I agree with you. That's my question for a long time now. I don't understand why Mariah Carey, one of the best-selling artist in history of music, 18 #1's, one of the queens of R&B, agreed to make a music video like the "Auld Lang Syne", had a lyric video like "Infinity"and the list goes on. I'm not saying that her image must be like in the "Tommy" era but a little bit precaution in actions, choosing the fashion choices that suits with her caliber and consistency in making great visuals are not that bad especially in the industry where she's revolving because I do believe that at the end of the day "image is everything".

Mariah looks amazing. She isn't having a midlife crisis. Some fans and critics take her too seriously. Especially quotes that can be taken out of context. When Mariah says she's eternally twelve she means she's still a child at heart. She's not claiming to be an actual twelve year old.

That and the fact that she keeps encouraging the "shades" and "eternally 12" thing. Stella keeps highlighting the "I don't know her" diss a lot of times, and also the whole "eternally 12". Even saying Mishka is "eternally 12". Like what the fudge? Mishka is only 12. Give it a rest. In stead of being a kiss ass, Mariah needs someone that can guide her. It is true that Mariah may not like bossy people around her but she does need a strict guide and Stella is mostly just an enabler. Going "yass queen" on everything Mariah does, regardless of whether it's good or bad. I keep repeating that image is everything in this business, and Mariah's image is not fully on track.

It does make her sound weird during interviews especially when she is adamant about it and will refuse to accept her age no matter how the interviewer tries to spin it. The whole "VOL came out when I was in the womb" is silly. Most people would be proud to admit that "I have been in the business for 25 years and I am still relevant and am considered an icon". Plus this whole "scared to accept she is growing older" will definitely affect Roc and Roe's perception too since they look up to her so much.

The eternally 12 thing is disturbing quite frankly. Like no, you're 46 and your children will soon be 12. You are not 12, Mimi. I mean we're all children at heart but I don't get why she keeps repeating this stuff in every interview. It's kind of cringeworthy. I'm actually starting to question if she's being serious when she says that.

Mariah's brand/image (62,766)
by BIGGEST MC FAN from UNITED STATES

One of the things that I don't like about Mariah is her tacky brand. Up until the Rainbow era, her style and image was flawless. She dressed great in public, her photoshoots were elegant, and music videos were elegant, etc. Then starting from the Rainbow era, she started cheapening her brand. That Rainbow album cover art is tragic and so cheap, the whole glitter and charmbraclet eras looked incredibly cheap as well. The music videos and how she dressed started to become tacky. Look at this for example. Tragic. The Emancipation era had quality though but everything after that is just incredibly tacky for someone like Mariah frikken Carey. Like look at this. And she did that duet with Bieber. So when people say stuff like "Mariah shouldn't be dressing like that" they're not saying that she shouldn't dress in a sexy way. They're saying she shouldn't dress like she's on the same budget as Azealia Banks. She should dress like she's worth half a billion dollars.

We're talking about it because it was brought up during Mariah's appearance on WWHL. Look at it this way, Divas Live 2030 is on and Mariah is front stage centre singing Hero. Ariana then starts, stands in front of her and starts screeching and warbling across her, whilst Beyonce hangs back and sings along with the backing singers. You'd all be baying for Ariana's blood and praising Beyonce. Mariah's voice was in fine form that night and she's said on numerous occassions that you simply don't try to outdo the queen of soul. Everybody else on stage got the memo, and knew this was Aretha's song and her moment, except Celine.

Seriously, what's wrong with that? Why are people still talking about that? The important thing is that Mariah sounded great there and held up wonderfully against Aretha. Celine sounded really great too and it seems like Celine had a good time on that stage. Chain Of Fools was an iconic performance btw.

The way I looked at their exchange, I don't think he meant Mariah is a b****, I think he meant it as a term of endearment just joking around and then I think it was like he and Mariah at the same time were basically calling him one for even suggesting that she's fragile.

I agree and disagree. First let me say I completely loved all the divas' voices on Natural Woman that night, they all brought a special flavor to their parts. I throughly enjoyed Celine and Aretha's back and forth towards the end both really shine and held their own. However, technically speaking Natural Woman is Aretha's signature song and it is kind of in bad taste to try to outsing someone on their song. Aretha and Celine were so busy competing that they didn't allow poor Carol King (the writer of the song) to sing one line. Now I don't care what anyone says that's sad on both their parts. I have to agree with Mariah you should revere the legends that came before you and at the same time they should show respect as well. My verdict is it's better to try to compliment each others voices rather than having a sing off.

I love Mariah to death, but when is she going to realize she's not 20 anymore? I'm not saying she should dress like an old lady, but this is a bit much. Even when she posed in her bathing suit on her Instagram almost made me want to unfollow.

I wholeheartedly agree. Since when is dimming your light for others to shine necessary to show respect? I really don't understand why people are so bothered by Celine giving her all at the Divas Live performance. Now if Aretha sounded hoarse or like she was struggling then maybe I would agree that she should have taken it easy on her, but Aretha was holding her own, so I don't find it inappropriate or disrespectful at all. We love Mariah. Wonderful. But I don't see the point in tearing Celine down to prove that or why a performance from 18 years ago is being scrutinized so intensely.

Celine, Patti, Aretha, and all that stuff (62,756)
by Stacey from USA

I can remain quiet no more on this subject. Celine trying to out sing Aretha? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the 1998 show called Divas Live? I don't recall producers calling it the Aretha Franklin tribute. This whole notion that Celine was trying to upstage Aretha is ridiculous. Celine is successful just like the other divas on stage, so what's wrong in being allowed to show off for a moment during a song? Mariah had no issues doing it during Chain Of Fools. In fact, her and Aretha were battling for vocal supremacy during the final moments of song. I hear no complaints toward MC trying to outsing Aretha. Seems to me the issue is with Celine personally, masking the dislike for her or any other singer behind some silly upstaging argument. I don't understand pitting one artist against the other. I can like MC without putting Celine down and vice versa. I must be gifted in my ability to read messages about other singers without the need to criticize them, lol.

Didn't smash anything on Natural Woman. It was clear she was "trying" to out shine everyone on stage, but she didn't. She had the stronger voice, but Mariah's voice is miles better. And like I said, she was lucky Patti wasn't there that night. The reason she didn't attend was because Aretha didn't want her there. Aretha has never liked anyone who can top her vocals or sing over her. Patti destroyed her with her "Ain't no way" cover tribute in '93. Aretha herself knew she had been slayed. But still to this day I can't understand why Gloria, Shania and Carole were there. None of them are divas or can sing. Can you imagine if Patti, Whitney or Barbra had been there. It would have been a diva show down haha. Lord that would have been epic.

Parties and often hanging out with people much younger? Mariah loves kids as she has her own. Stella happens to have a best friend type of relationship with her daughter and there's nothing wrong with loving your friend's kid. Stella tags her along with everything, not Mariah. Drinking a lot and acting the fool? Mariah drinks but she's never too out of it and handles her business well, there's nothing major foolish she's really done so you're a little bit overreacting. A general blasé attitude to the God given talent and ability? Again, what are you on? She's not smoking crack all day getting high, she's performing better than ever in years. Her tour was incredible. And she wouldn't have lasted this long if she didn't take care of her voice. Acting younger at middle age than during the 20s and 30s? Mariah is eternally 12 and oblivious to age. This is not a brand new information to us lambs lol. She's always acted the same, the first 7 years she was confined so let her be. Wearing less and less clothing in public? She's been free as a butterfly since 1997. She's always dressed sexy and there's nothing wrong with it. She does not have one wrinkle on her body and frankly, you've got to flaunt it before it's gone. Check Beyonce, J. Lo and Madonna, it's part of the job. Your mind has this illusion that these are "problems" when in reality everything is fine. She didn't derail. She's relevant, she has offers, she has tours, she has movies, she has new music on the way. She's not broke or homeless, and she has things going for her. In fact, she's taking control of her career more than ever. Just accept her for who she is, let her have fun and enjoy the ride. Dahling.

To reply to the other points you made. Mariah has always been drinking and partying. The only thing new here, is that it is being shared to social media, when before it was kept private away from the public view. So what if she hangs out with younger people than her? She has always had parties with guest of all ages, younger and older.
