Unsung lyrics (38,701)
by Gerome from Canada

She couldn't sing "she wades in insecurity and hides herself inside of me". It rang true to what she's experiencing right now. Heartbreaking.

Mariah on letting go of the Label (38,700)
by Anonymous from

If this is true, then good for her. I hope she can find a great label to work with. I would not be surprised if the company was working on Yeezus. That album sucks compared to what Mariah is going to put out. Kanye used to be really good when he made the Good Life album. After that he just got full of himself. But yes, his album will sell better no matter how it sounds. I just don't get it.

Looking In (38,699)

Hi everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed MC at MLB and was floored to hear "Looking In". I always related to that song on such a deep level. I'm not sure I can find the words to describe how much both Looking In and Close My Eyes meant to me. They were like comforting friends that expressed perfectly how I was feeling during some incredibly trying, deeply personal experiences. I can understand why she got choked up. Solid live performances. I hope it is true that there's a label change in the works. She hasn't been promoted properly by Def Jam in ages.

I would love some mp3s of the songs sung, especially Looking In. Man, there is no way she forgot the lyrics. Watch the up close video on MDJ and I'm telling you that was simply her getting caught up remembering a tough time in her life. Ok I said that already, sorry. Such a great song and a powerful performance. She can still sing live. That's for dang sure.

That song is the personal anthem of mine. I'm not a fan of the softer vocals, but for that song, it fits it so well. It's probably in my top 5 favorite songs by MC. When a song affects you so much as that song does, it's understandable she would get caught up in an emotional moment and forget the lyrics. That song was such a powerful statement of what she was going through at the time. It's no surprise it was the last song on the album. It left people with a sad taste in their mouths because MC was very sad at the time. So happy to see her sing it live. Dream come true. Priceless.

I have never listened to the full Looking In song. Never. I always felt it was too depressing, so I would always pass it up, but this performance really got to me. I have a new respect for this song. It only took me 17 years to appreciate it. Lol.

The voice / benefit performance (38,694)
by PJW from The U.K.

I've re-written this about 10 times, thinking how best to be positive about the situation, but here it is straight up: a bit of emotion from her doesn't sway it for me. Mariah's voice (with the exception of her head voice) is screwed. And personally, as a fan since I first heard VOL in 90, I'm offended by how it's passed off to us that nothing has changed, that she's as good as ever. She doesn't even have the dignity to be honest with her ridiculously loyal fans and for what? To save her ego? I can't anymore. And it breaks my heart to write that. If she admitted vocal damage, I wouldn't mind, but she won't even do that and then drinks like a fish on top. Her prerogative, admittedly, but then at least admit you're making the compromise. Hero at the Benefit was the final straw for me. Her voice was weak and broken, disguised as ever by riffs or key changes that are of no benefit to the song, messy backing arrangement and the skill of Mary-Ann Tatum to replicate Mariah's voice. Remember, this is Mariah Carey we're talking about. She of the syrupy, fluid, rich but soft, powerful voice. All this swooning just boosts her already fragile ego and gives her the impression she's singing beautifully. She's not. We, as fans, are listening with our hearts and not our heads and so it's easy to pull out looking in and say how great it is but really, she could barely hold a chest note. Sorry but at this point I don't want to be lied to. Show me that real you you speak of, Mariah, but don't lie.

She didn't forget them, she broke down and picked up where the song was at which was past those lyrics. Who cares, it was amazing and proved she still has her voice. And she did so with a cracked rib.

Such a wonderful surprise. Beautiful vocal from Mariah and a very touching, endearing performance. Hopefully, this is indicative of the type of depth she is looking to recreate with this new album. The lyrics to Looking In are incredible IMO, and it's one of that many highlights of the Daydream album, which is criminally underrated amongst Mariah fans IMO. That album and songs like Looking In set the tone for Butterfly, which is my favourite Mariah album.

I wouldn't so far to say that she forgot the lyrics. A song so personal to you, especially with what she went through at the time, you wouldn't forget something like that. No, I think she just got to the part of the song that really struck a note with her and just couldn't sing that part. I have to say though, it's the first time I've seen her breakdown during a performance since she sang Petals during the Rainbow tour. Very touching moment for us all.

Lets give MC an applause. I think all fans had a deep connection with that song. I know I did just watching her. To me that is an intimate performance. I'm glad I heard something different and something new and something so close to her heart. What a performance. I would've loved to have been there.

Hi lambs. Mariah, you did my heart good with your humble but true performance on Saturday. For that, we all thank you. May you rest and heal well. We truly do look forward to the new material, perhaps for the fall, ala "Butterfly". Be well to yourselves and others.

I am so happy this was 100% live. I loved the arrangement of Beautiful and Looking In. I definitely think this was Mariah's "fuck you" performance to all the haters who caught her out lip syncing. She sounded good considering, but imagine what she could have sounded like here if she was in full health. As much I love the song Looking In and the fact she even wanted to sing it all, I don't think this was the time or the place for it. I did have a little lump in my throat though when she had to pause.

Looking In was lipped. Haha, just kidding. My gosh, what a performance. That completely took me by surprise, and was the best performance she has done in a long, long time. So emotive and fragile, and sung with such dignity and grace. What a joy to listen to.

I'm obsessed with the black and white and pink yet lavender clip of Mariah singing Looking In from yesterday. I can't even know what to say about how it feels watching it. Hearing and seeing it live brings the song to life for me this many years later. Amazing.

Mariah's hospital breasts (38,682)
by Geronimo from USA

I usually ignore the debate about Mariah's boobs, but I just wanted to say that they were pretty tame in the photos of her leaving the hospital in a wheelchair. That makes me think that there may really be some truth to push-up/underwire theory of ever-expanding frontiers. Just saying.

Here I am, for all of them to bleed (38,681)
by Chase from USA

I think Mariah sounded beautiful at the hurricane benefit show. Her voice is strong, with an added huskiness that wasn't there before. So far, I've watched My All and Looking In. As I watch her standing there with a sling around her arm, singing live with a voice that shows wear and tear, and commanding the stage, I am overcome. She is showing us that she is human, she is real, and she is not afraid to share this moment with the world. After the lip synching controversy and criticism in recent weeks, the uncertainty of the album release date, and her injury, she sings, "Well, here I am, for all of them to bleed." I may have my share of complaints about the current state of Mariah's career, but I think this performance and what it represents says it all. This is why I love Mariah. This restores my faith.

Looking In, Hero and the bling sling (38,680)
by Joe from United Kingdom

Looking In was a great suprise and fully live definitely my favourite performance out of the bunch, followed by Hero. I laughed when I saw her three different slings, it was typical Mariah (In a good way). By the way, the best quality, more close up footage I've seen of the Looking In performance is named " Looking In rare first and only live performance". Check it out on YouTube for those of you who were asking. I hope that helps.

Wow, raw and truthful. That should silence all the negativity slingers. She is a legend, amazing performance. PS: All artists do pre-recordings and lips, especially when they are established. As long as new music comes to the fans, they should be happy. Imagine she decides to not make music anymore, then yall have to listen to the pretenders lol. Stay festive folks.

Looking In was a strong statement (38,678)
by Carol from Spain

Mariah never ceases to amaze me. Not ever. This surprise of Looking In. I'm speechless, indeed I am. she was perfect in every way. Just one thing: In my heart I believe she sang Looking In for the haters to tell them "I'm hurt by your comments and I can sing. You'll never know the real me." This was for me the ultimate statement. Mariah is unique and a legend and legends don't need to prove anything to anyone. My queen still has it, I just hope people respect her more in the future, while she still lives, because after she's dead she doesn't need it at all.
