Mariah's declining success (37,363)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
Maybe we lambs have to se our Mariah going through a significant decline in success, pretty much all over the world. It sees nothing she does, lateley, really has an impact. I am really disapointed how the fans seem to have abonded Mariah. Will, no matter how Almost Home will perform on the charts, I like it. But I have to agree with some of you, Mariah's dress on Idol is just redicoulus. But I can hear her say, "that's festive".

Soundtrack album (37,362)
by Will from England
| |
|
|
It's not that strange. Adele's "Skyfall" isn't included on the official soundtrack album and was just the single version and look how successful it was without it being on there. I've also taken a look at the soundtrack and it's just the instrumentals, which is exactly what I thought it would be. Would I be right in saying that the way a soundtrack album is handled is different to a regular studio album? Unless the movie is a musical, in which case it is not, then only the instrumentals would be on the album, but no vocally sung songs. The same went for Skyfall's soundtrack album. They're mainly made up of the background music. Therefore, the main soundtrack song would be released separately from the album, since no other songs are going to be released from the main album. Mariah has only done one main soundtrack song (As far as I'm aware. I'm excluding "Where Are You Christmas?" and "Glitter". "WAYC?" because she did not sing it and 'Glitter because in essence, it was a musical movi,e so it was inevitable that there would be vocals on the album.) in her career, so we've never had this before.

Almost Home/boobs boobs boobs (37,361)
by Jamie from UK

The video is simple and divalicious, they pretty much gave everything away in the previews. But I hope more people will find out about the song; I'm wishing it the best on the charts. As for Mariah's boobies on Idol, they look magnificent lol. She's not hurting anyone by showing them off. I say if Nicki can do her crazy wigs, let Mariah work those boobs.

All her clothes are driving me insane. At first I was like, whatever. Now it's like I feel as if I have to be forced to watch her breast everytime I watch her lately. Why can't I just watch what she does without seeing the breast? If I wanted to look at breast, I'll just go look at my own. I wish the camera would zoom in on her face, so we don't have to see everything.

200,000 views in 1 day (37,359)

The video of Almost Home managed to collect 200,000 views in just one day. If this momentum is consistent, then the song has potential to climb the Billboard Hot 100 next week.

Almost Home (37,358)
by Stacey from USA

The video is nice, what you'd expect from a movie song? What I don't get is why the song doesn't immediately play right when the credits start or soon after. Beauty & The Beast has an instrumental introduction before playing the song with Celine Dion. Same goes with Disney's Aladdin. Strange. And the song not being included on the soundtrack? Now that's odd. Is the song going to be included on Mariah's new album? Celine Dion did that with My Heart Will Go On, it was on the soundtrack and her album.

Almost Home is not on the Oz soundtrack album (37,355)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
The soundtrack for the movie is already out on Amazon and iTunes, and while going through the track listing, I almost choked when I realized that "Almost Home" is not part of the soundtrack album. What's happening here? I saw the movie today and "Almost Home" played at the very end of the credits, when it was only a few people left in the theater. I thought by Ryan Seacrest mentioning the song on AI, it would climb up on iTunes, but it didn't do anything. At this point I'm really frustrated and disappointed.

Classy. I watched it over and over again, and discovering so many details each time. Mariah is immaculate. It's almost 3am here in Kuala Lumpur. I'll retire for the night with the song in my head and perhaps I'll be transpored to the land of Oz in my dreams. Goodnight world.

Almost Home video (37,353)
by John from USA
| |

I just saw the full video. I have to say, I really love it. The scenes from the movie were synced up very well with the song, and I love how classy and elegant (finally) she looked. I hope this song at least becomes at strong buzz single (top 20-ish), if not her 19th #1. It's the best pop single she's put out in a long time, and is catchy as hell. First song since TEOM that didn't have to go through a "growing on me" phase. Please Mariah, get out there and promote like it's 1990 or 2005 lol.

Mariah's AI wardrobe (37,352)

You know I love Mariah dearly. I always will, but last nights wardrobe was really out there. I was like wow, is this show about AI or Mariah's cleavage? I just don't understand her wardrobes sometimes. She can be so sexy without having to show off her goodies.

I've seen Oz last night. I won't say I loved it and I won't say I hated it. I will say that most likely I won't watch it again. So movie ends, and I thought maybe just maybe a clip would be played during the movie. Nada, but at the end I heard the instrumental, but didn't hear her sing. I didn't stay to wait since I already know the song and heard it. I would say Oz reminded me of Alice In Wonderland with Johnny Depp.

Almost Home promo (37,348)
by JBfly from USA
| |
|
|
Ok, so I just watch Oz the Great and Powerful. It's different. I know it's a prequal to The Wizard of Oz. I recommend it to everyone. Now for the song. I was kinda disappointed that the song didn't play until close to the end of the credit. I was expecting it to play the minute the credits rolled. Since the song was played close to the end, not a lot of people got to hear the song thus rendering it to be exposed more to the public. And did anyone else notice that the song had different version than what they released? The beginning part didn't have "hey, hey, hey, you're almost home". I would like to hear the full soundtrack version. As for it being promoted at Idol. I think the only promotion it got was Thursday's top 10 reveal. They played a portion of the song and Ryan Seacrest mentioned that that's Mariah's new song from the Oz movie. I was hoping she would've performed it instead of it just being played. All in all I still love the song. It's on constant repeat in my car and my iPod when I'm at work. I'm hoping it'll get more promotion and attention.

Mariah's success in Europe (37,347)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
Mariah has never been as popular as Beyonce and Rihanna or Madonna in Europe. She was really popular with "I'll be there" and "Without you", besides that, she is a top 20 artist. She has one album on the list of the 100 best selling albums of the 90s in the UK, and that's Music Box. But in Japan though, the country no one really wants to include, Mariah has 4 albums in the top ten list of the best selling foreign artists. In Norway, where I am from, she really havent been big since Music Box, though "All I want for Christmas" is a hit every year. I really hope "Almost home" will do better when the video is released, I'm starving for a Mariah hit.

Nikki, Mariah was massive in Europe in the 90s. She wouldn't have been able to sell so much worldwide had she not. From 93 through to 98, she was one of the biggest female sellers in the UK.

Mariah live on Idol (37,345)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
Mathew, I think you're going to have to prepare to get your scared-y cat on, because according to Idol and Disney, Mariah is going to promote the song by singing it live on Idol. She could always change up the song to make it easier for a live showing, you never know. But, MC is a professional and I'm sure she'll make it fabulous. No offense to TJ, but I believe even during the height of her fame, Mariah wasn't ever really "big" over in Europe. Was she? After America, I think Asia is next in line for being Mariah crazy and she fairs well even in Australia. As far as Europe goes, she's sold millions but is more of a top 20 artist, isn't she? Obviously, I'm not from there, but I recall whenever looking for stats back in the day from singles, cds, and concerts, she seems to sell the least over in Europe on average. Ironically, over the past few years, she's been at her least successful worldwide, yet over in Brazil she blew up huge.

I have my 3 favorites, Kree, Angie, and well at the time I can't think of the third one but she sang the WH song. I just wanted to point out something and just wanted to see if anyone else had the same reaction. Did Nicki look like she was in a bad mood? Just her whole expression during the beginning of the show just looked like she didn't want to be there. I know that look because I feel the same here at my job sometimes lol.

TJ, Fly Like a Bird, American Idol ratings (37,343)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I can't wait to see what's going to happen with "Almost Home" once the movie is released. TJ, Eric changed the word bird for birth on my last post . Thank God I didn't say The Emancipation of Momo . As for American Idol, I said it before they started this season, that show is a sinking ship, ratings have been going down steadily ever since they started broadcasting on January. The ratings are being the same as The X Factor, so I give AI another season if they want to retire the show with some dignity. Mariah, like Britney, will be too expensive for the next season budget of AI based on current ratings. I definitely know Mariah's jumping off that ship once this season is over. I hope she gets to promote her new album a lot on the show, but it's going to take a little bit more than that. Randy'd better start working on how he's going to bring Mariah to the next level. Mariah will probably put her new single very soon, third time's a charm. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. For some reason, it seems to be that taking too much time off between albums when you're not hot at the moment is not a good idea, look what happened to Boyz II Men. They took time off, and all these young boy bands came in and it was over for them.

I don't think how many likes someone has on Facebook is something to be concerned about. Doesn't diminish Mariah's place in history. No one will ever come close to 200 million records sold. Plus, not everyone does Facebook, Twitter, etc. I don't have a Twitter account, yet I post here and support MC by buying her music.

Edward/TEOM (37,341)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
Great music and great promotion helped TEOM establish itself as the top selling album of 2005. After CB, many people were wondering if MC still had "it" in her to produce great music. I'm not knocking CB as I think it was crucial step in Mariah's comeback. I myself wondered if MC was heading toward a more whisper/softer sound and away from the middle of the road vocal that had proven so successful. I remember I first heard clips of all the songs and I about fell off my chair. I couldn't contain my excitement. The album sounded so much like Daydream, a hugely popular album (ironically released 10 years earlier). Mariah is at her best when she appeals to wider fanbase, meaning she gave some the ballads (Mine Again, IWYK, Circles, WBT, Joyride), others the hip-hop songs (TTF, SS, O&O, ILT), to those who didn't care for the hip-hop stuff, she gave us songs with more R&B/Pop mixes (SIO, GYN), etc. That album much like Daydream gave every person something to like. She is at her best when she doesn't focus on one paticular genre or type of vocals. That's why I think TEOM was so successful. I love that album tons.

That's funny. Great minds think alike. Most people here know I don't care for many of her rap collabos, especially when the song is remixed for a edgier move toward hip-hop. So I especially love when MC gives fans like myself a no rap version that sounds hot R&B but doesn't turn me off with all the rapping. Let the fans of the rappers have that version and me get just no rap version. My All/Stay Awhile and ABMB are probably my two favorite slow R&B remixes. Make It Last is also a great one too.

About Beyonce, Rihanna and Mariah (37,339)
by TJ from Norway
| |
|
|
At the moment, I guess that Beyonce and Rihanna would make it better on tour (in Europe) than Mariah. Mariah was the biggest star in 93-96, even if she had not sold as much as Whitney or Madonna. It's about who is the most popular at the moment. I guess that Adele is more popular as well. Who cares?
