Shorter set list as the tour progresses (47,514)
by Gerard Tam from Singapore

Is it me or is the current The Elusive Chanteuse show setlist getting shorter as the tour progresses from 1 country to another?

Critical lambs (47,512)

I don't know what the fuss is about. if you love Mariah, this is the time you should be garning for her most as it is the memento she needs us most. I think the Elusive was written whilst she was going through a difficult time, It's A Wrap with Mary J says it all. I think she told Mary J about Nick. I love it.

Pissed (47,511)

I am upset that her team released this video on Facebook of her doing whistle notes. No one doubted that MC could still do whistle notes. In fact, that's the one note I am pretty sure she can hit live, even if the rest of the performance is a backing track and she's lip syncing. Early in her career, MC said she didn't want the whistle register to become a gimmick. Now it's used constantly. A whistle register does not a singer make. If that was the case, then Chante Moore would have 18 #1s. A friend of mine told me in the late 90s when things began to go wrong MC would be nothing without the whistle register. Now what do I say to this friend? I love MC. God knows I do. But when will it stop with the smoke and mirrors? When will she address what's going on with her full voice? For someone nicknamed "The Voice",' I'm not seeing a single performance worthy of that title. Even when most lambs are "moved" by a recent performance, I see it as marginal, capable of being copied by any singer, of course, except the whistle notes.

MC should sing new songs in concerts, not old songs (47,510)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|
|
New songs as in (1) songs on her current album, (2) songs that she can actually sing. She can't sing songs from the 90s anymore. It's a different time, different vocal abilities. I would rather hear her sing songs she can sing, than lip old "hits". During the concerts, people seem to dig her new songs too. And the reason is because they know it's live. It's like as soon as WTB plays, you know full well the belt is going to be lipped. Besides, why should she sing oldies? I just makes her look old has-been. Look at Madonna. You won't see her sing old popular hits unless it's completely re-done, re-mixed. That's why her concerts are always full-house. I just couldn't stand her butcher her own songs. She can sing her new songs because they're recorded recently to fit her voice. She simply can't sing Vision Of Love anymore and give it justice. You'll just get either sub-part, lipped, semi-lipped, or heavily-backtracked.

Mariah just killed about fifty birds with one stone with this 30 second video. Voice critics? Check. "Real fans"? Check. Divorce rumors? Check. All the haters, she's looking right at you. I love her.

I feel so embarrassed. I got the lyrics all wrong. It's "You got the night to light up the sky". But anyways, that verse is everything.

Orkum / tour (47,506)
by 123 from USA

Orkum, great post. I also believe that she went back on tour to re-build her voice. Going on tour forces her to sing at least some of it and start creating some type of structure and normalcy to take care of herself and get some rest and create a routine. Here is hoping that as the tour continues, her voice improves.

Meteroite / Don't explain (47,504)
by Abraham from USA

I've really been feeling this song lately. I blasted it on my stereo at least 3 times. Along with some Earth, Wind and Fire. I think it's the "You got the light to light up the night" part that gets me. I'm gonna need Mariah to sing it live at one of her shows. I'm also feeling the "Don't explain" cover. I love it.

Songs that Mariah must include in the tour asap (47,502)
by Panos from Greece
| |
|
|
As the tour unveils and I see day by day that Mariah's voice reaches Charmbracelet standards, I just can't get past the fact that she doesn't sing [...]. I'm really curious why. [...] remix would be also be a great opener. These songs should be the core of the concert. She could make a medley of 15-20 more minutes and it would be perfect. She sings [...] now, so why can't she change the show a little bit? I would go to the concert even if she could only sing [...]. This song made me fan, it made me love her and appreciate her. Without it I feel the concert is lacking Mariah's vocal showcase and soul. Now it's the perfect time to change the usual playlist and surprise us with something elusive. Can someone sent her a letter or write a request in instagram please? I know you want it too . Am I wrong? The only song I don't expect her to sing again is [...] (Nick's favorite) and [...], because she hates them so much. I love them but who cares. She has a ton of other wonderful songs to perform. [...] is also my second most expected song to hear. It's a modern disco classic. When she released it, I couldn't believe that my wish for a disco song with a ballad intro, came true. This song would receive praise and shoot the album back in charts in Asia and Japan. They responded so well when it was released in May, even though it wasn't promoted. I wonder where is the video she was shooting? Where is that beautiful unreleased remix? Now that would be a surpsrise. She could sing it after [...]. Where are the new written songs? I don't wanna be negative but changes are needed. I am not an expert but I'm sure that some of these things could really work. The songs she lets out are the most popular among Asian fans and of course for the rest of her fanbase, even the general public. It's a shame to be so talented and not show it. To be honest the current playlist is a let down for me. But she is Mariah Carey. She can change the game and at the end of the day it's her show. Let's wait and see what she'll do in the next concerts. She can slay us right now that the voice is back. I believe it with all my heart. Come one Mariah do justice to the title of your show. Refresh your playlists. You can make it happen. Then Europe, South America and US would kill to see her again.

Better (47,501)
by Orkun from The Netherlands
| |
|
|
The Emotions video posted on here sounds much much better. Mainly live and stronger voice, better pitch. The whistles are lipped. The rest is live. I dont like the "hey, hey"s she does so often much but that's me. Now I understand that she has not been on vocal rest but that she just hasn't sung for a long time. Now she is training her voice again. So she should keep singing. From what I hear, seems like she got like 5 notes back which she struggled with before and seems more confident. Now we are finally getting somewhere, step by step, back to the top, where she obviously belongs. Less gimmicks, more natural talent.

Thank you so much for posting that. I just finished watching and it was beautiful. Even if this wasn't her best, it just shows that what the media made viral was uncalled for and unfair. This nearly two hours in China was a great concert. It was just amazing to see and hear the fans and their love for Mariah, especially the woman taking the video. She was screaming everytime Mariah made a high note or came back on stage and it was just incredible to feel that love. It's beautfiul to see how, at the end of the day, no matter what the press says or no matter what we fans argue about, Mariah is a legend who has touched the lives of millions in a way that no one else has. It must be incredible for her to know that people who don't even speak her language all over the world know her songs and her lyrics and her artistry. This is why we should love Mariah Carey. She is music.

You won't believe it, it's not only Kyla but almost all female singers (and some males) in the Philippines are Mariah-influenced. Lol, watch these two girls. 10:15 - favorite international singer Mariah 10:35 - she follows MC in tweeter but too shy to tweet her 10:40 - particular song that they are 'scared' to sing 15:12 - two girls saying that Mariah's "Emotions" is the most difficult song for them because of the high belting and whistles 15:44 - Jonalyn sings Emotions (chorus) no whistle though 19:58 - Jonalyn sings Through the rain 27:46 - Katrina sings never too far while jumping rope 28:44 - Jonalyn singing never too far while on a hoola hoop katrina can exactly copy Beyonce's runs but she can hardly copy Mariah's. Lol. Mariah's voice totally unique and cannot be duplicated.

Dresses / performances (47,495)
by Abraham from USA
| |

|
So now Mariah is being criticized for what she is wearing at her shows. Lol, who cares. Let her wear whatever she wants to wear. She can be casual. I happen to like some of dresses she's worn. Especially the blue one. She looked like a goddess. Aside from that, I have to say that her live singing seems to be improving. The "Without you" performance was very good. Hope she keeps it up.

Funny how (47,494)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Funny how the media chooses to feed on negativity that it preoccupies them too much to also report the good. Funny how a lot of the critics are most probably not singers themselves which makes them incapable of realizing and relating to how it feels to have an "off" day as a singer. Funny how a lot of people are quick to compare Mariah's vocal state to how "better" those of Celine's, Barbra's, Aretha's currently are, as if personal differences was a myth and there was a "one-size-fits-all" approach to taking care for and using one's voice. Funny how a lot of fans are too quick to write Mariah off just because of a flop album and inconsistent recent performances when they know damn well they're the reason an interlude called Languishing was written. Funny how staying positive or even neutral in this board has lately become synonymous with "delusional", and how conversely, being critically constructive is derided as being hateful. Funny how even with all this crap I've just mentioned, we all still come around here once in a while to celebrate this remarkable woman, even if it means having to tolerate each other. Love, love, love.

Much better. I am pleased. I can't say she sounds amazing. It's marginal for someone who is considered 'the best vocalist in the world' by many. But I'm glad to see whatever was going on the first night is not permanent.

I love how Mariah is (47,492)
by JAXGH from United States
| |
|
|
Remember Mariah missed out a lot on her late teens and all through out her 20s - her prime. Working since high school and getting married right away. Mariah never really got that "freedom" being a 21 year old, meeting people, finding real love, partying and having the typical life. She was working day and night. "Pretty much having no life" in her own words. She really didn't get to fully enjoy her prime as she was greatly oppressed and abused. The free-spirited, adventurous, sexy, bubbly, "do what I ever I want" Mariah was stifled, imprisoned and controlled by the Partriarch, Tommy Mottola. Deep inside she's still that little girl, Nothing changed. Scarred and insecure, forever longing for the life she missed out on. This is why Mariah's spirit will forever be truly young. So don't get confused when she says she's eternally 12, because she really is. She's still that teenager when she first came out writing about her first kiss and her first love, first heartbreak, which she still does until today. I love it. I love how the inner child truly stayed with her because wouldn't have songs like ABMYB, Underneath the Stars, Dedication, Slipping Away, Candy Bling, Last Kiss, Love Takes Time, countless. Everything really does for a reason, she's just really meant to bring back the nostalgia darling. Forever young and beautitul Mariah Carey.

Lee & ktktktkt - lamb singers (47,490)
by JAXGH from United States

Lee. Oh my goodness, that was honestly so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I love it so much. I looked him up and realized he's also in X-Factor, beautiful. His audition video made me cry. He's so talented. Ktktktkt. That was stellar. I love her so much. She should really sing with MC. I noticed she has no accent. I watched her Forever and Butterfly tribute and she honestly does it so good. It's stupid. And she did the ridiculously hard run (fly) at the climax of Butterfly where Mariah's back up singers take over and finish the run, but this girl did it all by herself. It's so ridiculous, I thought no one else in this world would be able to sing that part but this girl just poops at that part lmao. So amazing. If she was on American Idol Season 12, I think Mariah would cry every night.

Yes, she's a certified lamb, she's an rnb singer from my country (Philippines). When MC had her Charmbracelet tour in Manila (2003), she was in the audience jumping like a little child. Lol. Just sharing, I should've added it in my previous post. She really loves MC. I bet she's all over YouTube watching MC's take on her live Joy to the world at her prime.
