If Mariah doesn't want to carry a baby anymore, we have a surrogacy, it's not an issue or big of a deal these days thanks to Ms. Tyra Banks bravery. In Rainbow's defense (59,776) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines I see how Rainbow be perceived as having a subpar quality compared to the earlier material. To some extent, I agree with that perception, as Rainbow is definitely not as good as any of its predecessors. But that doesn't mean that it is bad by any measure (it's one of the better records released that year). I believe the problem with it is the consistency of the material. It has some really strong tracks (Heartbreaker, CTTA, Bliss, Crybaby, Petals) but it's weighed down by songs that fall short in recreating/recapturing Mariah's former glories (After Tonight, Against All Odds, heck, even TGIFY but at least that one was somehow successful) and tracks that tried to follow the rising urban-pop trend at the time but ended up sounding like TLC rejects (How Much, X-Girlfriend). It also happens to be the first time that the filler had become glaringly obvious in a Mariah album. It offers the first glimpses of Mariah the diva. But I'm gonna cut Mimi some slack for still being able to come up with a body of work at all especially considering the circumstances at the time of its creation. Besides, it really is next to impossible to followup the one-two punch of Daydream and Butterfly, even for someone as brilliant as Mariah. To me, it sounds somehow similar to MOAIA, although this trumps that album in terms of diversity and hit potential. (Monday 15 February 2016; 11:31)

I missed the chance to see her in Vegas on my birthday last year, and I wasn't quite ready to be as festive as the rest of the crowd at her 2nd Annual Night of Joy and Festivity at The Beacon this past December. I had major health problems, and was physically and emotionally incapacitated so I left the show feeling robbed of the chance to enjoy the experience. My guardian angel of a husband prevented me from taking out my frustrations on the wrong people. Now, I feel ready for more Mariah. She's never too far away. (Monday 15 February 2016; 6:20)

I know most young people who have heard songs from E=MC2 loved it. It's funny because I hear a lot of fans on this board (like Andrew) talk badly about that E=MC2 and say that it wasn't a good album. Though it might not have been so cohesive and some lyrics could've been more mature (trill anyone?), from what I've seen it was very popular among people especially young adults and some older ones. Like I said before I played the CD back in high school during an school event and everyone loved it. The point is Mariah needs to make a CD, as pop friendly as E=MC2, as cohesive as MIAM, as laid back as Daydream, as vocally challenging as TEOM with deep meaningful lyrics of Butterfly. When she promotes the album she needs to sing like it's the debut era again as if she has something to prove. Then she can bow out gracefully and go and raise dem babies. As I mentioned in a previous post that most non fans and the general public don't like rappers on a Mariah song. Rapping appeals to a very small market and not the general public and unfortunately the results have shown in Mariah's recent attempt. I immediately skip Dedicated on MIAM because the rapper speaking at the beginning is a put off. We all know that I'm not a fan of Adele but I do respect her success and music and if you look at Adele's formula, you will see that her hits are aimed at the general public where everybody is likely to like it and you can hear clearly the lyrics that she is singing. When someone sings the lyrics clearly, then you can hear and connect to the meaning of the song but singing fast and having rappers does not appeal to everybody. Again, as much as I loved the message from Triumphant, I really did not like the rappers. Sometimes, Mariah works with rappers who are literally unknown. I mean, who is Mike Mills and Wale? She also worked with Freeway, Cameron and Shawna (a friend of Da Brat). I've never heard of these rappers only until they were featured on a Mariah song. To me, Mariah is the best singer and songwriter of all time with the capability of writing many more number 1 hits. She just needs to rework the formula and re-engineer her production with people who are in touch with the current trends in music and who will help her incorporate her style into that. She can still be who she is but give us something relevant and lose this et producers who still live in the 70s like Big Jim. (Sunday 14 February 2016; 20:38)

The last time she made her signature uptempo pop song was with Loverboy and even that had a different feel to it because of the baseline. She used to get criticized at the time for having a "formula" that she kept repeating. I think enough time has past where if she were to attempt it again like she did on Beautiful, people will gravitate to it. Something for the summer. I believe that's subjective, because fo me E=MC is filled with great tunes and just because she is not belting like roosters in morning such as Daydream it doesn't mean they aren't good decent songs, some are even more than decent. I love almost every song in that album and Memoirs had some little gems as well. I truly loved Betcha Gona Know, Hate U and The Impossible. I thought Hate U was actually an amazing song with lyrics that a lot of people can relate to, a tormented relationship of love and hate. I felt it was more unique lyrically than other love songs she made before. You say she failed to emulate young artists yet Touch My Body was a huge success and Obsessed did also fairly well among young people. I felt it had this air to blame it on the alcohol and it sounded catchy and fun, the video for fans is hilarious. I loved the stalker with all the room covered in Mariah memorabilia. It almost felt like a creep haha. I wished I had a room like that in my home. The few things I dislike from her more new material compared to her old ones is the sound quality and the over production in some songs where everything going on seems too much. Though I also felt Rainbow has a subpar sound quality compared to earlier materials. Really am I the only one who likes E=MC that much? I don't want to think so. It is such a fun album with great tunes more than [...] written. I love Daydream and Music Box, but Daydream doesn't feel like an album that has an overall uplifting and exciting vibe, it's filled with ballads and I take it as one of those albums in which I have to be in a mood to put it on now at days. E=MC is cheerful, I can play it even if I clean the home around and feel energetic. To each their own I guess. (Sunday 14 February 2016; 18:34)

That pure pop rush (59,766) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines Remember the unadulterated pop rush you felt when you first heard Dreamlover, Fantasy or Heartbreaker? That's a feeling I would like to feel from Mariah again. She hasn't had that since #Beautiful, which sadly never lived up to its potential, and YDKWTD, which never really took off. She would kill with a vulnerable ballad, but I can't help but hope for a sunny, upbeat, poppy anthem from her. While I'm waiting for that, I'm really loving Gwen Stefani's new single. I have been waiting for the second coming of a hit as brilliant as Lovefool by The Cardigans, and while this is not at that level, it's the best attempt at recreating that magic I have ever heard. It has that fizzy, joyous pop vibe that make you feel all giddy inside. Really well done, Gwen. (Sunday 14 February 2016; 8:04)

If anything she could just pull out the number she wore on the Vibe cover during the Daydream era. There was no chaise in My All or did you not notice. She only does the intro and outro on the jet ski during Honey. She needs props instead of just standing there. Vibrato? On what notes? She only held, like the last two and there was no sign of strain, struggle and her tone was clear. I thought the blend of Hero/Never Too Far was horrible. Both of those songs are meant to be sung on their own. Give me a full song. You want her to be Celine (white) so bad when she's been lipping since the early 90s. Everyone says Mariah's the queen of pre-records but Celine has her beat as she lips so much better than Mariah. You say for her to be honest and sing live, she sings TGIFU live and you say it isn't impressive. You critique her on her weight, she loses it and now you hate the gowns? I don't get how Isaac gets banned, Illuminati boy gets banned (I would rather see a million of his posts than one of yours), but you insult Mariah and others on the board everyday and you get to stay. I am all for this collaboration, I think they can create a strong uplifting power anthem. Cross between "pretty hurts" and "imperfect". Or they can go for a club banger. I know it's all subjective of course, but that's not even remotely close to a true statement. There are too many great examples of her song-writing skills within the last 10 years to list. Unfortunately, I agree with the gist in that in the past decade they've been overthought, over-produced, with a melange of melodies in trying to be too clever, and sometimes with lyrics unbecoming and forgetful ("outside the kitchen window right now"). They haven't been aimed at the charts. I don't believe Mariah can't write a 1989 or some such. She just doesn't want to. And this makes it doubly more confusing because she only ever performs a greatest hits session on stage which features hardly any modern stuff for another display of the same songs over and over. It's very bizarre. You'll be accused of being a troll but your point of view is somewhat valid, in my opinion. Seems to be a growing general consensus amongst lambs and fans alike that she needs to get back to her day-job and write music people want to hear instead of more self-indulgence. I don't care what people say about MIAM, when I play Mariah I don't play it anymore. It's dated even now. (Saturday 13 February 2016; 19:15)

We take for granted that Mariah's been in the industry for over 25 years since 1988 constantly working and having success. Mariah set the bar too damn high, even for today's generation. It was a different time and a different place. Mariah doesn't have the luxury like Madonna did in her mid 40s to reinvent herself for success because it's a different music landscape. Also, Mariah's last hit came in 2013 with Beautiful. It went platinum that year and it made Billboard Hot 100 at #15. That's 3 years not 10 years. (Saturday 13 February 2016; 15:26)

What's wrong with today's pop stars? (59,758) by Lee from UK I find this a bit rich coming from Mariah as she hasn't written a decent song in over 10 years. Additionally, she has tried and failed to emulate what the young stars are doing both musically (and in terms of her online presence) and this has done her no favours. I love Mariah's (older) music and I always will. I'm going to see her twice in 3 days when she tours the UK and I'm glad it's a bunch of her older stuff as her more modern music has been pretty pants. If I want modern pop diva, I'll listen to Beyoncé, Ariana or Adele. I'd rather Mariah to sing like Mariah. (Saturday 13 February 2016; 10:31)

Mariah is really on "faya" looking 20 years younger. Even though she inspired Bey into singing, she doesn't age at all.
