Lip sync, dubbing, bad editing (38,014) by Joe from United Kingdom
I didn't think the AI performance was terrible. To people claiming she lip sync the entire performance, not true, to those saying she sang the entire thing live, also not true. As a die hard lamb I can tell what's lipped/live. She lip sync a couple notes here and there, this is nothing new. This is one of those rare times she got caught out and then when it was live the dubbing was just generally off. If she did a complete live/raw performance and sounded off on a couple notes, she'd be crucified by the media so she can't win either way. Just my thoughts on the subject. Now I'm just ready and looking forward to seeing Mariah at GMA.

Final thought on alleged lip sync (38,012) by RadChad from United States
You believing she lipped her Idol performance is still your opinion, unless you were there playing the song back for her yourself, she comes out and say it, or her camp confirms it. Otherwise I will stick to my opinion of it being a dubbed live vocals. And this is just my opinion, even if she did lipped her performance, it's forgivable. She wouldn't be the only one to do it. Many individuals love to sit on their high horses act overtly entitled to crucify, but I'm sure you all have let someone down or not lived up to the expectations of someone or something in life. So yes it's okay to be disappointed and express that, but eventually get over it, get over your feelings because no one's perfect, we're all human, make mistakes and disappoint people sometimes. Let it go.

#Beautiful on BET's 106&Park (38,011) by T from USA
Hey everyone, it's crucial to get Mariah's new video on the BET nightly countdown. It will increase awareness and sales and make the song a bigger hit then it's already become. Mariah's lead singles always make the big countdowns, let's keep the the trend going. Voting is so easy. Thanks everybody! http://www.bet.com/shows/106-and-park/106-park-voting.html

Jenny, I totally agree. She is absolutely gorgeous. And Roc is totally handsome too. What a treat to finally see them interacting with dem puppies. Mariah loves her Jacks, so it's nice to see that they will probably follow in their mommy's footsteps as Jack aficianados. Now, if we can get a photo of Roe walking one of the doggies, I would just be tickled pink.

Raw ballads (38,009) by Anonymous from
I really hope the ballads are not MC and JD trying to make the next WBT. They tried to recreate that with varied results on E=MC2. The One from Charmbracelet is one of my all time favorite MC and JD songs. Personally, I think they are better at the mid tempo.

I'm just glad Idol is over (38,008) by jaker20 from US
I just hope MC does not come back to that cheap show, where almost everything is staged and faked for television that even Nick Cannon is complaining why his wife got involved in it. I'm sure the Cannons have learned their lesson. I hope this teaches MC a lesson not to come back to that cheap show. To me, you can put bells and whistles, make the queen of England sing there, its still cheap. I don't know anyone who listens to great music watches that show, and from what I have read here a year ago when MC was announced to judge, I'm pretty sure few here watched it before MC joined. So if you enjoyed it, good for you. lol. Hey to each his own. I didn't watch the show by the way. I only saw MC's finale performance. IMO, AI represents everything that is wrong about current state of the music industry and celebrity, but that's another discussion. Manufactured instant popularity. Oh well, I'm just glad it's over. Great singer from AI? Lol. I'll give you a couple of good singers from that show, they're hardly great. Great singers doesn't mean anything anymore in the world of AI, they brand anyone "great" to pat their relevance in the industry. Remnants of Simon Cowell's character. I find it funny that some people claim they work on audio when they clearly don't understand the difference between lip and dubbed, then present their opinion as fact. Such ego. Oh well, the stuff of internet claims. I'm just glad #Beautiful is doing well. Lol.

Re: Geronimo, Anthony, and Samuel (38,007) by nikki from usa
Thumbs up, great posts. Tickets were available for Mariah's live performance the day before AI. She sang the medley 3 times and AI could've just chosen the best one, but instead they cut and pasted all 3 like a Frankenstein's project. Their production was awful. Since there were real live fans there, you can go on YouTube and hear her voice live. They weren't supposed to bring things in there, so there's no visual, but you can hear her if you type this into YouTube's engine. A fan posted this from her live event. Mariah Carey Medley - May 2013 (live taping - take 1 of 3). This was much better than what AI showed, which is why I say I still think they're mad about that 18 million.

Raw ballads (38,006) by Geronimo from USA
I'm looking forward to this album, because it seems like Mariah is having the kind of creative streak Lauryn Hill mentioned having during the making of Miseducation. I really hope, however, that by "raw" ballads she means songs that have straight-forward melodies, unobscured by ornate production and background vocal harmonies, that easily translate into powerful live performances.

The whole debate (38,005) by Lyric from USA
What bothers me is the fact that Mariah's voice has deteriorated to the point where she has no faith in her live singing capabilities. I may be ignorant on the issue, but why does her performance need to be "dubbed" if she is in top vocal shape? This will be an unpopular opinion, but I think Mariah needs a vocal coach. She is becoming a studio vocalist and she has lost her stage presence as well. She seems so uncomfortable on stage. I should be used to Mariah's new singing style, but she never uses her vibrato or melisma any longer, so I'm forced to believe she's just not capable. I want the best for Mariah and I find myself being so critical because she is one of my favorite vocalists. I'm not asking for 90s vocal gymnastics, but I hope the new album has more than whisper vocals and strained belting. Beautiful is a refreshing song and I want to see it do really well.

Samuel (38,004) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I suggest you re-read my posts. I've never said I expected a spellbinding performance. I simply stated that Mariah should give an honest performance, and either accepts the limitations of her voice or does something about it. If you or anyone disagrees with my opinion, then I suggest you get over it and move on. It's not a statement of fact, just my opinion. If I'm talking smack, then it shouldn't be too hard for you or anyone else to accept. With regards to her recording deal, you'd have a good point if it wasn't for the cheque cut for the radio and Joseph Khan being hired for the video. IDJ definitely expect a return on that investment, as it is business after all. I agree that IDJ were very slack with MOAIA promotion. However, I think that was more to do with the fact that they didn't like the music and were still mad at Mariah for (quite rightly) abandoning E=MC2, when they had invested so much. Also, despite an industry bias with women over 40, record companies seem to invest money in Madonna and J.Lo, expecting a return. I see Mariah as no different. In any event, this is the last I'm going to say on the matter, as I've just expressed an opinion. I've not been abusive to Mariah, as suggested by others. In fact, I'd say the response from some people towards me here have more so bordered on abusive. If people think what I've said is so ridiculous, then they shouldn't get so worked up over it. Clearly, I've touched a nerve. That's all I'm going to say on the matter.

That's nine albums in 10 years and bear in mind she had to co-write and co-produce her music in addition to singing lead and background vocals. I agree as fans we want the best from our idol, but Mariah has given us more than any other singer has given her fans. Cut her some slack jeez. Sometimes I think lambs are very ungrateful at times. You go from demanding the "90s Mariah" back to criticizing her for marrying Nick Cannon. Hey, MC can retire today if she feels like. If you're not satisfied with everything she has given you and always see the need to demand for more, then you'll never be satisfied at all. At this stage in her career, the best we can do is appreciate that she still has the will to keep doing this. I see Whitney fans still mourning her death and here we are always saying what she should do "better", with some fan saying "I'm tired of defending Mariah everytime".

The truth (38,000) by Anonymous from
Ok, lets get this clear, it is not my opinion that Mariah lip sync one of her songs, it's a clear fact. And it's obvious to me that some of you can't tell, because you all are going by what you see instead of hear. It's about what you hear, not see. Maybe you all should try to close your eyes and actually listen to her instead of being lost in all that glitter and glam. It's funny because before I came here, I watched and listened to the performance and I was like, oh my goodness, she is going to get smashed by critics because she just lipped a part of the song. See I didn't "need" the internet to tell me that this mayhave been faked, I knew from my own ears. Like I said, I do not believe Mariah faked it because she couldn't do it, I think it's because it was an awkward start for her to come in on the song Beautiful. She literally divedright in and it sounded drastically different from the actual live performance. Also there was less heavy breathing in the song Beautiful. In the other performance you can hear her take deep breaths. When you listen to most cds, an engineer most of the time edits out the breathing on the track. They can literally go to the audio file and chop it out. That's what happened here. As a person that works on sound I can tell. Also I find it comical how some of you call American Idol cheap when all of the greatest singers have been on this show. It's funny. I bet all of you that call it cheap have never watched it fully. At least 1 season. So you guys say the show is cheap. I guess that makes Aretha Franklin singing on the show cheap too? She didn't lip sync. Wasn't Stevie on from one performance? Mariah Carey going on that show helped her and you all are too proud to say it. It's ok. The show had over 12 million people watching and I'm sure that will be a lot more than GMA audience. No one I know especially of my age watch GMA. No one is up that early and not everyone got a recording device. I'm not being mean, I'm being truthful. The only time I have ever accepted a fake performance was when Beyonce performed her song called Get Me Bodied and she was dancing in extra high heels real fast. Singing the same time would have been impossible. Mariah on the other hand was just standing still. Mariah should have known better than to sing fake after seeing Beyonce fake the national Anthem and how they dogged her. When I heard that, I was happy, because I knew for sure that Mariah wasn't going to lip sync anymore, because of the now close watch. I guess I was wrong.

Well said. It's really sad that fans can't express their opinions and simply leave it at that. Know what I mean? Edward, thank you for your kind words. I always enjoy your posts too. And BTW, you're going to find fans at any artist messageboards who dislike a song, video, etc. MC's boards are no different. Anyway, glad to see Beautiful climbing the charts. Hopefully the GMA performance is spot on and helps the song even more.

Stephen and Stacey (37,996) by S from England
No Stephen, I'm not missing anything, certainly not in this instance. The aim of my previous posts exemplified the fact that a lot of fans have this sense of "entitlement"' to receive these incredible spellbinding performances which in reality have not been achieved by her since the year 2004 (subjectively). So your argument to state that the point of a record deal means the artist is obliged to sell "a lot" is flawed. Many artists nowadays do not have significant singing abilities and some do not even sell a lot. Vintage artists like Mariah are not expected by their labels to prove themselves further with big sellers, partly due to age which often translates to them not being the labels main focus anymore. Evidence of them not promoting her last two albums are so evident you'd have to be blind not to realize, should we discuss the promo of Memoirs compared to Rihanna's Rater R? Whether or not record deals are for making profit or not, that should not interfere with her own personal stage attributes and qualities. I'm well aware that many are not familiar with her vintage material, but that does not stop here from being the biggest selling female recording artist of the Nielsen SoundScan era. At the end of the day Stephen, I'm sure if she could give us those spellbinding performances she would. We do not know the woman on a personal level, so I'm not going to assume that she should "give" us this type of performance that some request. May I also add, I feel that as Mariah fans, we actaully should comment on her performances, but I don't know if anyone else feels like this, but it's just irritating to see fans act as if they know her personally or the damage that she has sustained on her voice. Just enjoy and appreciate her for what she is and what she has done a little more. If I was here and saw all these messages, I'd just feel a bit tired and hopeless that I see soo much negativity on what I can offer now, despite all I have given to you all before, if you know what I mean? Lol.

Edward, TJ (37,995) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I remember those days. For some reason, even though I am based in the UK, I think I was of the US opinion on those arguments. Looking back, that was actually hilarious. Was it Maria or Mary from the UK? It would be cool if she returned lol.

TJ, #Beautiful on the charts (37,992) by Edward from USA
TJ, I remember you were one of the UK gang , thank heavens you survived the inquisition. I also miss Maria from the UK, she was always on point. She knew she loved Maria and her music, but she also wanted quality and expressed it. As for #Beautiful, it has been on the top 20 on iTunes, it goes up and down, but it has been lingering mostly in the top 16. As of now it's sitting #Beautifully at no. 19. I'll contact you on WhatsApp right after the GMA show to give you details.

A proud fool (37,991) by Anthony Early from Wales
I truly believe Mariah sang live on AI and to those who have expressed disbelief and annoyance at those few who "dare" to criticise Mariah I say: good for you. It's popular these days to be a critic, a hyper analyst and a nay-sayer and to those who don't board the popularist train, I applaud you. As someone else said, Whitney, as talented as she was, broke down vocally before she died, but Mariah, a healthy and active idol of 23 years, is not standing down and is continuing to defy those who doubt her. It's a victory for the true fans, and anyone else, I'll see you in 2102. God bless.

Regards and respect (37,987) by RadChad from United States
Okay, so everyone has a right to express their honest opinion, be it good or bad. I understand (as a fan since 1990) I'm critical or her voice and presentation as well, but I'm saying there's a line that definitely needs to be drawn. At the end of the day we're all suppose to have a certain level of respect for Mariah, because whether you feel she still needs to prove herself to the general public or not, she has already proven herself to us. If you call yourself a true fan apart of that is maintaining a certain level of regards, because in reality she can scrap this album tomorrow and still go down in history as one of the best that ever did it regardless (shot voice, lipping dubbing whatever). Out of all the major fan bases I've run across, I haven't quite witness the level of disregard I've witness on this board. I mean Whitney Houston could've sounded like a bull frog on stage and her fans would still regard her as the best who ever did it regardless of how and why her voice is shot, but here we have people saying the "suppose to be the voice" or "so called voice" really fan? Nicki Minaj fans held her down whether she was wrong as two left shoes or not, they were still in her corner. Yet here you have people siding with Nicki over MC . Beyonce fans so on and so forth. So don't be overly defensive when a fellow fan pull your coat tail to say "hey, alright now, you're going a bit too far", because that's what's gonna happen when you get wreck-less with your delivery. There is a way to express your true feelings on here without it coming across as borderline disrespectful and disparaging. Sometimes you really need to check yourself and remember who you are talking about. Because, it really becomes a shame when the general public appears to have more respect and regards for you than you own fans.
