Re: Prince (61,528) (61,531)

Releasing a previously unfinished song by Prince may be controversial though. People get really angry when other artists release collaborations with deceased artists, especially when the deceased partner was heavily involved in the songwriting-producing aspect (which Prince certainly was). People start throwing mud saying "Prince wouldn't approve" or "Mariah is banking on Prince's death" and the likes. However I agree that people might only learn to respect Mariah when it's too late. It's funny how the less talented artists are so respected and hyped up and Mariah's achievements are mostly downplayed or ignored. They have basically written her off, so that kind of makes me want her to come back with a killer album.

It is sexism. It's also ageism. If she was in her 20's they would say it was sexy. I still can't believe the backlash she's been receiving from fans over pictures uploaded/posted on her social media accounts. She's stunning and her body looks amazing. If she wants to show off her hard work I say do it. The infamous shot of her behind was sexy. She's working her ass off to look and sound her best and she should be applauded for doing so. Her voice is otherworldly. Countless people said her best days, vocally, were behind her but she's slaying on her Sweet Sweet Fantasy world tour. I think she needs to release a new single to coincide with the premiere of Mariah's World.

Prince (61,528)
by B from USA
| |

Mariah and Prince worked on a song for the Glitter soundtrack album that wasn't finished in time. I hope this song is released in the future. I think it would be a fitting tribute to him for her to finish the song if it still isn't finished or if it is release it. I remember being excited when it was revealed they were working together and I was disappointed when it didn't make the album. Mariah is one of the last true legends living and she deserves respect from not only her fans but from the industry and the public. Unfortantely, I don't think her genius will be recognized properly until she is no longer with us.

I think it has got something to do with Prince's passing. Such a great artist he was. All my prayers for his family. I could only imagine how much of an influence Prince had on Mariah. I guess Mariah was really affected by his passing.

Mariah's concert in Paris, question (61,524)
by Jp from Argentina
| |
|
|
Hey there. I attended the show in Paris and I have to say, Mariah s voice was so good and in such a better shape than it was in Vegas, for example. I enjoyed the songs, her voice, her dresses everything. However, she was not her festive self. I imagine that might have had something to do with Prince passing away because she did not speak a lot throughout the concert, a couple of times she even said something like "lets go straight into the song" when she usually talks and makes an introduction to it and she even skipped Against All Odds. When it was time to leave, she left and that was it. Again, I really enjoyed the concert so please don't hate me over this because there is no reason but I'd like to know if anybody else attending felt the same. I stayed up to 2 am waiting for her to come out the Arena and when she said her car drove by her fans super fast and we did not even catch a glimpe of her. We all thought she was going to lower her window for 1 second to say bye since it was late and cold and even very dump but nope. Very strange. Any thoughts?

Sorry, but your post comes off as sexist. Why can't a female artist wear revealing clothes and act sexy and not become respected? It is sexist to say that Mariah should cover up to be more respected. Nobody should receive less respect for wearing more revealing clothes. So what if she exposes her twins? So what if Mariah chooses to act sexy? So what if she chooses the sing in little clothes? Does that take away from her talent and her craft? Smh, you really do think that Mariah deserves less respect for wearing clothes that she like?

I can see your point, but you should take into account when she said she wanted to be taken as seriously as Mary. This was 1995 Mariah with the perfect "girl next door/preacher's wife" image, who was still repressed in every single aspect of her life. She was itching to do music with a "harder edge" since she her music back then was considered by people like Crystal Light. Sweet, light, and pretty. She cared a lot more back then about what people thought about her. Whitney and Oprah told her it was because she was in her 20's and once she hit her 30's, she wasn't going to care anymore. Even if Mariah did cover up, I don't know if she will ever get the credibility she deserves. Even in her early days she was covered up but only got recognition for her singing, for some reason, public opinion has always been polarizing when it came to Mariah. Regarding Coco and Chanel, I do wish she would sometimes make better choices. There are some numbers that are way too risqué, especially in the presence of children. I remember the Adventures tour and there were two young girls in front of me who just wanted to hear her sing WBT, I was embarrassed they could see all the booty. Revealing is sexy in her eyes as she is insecure and didn't always feel pretty growing up and first got attention from a guy who told her she had a nice ass when she wore some tight jeans. So takes a page from Toni Braxton, "How high is that slit, I'll take it." Who grew up as the nerdy preacher's kid and not the beautiful sex siren image she has today. She just needs a better stylist who can have her look, dress, and feel sexy without being overexposed. Stella, since you are cleaning house, add a new stylist to the list.

If she brings vocals from the best nights of this tour she will do great. She needs to make sure the live vocals are on point because a predominantly African American crowd will call her out in an instant. I don't want it to be another Jamaica saga. I wouldn't mind her magically adding a Chicago date. One can dream.

Mimi L / Next Chapter / Andrew (61,517)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
You just made my day. That color shot is so much better. I think (just for arguments sake) that would be one of her best album covers and I love the title Next Chapter. Andrew I can never tell when you are being serious or sarcastic but I will say this: I wish that the general public could hear MCs introspective songs like Vanishing, The Wind, Looking In, Close My Eyes, Outside, Petals, Twister, Right To Dream, Languishing. The image and the lyrics of those songs are such a disconnect. I know I sound like a broken record, but, the woman is a lyrical genius. She is up there with Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Jewel, Bonnie Raitt, Sarah MC and Lauryn Hill and in my opinion gets less respect as a singer/songwriter than Alicia Keys and Diane Warren and she's way better than them. And I feel like the image is in the way. What I realize now though, is MC is multidimensional. Her silliness is as much a part of her as her seriousness. I am falling in love with her all over again. I am one of the minority that didn't like MIAMTEC but loved Memoirs. I want new music because I am still not satisfied since 2009.

I think Mariah should do and dress and act as she pleases. She is in fact a credible singer songwriter artist whatever you want to call it that's touched and moved millions and millions and millions of people with her songs and raw talent. Music is not heard with the eyes. Her boobs have not erased what people felt or her achievements. Those posts were in response to something spoken how many years ago. Just my opinion.

Hi Yiorgos. A friend of mine and I are also attending the concert tomorrow (that is, she is kind enough to join me as she is not a lamb of any sorts). Have you received any emails regarding a time change, as another person mentioned here (saying that the concert starts around 21:00). I think I'll try to be there around 18:30, unless it's too early. By the way, based on your name, should I assume that you are Greek too?

The breast boob (61,512)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|

The recent postings about Mariah wanting to be taken as seriously as MJB, et al., are interesting. Especially given the fact that it can't be true. How can somebody who [...] reveals as much of them as possible at every given opportunity (even in a bloody wet suit) mean to be taken seriously as a credible artist and not be mocked? It's about time Mariah put her breasts away. Perhaps then her fans wouldn't be mocked themselves when declaring their love for her music. Many roads lead to her having given up on real credibility in order to get qualification by feeling physically desired. It goes with many videos of her touching her breasts and/or being almost naked and/or trying to act like a sexy princess/hoochy mama. On the Adventures Of Mimi tour she was singing practically naked. Mariah may want to consider putting the girls to bed at last and acting a little more like a globally-renowned recording artist and less like an adult entertainer. Let that be the new era.

How does Mariah's team have people purchase tickets for Friday by accident but she's performing Saturday. Smh here's my fear those African American fans will destroy her if those vocals aren't perfect. They are coming for "vocals". She needs to include "Fly like a bird".

Lol Andrew is always a gag. The kids vocals were perfection. And the crazy thing is the adults joined in. Hero is universal and will go down in history as a classic, even if ms. Carey feels it's corny.
