Mariah's version of Watch Me Whip (Nae Nae) (60,331)

While we are all having a meltdown over the reality show, take some time and check out this snippet of Mariah singing a snippet of "Watch me whip (watch me Nae Nae)".

Reality TV (60,330)

B, Luke and Licia, ugh tell me about it. I knew there is an unscripted series in the making because months back it was confirmed that Stella and her partner Brian are producing it. I was hoping real hard that it was more of a documentary than a straight up "reality show". I don't understand why it is named "Mariah's Squad" if it is about Mariah's backstage rituals and Mariah? I really don't care to know about her "squad" which now consists of only the Bulochnikovs. She should have kept it "A butterfly in Vegas" or "A butterfly around the world" whatever. I agree with all of you when you say people won't really get Mariah's personality. It might in fact lead to people disliking her more because they would take her "just for laughs" diva-ness as the real thing. I don't want just the cameras following her like they do with Kardashians, of her just sitting and eating salads and all. But I guess it would include those since a camera man is always following her around nowadays, you can even see him in the "I still don't know her" video and it was mentioned she had the interviewers sign an agreement that this might be used for her show when she was doing interviews at 1OAK. I would rather have some real moments like seeing her pre-show rituals, her rehearsals, how she sometimes writes songs during tours. I would like her to be vocal about difficulties she faced in the past few years (like B said), instead of just sweeping it under the rug. This can help her connect with people if she is genuine and down to earth. Also like Licia said, I hope it doesn't delay her album further. I would like her to take this opportunity (since she is going to do the show either ways) to show behind the scenes moments of her recording the song, or trying out melodies to see which one sounds better. You know just how she records her songs. It will help people know that she is not just a dtizy diva with a big voice but an intelligent songwriter and producer. Since they are calling it a "docu-series" there will definitely be more than 1 part I am sure, but I hope they don't cheapen her and make it a season long. 3-4 parts is more than enough. Stella is behind Paris Hilton's "My new Bff", I'll just leave you all to ponder over that haha.

That'll be good if it's a documentary style movie. How could they do a TV series? That would be boring since it would mostly be the same things going on. I do agree the name is a bit random, I liked the other one that was going around "A Butterfly In Vegas". But if she goes with Mariah's Squad she could name her next album Mariah Carey. Fairy Squad Mother.

Mimi L. your response is way better than mine was when I first read about the reality show. I actually cursed. Lol I knew when I read that Stella dealt with reality shows that Mariah would eventually be on one. I'm not happy about it. I don't want it to turn into something that will give nonfans another reason to dislike her. They look for anything bad. I also feel it's going to push the process of her recording new music further away.

Article: Mariah Carey "to shoot docu-series" (60,319)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

Not sure how to feel about this. To me at least, "reality" shows have rarely been tolerable, let alone "real". You know how slapstick is widely considered the lowest form of comedy? "Reality" shows are like the slapstick of TV - no - of entertainment. If Mariah comes out with this, I fear that even her star power and quirky personality isn't gonna be enough to distinguish it from other similar shows and her version of it will always be judged not by its own merits, but how it stands against other shows of the same format, and God knows there aren't a lot of good ones out there. I love how fearless she is about dipping her toes in other ventures, and kudos for her for being a woman of the world, but I kinda just hope she channeled that same fearlessness in her music. After all, that's where and how it all began. Heck, that's how and why we're all here in the first place.

Mariah's Squad (60,318)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
It has been confirmed that Mariah will be doing a reality show name "Mariah's Squad" which will feature behind the scenes moments of her Vegas show and her new tour. I hope this is less "reality tv drama" and more "behind the scenes and true Mariah moments" where people get to see her funny down to earth style. It has already been mentioned that Mariah is hilarious on the show so I am excited for that and I do want to see her backstage rituals and all and how she prepares for shows. I just wish it wasn't named "Mariah's Squad". It sounds a little childish. And Lord brace yourself to see Stella's babies in every shot since they are always there and if Stella's instagram is anything to go by, they also recorded parts with her daughters. Or it might just be a shot of them pretending to be on camera, I don't know. But Stella please lose the name "Mariah's Squad".

Wendy Williams (60,316)
by Travon..SweetSweetFantasy from USA

Wendy Williams admitted she might have started the "I still don't know her" comment from Mariah on her show today. She played JLo's " Mariah's forgetful shade" and then played TMZ's "Mariah shade". She even gave a correct history as to why Mariah could have a grudge. I found Wendy Williams honesty for Mariah Carey today refreshing. She even complemented both of them and seemed apologetic. I love the respect she showed today for both ladies and didn't put them against each other. She said young kids can learn from JLo and Mariah's diva feud because it's classy and won't result in street fighting. She usually tells everything halfway with Mariah and she was completely honest today. I actually enjoyed her hot topics. I don't say that often with Wendy. Bravo.

Black dresses over and over (60,315)
by Amber C from USA
| |

I need an artistic lamb to make a collage of Mariah's black dresses. lol. I'm tired of them lol. 75 percent of the clothes she's worn in the last 25 years have been black, and most commonly long black dresses or short black dresses. I wish she would wear more color and even more slacks, dress pants. But I guess the black dress is one of her iconic symbols. Butterfly ring: check. Brown eye-shadow: check. Beauty mark on the chin: check. Bronzed skin: check. Blonde waves or pin straight: check. What else am I missing? Lol.

Plus the Nas feature on her AKA album. Atleast Mariah isn't going on about it, she keeps her answers short and to the point. Basically she's telling J Lo to get off her back.

Not sure how posts here can be interpreted and generalized like everything MC does is perfect, because it seems by and large like people understand she's not perfect. Music is subjective. Hits and misses are part of anything. Ardis and Licia bring up good points about making the music she wants to make vs having strings of #1's. You can never please everyone, and we're all bound to go through cycles that maybe don't feel as inspired to the listener (Infinity for some for example). All MC can do is move forward making music that feels good. Whether people agree with the musical choices she makes, is a whole other topic. Lol. She loves R&B and rap/hip-hop, so I doubt those elements would ever vanish completely from her influences as a musician.

As much as I adore JLo, I felt the pride as lamb when Mariah fights back with another classy shade. Like Mimi L., if possible I like for her to tone down the shades but that is just really great I can't haha. At least Mariah is consistent with her statement and if she will ask again about that I guess she might say that she doesn't really know her on a personal level at all so what else she can say about her. I got pissed when JLo says "she's forgetful" and "they've met many times" like girl, when? In your dreams? In 2012 or 2013 she guested in WWHL and says that "they've never met" and suddenly she is saying that they've met "many times", how interesting JLo? Girl, the only "Mariah" thing that you meet is her robbed songs, remember your #1 hit "I'm Real"? Just want to share this tweet from a hilarious lamb: "Mariah: I will go to Vegas. JLo: I will go to Vegas. Mariah: I am going to sign with Epic. JLo: I am going to sign with Epic."

Article: Las Vegas shows a complete disaster? (60,306)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Oh wow this article seems so legit, I can't even. Like the name of the source gives it enough credibility (spelling Stars with a "Z", because they are not mainstream like you "less-ers"). I didn't know that Celine has started twerking on stage in bedazzled bodysuits and feather boa now because how else has she been in the Vegas game for so many years, selling out shows like hot cakes with "just her voice". I mean it's not like people listen to singers for their voice or talent right? Also to hell with Caesar's Palace business, they will incur loss to keep Mariah's ego afloat right? Seriously though who writes these articles? There should be a limit to how much people can just make up articles to create drama. First of all if they want to compare Mariah's show to anyone, it should be Celine's. Secondly JLo just started her residency, of course her first few shows may do better because it's the newest act, and this is Mariah's third leg of the residency.

I'm from the USA, and I think Donald Trump is a total a$$h@le. I also think politics is stupid. I wish there was another planet that I could fly away too. Sometimes the things that happen here on this planet make me ashamed to be an earthling. We are all just victims of our conditioning, but I agree, we need to at least try to get along.

Andrew's post (60,303)
by Musti from UK
| |
|
|
I think Andrew raises some very valid points. The black culture issue might be right to some extent. Sampling and featuring Cam'ron on Boy (I Need You) so soon after the original wasn't the smartest move but it did cement her deeper in the hip hop culture, which is what she wanted. It wasn't original at all but she really wanted that street credibility. That's when the nickname Hoodriah started circulating. Anyone remember the single cover and the Street Remix? I love the Street Remix by the way. I'd say since then she has simply been doing what she likes, no desperation whatsoever. She is far from her Charmbracelet days when she had just done Glitter and she needed shelter from a community that was willing to embrace her, more than the white crowd at the time. She has been doing R&B since day 1, it's nothing new (let's not forget Prisoner please). I think she feels more comfortable with rappers in general as they all worship her. It's not like collaborating with female singers where there will always be that temptation to oversing and outdo her. Which is also why I think a duet with Beyonce would work so well because, like Mariah, she knows how to respect those that have come before her. Heartbreaker Remix is my favourite Mariah uptempo and the song wouldn't be the same without Da Brat and Missy's parts. Rappers do not downgrade her music. It's the quality of the music she's been producing that's the problem. Of course it's beautiful music, but it's also repetitive. She can do so much better. And she must, if she wants to remain relevant. I'd still eat up whatever she does though. And for God's sake Andrew, clearly vocabulary is not your issue so please be more selective with your words. You can sound so annoying sometimes that it's hard to take you seriously even when you have something valid to say.

That doesn't mean she has to sing with every rapper alive and the ones yet to be given birth to. The rap collaboration is putting a lot of people off. She tries too hard. It has been become redundant and repetitive. Let's be honest with ourselves. She needs to stop repeating herself and get on with it. People far less talented than her are catching up and she is still coming up with songs like Infinity?
