See, now I can respect what you're saying: that it could've possible been a big hit with video, and radio promotion. This is a more logical discussion in reference to the song. My gripe was people not realizing that it would've taken those two things for this song to make a huge impact, so it can't really be considered a flop when it wasn't promoted to be a hit.

But the song have big potential to be a hit, if promotion is good. I know, it's only for the fans, bla bla bla. But nothing's wrong if they try to put this song on the radio and have some promotion.

To the right is my face when people keep asking the same questions about TAOLG. Why must we keep having the same discussion over and over in reference to why it's not a hit. People. I ask you to just simply read the message board and you will have a good answer and if its not too much I also ask you to just make peace with it.

I can't understand the lambily (40,048)

Why do people keep attacking JD? Why do people (not to say fans) keep attacking TAOLG? This was never meant to be a radio song. This was supposed to be a release for the fans only. You expect too much when Mariah never promissed anything. She promissed a song close to her heart, that should be enough for the fans at least. Be grateful she's releasing good quality music, neverminding the trends out there.

TAOLG / JD (40,047)
by B from USA

There will be an exclusive lambs-only moment on 7/23. I think MC's original plan was to release TAOLG on 7/23 and then postponed the release until she felt better. This "single" hasn't been serviced to radio, there is no video, and there has been nothing else said. Nothing! I think JD has her working on material. He after all helped MC bring her A game for TEOM. He's going to steer her in the right direction. She'll have a single with a big, sing a long chorus, a video directed by a big name, and a slimmed down figure.

Rocking around the Christmas III (40,046)

Lol, great album title! The Perfect Year was by Dina Carroll, not Diana. I am a huge fan of hers, even though she only made two albums. Mariah fans should check her out as I'm sure you'll like Perfect Year and Don't Be A Stranger. She was a wonderful singer, I hope the rumours of her putting out a new album are true. I've always wished Mariah would sing Cold Cold Christmas by Dana, and Tennessee Christmas by Amy Grant. Even though she isn't from the deep south, it's still a lovely song.

Where's Jermaine? (40,045)

After the big flop of "The art of letting go" and still not a release date for the album, I wonder what is Jermaine Dupri doing as a manager. I hope that MC could understand that she needs a real manager, because after being in the business over 23 years and with all the new idols of this generation, it is not easy to impact the radios.

Rocking Around The Christmas III (40,043)
by Will from Australia

I really hope MC records another Christmas album in a few years. It got me thinking about what I'd like to hear aside from a few originals, anyone else have some songs they'd want? 1. Rockin Around The Christmas III 2. Pipes of Peace (amazing Paul McCartney song) 3. Where Are You Christmas (love to hear her version) 4. I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everday (Wizzard cover that I can imagine an awesome AIWFCIY arrangement) 5. I'll Be Home For Christmas 6. Jingle Bell Rock 7. Away In A Manger 8. It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas 9. It's Christmas All Over The World Tonight (little known Sheena Easton song from the 80s, YouTube it) 11. Carol Of The Bells (I get goosebumps thinking of Mariah doing this with multi layered vocals) 12. The Perfect Year (Diana Carroll did a lovely version a year before AIWFCIY was released)

My mistake and Bublé (40,042)
by Lee from UK

I've only just read back my post and realised I'd typed 2003 instead of 1993. Sorry about that folks. I don't know if I am going to enjoy the Mariah and Bublé duet as I assume they will sing AIWFC. Michael's version is much slower and I don't know how Mariah will fit into it. Maybe they will surprise us and sing a completely different song.

One Child (40,041)
by Will from England

|
|
Since we are officially in the Christmas season, can we take a moment to appreciate the masterpiece from MCIIY that was "One Child"? As far as I'm concerned, it's the best Christmas carol-esque/Christmas themed song she has ever written. The composition, the lyrics, the vocal display she put on that record, the child choir. It's such a simple song yet packed with a power only Mariah could bring to a song like that. It's a divine song to just sit back and marvel at. I was so pleased when she performed that song at the White House, and secretly hoping/wishing that she performs it this year at Rockefeller Centre.

That performance was from December 1991, not 1994. I have the video of it. I'm excited for the Buble duet, I hope she doesn't mess it up. I think she needs to stop focus on new material in December as AIWFCIY is in heavy rotation and will distract people from her new stuff.

I'm excited that Mariah will be finally performing after so long! I'm especially excited about the Buble duet. I hope some album news follows soon. Christmas time usually always puts MC back in the news, I hope she takes this opportunity to start promoting her album. I need me some MC music dahlin'.

Mariah superstitious? (40,038)
by Tory from Australia
| |

I mentioned in a post a couple weeks ago about her heart necklace she used to wear during the first three years of her career, that I assumed she wore for good luck. I've also noticed in a couple of award shows from 1992 to 1996 she also wore a red ribbon/broche. I assume it was either for good luck or in support of Alison (red ribbon for world AIDS day). Watching a lot of performances, you tend to notice these little details lol.

If you look at Mariah's hair, make up, style etc, it's very similar to Can't Let Go and that era. Also, take note of the backing singers. They're are all from the early part of Mariah's career. I can't see it being any later than 1992 tbh.

Glitter: If We (Gotti / Lopez / Mottola, I'm Real), Lead The Way, Never Too Far. Charmbracelet: Clown, I Only Wanted, Subtle Invatation, Lullaby, BOTHB, and Sunflowers. Memoirs: Candy Bling. Before Glitter anything she sang/wrote went platinum. She'll get it together. Never count her out or question her talent. TEOM, anyone? The Art oOLetting Go is stuck in my head. She sounds great. She has that fire, that determination again. Excited.

I think this album perfectly complements the 1994 release. They each stand well separately, but they work even better together. Both are consistent, soulful, and (to use one of Mariah's favorite terms) festive. I think the 2010 album is actually a bit more mature and classy, though its predecessor will always be the best-loved original. Give me either, and I'm happy.

No Austin, it was actually 1991 (40,032)
by Marcel from Montréal, Canada

The video for that Hark! The Herald Angels Sing is from back in 1991, I have an old recording (VHS tape) that my aunt recorded and it's from that year and the ring she wears is not any kind of engagement ring or that. She actually said she bought that ring to compensate she hadn't one when she graduated or something like that, cannot really recall exactly why she bought it but she mentioned it in one old interview. If you check the video not even closely, you have to notice her makeup, her eyebrows, hairdo is so 1991, Walter is not playing the piano (something he did for her always since 1992 to 1997) and the guy guiding the chorus is actually one of her back then 3 male backup singers, before she got the fab-five in 1992.

Lee and Victor (40,031)
by Austin from USA

Lee, that video is from the release of Mariah's first Christmas album (1993/1994) while she was married to Tommy Mottola, her first marriage. Victor, R. Kelly announced a collaboration with Mariah while he was at the American Music Awards, which was last week, where he performed with Lady Gaga. On another topic, I really enjoy Mariah's new song, "The art of letting go". While I agree that it's not radio material, I appreciate the release. Mariah seems to be making the music she wants. It's obviously not a single to launch the new album. If her predictions of a release date are right, we should be getting a new, proper single at the beginning of the year to start the promotion. I'm sure Mariah will release a stellar song to impact radio and media. I'm happy with her new direction and hope the whole album is influenced by the stylings of #Beautiful and "The art of letting go". To the person that suggested "The art of letting go" is commentary on her record label, I find that assumption interesting. If so, it's a very clever way to release her frustration.

1991? (40,030)

Are we sure that version of Hark The Herald Angels Sing was from 1991? It seems to me she is wearing a wedding ring and correct me if I'm wrong but she wasn't married until 2003. I guess it could be an engagement ring.

Tyler/ Merry Christmas II You (40,028)
by RadChad from United States

I kinda agree with you. I'm gonna go on record right now and say I definitely prefer "Oh Santa" over "All I Want For Christmas", to me it's more fun and festive. "Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem" and "The First Noel" are both very beautifully angelic and spiritually touching. They both have an intimate feel to it, almost as if they recorded her singing a lullaby to dem babies one night. "Christmas Time Is In The Air" is a standard classic song while "When Christmas Comes" is a soulful classic. The whole album has so many great moments. I was almost scared when I found out she was going to do a second Christmas album (because first one couldn't be touched), but it came right on time and nearly three Christmases later I couldn't be more thankful she did. Overall I would say they're equally great, but I connect more to MCIIY spiritually. Now we all know how epic the first album is so I won't even go into it, but I'll just say MC forever changed "Oh Holy Night" for me, I have yet to hear a soul on earth top her rendition, it's just beyond. Happy holidays everyone.

My top 25 Mariah Carey favourite tracks (40,027)
by Loris from Italy
| |
|
|
For me these ones are the best tracks of her entire catalogue. No track from Rainbow, Glitter, Charmbracelet and E=MC2 made the final cut, while #Beautiful, which incorporates influences from the Motown Sound and the Beatles, stands at no. 8 as one of her timeless songs, and surely the best pop song of 2013! Also, Slipping Away, a B-side, is included (no. 4) as her most underrated and less known track, in Music Box or Daydream it would have fit perfectly. 25. Anytime You Need A Friend 24. Someday 23. Music Box 22. Emotions 21. Vanishing 20. Daydream Interlude 19. Underneath The Stars 18. Always Be My Baby 17. Looking In 16. Honey 15. I Don't Wanna Cry 14. Fantasy 13. Hero 12. Make It Happen 11. If It's Over 10. We Belong Together 9. My All 8. #Beautiful 7. Butterfly 6. H.A.T.E.U. 5. The Roof 4. Slipping Away 3. Without You 2. All I Want For Christmas Is You 1. Vision Of Love
