Separation confirmation (46,202) by enwar00 from usa
I read on Yahoo that Nick Cannon confirmed they've been separated since May, or something along those lines. I'm sorry to hear this, and am truly sad for them, because it makes me think of how happy Mariah was just 5-6 years ago after they were married. It's crazy how much you can care about someone you don't even personally know, yet do know in a lot of ways because she has shared so much of herself through her music.

Michele part 2 (46,201) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Oh sorry, I re-read your post. You are right men can be equally vulnerable. That's why I used the term "relatively". I do think compared to Mariah, it will be easier for Nick to move on. He's young, fairly rich and charming. Comparing to Nick with Robin Williams will be a mistake. Robin was in his 60s. He already passed the peak in his career and he probably had many reasons to be depressed over. He probably thought there isn't much left for him to live for. Which is sad. Yes, men can me very vulnerable. But I just think, and I stress on it that Mariah is "relatively" more vulnerable. She is gorgeous, she is filthy rich, but for some reason I feel she will be more miserable because this is her second marriage that failed and we all know she feels bad about her parents marriage not working out. I hope you get my point now.

You may be right, but that's just my opinion. The opinion comes from the fact that Mariah is very insecure about herself. I am not against Nick either. I really do wish them the best. I am a girl myself, I don't believe women are weak. However if it offends you, then I'm sorry. My main point is, I hope they reach a solution where they are both happy. Peace.

Mariah's legacy (46,199) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
I've been thinking and feeling this for a while now so I thought I'd share it with you guys to see what you think. There is a vulnerability to Mariah's voice and lyrics that is missing in either Whitney or The Beatles, there is so no dancing skill to dazzle the audience like Michael Jackson and no chameleon ability to transform like Madonna. But I feel Mariah is greater than the aforementioned and the greatest artist of all time and here's why. Mariah can say more with a line of a song or intonation of voice than some can in a career of albums. She can appear so in control yet so distant from her own music at the same time. She appears confident yet unsure of her talent in the same sentence. In my opinion, Mariah is the closest to a "real" person than any artist ever. This diva stuff, it is the way I can imagine someone who pretends they have talent to act. Mariah has talent. The overuse of the voice is someone constantly trying to prove they have an incredible voice. Mariah's voice is the best. The lyrics that cry out "I just want to be loved" are sincere. Mariah is so close to how most people feel about this crazy life, to how they truly feel, confused and trying to make sense of life, that they berate rather than embrace her. Many musical genius have been condemned as throwaway in their lifetime. I believe Mariah's legacy will prove her worth, so I suggest not to worry about the future. I suggest we fans show our love in the present whilst she is still alive.

"I do hope Mariah has a good support system around her right now because I believe she is going to be the more vulnerable one here, as she is after all a woman and she is much older." Wow, so women who are older are automatically more vulnerable? I believe men can be just as (even more so, just look at Robin Williams' suicide last week) vulnerable to separations as women, regardless of age. I think that since Nick has made himself look like a fool with a motor mouth over the past several months, while Mariah has remained mum, there's a good chance that Mariah has a very good supportive network to help her through this. More than likely, he'll be made out to be the bad guy.

Nick and Mariah (46,196) by Stacey from USA
I hope the rumors aren't true. If they do divorce, I hope it is on friendly terms. There are children involved. When you become a parent, it isn't about just you anymore. Another thing: There are two sides to every relationship. There are those who are going to automatically jump on the Mariah bandwagon and accuse Nick of causing the divorce. MC is just as much to blame. I've been married for 13 years. I know what I'm talking about. To begin a marriage it takes two people. To cause its end also takes those same two people. Makes me think MIAM is all about her relationship with Nick, especially songs like Thirsty, Faded, and Camoflauge. Anyway, I hope the best for them.

JC / We belong together live (46,195) by Abraham from USA
Mariah sang "WBT" live last year on "Good morning America". It was a concert. And in my opinion she did great. That is her best live performance of "WBT" ever. I was so proud of her.

JC (46,194) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
A recent completely live version would be the one she sang at Morocco. Because she changed it up a lot and her voice was flawed in it, but that made me love it even more. There were cracks here and there but it sounded so genuine, like she was feeling the song. I really like the ending she did in that version. I also liked the version she sang at Good Morning America, where she was wearing the sparkling powder pink/silver gown, right before singing #Beautiful. She changed up the song and especially the second verse and ending and I loved it. I like hearing changed versions live.

MC and NC (46,191) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
It's really sad to hear the rumors escalating. There might be some truth in it. For the sake of the kids I hope it's not true, but if they are not happy together, there is no use forcing in on a relationship. I honestly thought around the beginning that MC and Nick was a mistake because he was years younger and immature and they got married just few weeks after meeting. But I was more than happy to be proven wrong and to see them together, so happy and so in love, I really did feel that they were meant to be together. I thought MC deserved it after years of being miserable. Now, if they are separating, I hope they do so on friendly terms and things don't get nasty. I do hope Mariah has a good support system around her right now because I believe she is going to be the more vulnerable one here, as she is after all a woman and she is much older. Nick is young and might be able to move on relatively easily. I remember long time back Mariah said that she wouldn't want to marry someone who is in awe of or loves "Mariah Carey" because that's not who she is (meaning at home she isn't the over-the-top diva and superstar). She said the person you see on posters and magazine covers is not really her so she would not want to be with someone who thinks of her like that. But love is weird and she ended up marrying exactly someone she said she wouldn't marry because NC always says MC is his "dream girl". He had a crush on "Mariah Carey". I wouldn't point fingers at anyone, I won't blame either of them. Atleast Mariah experienced love and happiness for a while. She deserved it and she has two beautiful babies, something she might not have had if she didn't marry Nick at that time. She might not have experienced the joy of being a mother at all. And NC seemed to be in love too and he seemed to take good care of her. So I hope people don't turn this into a circus. I am already seeing headlines like "She is difficult to live with" or "He has been cheating on her" or "She has been fooling around with younger guys" or "Nick's big mouth got them divorced". We should let them be alone and sort things out and do what will make them both happy. Best wishes to them both.

Yes, this_is_qhm (46,190) by May from Denmark
I love Kylie. She is awesome and though her early stuff is very bubblegum pop, truth is that she has lots of really good songs and some amazing artsy and dark ones. I think the idea of an anti-tour for Mariah would be right on. She could even give the option for fans to vote from a list of unusual/B-side songs to make it to an official set list. Sometimes she surprises in her tour, makes tiny snippets, generally a capella of some very old songs or not ordinary ones but it would be so awesome to listen to a full concert consisting of just those she never either sang or sang just once.

Sad (46,188) by B from USA
Nick made Mariah happy and this makes me feel for her. I think it's true and I think it's why she didn't want to do any promo for the album. I think she's going to tour and reconnect with her fans and either release the album or release a new album next year, her twenty fifth in the business.

We Belong Together (46,187) by JC from UK
Does anyone else know where Mariah has sang WBT 100% live? The only performance I've thought she sang it atleast 95% live is when she sang it on BET Blueprint. The rest are prerecorded.

Is it a wrap? (46,186) by Shezz from Pk
Looks like the rumours and speculations are snowballing and might just be grounded in truth. Until it's not officially announced we can never know I suppose. Looks like Mary J's notorious intro in It's A Wrap was actually taken to heart by MC afterall. Though I was not ecstatic about Nick in the beginning I grew to appreciate Nick and was happy that she finally got her "perfect family" that she always wondered about. It would explain a lot about the past few months. Lets say a little prayer for MC and Nick and Roc and Roe and hope for the best for them.

Yes, I picked that because she performed that in Tokyo and that was the year I really fell in love with her and it was with the original song when I saw the Fantasy music video. So if she were to do that I'd be in Heaven because I'll reflect back to that day. I felt the set list I chose was a pretty good choice and it was hard to add/remove songs because there is so many. I wanted to showcase songs that have really beautiful lyrics and songs that were personal to her and of course songs we haven't heard. As a fan and seen a few of her concerts it's usually always the same songs so it would be such a treat for all of us to be able to hear songs live that she hasn't performed before.

It's over (46,184) by Ryan from Canada
TMZ is now reporting that Mariah and Nick separated in May and the divorce is happening. Aren't we all happy that we criticized and condemned Mariah for not caring about her work. This is so sad because they seemed so much in love until recently. I hope everything turns out great for the kids.

Re: Anti-Tour (46,183) by Michele from USA
Oh absolutely, I love this idea. Mariah should have a set-list that consists strictly of her B-sides, songs that weren't singles, songs that didn't make it to #1 (gosh, I would love to hear her sing "Butterfly" again), and so forth. I think she started to do this with the Angels Advocate Tour, as, if I can recall correctly, Mariah eliminated "Vision Of Love" from the set-list and changed it up what songs she sang from MOAIA. Great idea.
And awesome to see someone one else who remembers that Paula Abdul's "Forever Your Girl" had a very slow start. It was initially released in the summer of 1988, with "Knocked Out" as the lead single. It didn't go anywhere. It wasn't until a year and a half later that "Straight Up" went straight up to the top of the charts. So who knows... anything can happen.

Anti-Tour (46,182) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Don't know if there are any Kylie fans out here, but in 2012, she did this Anti-Tour. It's a tour with a setlist entirely consisting of her most obscure songs (b-sides, bonus tracks, outtakes, and oft overlooked non-single album tracks). The production was said to be minimal and more intimate, and it wasn't extensive or anything - she just did some venues in the UK and Australia, but it specifically catered to her most loyal and hardcore fans. Since a lot of Mariah's fans have grown tired of her resorting to her go-to setlist choices in her tours, and since she seems to have lost touch with a lot of her core supporters, wouldn't a similarly-themed tour be a good place for her start? Imagine songs like When I Feel It, Outside, Melt Away, Heat, Lullaby, Circles, Candy Bling, Slipping Away, Do You Think Of Me, Fourth Of July, etc. all being performed in one night - that's the dream right there.

What now? (46,177) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I do love that Mariah's making music entirely her way right now, and that she's doing it for the artistic aspect of it. But the reality is that the music industry will always be a business. At the end of the day, people are gonna have to get paid, which obviously won't happen if no one's buying her releases. Probably the biggest reason for MIAMTEC's commercial failure is this consistently half-assed collective effort to promote anything related to it. Really, the only single off it that was supported the most was #Beautiful, and those efforts were low key compared to what Mariah, her team, or her label would usually do for a normal single release, let alone a lead one. Everything else since then was treated as if she was just testing the waters. From a financial standpoint, it's a wise move. But to most of the public, it comes across as all sorts of confusing. If even the most dedicated fans can't tell what's going on, then imagine how much more clueless the regular music buyers will be. If they're still gonna continue promoting this masterpiece, to me it doesn't matter anymore what track they would choose to release, if at all. Just pick something and stick with it, promote the heck out of it until all options are exhausted. Right now, there's nothing left to lose. The upside to that is she has everything to gain. This may be a long shot, but if Paula Abdul was able to send her album and 4 of its songs to #1 over a year after its release, then who's to say it won't happen for Mimi? If it still fails, the worst has already happened anyway so at least she'd be able to say she did her best and not wonder "what if".

I wasn't expecting everyone to agree. Really I wasn't, like even anyone at all. I know she's not everyone's cup of tea and won't force her down anyone's throat. I also do get that this is a messageboard and understand the freedom it grants its posters, that's why I chose things that I wanted to comment on (not missed anything you said). I left out the NFY part because although I hear some similarities, I'm not in a position to judge if AINE was a complete rip-off of it, and that unless Mariah herself comes out and says it is, I tend to tread carefully when it comes to these copying issues because I wasn't happy when Mariah was accused of ripping other people off, so I don't wanna put anyone on the receiving end of that. I also didn't comment on Ariana or how she's being marketed as the "new Mimi" because I know eventually people are gonna tire of that schtick and expose it for the ridiculous plan it is. I'm gonna agree on your more recent point, though, that talent doesn't equate respect. Most importantly, it was rash of me to assume you were insinuating I had bad taste in music and I'm sorry for that. Peace.
