Mariah is looking great. She's lost weight and is getting her sexy figure back. And I like that hair style. She looks really happy and seems to be doing okay, I'm glad. I hope everything goes well with the tour. I'm really hoping she releases a new album next year.

I've never had someone write such a long and ridiculous response so I don't know whether to feel sorry that you have too much time in your hands or check to see if you are peeking through my windows. I love how you refute what I didn't say. You quoted me well but your reading comprehension needs work. I said "Mariah said Thirsty was not about Nick." I didn't say Faded wasn't about him. Re-read the sentence, because you could have saved some characters and met the 1500 character requirement. I never said I thought Camouflage was about her father, I said a lot of fans did. I wanted to post that here to see what other fans did. You then go back to Thirsty being about Nick and the two female writers intentions. I will refer you back to my first quote about what Mariah said. Mariah, you know, the artist that co-wrote the song. I'ma go with what she said. I though JD had said in an interview that he wanted Mariah to come out with the Wale record last year but she didn't. Wale did tweet he was on the track last year and insinuated that it was coming out. The Andy Warhol quote at the beginning of Meteorite says it all, if you can't recognize shade when its thrown by the queen of shade, I can't know even know what to say to you.

MCIIY is sublime (46,683)

I really needed to unwind and destress after work today, so it worked out perfectly that I had found and bought Merry Christmas II You a couple months back from a record store and still had it in the car. Needless to say it's doing the trick. I feel something extra magical in her voice on these songs that is both chill and tear inducing. I am moved and I don't care that it's still summer.

The lyrics to Thirsty, Camouflage, and Faded are clearly about Nick. Saying Camouflage is about Mariah's dad is insane. It's about the end of a relationship. She questions whether or not he ever loved her and if he still does. It doesn't matter if she wrote these songs this year or four years ago.

Mariah looking after Nick (46,681)
by Ken from USA
| |
|
|
I'm loving how much of mess Nick is looking at the moment vs how great MC looks. I still cannot believe how disrespectful he was to Mariah. She was by his side when he was in hospital, the fact that he would still say what he did about other women really shows how much he doesn't think about her. I do hope the marriage can be repaired though.

Jazz ballads (46,679)

I've noticed a lot of people saying they'd love to hear Mariah do a jazz album, and I completely agree. Her voice is perfect for jazz (The Wind, Christmas Time Is In The Air Again). Margaret Whiting did an incredible cover of "Time After Time", I'd love to hear Mariah sing this.

Butterfly (46,678)
by Darryle from USA

I was listening to Butterfly again recently and this album just has to be Mariah's best album. I know some people say Daydream because that's when her writing really became personal and the hip hop roots were shaping up to be what they are today. But Butterfly is when it was peaked her writing was it best and most personal and the hip hop was smooth and she didn't feel the need for so many rappers. This album is so cohesive and all the tracks mesh together so well. Her voice flows like honey on every track. It got some of Mariah's best songs like the infectious jam Honey, the uplifting Butterfly, the Latin lover track My All, the moody and dark The Roof, the smooth jazzy The 4th of July, the neglected yet relatable Breakdown, and of course my favorite and what I consider to be the best, the lyrically astounding vocally amazing life saving Outside. This album isn't something you listen to its something you feel. you don't have to think who did she write this about because the songs are so relatable that you can place yourself in every song.

Everything Fades Away (46,677)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
This song should have been on the standard edition of Music Box. It's a really beautiful song. This is one of the songs where Mariah lets the background singers play a major role in the song. They pretty much make this one. I love the part where the male background singers come in and they sing in a low pitch but Mariah sings in a higher pitch and their voices overlap. This and Sing Away have to be my favorite rare/unreleased songs by her.

The Elusive Chanteuse tour set list (46,676)
by T from USA
| |
|

To bump her sales from albums post Charmbracelet (which was the last time she toured many of these places), I would love this to be the set list. Just enough reminders of the old Mariah but many new songs that she has yet to perform in a tour setting: Intro: I dont want to cry 1. Cry 2. Faded 3. Dedicated 4. Bye Bye -change- 5. Side Effects 6. Obsessed 7. You Don't Know What To Do 8. Always Be My Baby -change- 9. It's Like That 10. Make It Look Good 11. Angels Cry 12. Touch My Body -change- 13. Never Too Far 14. Anytime You Need A Friend 15. #Beautiful (with Trey Lorenz) 16. Hero 17. (encore) We Belong Together Outro: Rainbow

Mariah lyrics with double meanings (46,675)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
I don't know if anyone has noticed Mariah writing certain lyrics with double meanings. For Example, Crybaby is the name of the song but for the lyrics she uses it as a verb "I still cry baby". In "More than friends", she sings "M-I-M-I okay". But you can also think of it as "Am I, Am I okay?" On the song "Dedicated" the rapper sings "Carry like Mariah" or it can be "Carey like Mariah". On "Meteorite", she sings Meteor-ite, ite, ite. But it can also be seen as she sang Meteor-ite, aight aight aight (the shortening of alright). I was just wondering if anyone else notices this.

My last request for MC's career (46,674)
by Gilles from Malta

I've loved MC for years now and I think there's one thing missing to her repertoire. She should make a symphonic live concert in the same vibe as MTV Unplugged and to record it as a DVD and a music record. It would be heavenly.

Thirsty (46,673)
by Gerald from USA by the way of NYC
| |
|
|
Thirsty written by M. Carey, C. Hollis, D. Andrews, M. Tatum (MC's background singer). I know with the problems going on with the Cannons personal life everyone's speculating about certain songs but honestly why can't we just enjoy the music and leave all the other stuff between Mariah and Nick. I am sure when Mariah wants us to know someone regarding her marriage and personal life she will let us know.

Ariana "Too Close" (46,670)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Out of curiosity I listened to that song after your post QHM. The only similarity is the line "I've been thinking about you", which is the same melodically as Mariah's song, though the rest of the track was completely unlike our old Music Box fave. It could have just been a melodic "nod" to another song out of respect, like Mariah did on WBT. I've avoided Ariana, like I do most new artists, so it was interesting to hear the "new Mariah" if you will. Maybe my hearing is wearing out in my old age, but I couldn't understand a single word that girl said. Her enunciation and diction is actually terrible. She delivers in a pleasant tone though, so I get why she has a lot of fans.

Petals (46,669)
by Philipp from Switzerland

I'm praying that she sings Petals live on tour. I'm so in love with this song because it's so personal, it tells her story and it's very sad. There's a clip of her singing the song during the Rainbow Tour, and she's crying almost the entire performance. That gets me every time.

Faded and You Don't Know What To Do (46,668)
by LC from USA
| |
|
|
Let me start off by saying that these two are two of my favorite songs on the album. They're incredible. Some fans were saying that Mariah could've written these songs about Nick. I don't think that's true simply because she wrote these in 2012/2013. If you don't remember, she first referenced lyrics from YDKWTD on the first episode of Idol, when she said to Nicki, "You love me more than you love sunny, summer days." As for Faded, which is the track most fans seem to think is the most about Nick, Mike Will Made It, the coproducer of the song shared a TBT pic of him and Mariah in the studio recording it and it is obvious that she did that after or before the episode of Idol when she premiered the #Beautiful video. She's wearing the same dress and has the same hair. So, it is possible that she didn't write these about him.

Mariah's catalogue (46,667)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
Although in recent years it was the death of specific artists that re-instigated public interest in them as personalities and in their body of work, I'm glad I'm appreciating Mariah in the present, for the abundance of music she has created and, subsequently, offered to the public. Reflecting on a very recent incident where a "fan" of Diana Ross ripped a picture of hers in front of her car when she did not sign it, I realize once more that even well-intentioned fans sometimes think that their favorite artists owe them something, be it the music they want to hear or attention. Aside from these issues, re-listening to "Charmbracelet" and "Memoirs" recently, along with the exquisite "Elusive Chanteuse", I'd like to say how much I admire Mariah as the artist she has chosen to become. Obviously, noone's perfect, and flaws are to be found. But, taking these albums as an instance, I find utterly admirable the way she re-invents the persona she has chosen to cultivate in public, which shows an insight that transcends the present moment. There is such richness in these albums that they can be approached like mini-"novels". Mariah has evolved from a girl with a fantastic voice to an artist whose spirit and creative imagination has infiltrated her work, resulting in thoroughly fulfilling musical experiences, that surpass anything middle-of-the-road, perfectly constructed/consumable out there.

I've Been Thinking About You / Too Close (46,663)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Just heard the bonus tracks exclusively available on the Target/Japanese editions of Ariana's latest album. I like the Cadillac Song, it's sickly sweet. But it's the other song that really caught my attention in a bad way. Does anyone know if her song Too Close samples Mariah's I've Been Thinking About You? If you still haven't heard it, I strongly suggest you to. I've been Googling the production credits it for a while now because its chorus sounds dangerously close to that of Mariah's track. Well for starters, they both start with the same line with the same melody. Plus, the third line in the chorus also shares the same melody with IBTAY, only with different lyrics. Is it possible they actually officially sampled the song? The similarities are more than just striking (even the recent Billboard article begging to stop comparing Mimi and Ari mentions it), it's pretty incriminating. Could this be the reason why it was issued as a bonus track - to prevent possible legal action?

Mariah jazz cover versions (46,662)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Mariah would rather compose her own material than cover other artists' songs, but in case she changes her mind and wants to do an album of remakes, I would really want it to be of standards/classics delivered in jazz. A wishlist of songs she'd cover would be: When I Fall In Love Lover Man It's Too Late My Cherie Amour The One You Love Cry Me A River Someone To Watch Over Me Stormy Weather The Look Of Love Be My Baby You've Changed I've Got A Crush On You Summertime Hopelessly Devoted To You Kissing A Fool Sunday Kind Of Love So Far Away Knocks Me Off My Feet One Day In Your Life Georgia On My Mind Love On A Two-Way Street Ooh Baby Baby I've Got You Under My Skin S'wonderful (They Long To Be) Close To You Feeling Good Try A Little Tenderness Something Stupid Over The Rainbow I'm sure there are a lot more that I've missed, but these are what I could think of right now. Any of these would just be heaven.

I know. She looks so good. And the one with the "did my own makeup" caption is even cuter because she acknowledges her eyeliner was messy and it actually is messy which shows she is a bit more relaxed about looking perfect. In addition to that, in the same pic, she is looking at the camera with a huge smile on her face and it is so adorable, like a child's smile.

The Elusive Chanteuse Show (46,660)
by Victor from Costa Rica

Hello everybody. I think Mariah should tour Latin America and Europe as well. I would love to hear Almost Home, Slipping Away, Music Box, Vanishing, Loverboy, Bringing On The Heartbreak, Blessed, Melt Away, Breakdown, Sweetheart, After Tonight, One & Only (Original or Part II), For The Record, Miss You, Endless Love, Circles, Ribbon, Make It Look Good, and Triumphan remix. The hits she always sings are ok, but I guess fans need to hear something new for the first time (at least live).

I love this idea of choosing part of the setlist. I loved when Brazilians had the chance to choose (they've chosen I Still Believe, remember?) and now it repeats. Well, about choises, here's my list: 1. Side effects 2. Anytime you need a friend (please, it's in my MC top 10) 3. Crybaby (well, I'm not in love with Crybaby or Babydoll in particular, actually) And next?

I agree Mimi L. She looks fabulous. Not the contrived fabulosity that we had been getting for the past 9 months, but this just looked effortless. I love it. And she said that she did her own makeup. Could down to earth Mariah be reemerging? My goodness, I hope so.
