I agree with the person who suggested Mariah getting a new look. I was thinking maybe a shorter cut with a different hair color. Brunette, a blonder blonde, orange or redish color. Something different. Mariah looked fresh and amazing in the behind the scenes footage of the "Beautiful" video. She can do it again. Same with her music. She needs a new sound and new producers. Give JD and Jim Wright a break and work with some new people. A pop or ballad type song for a single with definitely top the charts. In the meantime, I'm still enjoying "MIAM". Love takes time to heal, that's expected. She will get over him, though. You said you were 19, maybe you haven't experienced yet. To me she is one of the most beautiful women who has ever lived and she looks perfect the way she already is. I've had a girl crush on her since I was 10 years old and what most attracts me to her is her beautiful spirit. If it is true that she wants a bigger booty, more power to her. With her money she can afford the best plastic surgeon, who will make her bigger booty look tasteful and realistic. Not like a caricature, I think this is what you mean when you say "thot". I just checked Media Base and "Four Five Seconds" is number 10 on the Top 40 chart. It currently has 8,165 spins with 51.66 million audience impressions. To put that in perspective, number 9 is Maroon Five "Sugar" with almost 65 million audience impressions. That's a big gap and new ads for the Rhianna/Kanye song are building slow. Taylor Swift has two songs in the top 5, both with over 80 million audience impressions and Mark Ronson with Bruno Mars is number 1 with over 120 million audience impressions. Mark and Bruno will be number 1 on the Hot 100 for a while, in my opinion, keeping Rhianna and Kanye in the top 5. If, and that's a big if, "Four Five Seconds" gains more ground in the next week, it may peak at number 3. But again, it looks as if the song is already starting its way on the decline. The most certifications Rihanna has received for an album is 2 platinum (2 million). Mariah got certified for 6 platinum for TEOM around Rihanna came out. She got the diamond certification (10 million) for Music Box. I totally understand, digital records are what's happening now. I feel, tangible albums made it more real though. When you hold an album, read the credits and admire the singer's cover, it's more real. There was a time when 10 million people would go buy Mariah's album. That's 10 million album covers all over the country. Wow. With digital albums, you can stay home and buy it on iTunes. It's convenient but I miss the ceremony I had when buying an album "on Tuesday". I would listen to the whole album in its original sequence, following along with the lyric sheet. I would rewind to hear the supersonic high notes, melismas, her long notes, or her laugh. I think if another artist, especially one who looks up to and appreciates Mariah, exceeds her Billboard record, we should congratulate them and accept it with good grace. Mariah has reigned in that category for a long time, and has been the top female artist in that area for years. Mariah paved the way in many, many areas. She pretty much single-handedly popularised the use of melisma as a contemporary singing style, she was the first to popularise the rapper du jour remixes, she brought back artists recording Christmas records, she had a string of #1's from the debut to only a few years ago. Mariah's chart toppers have records of their own that are unlikely to be beaten. Her debuting at #1 with Fantasy, the long stretches One Sweet Day and We Belong Together spent at the top etc. And let us not forget that 17 of those 18 #1's were written by Mariah, a feat which will take a long, long time to beat. Even Elvis fans cannot contest that, as he never wrote his material. I think if her record is surpassed, it will only highlight just how incredible and ground breaking Mariah's career and achievements have been. I don't think it's the end of the road for MC. She will rebound. Maybe not tomorrow but soon. I remember myself during heartbreaks. I remember the last time, I've been listening all the time to HATEU and it worked out but very slowly. So I don't blame her for all that performances. It's hard to go back to normal life. But it's good time for a change. And she will change, there is no other choice. The problem is that some people are more used to the image created by Tommy. She is not that person and she's been trying to prove that ever since Butterfly came out. She's talking about "abuse". I understand why. Tommy was always monitoring her work during their marriage. If you read any of her recollections or his book about most of the singles he was rarely satisfied by the initial results of her studio works. That's why Walter had his final touch on Dreamlover, or she didn't like to sing Hero herself, or to record her Christmas album at that time. I was listening to MIAM all day. She had strong reasons to sabotage such a good album. I cannot call it anything else but sabotage. Maybe she was just buying herself out of IDJ/Universal contract, it was the last album, right? All promotion stopped after her shoulder dislocation. And she was talking all the time about "full body of work". So she was not interested in promotion. Something happened in the record company and we'll know one day. To me it's all a big disappointment, not due to low sales or charts, but because there was no recognition. I can't stop listening to Camouflage, it's classical Mariah, and sounds like it's from Butterfly album. The only song I don't like is YM, I don't understand why it was chosen as a single. Darryle, Rihanna has 13 #1's, not 10. She's getting closer to breaking Mariah's record, but records are meant to be broken. Rihanna doesn't have to release new albums to get #1's, just by doing some of her usual collaborations, specifically with Eminem, whom she has collaborated with three times already, she'll keep on scoring #1's. The thing is that a #1 these days doesn't equate to a #1 back in the 90's or early 2000's. A single was usually over two dollars and the maxi singles were even more expensive. A regular single from the 90 is equivalent to two or three digital songs or even more if we're talking about the maxi singles. Rihanna will have her run like Mariah, but she won't ever be remembered or put in the same league as Mariah, Whitney, Celine, and Madonna. Rihanna is an artist of the moment, and her star power is starting to deflate already, but she's still young. Mariah will always hold the record for the most album sold for a long time, Rihanna is not the one who'll snatch that away away from her. I wish Rihanna success, she always has the best things to say about Mariah, unlike Katy Perry. You are mistaken. Rihanna has 13 numbers 1s not 10 and she is only 5 number 1s away from Mariah. This is exactly what I was scared of. Someone a few posts down said something like they are not worried about this song going to number 1 because it's not a nice song. But that's a mistake, this song blew everyone's mind because of the unorthodox collaboration and the new kind of sound they experimented with. I strongly feel that Mariah needs a new look. Maybe color her hair dark again or at least cut it short(er). She needs to renew her style. She feels unreachable as an artist when she is always having gowns and bling on the stage. I don't mean she stops completely but maybe try new things and be a bit risk(y). Tone down the sex and show mature, self-confidence and fierce. Rihanna's new song FourFiveSeconds just went to number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. I'm starting to get worried. She already has 10 number 1s. She's not to far off from breaking Mariah's record. I know Rihanna isn't a better artist than Mariah but breaking Mariah's record will definitely boost her star power. I hope that since Mariah's releasing a #1s album and doing a #1s Vegas residency that she'll bring in another #1 this year. No worries, I totally understand wanting more of Mariah all day every day and getting regular reassurances that she's fine. So I know it comes from a of place. But we can't expect her to be "on" 100% of the time. Mariah's a perfectionist, not perfect. And like you I also want her to produce a documentary film about her creative process as an artist, as per my MC 2015 wish list. Hopefully Vegas will be the backdrop to many of the things we all woulld love to see her do as she continues to grow as an artist. Good things come to those who wait.
