Yes. I didn't care for it as a single but I love "Bye bye". I sing it all the time. I love to sing harmony with it when she goes into "every day of my life, I wish, I wish, I wish and I wish as time goes bye" lol. Also harmony, when she goes into "if I could say bye bye, bye bye, bye bye, said come on somebody sing it with me wave ya hands up high". I love that song.

Other divas (39,045)

Joechim: There's nothing to feel guilty. I'm also a big fan of Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, and Teena Marie. And I like Dionne, I actually liked/purchased Beyonce and Kelly Rowland's latest effort as well. I give everyone a fair chance, but MC is just that diva that's effortlessly untouchable IMO. There's just that special something about her, the voice, and music that has always stood out from the rest.

Bye Bye and Unplugged (39,042)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
Once again, I have to go against the grain. I love Bye Bye. I still listen to it and belt it at the top of my lungs when she gets to the final chorus. In fact, my niece and nephew hit the power windows and wave Bye Bye when it comes on to all the passing cars. The real surprise is that when I play it every year for 8th grade graduation, I'm a teacher, the students know the song. It's not as strong as One Sweet Day and it's not her best lyric, but the production and vocal by her and Stargate is awesome and I'm tired of you all bashing it as a song and a single choice. MC making an unplugged right now would be a disaster. I'm not critical of MC albums or single choices, I tend to like them all anyway. Her live performances, for the most part, are awful. She is considered one of the greatest voices around. The smoke and mirrors, and lip syncing have kept her reputation safe. If she puts it out here, while she can still hold a tune, her voice is not what it was and it will be the final nail in the coffin.

Album: E=MC2 (39,041)

In my opinion, I thought this was a good album, but I place the blame on Island Def Jam for not promoting the album. I felt like after Toch My Body hit numbet one Island Def Jam said, "we're not putting no promotion in thus album" in hopes that it would achieve the same status as TEOM. I never felt Touch My Body was worthy of being number one, especially when you look at all the good songs on that album. First of all, Migrate should have been the first single hands down, but no they decided that Bye Bye and LTLT were better choices. [...] with Jeezy to me was the best off the album, but none of these songs saw the light of day. I Stay In Love should have never been a single, it sounds too much like We Belong Together. My point is, what is Island Def Jam doing for her, because her album sales have been on the decline since 2008?

Lol, no I don't feel guilty at all. Now it would be different if you completely replaced Mariah, then we would have to talk. Lol. In my later post I had mentioned that I listened to Beyonce album called 4. And after listening to it I said to myself, uh oh, Mariah better get going because this other diva is trying to catch up real fast. Real fast.

So I wound up watching The Butler the night it came out. The movie was awesome and very moving. Everyone did a great job and yes, Mariah had no words, but her part spoke many volumes. Her reactions were so real and good. I felt it. The entire movie was great and everyone should see it.

Do you guys sometimes feal guilty because you love a song of onother diva? Well, I do, and now for the first time I really like a song of Beyonce. It's not that really known, I can't find it anywhere on Wikipedia or Spotify. The song has some 200.000 views on YouTube, it's a song from the film Epic. I guess it was a bigger flop then Almost Home then, that at least got 5 million views on YouTube. Nevertheless, you should check it out, now in Mariah drougth, I think it's allowed to have some guilty pleasures. Now, on favourite albums, I became a fan when she released Butterfly, after I heard My All on the radio. After that, I bought all her albums, and I must say that actually I like Daydream more, but Butterfly is close to my heart, because actually I like the sexy Mariah more then the preacher's wife Mariah. But she pushes the boundaries a bit too much sometimes, and I think that is the reason she lost a bit off popularity in Europe in the late '90s. My favourite '00s album is Glitter. By then I had become a huge fan, and I loved the music on it, hated the movie though. Glitter was actually picked as the top five albums of the year by the biggest newspaper here in Norway. I played it all the time. I think it was at that time my family started to dislike Mariah. I can't choose between TEOM and E=MC2, I like them both really much. I don't care for MOAIA, but I did like CB when it was released, but I never listen to it now. Ok, Daydream from the '90s, Glitter from the '00s.

I believe Daydream and Butterfly best represent Mariah's '90s work, expertly blending pop, r&b and hip-hop with touching lyrics and truly expressive vocals. I became a fan during the Daydream era, and that album has a sentimental advantage. As a personal artistic statement, however, I believe Butterfly surpasses Daydream. The Emancipation Of Mimi is another expertly balanced, seamless record that stands head and shoulders above Mariah's other 2000s output. I do not care for E=MC2, which I find formulaic. I enjoyed Memoirs upon its release and consider it an improvement, but it has not stood the test of time with me. It's nice to see Charmbracelet getting praise. Lyrically, I believe this ranks beside Butterfly. It is easily my second favorite 2000s album, and I frequently listen to it.

I saw The Butler last night (39,033)

Mariah needs to continue to pursue small roles leading up to an Academy winning performance. Her scene in "The Butler' was amazing, even though she didn't speak. I want to see her win a Supporting Actress Oscar, so I hope she keeps putting that vulnerability we see in her music on film. By the way, I enjoyed the movie, so will you.

This is always such a tough topic. In terms of the 90s, I really am torn between Daydream and Emotions. I know 90% of fans say Butterfly, but it was a bit too somber for me, though I do love The Roof, Breakdown and Babydoll. For 2000 to now, I'm going to say (gasp) Glitter. Vocally, it was one of her best records. Loverboy is one of my favourite songs of Mariah's, and I loved the video. Lead the Way, If We, All My Life, Never Too Far, Reflections... great tracks. Close behind would be Emancipation and Charmbracelet.

Fav album 2000 to 2013 (39,028)

For me, it's TEOM. it's definitely a beastbofcan album. A classic. However, I do love MOAIA, and always have. I've always felt it was a good body of work, with some great lyrical moments from Mariah, such as Languishing or Betcha Gon Know. With that being said, I think that moment is over for Mariah, and she should be aiming for a different sound. To be fair to Mariah, Glitter and Charmbracelet were good albums. To public, the music industry, the media, and radio all wanted Mariah to fail. She could have released TEOM during this period and it would have flopped. They were both good albums. Not her greatest IMO, but good albums nonetheless. They just happened to be released at a point when people wanted a break from her. I believe that with #Beautiful, part of its success was because people had a long break from Mariah, and were just happy to hear a good, solid single from her. It's a shame she has jeopardised that with a cute, but redundant video by modern standards, and by failing to get her act together.

Best MC album (39,027)
by Trish from USA

Best MC album is Butterfly hands down. Lyrically every song was amazing, and I feel the quality of the production has never been as strong on albums since. The lyrics to Breakdown, Butterfly, The Roof, 4th Of July, Whenever You Call, Close My Eyes, Babydoll, and Outside were all incredible. Mariah poured herself into the making of the album and made every song on Butterfly perfect. Forgive me but the #1s from that album are the weakest songs on it, but I do love the My All/Stay A While remix. That album was mostly R&B but didn't isolate fans because the lyrics were relatable no matter who you were, and she gave us some of the prettiest pop ballads ever (Butterfly, Close My Eyes, and Whenever You Call specifically). I agree with everyone who loved MOAIA, I love the album (love H.A.T.E.U), but feel it is missing/aching for raw ballads that are full length Mariah originals.

My favorite album since the Millennium has to be TEOM. As for songs, I just love "Languishing". BTW. I like to listen to songs in random order on my iPod. And last week, I heard "Now That You Know", "Joy To The World remix" and "Chain of Fool" with Aretha. I haven't heard it in a while and they are still so great. Cheers.

Hi guys and gals. For me to be honest my favorite song and favorite album always changes, I think in our lives we always feel most connected to a particular song or album. I went through some heartache with someone during the time E=MC2 came out then "4 the record" became one of my favorite songs, because I felt connected to it. Then later an old flame or so I thought came around, and with Memoirs HATEU became one of my favorites from the album. Because we all feel like that at one point. When you're happy and feel in love, you have all her songs that just make you feel warm inside. I wonder what song I'll connect to when she releases "The art of letting go". On another know, I've always loved "Betcha Gon' Know", to me that's a very powerful song. I bet with some good talent she could've made that an excellent music video. "So I pulled to the side of the road to fix my face."

My fav album? (39,023)

Has to be CB. IOW is the best song on that album IMO. Yes, it's short, but the lyrics are her best since The Roof, "farewell fair weathered friend, abandonment returns to taunt me again". Brilliant. It wasn't really a "singles" album, it needed to be heard in its entirety and it's a very easy album to listen to. I'm glad to see people have something good to say about MOAIA. I l.o.v.e. this album to pieces. Again, some sounded very similar to each other (Obsessed and Standing O), but it had its little gems like Candy Bling and HATE U. To me, Languishing was the Looking In of that album. It always makes me laugh how some fans ask her not to do rap collabs, when she gave us an entire album feature-free.

Yes, CB was a $9.99 therapy session. Lol. Everybody always says they have that one Mariah album where they really connected to the music. I never had that happen until CB came out. For me it wasn't about the belting or the whispering, it was the words that she sang. I felt every word.

Deedre: You post was completely on point, I don't think I could've broken down that album any better (shout out to "Candy Bling" that's my joint). All I know is that I still bump Memoirs untill this day, and will never understand why the fans (especially) slept on it. Geraldine: If you lying you flying, totally agree. E=MC2 is my least favorite album as well (though I do enjoy a few songs from it), it's the album I feel the most disconnection from. Memoirs was a huge step up from E=MC2 IMO, but unless she's belting every syllable , people won't ever recognize it. Lica: Thanks for your post. Charmbraclet to me was one of her most intimate albums, it pretty much felt like a therapy session, which is why I always felt so connected to it especially during that era. Allan: Exactly. People forget how much Mariah has musically given us more than many other artist has given there fans. Mariah is Mariah and doesn't need to pattern herself after any other divas. Breaking the mold is why she's still here.

My favorites, I love them all but in this order: 1. Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. This album just sounded so inspired and real. 2. Charmbracelet 3. The Emancipation of Mimi platinum 4. Glitter 5. E=MC2 6. The Remixes. Even though songs like "Crybaby" and "Breakdown" weren't remixes. And to me that is a perfect example of the label not listening to MC because I know she would've included the "Breakdown/Mo Thugs" and also "The Roof" with Mob Deep. Just saying. I bought "Greatest Hits" but I already owned everything that was featured on this double album. I didn't purchase "The Ballads" because I already owned all of the featured material on this album. I didn't understand this release. I wish instead of "The Ballads", the contract obligation should've been made to release "The B-Sides/Unreleased". That would've been great.
