Emotions sample (45,167) by Martyn from England, UK

Has anybody heard this song? It came out this year and it samples Emotions. I love it when people sample Mariah. I was obsessed with that electro song that sampled "Prisoner" a few years ago. Amazing.

Re: Post 45,163 (45,166) by Liz Archer from Sweden
Wendy was maybe a little to harsh but she has a point. I personally am a fan of her music (always have been) but I am not always a fan of Mariah's style in appearances and interviews. Her "eternal 13" statements gives the wrong impression of her, that she is ashamed of her age. She does have older listeners now and I am not sure her image today would appeal to the younger either. Her Barbie doll appearance (with that I mean she is always wearing gowns etc) and her strange diva behavior (calling people "darling" and being over the top, being late to important appearances etc) gives a bad impression. I don't believe Mariah is like that in RL, and this different "persona" thing is weird. I have certainly taken notice and I am sure many others do, and this is probably the reason why her latest CD has not made such a huge impact (due to bad promotion for the music, no video or any big number of performance or interviews). I personally love her new songs, but the cover art again feels wrong. She, the artist, feels distant and not like she is a person. It's to similar to her previous covers, nothing new or interesting. You can clearly see it's an older picture. I just wish she would embrace her age and just be herself for the beautiful person she is. I am not saying this to be mean, I am just being honest and up front. I have loved her voice and music talents for a long time. I wish her to continue giving us fantastic music, I just hope she finds herself again.

Can't get enough (45,165) by supafly from
I still can't stop listening to MIAMTEC. This record is sophisticated beyond measure. MC knows what we want, and she delivers. I truly don't care anyone else agrees, this is perfection. *hits play on "Cry", ready for another cover to cover listen*

Wendy Williams (45,163) by Paul from Usa
Personally, I've never cared for Wendy Williams. I hate gossip. I hate rumors. I hate when people say things about people without checking to see if the sources are trustworthy and factual. Wendy Williams has a lot of nerve. I've always though age looks and sounds like a man, and come on the breasts are obviously enhanced. Hope her show burns out.

Thank you, Anthony (45,162) by Lee from USA
I agree with you. The media will always find a way to hate on her when she fails or succeeds. Did the author of the last article actually did any research or made it up? The author did not read any reviews of MIAM from Donatella Versace, Timbaland, and George Michael, or watched the TeeNick Top 10 Countdown.

Miss Carey, Mariah (45,161) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Well, this is turning out very interestingly. First of all, on this message board, many fans come out and say how they're tired of Mariah, her behaviour, her antics, her nonchalant attitude towards everything other than her hair, her persona, her phrases and some even expressing nothing but disdain towards her music over the past 17 years. Some even appear to become annoyed with other fans who don't feel all these negative things about Mariah. And now, not only her fans, but the media at large seems out to get her. The only thing I can say regarding these observations and what they are amounting to (which I feel is mass bullying) is this. Mariah, I love you and thank God for you and for you being who you are every day. You have changed and improved my life in so many indirect (and probably sometimes direct) ways that I can't imagine life without you in it. Just like you, I have a life and love and friends and hobbies, but unlike you I have you to look up to. So successful and so talented, so beautiful, so strong and yet so fragile, I admire you so greatly that you are able to withstand this constant attack coming from everywhere. I don't know if Mariah ever reads this board, but I just need to say, please don't change. People like me rely on you to keep the faith, and to really mean it when you say it's ok to be just you, yourself. You. You are Mariah. Me. I am Anthony. Thank you and please don't change. Ever.

Re: Mariah's purported "diva attitude" (45,159) by Benjamin Fisher from United States
I am really over this idea that Mariah needs to become more "likable" in order to garner more respect from the public and from critics. They never respected her even when she was a demure, shy neophyte and tried to please everyone. So I'm fine with Mariah being a little impatient, a little combative; otherwise people would walk all over her. The truth is that our Western culture does not like women who do things on their own terms. Mariah clearly gives nary a f*** about being well-liked, and I applaud that. She has worked herself to death to establish herself in this industry, and people still disrespect her and her artistry.
And, seriously, even if Mariah has any kind of attitude; it's definitely mild in comparison to what other people get away with. So let's please stop with the idea that Mariah changing her persona will somehow make her more likable. They will always find something to criticize about her.

Best album of 2014 (45,158) by B from USA
Me I Am Mariah is the best album of 2014. This album is deserving of the Best Contemporary R&B Album Grammy Award. #Beautiful deserved a nomination last year. Katy Perry is a poor man's Britney. Who cares what she thinks? Wendy needs to take her act to Vegas. Oh wait she has no talent. She makes up stories and spreads lies as facts.

Didn't MC have them record background vocals on a song for her "new album" last year? All that hype, and it doesn't make the cut? Or did I miss something?

Cry lyrics (45,156) by TR from USA
I'm not completely convinced she says "bless out soul" at that point in the song because it's kind of disconnected, like a throwaway afterthought. I actually think it could be read and interpreted likewise: "Imprudently, I left every cell in me so naked somewhere at the core of you" (without considering the consequences, I bared myself completely open and emotionally raw, and I never realized that I let you take control of that). So essentially I think she's basically saying that he still owns parts of her heart/soul than she can bring herself to admit.

I've gushed about MILG and Faded, so… (45,154) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
If there was a Mariah song that trumps all of her hip-hop collaborations possibly since the Fantasy remix, it's Dedicated. A fan has shared on Facebook her clear vision of what the video should look like should it ever be released (please): a party with Mariah and Nas reminiscing about the golden era of R&B and hip-hop, paying respect to those who have passed away (Tupac Shakur, ODB, Aaliyah, etc.) as other 90s R&B/hip-hop/urban acts make cameo appearances as party guests (Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Diddy, TLC, R. Kelly, Bone Thugs 'N' Harmony, Missy Elliott, Boyz II Men, Brandy, etc.). That would just be heaven (especially for 90s babies like me), and probably would be a hit on Vevo as well, with fans watching if only "just for the nostalgia". Please make it happen. So the song may not have the usual balls-out-I'm-effing-Mariah chorus that we've come to expect from her, but it still makes one hell of a groove. That perfectly chosen sample. Them synths melting into each other in the background. Nas. Mimi's appropriately restrained vocals. That relaxed summer vibe. That unexpected yet welcome Fantasy throwback. And although we all know (and hate) how Mariah loves a good bubbly, who'd ever think she'd take it to the studio and go as far as letting "the elusive drunk chanteuse" moment make the final mix of one of her songs? Rarely has she put out a track that doesn't take itself too seriously and is proudly so. Hip-hop has never been this classy. "Carry like Mariah" indeed.

To Martyn - UK fan meeting (45,153) by Colin Clarke from United Kingdom
I was looking at putting something together for the UK lambs and I had a meeting with a fellow lamb about it. Due to his personal and working commitments, he made the decision that he cannot give the time required at this time. I very much look forward to welcoming him to the fan event when it is arranged.
I believe we are connected on Facebook and I am very much up for holding a fan event and have no issues in putting something together if the UK lambs want it and are happy to support. Perhaps those that are interested would be happy to take the time and email me, colin.clarke77@gmail.com and declare their interest and I can take it from there. Let's do it UK lambs.

"Meteorite video with a 15 minutes of fame theme." Lol clever idea. A few months ago I posted that Katy is an MC hater. I always thought she's a bit of a hypocrite. She says she likes MC but shades in her interviews.

Katy Perry (45,151) by Martyn from England, UK
I very much doubt this story is true, but even if it is, I'm not particularly bothered. If somebody who could actually sing (or had an ounce of personality) mocked Mariah it may concern me, but I have more talent in my big toe, and therefore Katy's opinion on anything is automatically void. I spent an evening with her a few years ago, and she was one of the dullest people I have ever come across.

I don't know if this article is true. I mean, why is only one website reporting this and no other website is talking about this video. If it is true, then it is pointless to bash Mariah after five years of following her game plan somewhat poorly. If not, the article is not good enough to wrap fish in.

RibbonB / TR / theories (45,144) by Elena from The Netherlands
I did mean the past few years as in 3 or 4 years because I was pointing out that since the last album she settled down and put her past behind (the past before 2009). I am not assuming anything, it's just a theory because although she doesn't open up about who or what she's singing about, I'm still wondering where her inspiration comes from. I think she wasn't that in love with Luis, she actually said later that she found it irritating that he actually made a competition in how many fans reckognized him first over MC and how she didn't want to do that. I don't think MC doesn't write everything from her own experiences, for example Betcha Gon' Know is really an attempt to make an R Kelly-esque R&B song because she loves his style. I think some songs are definitely inspired by Nick but not like the whole lyrics being about something that really happened between them. Since she sequenced her MIAMTEC tracks as a story, she went from Beautiful to Thirsty; I can't help but thinking this track is about Nick. If really so than she's really throwing the shade at him. Maybe she was mad at him one day and went for it. Then she talks about loving this "playa" that she can't resist in MILG. (Nick used to be one before they got married.) Meteorite could be inspired by her AI journey. I used to think TAOLG was about Tommy bacause of his book, but with the "delete Mimi" line it could be about letting go of the label and their demands to repeat the success formula of that album, what she probably feels is been there done that and move on to a new style which she succesfully did so with MIAMTEC.

Vocal arrangements (45,143) by S from
To this_is_qhm, I read your recent post and just want to say I've noticed and love that detail too that you mentioned; the layering of hooks that Mariah does in Heartbreaker etc. Her ability to create things like that as well as her background vocals is something I really admire. I also love the vocal arrangement in the song God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen from her first Christmas album, the fact that it's completely acapella and her voice only with multiple layers, singing and harmonizing, makes it even more impressive. Mariah must have a really good musical ear and be able to hear things others wouldn't notice because there's no other way to explain how she comes up with these brilliant ideas.

Last Chance and Head Over Heels (45,142) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Any hardcore fan would know that these were two songs Mariah gave to Allure, the girl group under her own (first) label back in the 90s. Head Over Heels served as the moderately successful lead single and featured Mimi herself on background vocals. Sonically, it's the lovechild of the Fantasy remix and Honey. The entire song structure screams hip-hop Mariah. I love how she layered 2 separate hooks into one chorus (if someone knows the exact musical term for it, please enlighten me, thanks), which she's done several times particularly on the post-chorus of Fantasy, the pre-chorus of Loverboy, and even 3 in the final chorus of Heartbreaker and again, Fantasy. I think it would've been a great addition to Butterfly, as I've always wished that masterpiece had more mid/up-tempo cuts. Last Chance, on the other hand, (if I'm not mistaken) is an outtake from the Music Box era. It's a straightforward pop-R&B song that follows the template of her earlier balladry. It does get saccharine at times, mostly because of the production, but it still gets me gooey inside. It surprisingly gets considerable airplay here in the Philippines especially late-night radio shows and in fact has inspired a few cover versions from local artists here as well. This could've fit well in Music Box or Daydream, as I've always felt those albums were a bit too short and sweet. Does anyone else wish that Mariah kept these songs too?

You know what? (45,141) by Raphael from Brazil
All I want is that Mariah drops some singles and let this album go. Make another to release next year (not a Christmas album oh no). Lets face it MIAMTEC took years to be released and now it's a flop. I dont care if it flopped but it's all a mess since 2012.
