndgeocello (sorry for the spelling) is controlling the music for this show, so it will be eclectic and soulful.

Mariah's Empire role looks tailor made for her. Lee and Danny Strong have crafted the perfect character for her. It doesn't look campy and she's not acting like a caricature of herself. She looks stunning and she seems natural. She doesn't seem aware of the camera. Lee seems to bring out the best of her as an actress. I hope the song is amazing. I hope it's a breezy throwback ala #Beautiful with Miguel.

RJJ, I agree with you that sampling and sampling "arrangements" were still relatively was new in the early 90's. James Brown and George Clinton had to jump into the fight early on, due to their heavily sampled music in Hip Hop. One of the most prominent cases that comes to mind is MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This", which totally uses Rick James' "SuperFreak" opening guitar riff. From Wikipedia: "The sample of Super Freak that forms the basis of the song led to Rick James and other performers on the original record to file a lawsuit for infringement of copyright. The suit was settled out of court when Hammer agreed to credit James as a songwriter, effectively granting James millions of dollars in royalties." Now it is common practice to give co-writer credit up front. Dr. Dre used to budget for lawsuits based on songs he sampled in the early days. Since that time, rules and precedents have been established to appropriately credit and compensate writers for songs which have been sampled, or borrowed from. I also agree that it is different from someone stealing the sample that she planned to use. That said, I do think the grudge if you can call it that, is far too long drawn out. Mariah has gone so far beyond all that and Jenny is just whatever, IMO. Lol.

It's pretty obvious she's having botox which isn't permanent. Joan Rivers was having plastic surgery and face lifts in her thirties. Most celebrities have botox because it fades after months and they usually have it done about 1 month prior to an event so they looks flawless on camera. My guess is she's been having it around her under eyes and cheek area because she's never really used many expressions with her forehead but she does smile a lot.

Separated at birth? Ahem. No hold on, this is serious. You look very similar and write very similarly. Now, I can't tell Licia's race from the photograph, but I'm still calling separation at birth. Hashtag that. I could be onto something here. I jest, of course. But I'm sure everybody appreciates your posts.

Mariah has been embroiled in plagiarism cases from the word go. I have no opinion on the matter save to say that they existed and she paid them off. To decree that she was perfectly innocent is a virtuous step and why not? Go for it. The benefit of the doubt is worthy of someone who has written so many other songs that have not been called into question. However, the argument that it was normal during the Emotions days is very thin, such was the consternation of the other composers: "She lifted the whole song." TGIFY was high profile because it hit number one (despite being critically slated as Mariah's first dip into repetitive banality). Standing O I recall reading about. Perhaps on here. My own words may be used against me and those posts can be thumbed up to Kingdom come, my emotions will not be affected in a negative way. I think most readers here will appreciate I don't lie or embellish. Things are as they are as they are. Finally, I love your avatar. Do you have it because that's the first time Vibe Magazine put a white woman on the cover? Wait I forget: do you get annoyed easily or not easily? I always forget that part. Keep readin', I'll keep writin'.

This interview shows a lovely MC. Mariah had a cold but she did her best and sounded so sexy. She acted like the superstar she is. And this is just too cute. I love all the interviews from Hey Hey Hey in Australia. Back in the day who could imagine that in 2015 Mariah would hire Stella B. I will never understand it.

Wow this new show on Oprah's network OWN, is epic already. The soundtrack sounds amazing. This is the kind of show Mariah would be perfect on, although I think it is a well thought out show that won't be parading random celebrities in cameos. But, Mariah could be perfect on it. At the least, she should try to get some of her music on the show. She has her hands full to the max with so much random stuff though, what a shame.
