Yes, "Can't let go" is wonderful. One of her best songs for sure. The intro, the power and softness of her voice. I love "Can't let go". It really should have been a number one back then.

For me it's Can't Let Go. Still irks me Sony caused that song to stall at #2 by pulling it off the shelves. Such a hauntingly beautiful melody.

Mariah vs MC (102,404)
by Warren from Trinidad & Tobago
| |
|
|
Hey Jamie. My thoughts are that Mariah was just being Mariah for the first part of her career. Finding the balance between what she wanted and what she was told to do. Then as with any rebellion she went totally opposite. Personally as most lambs, I prefer Mariah performances but MC delivers much better albums. There are a few skips on her earlier work for me. And now that fame and trying to remain relevant, together with Peter Pan syndrome she's trying too hard to make music she thinks will be popular vs music that is actually good. She just wants that next hit. It's the cost of the immense success she's had, so I think that's why she leans so hard into Christmas, because she knows she will always be #1 in that genre.

Mariah vs MC (102,399)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|

Ok as a 90's fan of Mariah and a continued fan to this day, I've always struggled with Mariah and MC. Whilst I like them both I'm more swayed towards Mariah. I've always wondered what she thinks, as Mariah did she always want to break away and be MC, or now does she long to be Mariah again? I say this because she always says how controlled she was, yet now every opportunity she gets she shows pics etc of her earlier career. Watching her earlier videos she is so natural and composed something I don't think can be forced or mimicked. So I often wonder who is the the real Mariah/MC? Don't get me wrong I love both, but I often wonder what happened that made the drastic change, I don't believe it was all Tommy as he could have dressed her in all he liked, but like I said you can't mimic those natural early performances. I get people change, I've changed myself, but not so drastically like she has. I always wonder who the happiest one was. To me she looks more happy in the early Mariah days when she was more wholesome, but would love to hear your spin on things. This all came from watching ATYNAF from Proctors Theatre, which to me is one of her best performances. I'm not looking to be judgmental I'm honestly just looking for peoples spin on things as it genuinely interests me.

Definitely "Without you". This song will stay forever and still is one of her signature sounds, loved by so many people, not only fans. Then there follows with a huge distance "When you believe", "I know what you want" and "It's like that".

Like I said before this year, we will know for sure if Mariah will come back with the voice or MC will carry on with her vocal struggles and failed lip syncing. A soft retirement is imminent within 2-3 years though.

Mariah vs MC (102,400)
by Bill from the UK

Whatever happened to her voice in 1997 happened. With the loss of the ability to sing her songs well and fluidly like she did in prior years, the focus had to shift. So, musically the songs became less demanding vocally, the "I'm a songwriter first" narrative was cranked up to the max, and she became more concerned with her look than her voice. She should have said at the time what had happened to her voice and adapted her back catalogue and future songs accordingly. Instead she chose to prolong the facade with studio trickery, dubbing and lip syncing and now it's all gone too far. Those who know, know. Mariah Carey 1990-1996. 1997 onwards, someone else.

This event is going to determine very quickly what we can expect from MC this summer and fall. Will the performance show that her voice has improved? On the other hand, MC has to be getting ready to unleash multiple releases on her website in the fall. She is going to have a lot of competition this fall from Usher, Janet Jackson, Tori Kelly, and Brandy.

I have worked with and still do work with lots of much younger people, from early teens to mid-to-late 20's and they all know and can sing along to "Obsessed", even well before it had it's little semi-recent viral moment. So that's my choice, though definitely "Without You" isn't far behind though WU isn't as familiar to the young'uns.

The official Sony Music, Epic and Legacy imprints are on the CD. It even has the 30-year custom Mariah Carey imprint. The CD was delivered to me in a plastic promo sleeve with a insert picture of one of the video scenes captured. Lettering on the side is in Spanish manufactured in Brasil. Let me do some research on the web. Maybe I have been bamboozled on Ebay.

Which MC single that did not reach #1 on Billboard Hot 100 has had the best longevity since its release? I think Spotify numbers in the last few years help determine modern reception and enjoyment in the general public. Is Mariah in a Jacksons video? (102,386)
by Maxym from Here
| |
|

Hello. The music-related community I'm the most active in currently is that of Michael Jackson (and some others completely unrelated), but I came up with a cross-artist question that maybe I have more chance to get an answer to here.
I noticed that one of the dancer girls in the Jacksons "Art of Madness" video reminds me much of Mariah Carey. (At approx. 1:41.) I guess there are good chances it will simply be some totally random biased-by-video-photography-look-alike, but what makes me think that may be her is: - The album *2300 Jackson Street* was released in 1989 on Epic, which was already linked to Columbia and Sony in that time. - Mariah had already met Mottola and Columbia (since 1988 according to Wikipedia). - She was not famous yet and I guess she always like Jacksons/Jackson 5 stuff, so I could easily extrapolate something like Mottola asking "Hey the Jacksons are shooting video, do you want to be in?" - The way she stand with a head and lips at some point is very reminiscent of pictures Mariah from the early 90s to me. - I though, OK but she didn't have her hair on her front in that era, but it happened she did, has in this picture (from 1989 according to Google). Though when she appears again at approx. 02:00, there are image where I think she still looks like Mariah, and other images not has much. Hair is attached in the back which I think is also unusual.
So maybe it's completely wrong, I would to end up with a "definitely yes" or "definitely no".
