Deborah Cooper to the Daily Mail: "If it wasn't for Mariah Carey I'd be dead" (55,304)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
Such a poignant story and like most of Mariah's good deeds completely unreported (until now). Which is part of the reason I love her so much. I hate a braggadocios Scrooge. But really, what Mariah directly did for Deborah Cooper I know she has done for me also. She's helped save my life too without knowing it through her music, lyrics and the way she's used her platform to spread optimism. One day I'm going to personally thank her.

Nick and the twins (55,302)
by Licia from USA
| |
I know that story is halfway false because why would Mariah be handing him divorce papers? They are already divorced or almost done. Anyway if the part about her taking the kids is true (notice I said if) then he has every right to not want his children to go and he should fight for them and try to reassess whatever agreement they made as far as custody (I'm not even touching the drunk claims). Even though I praised her for at least sending him a father's day tweet, I'm a little salty that she took the twins away for his day. I found it funny that no one else found that to be shady, but had Nick taken the twins on vacation on her day then everybody would want to burn him at the stake.

Lol I love what she said here. So very Mariah yet pretty profound. Asked who will be the "next Mariah", she said: "Everybody should be their own person. The music industry today is a very difficult place to have a long lasting career. Especially if you are trying to be a carbon copy of someone else. The best advice I can give is to work as hard as you can, try not to alienate people, and love what you do."

Bette Midler / Mariah's stage presence (55,298)
by Martyn from England, UK
| |
I went to see Bette Midler live last night and have woken up today still in awe at her performance. She was absolutely incredible - so engaging, energetic and full of life. It made me sad that Mariah no longer seems to care about putting on a show. In fairness, they're two very different types of artist (Mariah's voice obviously runs circles around Bette's), but it made me yearn for Mariah of yesteryear when she used to move around the stage and fully connect with the audience. People are so quick to blame age, but Bette is almost 70 and I felt like I was watching a 20 year old. She was relevant and current but without seeming try-hard or age-inappropriate. I love Mariah more than life itself, but I think she would gain a lot from watching Bette's show. I know she has it in her, I just think she's become disconnected. She needs to reconnect.

Packeriah / Rainbow (55,297)
by NHYTG from nyc
| |
I must say I like the recent Packeriah stories and rumors, at least the silly stories about Mariah being a desperate drunk and drugaddict since her divorce are gone. I think she has got her sweet revenge by being able to show the world she's an attractive happy woman who is wanted by a very rich guy. And about Rainbow, I also play this gem a lot lately. The Daydream, Butterfly and Rainbow era is by far my favorite Mariah era anyway, I also think these albums are so much more personal than the first three studioalbums. Too bad that after 1999 she hasn't been able to maintain this level, imo TEOM and MIAMTEC have been the only really great albums in the Virgin and Island/DefJam era, the rest is just average to me, nice albums but not great.

Packeriah rumors (55,296)
by Lee TS from USA
| |
Him buying all the tickets to her shows is the most dumb rumors yet. It doesn't even make sense. Yes the gig is lucrative for her but I'm pretty sure she wants to perform and be among her fans. She's an artist not some kept woman. If Mariah does actually go along with that just to be with him, I would be so disappointed and call her every name in the book. But then again, look what happened when Nick came along and she dropped the ball on E=MC2. So like it was Buckle and M's 18th anniversary yesterday. How awesome is, ok I hope I don't get censored because it's more a term of endearment, that his hag is an actual diva. The little clip Buckle posted was so adorable and cute, screams diva in the most over the top yet hilarious way. I love their friendship and I bet he has all the tea with honey and sweethearts sprinkled on top.

Mariah's Heartbreaker post / Rainbow (55,295)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
What's up with her posting a lyric from Heartbreaker? Is it personal or just her being nostalgic? That being said, that lollipop pic got me nostalgic of the Rainbow album and its era. Listened to it in its entirety after quite some time and I was reminded again of just how underrated it is. Sure, it's tough to follow Daydream and Butterfly, but this was the best Mariah could muster under the strained circumstances at the time - and the fact that it's her most rushed album to date doesn't really hurt its quality and overall appeal. It's a great testament to Mariah's work ethic and her refusal to compromise quality even when everything seems to be working against her. Plus, the album is very aptly named. I love the cover (though Mariah seems a bit too tan, but it suits her) and I've read that it's Mariah's favorite. It really is quite colorful sonically, you could almost hear all shades of the spectrum in the music, if that makes sense. Plus, it gave us Bianca, that feisty alter-ego we all are still waiting for to make a proper comeback. Heartbreaker and its remix, CTTA, After Tonight, Bliss, Crybaby, Petals, TGIFY, are all killer. Sure, there's more filler than usual, but it is still a great album where urban Mariah came into being. Collectively, it's the inspiring sound and story of a strong woman's unwavering optimism.

After July is dead and gone (55,294)
by Lee TS from USA
| |
Mariah will probably be working on other projects like the Christmas movie and Beacon shows. Or take an extended vacation down under among the kangaroos. Thing is, I'm already thinking about Christmas and Rockefeller. Do you guys think she will be invited this year to sing? And if she does, do you think she should do it to maybe redeem herself? I think it would be funny yet very shady if NBC asks Ariana to headline the tree lighting singing AIWFCIY. Also, I want to see M's face when she watches Zoolander 2 haha. Anyway, I hope Mariah can keep up with Dembabies math homework. I'm sure she's helpful since they don't pass double digits yet lol.

I totally agree. I love how she is revisiting her earliest hits with a new found appreciation even though her time at Sony was tough. I'm sure LTT and IDWC mean something more since her marriage fell apart.

2015 Fan army face-off (55,291)
by Malcolm from Asia
| |
Lambs, our girl wins the first round of the competition, and the current round, Chris Brown is her competitor. They are having a stiff competition but Chris Brown is leading. I think this is the time that we, the lambs, must join forces to vote for Mariah because if she win this, it will truly benefit her image here and will amaze the other fan-base that until now many lambs are supporting her. If she will continue to the next round, she will compete Beyonce and it will be very hard but at least it will shows that she have a strong fan-base. But I will not deny that it will be nice if she beat Beyonce because that will say something and become an achievement for all of us. Again, we must join forces on this, it will be meaningful if she will continue at least on the next 2 rounds.

So sad (55,290)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
If rumors are true it seems like Mariah is not recording a new album after Vegas if she even get through it. It's sad she deserves happiness but I think she needs to finish Vegas, period. I honestly think Mariah needs to record a new pop album soon, ageism is real. Unless she's planning to record standards and jazz then I get it, but I'm sure she's not.

Live vs studio (55,287)
by Luke from United Kingdom
| |
No problem, Andrew. It goes well in the song, I've always been amazed at how she does that. I think it goes well with the cheerful vibe of Fantasy. There is a part in We Belong Together live where she sings the part "when times get rough" but she sings the "rough" part with a sort of run. She does it in the BET performance. It's subtle but I always fell that it gave it more emotion.

"Love Takes Time" Vegas (55,286)
by Billy from Greece
| |
I love the way she sings the bridge of LTT in Vegas. But the phrase I love the most (after the climax) is "couldn't see that I, that I was so (damn) blind". Just listen how she elongates the "i" sound in "blind". It gives the song so much more pain, and adding that "damn" occasionally just transforms the song from a teenage heartbreak to a plea of a person who has lived, loved and lost. It is such little details that to me separate Mariah from mere good singers.

Vegas, Angel interlude (55,284)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
I just got back from Vegas. I saw Mariah on Sunday. I was super excited as my sister and I sat on the orchestra section. That's the closest I've been and even though it was row MM I swear she looked at during the concert. She passed real close when singing ABMB and I took a video, but she didn't look our way. I stood there quiet as I got star struck. I know you're not supposed to take videos though. Speaking of preludes and interludes, I haven't seen anyone mention the meaning of all the high notes on Angel prelude. I think all those high notes is an angel or angels crying. I always repeat the Angel interlude as it sounds ethereal and magical.

Like and the live vs original (55,283)
by Andrew from UK
| |
Luke, I can't swear here but you are a gucking fenius. That's exactly it. I can't believe you got that from that description. I always remember her live inflections. I love singing them over the originals. Turns out I can't pin point them like you. "On and on and oh-oh-on." Should've been on the original. See this is why fan meets should happen. Enough with banging on about the instrumentals without the vocals or crap songs. You made my day. Better topic: live vocal melodies that should have been put down on the tracks. For instance: the final 'they can try, but they can't take that away from..." live on Oprah. The rest of it was awful, but that melody was wicked.
