Mariah's best friend is her airbrush. I'd assume any difference in size is likely to be attributed to that and some padding. I'm not sure where this topic has come from, but whilst it's your prerogative to bring up any topic you want on this board, I find it a tad redundant to bring up something that has been discussed a million times over since like 1999. Mariah's been defending her body image for a long time, and quite frankly, I hate seeing topics like this on a fan message board. It's not healthy for Mariah, her fans, or women in general.

Redo album cover (38,184)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom

For me, the MOAIA album cover has to be her worst. It looks cheap and amateurish. It also seems to lack any direction. Mariah should have stuck to the white colour scheme, but kept it simpler, with a more poignant pose, and a nicer outfit. I'm sure she'll do much better with this album cover. She and her new team seem to be getting more right since the release of #Beautiful.

Okay, just based on fans opinions, did Mariah get a boob job? I always had her back with people who liked to twist my arm about that, because I remember when I've met her I don't recall seen them look so big as we see on pictures. Do you think they are enhanced? Or she really did have work done? Also thank you to those who answered the album question. I've always just be curious if anyone else could change an album cover what it would be.

Loverboy / Obsessed / Stacey (38,182)

I'm not a huge fan of the Loverboy song. I like it, but I don't love it. I think the lack of a coherent chorus is what annoys me. However, as a visual, I love the video. It's fun. If you're going to do a fun, summer video, with no choreography, then that's how you should do it. Re Obsessed, I love the song and video lol. I totally agree with you regarding the formula Stacey. It worked before, and I think if the music is on point, then it will work again.

That response gave me a laugh. thank you. That cover was all wrong. Bad shadows and bad Photoshop. Her chee chee's grow 3 different sizes with each pose. If she had a pic with just a relaxed look and her eyes closed, that would've been perfect. Because that album can put you to sleep.

I agree that a video with a storyline is necessary for her next video. The sex kitten is played out, and more funny than sexy at this point in her career. I was just saying that I'd hate for her to try to mimic these younger artists, like Aguilera did with Bionic. That's all. It seems that you think the same. We're obviously on the same wavelength lol.

Redo album cover (38,179)

My choice would have to be Memoirs. I loved the white packaging and magazine insert with reworking her debut images, but the triple layered Mariah with her sugar tits hanging out was not fitting for the music. It was too arrogant in my opinion. I agree, I hope this album will be a short title. I vote for "Lambily", dedicated to the lambs around the globe. Lol.

Loverboy/Obsessed, single choice (38,178)
by Stacey from USA

Loverboy is a good song with a fun vibe, but that video? That was a total "what the crap was that" moment for me, lol. A part of me feels bad for saying that, because MC was not healthy during that time. I do love the video for Obsessed. She totally poked fun at Eminem and could deny the video had nothing to do with him at the same time. Brilliant. Anyway, the second single doesn't need to be like WBT or some kind of knock-off to be successful. It just needs to be radio friendly, something the masses can appeal to, whether it's upbeat or a ballad. Know what I mean? I'm talking about the formula that worked for TEOM. It's the same formula that can work for the new album. #Beautiful is doing well, creating lots of good buzz for the new album. Now she's got to wow us with that ultra-important second single. Keep the momentum going so that when the album drops, it flies up the charts too. Well said, Stephen.

JD was the one who commented on a banger track he and Mariah had worked on. He said he was sure that fans would love it. Mariah and JD produced two great tracks together (ABMB and WBT). The problem comes when they try too hard to recreate them, then we end up with We Belong Together wannabe's like Angels Cry and I Stay In Love, good songs but never close to the former two. I think a not so quiet ballad would do as the second single. People call Rolling In The Deep a ballad. It seems to be that the definition of a ballad has changed with time. That wasn't a ballad to me all. I hope #Beautiful enters the top 10 in the next couple of weeks.

Album covers (38,176)

For the most part, I've always liked Mariah's albums covers. I remember thinking how mysterious she looked on the Daydream cover and sexy on Butterfly and #1's. Rainbow, to me, reflected Mariah's fun side, whereas I enjoyed the simplicity of Charmbracelet. The artwork of TEOM simply surpassed my expectations, and E=MC2 was a vintage version of it. The only cover that seemed, in my opinion, amateurish is MOAIA. The shadows always bothered me, and I gotta say the title is a bit lame and corny, too. I have no problem with Memoirs, but the " Imperfect Angel" part...

Loverboy (38,175)

For me, the reason Loverboy didn't work was the sample. I would love to hear the original version with the Firecracker sample. That and the timing. Mariah was years ahead of the trend of sampling 80's classics.

Blake, single choices, album title (38,174)

Blake, it's so funny to me that even as fans we disagree sometimes. I loved Loverboy and Obsessed and their accompanying videos. Why Loverboy was not a hit, I have no idea. The sample was hot and so was the vocal and to me it's one of MC's most vibrant videos. In addition, I didn't like the "Firecracker" sample Mottolla ripped off of her so I guess I was the lone one that was shocked when that tanked. Be careful when you guys ask for something fresh, because #Beautiful is fresh and sounds nothing like any other MC record and yet it bores me and many others to tears. I would like to hear, and no one's going to agree with me, a scorching ballad. Something like Beyonce's 1+1 or Melonie Fiona's 4 AM. Of course with MCs lyrical capabilities, it would be light years beyond those two songs. But the production and melody on those two songs are amazing and I'd like that instead of a repeated melody. Have you guys ever heard the instrumentals to Touch My Body or We Belong Together (boring). Finally, I would die of happiness for a one word album title. I know I'm asking/wishing for a lot. MC is more than capable of delivering, so I'll hold my breath.

Love Story and the Katy Perry reference (38,173)
by Blake from USA
| |
|
|
"Love Story" from E=MC2 is the song I always wished would have been a single, because it's such a good song. The MTV acoustic snippet she did in 08' was so good. This song is way better than Taylor Swift's hit song that is just lame in my opinion. "It's a love story baby, just say yes." Cheesy. Where Mariah's has very cohesive thoughtful lyrics and a catchy melody. Too bad. I guess we file that one away with Migrate as "what could have been". I only said Mariah's videos could be alot more creative like Katy's, because Katy's has a storyline, where Mariah just wants to lay down and act sexy in her videos. For me, that gets old. I don't want Mariah to be something she is not musically or artistically, like Katy's Alien theme E.T., or 80's braces TGIF, but Mariah needs to have story lines again. Otherwise its just weird and boring. I love the storyline of ILT and WBT tied together, but she doesn't seem to care about making quality videos anymore. #Beautiful and Triumphant could have been much better videos. It's the same ol' thing; her on camera wearing near nothings and lacking any storyline. She is better than this.

Personally, I think #Beautiful is a better song/single than It's Like That. As for the second single, I don't care if it's a ballad, as long as it isn't a We Belong Together retread.

I totally agree. Mariah needs to get the second single ready asap. It needs to be fire, and receive its debut two weeks before the album drops. A strong accompanying video is definitely needed, to send the song further up the charts in this very visual age. I do hope that the song is not a rip off of WBT, as I am fed up of hearing WBT knock offs from Mariah and JD. If she chooses a ballad, then I hope it is fresh and something that will capture audiences. If it's an up tempo song, then I hope its an absolute banger. I'll leave Mariah and her team to choose the appropriate style of song, but whatever it is, the video needs to be on point. Whilst I love the #Beautiful video, I am well aware that it won't do much to capture non fans, so do think Mariah needs something fresh there too. I don't agree with the person who used Katy Perry as an example. I think Mariah should still keep it her, and not try too hard to look like someone of little substance such as Katy. She needs a themed video. ILT and WBT really captured audiences. So did Honey. Something dramatic would be amazing. #Beautiful is a great song and has set the tone. This era is building, but lets hope it doesn't lose momentum, and that Mariah's team continues to do the good work. Mariah needs to get herself on TV and get word out there now. She could easily have another top 10 single if she did so.

by Blake from USA

I totally agree with you Stacey. I was just thinking how I hope the next single is rolled out before the album drops. What I think is cool is how #beautiful is how its so different for Mariah. I want the next single to explode in the way WBT did but not as a cookie cutter piano driven ballad. I love Mariah's creative process with trying new things. I was never a fan of "Loverboy" or "Obsessed", but I have to appreciate those songs for trying new things musically and artistically, plus they were hit singles. I think if Mariah focused on creative videos like Katy Perry, her music would sell better. Just my opinion of course. And yes, please give us a good album title Mariah. We are waiting dahling.

I don't know what kind of single she should release as #2, but in order to set the stage for a strong album sales start, it has to be a radio friendly, commercially great song. WBT was that kind of song that set TEOM on fire. The beat, lyrics, gosh everything on that song was sheer perfection. I can't remember if it was MC or another producer, but one person said there is a song on the new album that will blow people's mind. If that's so, release that song. Depending on how #Beautiful is doing at the end of June, maybe debuting the new single at Macy's 4th spectacular would be the way to go. The album would come out two weeks after that. Let the single blow up with a video right behind it (a good one, lol) and then you'll see the album flying off the shelves (ala TEOM). The buzz is great with this new album. She just needs to deliver with a good #2 single and promotion.

Gilbert - Re: album cover (38,167)
by John from USA

If given a chance, I would have to redo Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel's album cover. I've always imagined the album cover looking like this: Picture Mariah sprawled on the bedroom floor face down (head tilted so that the right side of her face is showing, of course), mascara tear on one eye, her back bearing broken wings. Around her are torn pages of a diary as well as old pictures from her past. Too literal? Well, it's still better than the actual cover, which I think totally misrepresented the album. Come to think of it, I don't quite remember any album cover with multiple pictures of the same artist that had actually been successful.

It's Like That vs. #Beautiful - Billboard Hot 100 chart trajectory (38,166)
by John from USA

|
|
I found ILT's Hot 100 chart trajectiory: 53 (debut) - 36 - 24 - 20 - 19 - 20 - 16 (peak) - 16 - 17 - 19 - 24 - 30 - 36 - 27 - 33 - 45 - 51 - 53 - 64 - 66 (last appearance on the chart). ILT had a 20-week run on the BB Hot 100 charts. Now, compare that with #Beautiful's trajectory so far: 24 (debut) - 20 - 20 - 17. Thoughts?

#Beautiful (total weekly single sales question) (38,165)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
With two fairly similar versions of #Beautiful (original) at #19 and #Beautiful (explicit) at #125 at the moment, I wonder: What would the total single sales be (and approximate iTunes position if you count them together)? I know that remixes, if sufficiently different from the original, Billboard usually counts them as two different singles. This was done pretty much after the sales for JLo's I'm Real and its remix (that was totally different in form and composition) were credited together, propelling I'm Real into the Billboard Hot 100. Now, the two versions of #Beautiful are virtually the same, with the exception of the muted "a" and "f" words. Just wondering.

I was thinking the same thing today, how #Beautiful is comparable to ILT chart-wise, so far at least, and can be setting up the album in the same way. I was wondering what the second single is going to be. Are they going to go with a ballad a la WBT? Seems played out and kind of killed momentum with the last couple albums, no? You never know though, because ballads have been scoring on the charts recently. Or will they break the formula and just go with a killer song regardless of tempo. It's kind of exciting thinking of this and the possibilities. For some reason though, I still feel like ILT was a bigger hit than this one has been, not sure why.

Album cover (38,163)

Hey guys, this is just for fun. If you could change an album cover, which cover would you have preferred? For me: Mariah Carey, promo pic that had her face with the microphone (CSK 73348). Emotions, the picture that was in the insert which was in color. Music Box, the insert where the photo was a bit on the blue-ish side (Dreamlover video look). Daydream, I would've like to have the cover of the Forever single.

Moving on up (38,162)
by Stacey from USA

It's good to see #Beautiful rise to #17 this week. I was a bit worried interest was maybe starting to slow. Good to see otherwise. MC's last big era was TEOM. ILT was the lead single and rose to #16. It was a great single with great promotion that generated a lot of buzz for TEOM. WBT was released a week or so before TEOM dropped in April and really blew the album up the charts. I can see #Beautiful doing the same thing, maybe even doing better on the charts than ILT as the lead single. But, MC has to have that #2 song ready to go. With six weeks untill the release, #Beautiful has the time to set up the 2nd single which hopefully will be released right before the album drops. She could blow up the charts again. Know what I mean? Now Mariah, about that album title?

Stephen, I agree with you too (38,161)

At this point, Mariah is just another singer to them. Rihanna is their priority now, since she has been bringing the money in, mostly in single sales, but also her albums have been selling well lately. As much as I hate to say it, I underrstand this is business for them, it is about the money. Promoting Mariah the way she used to be promoted might actually cost them more than the money they would make in revenues from the album. By producing, writing, and singing her songs, Mariah is entitled to a huge chunk of the profits from the album, and since nobody is selling records like they used to, it only makes sense to taste the waters first before throwing down the house promoting a project that might or might not meet their expectations. Videos come out of the artists' pockets, and the record labels are relying more and more on social media like Facebook and Twitter. The face of promotion has morphed from posters on the subway to the internet, where the recipients and responsibles for the promotion are the artists themselves. Mariah doesn't have the backend she used to, so she'd better come out of her shell and promote at least dking short interviews.
