Mariah's medley performance (37,884) by Gilbert from USA
I have to say I am so looking forward to see how see does this. The only reason I'd love to see this is because 1. we haven't heard some of these #1's in a very good while. 2. It's a different style of performance. I've been to quite a few concerts and sometimes I've always been like... "Gee it's the same choice of songs all the time." So this for me as a fan of 18 years I'm really looking forward to this little mix. You seen one concert, you've seen them all is how I see it. Though I love Mariah, I will still go to see her live when she is in my area.

Pre-recording (37,883) by Lee from UK
This smells very fishy to me. I know they are pre-recording Keith's performance too, but it sounds to me like a lot of over-dubbing and post production vocals may be added in. I hope I'm wrong. If I'm right then at least it should sound like it was a perfect performance.

If you feel old at 28, I don't want to say how old I am. Lmao. I've been a Mariah fan literally since she started with VOL. Yep, I don't like every single thing she does, or every decision she makes, but I don't think that's required to respect, admire, experience joy, and be inspired by an artist. Mariah will always be my favorite artist, hands down (and I like many, so that's saying a lot). I feel drawn to not just her music, but also who she is as a person. I just think attempting to "measure" fandom is futile. All it does is divide people, and there is absolutely no point in that. If I disagree with something MC does, it doesn't mean I love her less, it just means we're individuals with different views on certain things. At the end of the day, I love Mariah, it's why I'm here, and it's why we all can get passionate about our opinions - no matter what they are - because we're all invested in her. Disagreeing sometimes with a song, video or outfit occasionally does not mean people hate Mariah. This would hardly be a discussion forum, if everyone said the same thing, and thought the same way.

Stacey (37,881) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I think we understand each other because we are both quite reasonable when expressing our opinions. I do question the maturity of some people when they can't get their head around the notion of a constructive criticism. I think you and I both love Mariah, but we are not blinded by it. We know what she's capable of, having been present in the 90s (I feel so old, I'm only 28 lol), so we won't except low standards from her. There's nothing wrong with expecting the best from the greatness that is Mariah. As I've said before though, I do feel #Beautiful is a return to form for Mariah. Great production and a gorgeous melody. Sorry, had to chuck that in there lol. I heard it on radio the gym this week and I haven't heard Mariah on radio in the UK since TMB. Very please for Mariah.

Examiner (37,880) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Who cares if promotion was bought for one day, if it weren't for the fact MC was involved - this article wouldn't have even gotten published. That's the thing that bugs me. It's called paid advertizing like they used to do with TV spots campaigns for album promo. It's only because MC is the most successful female vocalist that they are trying to make it seem as though this is new in the industry. It's not, and frankly I was happy to see IDJ do their job and back Mariah. They have not been promoting her well for a long time. Singles need momentum, if Beautiful didn't get exposure, people would not request it, period. If the public didn't like Beautiful the song would not continue to be being well liked/requested. Yeah it has fallen since opening day, but it's holding its own. The article is useless. The Examiner saw a chance to use Mariah as a scape goat. *Shocking* lol.

They are real deal MC haters. They even called the 29-country #1 spot of #Beautiful false.

Um, the radio deal was promo (37,878) by jaker20 from US
I lol at the haters who try and discredit MC success. MC's impact is getting haters come out of woodwork. Lol. The Examiner is a first class MC hater. The truth is the promo deal was one day, it fell the following week as expected because of the huge clear channel spins on first day. But it's now slaying radio charts on it's own, because people are requesting it, which means the promo worked. And why not? It's a great song, got great reviews, even non-fans are loving it. So one station didn't spin it again as opposed to so many others which are. Shocking. Lol. Such ethics nonsense this article is claiming, ethics in question is why they're up MC's behind all the time. Why not list all artists who had done similar deals? Ther's not enough space in this forum for me to type them all. So others can play the game and MC can't? So lame, some of you actually get influenced by this. Are you going to complain a studio is paying tv to air their movie trailers? Same concept. Hello, news flash, apparently radio is where singers promote their songs. Such new information. Billboard is the one that's at fault with their formula, but you can't blame them, because there's no such thing as perfect formula. Haters are just scared by MC's back, they can't believe MC's slaying again after all these yeas. I hope MC does another round of clear channel deals just to show them she doesn't give a rats. How she wants to promote a song is her choice.

Examiner (37,877) by enwar00 from usa
I don't believe the hype. Although I'm only familiar with Examiner based on articles where they've mostly talked smack about her that I've seen on this site, it seems like tabloid fare. She's not the only artist that's received airplay with these top of the hour radio promos. Other big artists like Justin Timberlake and Madonna had similar promos with recent singles. It serves its purpose. As far as discounting singles back in the day to 49 cents, I do remember that, lucky me. Guess what, it was so not just her singles that were discounted. Plenty other artists did as well. I'm assuming record companies decided all that, not the artist. Lame article.

A fan who was at the AI performance taping tweeted (37,876) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
A fan who was at the AI performance taping tweeted that the medley of hits is VOL, MIH, My All, WBT, and Beautiful. I had a really strong feeling she would do Beautiful. I an't wait until tomorrow.

The bigger picture (37,875) by RadChad from United States
Okay, so some of us were rightfully disappointed in the video (me being one of them). However I will say, though MC has her share of risqué moments, she's still pretty tame/tasteful compared other female artist. In "Dance For You" an early pregnant Beyonce wore a dress that automatically showed her panties as she danced all over a guy that wasn't her husband. In Not Myself Tonight a married Christina Aguilera stripped down to barely there lingerie and straddle/gyrated all over a guy in bed. A still legally married Toni Braxton made out with Trey Songz on an award show stage in front of her then husband and father of her kids. So I know we all have way higher standards for our queen, but flashing her panties 100 feet away from Miguel seems innocent when we look at the big picture.

#Beautiful airplay, clear channels (37,873) by Edward from USA
At least I am happy that #Beautiful debuted based on the non clear channel stations airplay, since the first day airplay was subtracted from the total audience impressions for the Billboard week final count down. I am pretty sure she's not the only one who has made this type of deals. It was more like a promotional thing to bring attention to the song. Now we can see the natural progression of the single on the charts. It is weird though people talk about radio airplay, but if it wasn't for the Internet, I wouldn't know what is on the radio, nobody seems to listen to it anymore, I live in NYC and I remember people blasting TEOM, Beyonce and Rihanna back then, but not anymore. I personally bought the single once, and I stream the video at least once a day on Vevo, now it's time for Mariah to show real support for #Beautiful. I hope she doesn't pull an E=MC2 on this album.

Randy (37,872) by Will from England
Not really sure I'd agree with that "I want MC to come out with a song that everyone, not just lambs, support". The general public seem to be responding to the song. Let's take the UK for instance. The song has been doing very well on the iTunes Chart which for Mariah, unless it's a Christmas song, is unusual. Especially when it's been very consistent and remaining in the 20s on that chart without nearly any promotion. Now I have to believe that it's not just the lambs who are supporting that song alone, since when it is, it drops down the charts very quickly and doesn't hang around for very long. The song debuted at 24 on Billboard, and that at least tells me that it's got a strong sales, along with the radio play naturally, especially when it's still high on the iTunes US charts. Non-lambs I think are responding to the song. This doesn't feel like Obsessed or anything like that this time. People are noticing the song.

Well (37,871) by Lee from USA
According to Mediabase, the spins are going up by 1000 per days on the other non-Clear Channel stations. The Examiner is nothing but some haters. In regards to her being sexy, the reason that she is worth $500 million is that she combines sex appeal and talent. Nine of the top ten richest women in entertainment are sexy as hell. She did not make the rules, so she should not be punished for following them.

Edward (37,870) by Will from England
I think that article is just a lot of hot air. So one channel hasn't played the song on the day that article was published. And? Looking at the numbers, I'd say that the song is doing ok a week after the mass radio deal, without that one radio station. The article says "several believe that Billboard is being dishonest in charting the song based on those pay-per-play deals", and I'd like to know exactly how many people counts as "several". This article is just using Mariah to make their point, when they could have used any other artist who have made these deals. Had #Beautiful not been a big a hit as it was, I highly doubt that article would have been written, or if it had, as I mentioned above, another name would have been used. I'm afraid I can't speak on the single prices. You were also spot on about the Elton John reference and Mariah trying to remain as current as possible.

Mariah airplay (37,869) by Randy from USA
Airplay and sales have been manipulated for a long time and not just MC. However, I am let down that IDJ made a deal for radio airplay. One of the reasons MC is not an icon to most regular people is because her fans push her songs to #1, not the general public, in my opinion. This is why I gained another whole layer of respect for the webmaster when he refused to let a link be posted that would gain #Beautiful streaming views. I remember when TGIFY came out in stores. The Make It Last Forever Remix was sold out so that was a #1 based on mostly sales and not airplay. No one but us knows that song. I want MC to come out with a song that everyone, not just lambs, support. One that gets airplay because people like it. #Beautiful doesn't cut it and I knew it the first time I heard it. I still believe IDJ has something up their sleeve. There's a lot of time left because we don't have an album title or release date yet. Last thought: I don't know why people are up in arms about airplay and why Billboard still counts it as much as it does in its tabulations. No one listens to the radio anymore.

#Beautiful (37,868) by Jay from USA
I don't understand why people make a big deal of Clear Chanel stations playing Mariah's song every hour on the hour. It's how people get heard nowadays. Yes, to the fans Mariah will always be classic and better than anyone out there. But with just our help she can't make another number one or put a dent in the charts. If that was the case, Mariah would've had more than 18 number ones. No matter how wonderful and talented we know she is, the general public needs a reminder. Which is probably why she doing a medley of songs on AI. "Let me take a minute here and remind you basics why I am who I am."

Edward / promotion (37,867) by RibbonB from USA
Well, people are always whining about promotion, so at least IDJ is putting it's full weight behind promoting this record. It's a different time and it has been since 2008. It is the nature of the industry. Deals almost have to be made to get airplay, especially where R&B is concerned and this has been going on for the last 5 plus years now. And deals in general are not uncommon. Miguel's Adorn is a much better song than Beautiful, yet it didn't chart as well as Beautiful has even at this point.

#Beautiful airplay, a little concerned (37,866) by Edward from USA
It is so sad that Mariah had to use those clear channel stations to generate buzz so that other stations could play #Beautiful. Now they are making it seem as if she basically paid for payola since most of those stations are not playing the song anymore. I hear people everyday longing for good music, and when they have it, radio won't give it a chance. It's what Elton John said in an interview a long time ago: It is difficult for older artist to get any airplay these days. I also understand now why Mariah is always trying to look sexy and youthful, it is too much pressure. I hope #Beautiful at least cracks the top 10, and that Mariah have some good remixes for the song under her skirt, I mean, her sleeve . What do you guys think?

Number 24 (37,865) by Will from England
Yay, for a good debut on Billboard. It's a good starting point for the song, despite limited promo and going only off by radio play (congrats for the #1 on that chart) and sales alone. She, hopefully, will be performing the song on Idol, plus GMA next week, it should go up in the charts. Less songs to jump over to #1. I never expected a number 1 debut.

Why? (37,864) by George Golden from UK
After releasing one of her best lead singles ever, Mariah had to spoil it with the video. The songs popularity just went downhill after the video came out. Come on Mariah, why? In this day of Vevo, your music video should be interesting, not a striptease. I am really tired of having to defend her all the time when she comes across this way. You are a classy lady with millions of record sales. It's time to finetune the image. It is getting really tired at this piont. Great songs like IBLULT, HATEU and a lot of your other songs were ruined by their videos. The world fell in love with you because of your voice, not your body. Beautiful had the potential to be a number one song for her, but I don't see this happening now with this kind of video.

Stephen (37,862) by Stacey from USA
Well said. Haha, I agree a medley would be nice, maybe adding just her part of Beautiful to the mix. I think she should do a medley of older and newer more recent hits. Anyway, I'm just glad she is performing on the show. BTW: Maybe I throw folks off because I am so confident in my opinions. You are too. Maybe that's why we get along.

Stacey (37,861) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I totally agree. Well said on all counts. On a more positive note, I can't wait to see Mariah perform on AI this week. I think she should defo do a medley of her hits, to remind people why she's been so popular, and to remind people why they should re-invest time and money her. I think she will sing beautiful with the contestants or just by herself. I feel that by adding Beautiful into the mix, she's saying this song is on a par with her previous music (whether you agree or not lol ). I think its a rare opportunity for Mariah to perform a few of her big hits to a very large TV audience. It's a good reminder of her legacy, and will help build hype for the new album I think. I feel like we haven't seen her sing music on TV in ages lol, even though that's not really the case.

MC videos for this era (37,860) by jaker20 from US
I want MC to work with world-class video directors, like newcomers who have new ideas who's going to push her. Remember "I Still Believe"? I don't particularly like the video, but it's a big production, and the video itself was a big hit even though the song wasn't. I want her to go back to those concept videos, like Honey, Heartbreaker, Through The Rain, etc. But it has to be directed by a new and talented director. No more Brett Ratner or Nick Cannon, at least for this era. What do you think?

Idol duet (37,859) by jaker20 from US
Stacey/Nikki, remember Ryan said there's a surprise, so anything can happen, this is MC we're talking here. Lol. Miguel is probably out of the question, but a duet with any Idol present or past contestant is certainly possible. They did a lot. I see absolutely no point of a medley, but that at least I guess is exposure. But there's still no leak about song list, so I am holding my breath for a #Beautiful performance, because the promo/exposure of the finale is huge, that's why JLo and other stars booked it.

Re: Dionne005. Jaker, single (37,857) by nikki from usa
005, you're wrong, because I do. I thought they looked comfy, and I can she see the sales for Fruit of the Loom skyrocketing. It could just be because I'm in Florida, the land of the cougars where divorcees in their 40's are abundant, but Mariah is a freaking hero down here. Jaker, I actually thought maybe she's doing the medley because Miguel won't be there. She can't do a duet by herself, so a medley is a good way for her to do her half and reintroduce her classic hits to a newer generation. I'm kinda hoping the medley isn't previous hits, but teasers of her album coming out. That would be hot. As far as the single goes, Monday seems to be a promo that immediately dropped off by Tuesday. But, it has been steadily climbing ever since, so it is gaining in popularity.
