I've watched a short clip of Mariah singing "The Art of Letting Go" in Nigeria and it wowed me. Seemed like she has recovered so well form thag National Tree Lighting ceremony performance debacle. I hope she continues with this kind of vocal condition. It's sad that I only see Mariah being talked on Facebook because she cracked while singing, on the other side it's also nice to read all their thoughts and concern for her. By the way, congratulations Mariah for, again, having "All I want For Christmas Is You" at #1 on Holiday charts and #26 on Hot 100. Plus #Beautiful being a part of the Hot 100 year end chart.

Mariah slaying (40,233)
by Matthew from USA
| |

Holy cow. Head over to Mariah's instagram to catch a snippet of her live performance of TAOLG. It's very short, but she is slaying it in what we can hear. See this is what I'm talking about. Roller coaster. Just when everyone says it's over after a bad performance, she does another performance and everyone is like, ok maybe not. Lol. Don't count Mariah out guys.

Purpose of interviews and Beyonce (40,232)
by Matthew from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah invited Kathy Lee and Hoda into her home for another mini interview. They all consumed alcoholic beverages so the lambs won't be pleased with that. But I was wondering exactly what Mariah is promoting with these series of interviews. Is she just trying to keep her profile up going into the new year? Mimi and Beyonce seem to both be going through the same thing with their record labels. They are creating music and the record labels don't think it's commercial enough so they order the artist to go back to the drawing board. Both Mariah and Beyonce seemed to go back to the drawing board and pushed back their albums while dropping a song or releasing a snippet here or there. It seems Beyonce finally just decided to release what she had, whether the label supported it or not. I think Mariah is frustrated with the label as well, but I think she will play by the rules so that she can have some support from the label.

Innovation not immitation (40,231)
by nikki from usa

|
Shakira's using her toothpaste commercial as a springboard, Beyonce is releasing her album straight to iTunes. Mariah released her single straight to Facebook (to iTunes). I'm not sure how the latter worked out for her, as we weren't given any numbers, but it was innovative. All I want to see is Mariah on talk shows, on magazine covers, and radio interviews. Personally, I think it would be awesome if she kicked off her album release by singing the songs off her new album at a concert in Camp Mariah televised on Oprah. We could turn it into a donation even. Like: Mariah will sing 10 additional songs from her catalog based off of which songs get the most dollar votes. Pledge a dollar amount with which song you want to hear from her and the most money making songs get heard. I think that's the only way I'll get to hear Inside live. That would be innovative.

Mariah slayage top of the year (40,229)

I really want Mariah to have chart success. I think she can but she has got to have great singles, perform them well and promote. Hopefully Team Mariah can pull it together. Mariah's voice is timeless. She deserves to be celebrated. Come on lambs.

Bey has been promoting an album all since the Super Bowl (40,228)
by KayJoy from USA
| |
|
|
Yes, Bey came out of nowhere with her album release, however she has been on tour the whole year, slowly releasing songs that were indeed on the album. And she just had the social media buzz. The thing with Mariah is she doesn't get the same support. I feel as people don't truly value her work. Nobody ever says the next Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion etc. Yet everytime someone comes out they are the new her. That's disrespectful. I don't know why Mariah doesn't have the same social buzz. Neither pop or urban radio play her like they should.

I can't agree with B from the US more (40,227)
by Critter from USA

I want to like Beyonce's music, but I can't get past her voice and way of singing. Irreplaceable, isn't it annoying to sing like that or what? No offence to her or her fans though. I do enjoy Destiny's Child. That's pure harmony of 3 singing voices. And I do enjoy her in one of the Austin Power movies. Anyways, I am still hopeful about Mariah. I'm waiting for her full album to drop. Thanks.

Surprise release (40,226)
by Lee from UK
| |
|
|
I think if Mariah released her album in the same way as Beyoncé, nobody would notice outside of America and it wouldn't sell as well. I mean, Mariah gets next to no promotion in the UK and as such, she doesn't perform very well on the UK charts. The only people who buy her music in the UK are her fans who follow her career and know when the music is going to be released. There is no way a surprise release with no promotion will improve that.

She did the surprise release without any promotion because her label didn't feel she had any strong songs/singles. From what I've heard the label was right. She's an entertainer. Mariah is a singer, songwriter, and producer. I still have faith in MC's voice. She's human and her performances aren't always going to be perfect.

My two cents (40,223)
by Lee from USA
| |
|

I don't see the logic on losing faith in Mimi. She did put out a top-20 hit which went platinum with shoddy promotion. As far as Beyoncé releasing all of these videos, we shouldn't sweat it. It seems like desperation and frustration to me. It makes no sense to throw shade at an industry that pretty much threw her a parade every time she stepped on the scene. I expect Mimi to say something like that, not "queen" Bey. Adele blew her out the water two years ago despite her not being a size two or being heavily promoted. Columbia saw that Adele outsold Lady Gaga and Beyoncé with little promotion. So it may make them rethink about who should be their golden girl, and the queen don't want that.

Quality (40,222)
by Tony from Ireland

I have to say that I'm very impressed with Beyoncé's new album. I think she just let go of any conventionalities and was trying to express herself as she pleased. There's a song call Ghost in which she sings "I do no trust on records companies, they got me torn" what I think reflects the music business at the moment. It has me wondering what Mariah is going to offer us next year, and I do believe that, like Beyoncé, she will bring us good quality music.

Beyonce's move (40,221)
by Carol from Spain

I actually didn't like most of the songs and the videos are just copies of one another. She got the element of surprise on her side and that's what makes the album sell. Quality wise? No, sorry doesn't do it for me. I admire Beyonce's courage in releasing it like this but I think she knows if she released the album conventionaly it wouldn't go nowhere.

Beyonce / MC (40,220)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
I mean social media is reaching a fever pitch about the Beyonce album. I wish MC had done this but the problem is because she is not the innovator regarding this move, she can't do it without people saying she's trying to keep up or copying Beyonce's strategy. Remember all the comparisons people drew from TEOM album cover and Beyonces Dangerously in Love album cover, even though they looked nothing alike? I hate that MC has to wait for IDJs blessing to finish this album and honestly that's no excuse to me because remember how quickly she finished Rainbow?

Mariah / Beyoncé (40,219)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom

|
It's a little unfair to compare Mariah to Beyoncé, as Beyoncé is a very visual artist. Mariah could never do 17 videos for one album. There's only so many times she can pout into a wind machine and playfully flash her knickers before people would get bored. What Beyoncé did was clever, calculated and above all empowering and confident. The only thing I'd say Mariah could take from it is to just own what she does and master it. Mariah has lost so much confidence in her abilities recently and it's painful to see her desperation. I wish she'd just own her own legacy and werk it. I'd hate for her to follow a trend or be compared to Beyoncé. Mariah is more than that. She's partly responsible for the likes of BeyoncĂ© and should own it. I know I've been very harsh on Mariah lately, but she's seriously seems lost to me. I expect a lot from her. However, I don't think it's a lot to expect someone to have a game plan and clear direction. She needs a clear out. She needs to fire a lot of people around her and start over, like she did with TEOM. I have no more to say on Beyoncé, because if it's not related to Mariah, it has no business on this message board.

Her album includes 17 videos, obviously the label had to finance those and music videos are part of promotion. So it can't be said that her label was completely against it and yet financed 17 music videos. It doesn't seem like a rushed project because so many videos weren't just filmed in one day. It took time and planning and she diverted all the attention towards herself right before Christmas. Her timing was perfect. The other post about her songs being unpolished and rushed, I do not agree with it as well. I heard them and they seem fine, like normal Beyonce songs. It's true some of the songs may not be great, but it definitely was not unpolished. Some of the songs were just meant to be raw, while the others had more heavy production. But then we all have our own opinions.

Beyonce / Mariah (40,217)
by Manny from U.S.

There is a lot of buzz on Beyonce's album. Mariah had something planned like that with the song TAOLG. Beyonce took it to another level. What Beyonce did is genius. I mean, if Mariah released an album out of nowhere with all those videos ,I would buy it in a heartbeat. I do buy Beyonce's music, but the last one she released didn't interest me at all. With the buzz on this one, I might buy it. I wonder if more artists will do more things like this. I wonder if Mariah will do the same. But everyone else will be criticised for copying Beyonce.

I always liked Beyonce, but for some reason I feel she never reached her full potential. I thought a lot of her time and success was spent with Destiny's Child which I thought has a better discography than herself alone. She's obviously super talented, but I think she shot herself on the foot with this surprise release. I listened to the album clips and they sound rushed and unpolished to me. In this age of singles, artists shouldn't release full extended materials/albums at once because an hour later everyone's just downloading it for free. It's an interesting move, but it makes me wonder if she's fully committed to this era if she's doing this and wonder the motivation behind it.

What Beyond did is nothing new folks, many artists have released their albums straight to iTunes with no promotion. But the reason everyone is making this such a big deal is because who Beyonce is and her status among today's pop star elite. Now onto Mariah. I am all for her fun side, but I just wish she would put the champagne on the backburner for now so she can finish this album and give us fans who still believe in her talent some proper promotion and great performance we see she still capable of as she proved with the Jimmy Fallon surprise performance for the fans recently. As for the national tree lighting ceremony, I leave that with a no comment.

According to a top snitch at Sony BMG, Beyonce's late night album release was not meant to happen this way at all. Two insiders who both confirm that the label execs did not like Beyonce's album, felt that she was moving in too [...] a direction, and were prepared to [...] and scrap the entire album. They were [...] willing to spend any dollars for promotion. Beyonce - taking advice from Jay Z - felt confident about the album, and its potential sales. So Jay Z urged her, and she agreed, to pull a [...]. She basically told the label release it now, no promo. If the album sells well, you can expect the label to [...] and pay for promo. That means interviews and the like. This should give us MC fans some insight as to why things happen sometimes the way they do in the music business and why it's taking MC so long to release her album. It's all politics.

MC / Beyonce (40,213)
by clueey23 from USA

I personally would buy a MC album, with no single, no promotion. Real fans would. What makes this move great for Beyonce and what would make it great for MC is that it's for the fans. And I believe MC has said in the past that she would like the music to go directly to the fans, ie: "The art of letting go". They're most likely in two different political climates. But in this singles driven market, that is how you release and sell an album. Way to go Beyonce! I know all of Beyonce contemporaries are going nuts, ie: Gaga spent something like $25 million to promote her latest and they still haven't recouped that money. So this is great for the entire industry. As far as visuals, if MC made a more conceptual album, where the album is actually telling a story, the visual aspect would work better for her. But as far as what Beyonce did with her visuals I don't think that would work for MC.

Hello (40,212)

Mariah's 200 million sold includes albums, singles, videos, and DVDs. Both Music Box and Daydream were certified Diamond for sales of 10 million in the US and both have sold 25 million [...]. Plus 13 million from her 13 platinum singles. Now add in the sales of her albums and videos and DVDs. These stats will not be duplicated, albums barely go platinum anymore. MC's legend is secure. Besides, she wrote 17 #1's. And she wasn't a featured artist on any of her hits. Who cares if the industry is a joke nowadays?

Beyonce comparisons (40,209)
by Lyric from USA

I'm as slayed by this whole saga as anyone else. The album is one of her best and the strategy is brilliant. But no point in wishing Mariah had done something similar. Mariah is not the most creative when it comes to visuals, probably because she has always just focused on the voice. Now that her voice is not as reliable, maybe she should be pulling some stunts. I don't think we should assume that something like this would have even worked for Mariah. Beyonce is more current and has a larger fanbase with young people. With that being said, I'm sure tons of artists will be following suit with a similar concept if Beyonce's is proven successful. She practically crashed the entire world wide web lol.
