I think there's a difference too in live singing and studio recordings. Based on personal experiences, while recording I can hit better notes because there are only few people around. I feel more assured and can hit higher notes and better notes while recording. Singing live, there's so many hesitations because there are a lot watching so naturally you'll feel more hesitant. Mariah has said that she's more of a recording artist so maybe that's what she felt post-1996. From 1990 to 1996 she consistently surpasses her recording. After that she starts to have a lot of insecurities in her voice although it's still very much capable of doing what it used to do. I'm one of those who think her 1996 vocals can come back, she just needs to work very hard to polish her technique. I think that's why post-1996 she rarely surpass her studio recordings.

You ignore the truths of being a singer, yet ignore that with someone like Mariah who has a physically unique situation with her vocal cords. You are a bully and a troll, go ahead and protest. I remember when you once said you would leave if everyone wanted you to. There was a large number of upvotes to your post but yet you are still here. I'm glad I dont know you in real life. New Mariah Carey TV special to follow "ACM" (58,285)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End

|
|
Oh Santa. Get ready for Mariah Carey's Merriest Christmas. The Grammy-winning singer stars in a new holiday special, "Mariah Carey's Merriest Christmas", airing on the Hallmark Channel at 10 p.m. Saturday, Dececember 19, immediately following the premiere of her "A Christmas Melody" movie filmed here in October. Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, Emmy-winner Kelsey Grammer ("Frasier") and Billy Gardell ("Mike & Molly") will perform in the one-hour special. "A Christmas Melody" cast members Lacey Chabert, Brennan Elliott and Fina Strazza also will appear to share their "holiday memories and experiences from working with Mariah on-set during production of the movie", according to the Hallmark Channel release. Yay. After reading the whole article I'm beyond excited. It's like a full partnership with legs and tentacles for years and years to come with Hallmark. I could literally cry you guys. MiMi's been so good to us this year. These things make me that happy. Team Mariah better have or get a wirkdwide distribution deal secured with NBC Universal so us international Lambs can enjoy the festivities too. Are you guys so excited?

Re: Performance with Busta (58,275) (58,284)
by Andrew from UK

"Ok, first of all, Mariah seldom goes off-pitch." At least begin with honesty. "Pitch is one of the most basic things every decent singer will always master, it's basically the easiest thing to keep in singing." Source material? If that's true, then it's worrying. "Throughout her career, she has demonstrated sharp pitch accuracy and only goes off pitch 1% of the time." Please reference the statistical analysis. "What you hear post-1997 from her in bad performances are overly chesty mix resulting into tension, scratchy, unprepared vocals and cracks. Even in her bad performances she still kept her pitch pretty accurate. Second, in studio, she can record multiple takes and piece the best chunks of each takes into the rough mix." No, she does not. See, many Vegas recordings. MC's songs did actually used to sound sung through (Whitney's did, also) - last time I can recall is Honey (So So Def). Many songs sound so cut and paste it's impossible to even imagine to yourself they were sung through - if I mention HATE U I'm sure you know the part I'm talking about - it sounds so bizarre. "Recorded songs are meant to be as good as possible because it's what you present to the public, the material you're promoting. It's what getting into the radios, etc. You won't just record a song in one take and let the bad pieces in it." The final versions in the past few albums are cut-and-paste and don't flow, IMO. Regardless, the vocal stylings aren't reproduced on stage. But, wait: "On stage you will ultimately do some flaws because we're humans and you know, notes don't go back into our throats after we sing it. Don't even try to imply that her voice is doctored so much in the studio it became the flawless voice we heard. She probably uses Autotune to define her runs (mostly not for pitch) and correct out some slightly flat and slightly sharp belts. It's not even that much Autotune." The fact that Mariah hits notes and does runs etc. so flawlessly on recent records but can't produce anything like them live? Ever? That's what Randy was talking about mostly, I think, and the reason for my message back. I won't imply anything, such is your disapproval. "Her voice isn't even that scratchy anymore, as long as she warms up properly, her voice will be smooth like silk. It's incorrect to say that Mariah post-1997 is pitchy because the woman probably went off-pitch less than 25 times in her 25 years in the music industry." Factamundo [censored] stuff for people who don't reside in Dreamville. I can dream, but reality feeds and clothes my body. Don't often respond to people but, come on? Opinion is opinion. Reality is reality. Thanks for the reply.

Come on Andrew, even you know you are wrong to compare live vocals of any artist with studio versions. I will agree with you if you say her vocals are not the same as what it was in early 90s, but even then she is one of the best singers in the world and that's not just according to lambs. Of course her studio vocals will be near perfect, because it is recorded in a controlled environment. She can take breaks in between, she can take her warm tea and throat candies and anything that helps her voice while she is at the studio. Heck the temperature is probably set to give her the best for her throat. Yes some parts are probably fixed but those may almost be negligible compared to what the current hot artists do. The studio version has to be the best version because no one is stupid to send half assed vocals/production on an album or radio. No one expects a studio version and live version to be the same. When she is on stage she is bound to make mistakes, she is not perfect, she never claimed to be.

Is the voice. She's the one to beat (if you can). Even on her worst day, she's still better than all current so called singers today put together, with their one dimensional sound, songs and music. Even if she decides to never sing another note again, she is still the one. It wasn't Whitney Houston, it's definitely not Beyonce, Rihanna, Aretha, Patti Labelle, Brandy (vocal bible my foot), Celine nor Christina or any other singer male or female I haven't mentioned. It is and will always be Mariah Carey. #1 To Infinity. Let that sink in.

You're right about the pitch thing. I should have used something else to describe her issue. But I will disagree with you with studio versus live. When she first started singing she sounded the same if not better than the studio versions of songs. Listen to "If it's over" and tell me she sounds that much different in live performances. Yet look at the DFAU and the "live version" on the AMAs. Besides when she lipped the high voice belts the versus were awful. That, to me, is her worst live performance. Something "magical" is happening in the studio and it's more than her recording her best takes.

Ok, first of all, Mariah seldom goes off-pitch. This isn't some "Mariah's singing is always perfect" bull, this is a fact. Even in her Rockefeller 2014 fiasco, she hit the correct notes, it's just that her voice is very scratchy and cracks all over in that performance. Pitch is one of the most basic things every decent singer will always master, it's basically the easiest thing to keep in singing. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated sharp pitch accuracy and only goes off pitch 1% of the time. Randy, I think it's been a very long time since almost anyone considered MC the "best" singer in the world. Apart from that, you're completely right. The performance wasn't "bad", per se. But I'm pretty sure if she recorded a version of it later on that evening in a studio, she'd all of a sudden be completely flawless, no pitch issues, no cracking, effortlessly reaching notes she was struggling with on stage. How do you suppose that happens?

I'm sorry but if Mariah going to the hospital was so severe being on the "drip" and all, then she should've cancelled all appearances. The situation was so weird to me, it was like she went to the spa for a visit to replenish herself. First of all I'm glad she's feeling better because when I read "hospitalized" my mind raced, "Oh no, not again." The reports with her people commenting made it seem like they needed to make sure Mariah the moneymaker didn't stop. Now, I'm glad Mariah is making bank on simply being Mariah Carey but she can certainly afford to not take on these gigs. No one goes to the hospital for a simple flu unless it's some celebrity trend I'm not aware of. All I'm saying is can we let the woman rest when she's sick? She's a human being, not a robot, remember? It's now the eve of the Beacon show, she has no excuse but to sound spectacular. The flu excuse is now null and avoid, because if you were that sick you should've stayed your ass in bed. And it's going to be a week since the flu, most people are healed and well unless celebrities take longer that I'm also not aware of. I kid. But what ticks me off is after trooping through her 300k-an-hour appearance and breaking down in the hospital, she doesn't rest but shows up for some rich white lady CEO, and then support her friend for a flyer she wasn't even on. I just hope the lambs don't have to suffer, you know, the ones who support and stood by her all these years. Priorities man. But of course, I'm probably just being Wendy and these are all in my mind when in actuality she's in great shape and ready to go. Sleigh on Mariah, sleigh on. She better slay.

Hot for the Holidays (58,268)
by darrian liu from taiwan

I thought her performance was pretty good. Nicely done whisper voice (although she did crack once while singing the chorus, it's however obvious that she's been warming up properly as her head voice sounds smoother and less airy). Her chest voice is nicely supported and her runs were mostly on point. No pitch issues (lol Mariah seldom goes out of pitch) and there's little roughness in her belts. She's showing improvements consistently and her tone is actually getting smoother, healthier and less dry. It is not her best, but then it's far from being her worst. I don't expect her to come out with a mindblowing vocal performance with this song because it's a song that has a simpler vocal arrangement and obviously doesn't call for Mariah hitting perfect high belts or crazy agile runs. I do think she's a bit too still on stage and she should've added more movements but her vocals are actually good.

Re: Vegas tickets (58,247) (58,267)

A lot of people buy tickets the day of. It was like that when I went to Vegas over the Summer. I went the day of the concert a couple of hours before the show to buy tickets. I begged the lady for the best seats possible and advised how big of a fan I was. After the attendant worked her magic, she got me really good tickets. When I returned for the show, the line to buy tickets was long and the line to get into the venue was even longer. People buy the tickets the day of. When I went into the venue, every seat was filled. They even had attendants that walked everyone to their seat and when a guy tried to sneak and take the seat next to me, an attendant brought the person who actually paid for the seat and walked the guy to their actual seat. I wouldn't worry. If they didn't think she would fill the seats, they would have never gave her a third run in February.
