Th First Noel / Born Is The King (46,497) by Mara from United States
Ok so taking a break from all this other talk, I have been listening to MCIIY the past few nights. Yes, MC is the only artist that always seems to make me want to listen to Christmas music anytime. The First Noel is so beautiful, from the first few lines in the intro which leads to such a relaxing mood to the absolutely hypnotic Born Is The King. She is so beyond the word talented. It kills me how underrated she really is as someone else said. And then there is Christmas Time Is In The Air Again, how many artists now can create a song that sounds like it came out of the Nat King Cole eras of music? It is so beautiful and classy, especially the live version she did at the Tree Lighting. She looked and sounded amazing that night. I still would love to hear Mariah venture in a bit more to jazz. She has such a great voice for it.

I Still Believe (46,496) by Mara from United States
One of my favorites as well. I like to say that I was a fan of Mariah's even before VOL since I used to hit record on my tape player every time Brenda K Starr's song came on the radio and sing over it with my "sound machine" lol then come to find it was our Mariah that was a backup singer on that song all along.

Fans appreciation party (46,495) by May from Denmark
So lucky Michele. Since how long hasn't Mariah done one of these? I remember reading in the past parties where she sometimes would invite "lucky winners" or open for the fans (with limited entrance). I think that if she presents a new album in the future she should definitely do a "mini debut" of it featuring some songs live in a special "only fans party" hours previous the release of it. What a better way than showing appreciation for the fans who have been with her since forever and at the same time celebrating the release. Mega cool. If I could only assist lol.

The passage (46,494) by May from Denmark
Deedre aka MiTodoChop, the media did blow it up in the way media does, but before Nick's dad deleted those quotes and other insults to Mariah fans (yes, he took the time to reply to some of them), the phrases were all there in the open, on public mode in his facebook for anyone to read and before the media jumped the fans were all over it asking him to take those horrible collection of quotes that he claims are from his book.

Lucky, lucky bastards (46,493) by nikki from usa
MC is on fire on her twitter account. She's letting the fans choose between AYNAF and My Saving Grace. Side Effects vs. Petals. She's asking for fan favorites of her catalog and of this current album. She better come to the States.
I don't see Nick and MC reuniting. Nick is now going out live on AGT without his wedding ring for 2 nights in a row now and MC added a tour date on Nick's birthday. I just hope those reports about him taking care of a mistress aren't true. If he fell in love with someone else than that would explain why they're not trying to fix anything. But, again, until someone makes an official statement we all got nothing.

Wait and see (46,492) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I've had a feeling this whole time and I'm not convinced a divorce is a "done deal" the way the media is reporting. A rough patch, time to work through some stuff, some transitioning, and re-evaluating yes. But, the media jumped all over the D word from the get go, and it just doesn't feel accurate. It just doesn't. I also feel the media did twist passages from Nick's dad's book, to fuel drama about a "messy divorce" in the celebrity gossip columns.

I Still Believe (46,491) by Michele from USA
Great reading the love for this song. I Still Believe will always hold a special place in my heart because it is the very first song of Mariah's that I heard live with me in the audience. It was her performance on The View back on November 17, 1998, and I was in the audience. Very awesome day, and afterwards I got to meet her at Virgin Megastore to get her autograph, and after waiting in line for five hours, all I could say to her when I got up to her was, "Hi, Mariah." And we both had this awkward pause for a second, and Mariah was like, "Hi.... how are you?" Too funny. After that, me and my friend got into her #1s Fans Appreciation Party, where Mariah came out on stage with a huge cake and balloons dropped. Awesome day. Anyway, I Still Believe takes me back to that time and it is an awesome remake.

Plot twist (46,490) by JAXGH from United States
Hey lambs, just saying I don't think they will get divorced. Just saying, what is their "strong union" for? Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. [...] love will conquer it all which is what they have. God plays a big role in their relationship. They might be going through some adversity but hey who doesn't? I believe they will make it. Mariah knows deep in her heart no guy will ever top Nick Cannon. Same for Nick. Mariah is his queen. At the end of they day, the babies and the love they made will bring them back together. And TMZ and all these tabloids will look like [...]. There's a reason why Mariah is not saying anything because all these rumors are making them stronger than ever. Don't believe everything you read. Nick might have slipped but God knows those kids are too special to not experience the love of a full unbroken family. As lambs we should try to ignore all these false rumors and focus on [...]. Start ignoring the negativity. and spread the love of their [...]. Wooohoo Nick and Mariah [...]. This ain't no fairy tale or fiction, This is truly, ours for the eternity. There will be no end to our love story.

I still believe (46,489) by Otti from Belgium
Nice to bring this up. I always loved this song, and the video. I think it's one of her best video clip ever. The concept, her style, her beauty. Although it's a cover, she owns it. She sings it like she did write it. It was a huge success in the USA, it went platinum. I was so glad that she gave the single a full treatment at that time. When the album #1's came out, and I heard the song between her older songs, I always thought that it was an old song of hers, from her first 3 albums, because I didn't knew those albums at that time. Until I saw the video on MTV. Number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, not bad for a cover. But I love the vocals, especially the fading part on the end, true emotions, like she sings it for someone special. Mariah Carey is still so underrated.

I still believe In MC (46,488) by May from Denmark
I love that song so much Abraham. I played it so many times along with Sweetheart in its days. I taped the video from MTV, the whole Marilyn Monroe look and theme looked so goon on her, I used to think "wow, she must be so sophisticated" hahaha, I was young and had huge admiration for her, it was the time where her gigs were big and she always had this sweetness around her face, dunno if it was the hairdo of the time or the simple clothes with some polished shoes, she used to look shy and I would play over and over again that high pitch laugh she used to have or do or whatever, it was so much fun. I love the "I still believe era". Uuuh now comes to my head teen vacation memories haha, thanks.

Yes Marissa, pinch of salt (46,487) by May from Denmark
I guess we all are informed with the latest, I mean, Mariah in the eye of the hurricane but sometimes it can't be helped, until Mariah comes out with an official statement people can simply opinate, obviously not taking for granted at all the gossip, it comes mostly from webzines and yellowish magazines. There is no denial that a lot is fueled from past things. I mean, at the end of the day, Nick Cannon did date Kim Katrashcan for like 2 years, and then he himself came out to say once that he thought Kim was a great chick and a smart business woman and then in 2012 he even added to his previous comments of how amazing is Kim that if it wasn't because she lied about the sex tape thing to him he would still be going out with her. He said that, while being married to Mariah already. So I guess the gossip sites can't do more than take old comments from Nick and add fuel to his recent comments about Kim. Slap hahaha, wow. So yes, you can't take anything that is being written as 100% true. But also MC has been photographed these last 4 days, in all those 4 days there is at least one pic of her showing her hand with butterfly ring next to her face, on purpose? I don't know really. It's all about waiting I guess. "Tiempo al tiempo" like hispanic people say.

Andrew (46,486) by May from Denmark
So after my "brief" (not so short lol woot I made it in just 1500 characters) comment about where it might have started all becoming more about "Mariah" as in... a more obvious way (with the titles and friends names, brand names she likes, etc.) this last album, was not really meant just about her, let's all recall that her album was going to have a different name that yes, if you know Mariah the title fit perfectly into this late puzzle but it was a title that anyone could have related to, that anyone would have embraced. In my opinion, she changed the album title not for the reasons given ("oh no, someone found out the album title and published it") but more because the situation in her life suddenly change and she was almost like making a statement with the title, the no promo, the nothingness that made the album that had huge prospects to sink. This album was going to be for everybody but it turned out yet into another personal project. Did people really needed time to invest in Mariah to understand Meteorite or #Beautiful? Clearly not. People loved #Beautiful, it was on the radio all day and were starting to truly accept Meteorite. Things simply died along the way. I believe in her future, there will be sells again, #Beautiful has shown that.

Mariah's music (46,485) by May from Denmark
While I can understand what you mean Andrew about the article in Time being poignant, there are a few things to take into consideration. Mariah started being slightly more personal in TEOM - and I'm still surprised she mentioned things such as "purple taking me higher"- but at the same time keeping the songs in a way that the general public would feel related to. Then came another one with an almost self titled album and this one was more for her own fun after the huge success of her previous one, and you can clearly see she fully enjoyed doing this one, it actually garnered her new young fans, I read from young ones as 14 years old say "I love Touch My Body and all the new stuff but I don't like much her old stuff, is boring," you can clearly see the big jump from the failed Glitter and the sweet revindication with Charmbracelet but then a total swift of the usual Mariah. E=MCsquare was danceable and fun with just some songs being cryptic. Memoirs was a music-bio of some aspects of her life, she clearly said was for the fans only so a lot of people might have felt like outsiders, still the promo was poor, the videos boring, UOMF video seemed like a Target commercial, the album had a couple of gems. Then it was supposed to be the big come back, which for different matters didn't happen, she filled it with her personal emotions once more but who can't feel related to some songs in the album. The album debuted 3rd she could have nailed it with this one it was worthy of success.

I would give the world away (46,484) by Andrew from UK
The Time article is poignant. And it probably goes to what realistic fans feel. We didn't buy everything and follow Mariah based upon the records, awards and titles. They were just a qualification of why our taste and ear was true and qualitative. The virtues which we extolled due to the amazing pop genius, truly resounding tone, vocal ability, lyrical genius and creativity, wonderful and humble personality had a defense in: "See. Look at the success. It's real. It's f'ing amazing, witness it. Feel it. Listen with me. Understand." Now every song, every album title, every nuance ("the fans will understand this line") is not sellable. People miss accessible music with an accessible persona and genuine talent. Mimi worked. Imperfect Angel? Fell into the "know-my-story" rubbish that people left behind. Elusive Chanteuse is beyond. The general public don't listen to Mariah Carey music anymore because, to listen to Mariah Carey music, you have to invest heavily in her story. You all debate her life, her divorce, her marriage, her kids as if it enlightens you as to her music. Great. But that's why she doesn't sell anymore. She is isolated and inaccessible. The Time article is really poignant. It's not selling out to give the people what they want. It's selling. People listen to good music without wondering what someone's pain is and "oh do we feel for them". It's not that I miss the records and awards. I miss it being... jaw-dropping and simple.

"A source said..." blah, blah, blah (46,483) by Marissa from USA
If there aren't official statements from either Mariah or Nick, the media can miss me with these stories. I wish these vague articles that constantly say "a source" were banned. I want facts or nothing.

It's all in the songs (46,482) by Todd from Melbourne, Australia
From the first listen of MIAMTEC, I knew that there was trouble in paradise. Unfortunately/fortunately (depending how you look at it), Mariah's songwriting gives us a direct insight into her world. I suspect it's incredibly difficult to write songs such as Camouflage if you're not actually going through what the song is about. The first time I heard The Art Of Letting Go, I thought "uh-oh". The feeling was confirmed the first time I listened to Faded, YDKWTD and Camouflage. The first time I heard the song "Thirsty", it was so obvious she was referencing her husband. I really hope that she channels whatever she's going through into her music, from great pain comes great art. Obviously though, I hope she is OK, her well-being is more important than her music.

Stop believing what you read (46,481) by Anonymous from
I'm sick and tired of these news articles that fills out what celebrities are thinking. I love how the titles are labeled this and that but no one has said anything. Nick is not around Mariah because he works all the time. Right now with America's Got Talent. He is there. So these articles about Mariah is not a wife but a mother is crazy.

I still believe (46,480) by Abraham from USA
Does anyone else love this song? I know Mariah didn't write it but it's one of my favorites. I love the music, lyrics and how her voice sounds. If I'm wrong, I think the song reached at number 4 on the Billboard. Too bad, if "I still believe" and "Beautiful" had made it to number 1 Mariah would have 20 number ones. But it's okay because I still believe.

Sad, yet happy (46,479) by Roesdien Abrahams from South Africa
I haven't posted on here since 1908. (Said in true MC fashion.) I have been listening to the album more often. Given everything that has transpired in MC's life it just makes the album the full body of work she has wanted it to be viewed as. If it were up to me I would not expect MC to release any statement. The album speaks for itself. Cry, faded, supernatural, OMT, ending off with Heavenly. Mariah basically told the whole world about the impending separation. Pure genius. The album is just so freaking good in every aspect. I look at the pics of Mariah right now in the press and she looks happy. Supernatural, personified with Dem Babies. Nick, I never had and never will have anything negative to say about him. I'm greatful for the impact he has had on MC. He has given her the greatest gift ever, Dem Babies. Nick looks good these days regardless of the negative press. He's a great father. I'm happy Mariah was able to move on and still be her. It's time we as fans focused on the human aspect of all this. Mariah the person, mother and then the superstar.

Nick (46,476) by B from USA
Nick used Mariah. It's sad but true. I can't believe he allowed his family to bad mouth the mother of his children. I think he said he's worried about her because they have a prenup and he knows he won't get a dime of her money unless he somehow gets custody of the kids. At least we now know why Mariah didn't promote the album. It was because she was dealing with this mess. I bet Nick cheated.

Eternal / why I love Mariahs songs (46,475) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Eternal, first of all, you're welcome. And brace yourself for some gushing coming your way in 3, 2, 1. Oh my gosh, you kinda just made my day. All of the songs you singled out are some of my favorite Mariah tracks ever. See, I'm more of a melody person when it comes to liking songs - the tune always comes first above all else. The background music comes second. And if the 2 really go well together, then that's just heaven for me. Overall texture comes third. I usually like my music lush. Lyrical content almost doesn't matter to me, though with Mariah, it's hard for me not to notice her ingenuity in that area. The reason why I love Mariah out of all artists is because she gets my sweet tooth for melodies more than anyone else (Janet, MJ, George Michael, and Amy do too, but slightly less consistent). Those songs you've mentioned, they all have that unexplainable melodic direction and feel that I'm looking for. To me most of Mimi's songs possess that undefinable quality, some more than the others. Her earlier material is great, but I like more of her post '94 stuff better, because I believe that's when Mariah the artist really shone bright, and to me her songs since then sound more natural, free and less contrived. If I'm not too fond of a Mariah song, it's most probably because it somehow lacks those charateristics I'm looking for. So since you love those songs, I'mma guess that you probably also appreciate There Goes My Heart and Make It Look Good and maybe even It's A Wrap?

Lullaby / The Roof (46,474) by Eternal from Italy
Thanks this_is_qhm for reminding me of Lullaby. I played it right after Underneath The Stars, Fourth Of July, Melt Away and The Roof and it really tells a complete love story. She even uses direct reference words like "cause I still melt away", "kissed under the sky", and "of that night on the roof" in Lullaby. I love it when she does a tribute-sequel of her own songs, like Dedicated on MIAMTEC, and includes lyrics from those songs ("the remix of a fantasy, I hear 'em singing back to me").
The thing that I have always loved about Mariah, besides her voice obviously, is her songwriting. She really has a song for every emotion, every moment of life and her lyrics are almost never banal. Who else would sing words like "suffered from alienation, carried the weight on my own" on her debut single?

Mariah and Nick (46,473) by Benjamin Fisher from United States
Mariah is keeping it so classy in the wake of her pending separation from Nick. While he and his people make remarks about her "emotional instability" and her parenting skills to the press, Mimi hasn't uttered a word save for some epic shade toward Nick on her album (see: "Thirsty"). I love how the separation has become all about Mariah being "needy", "demanding", and "overbearing" as if Nick has absolutely no culpability for the separation. Was Nick Cannon expecting a submissive doormat? Mimi does not play that doormat nonsense. Maybe Nick Cannon cannot handle an alpha female?

Carla / Mariah's silence (46,472) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I agree. If Mariah does defend herself for even just a bit at this critical period, it not only would come off as her being combative, it would also only fan the fire and worsen the situation. Plus, it sure doesn't help that at this very moment, there are millions of journalists worldwide on standby who are insatiably thirsty for the first slightly defensive comment from her just to sensationalize and spin into their own versions of "the truth".
