Hope Street (37,114)

What an interesting title, if it is a confirmed song title. In terms of song names, as far as I'm concerned, it's up there with The Roof and Petals, as in song titles that make you wonder what on earth they could be about. Very excited by this news.

I'm looking forward to new single (37,113)

I just read the article. If true, and "Hope Street" is the choice, I have a good feeling. I was pleased to read the quote about being tired of trying to please the teenage audience, because I've felt for a while trying to do that is counterproductive to the music.

I can't wait to hear her new single. I think she is doing a very good job on Idol. She is having a very "mature" vibe which I really like. Looking like her is just amazing, she is gorgeous.

I really agree on your assessment of Mariah's judging. I'll be honest. I think AI as a platform can be pretty cheesy at times, but there's no denying some talented people have come out of it. I've seen several articles praising her ability to balance constructive criticism and poise and I have to agree. I think she's done a great job and IMHO it is obvious she remembers what it feels like to dream about earning a recording contract and truly cares about the people hoping for a shot. As for the Nicki/Mariah thing. I really don't think it is fake. I've watched both full episodes and I've tried to be as objective as possible when I watch. I understand that as a MC fan some might feel I simply have a bias. Honestly, it seems to me Nicki is extremely insecure and just wants to be liked by everyone. She speaks first 98% of the time for example, because she wants acceptance from the contestants, the audience etc. I think she really wants to prove herself and feels intimidated. There were definitely several obvious digs toward Mariah throughout. I'm wanting to hear someone sing one of MC's songs in a less than flattering way "all day". Saying someone had a better range than Mariah when the person clearly wasn't considered a strong audition. Becoming clearly irritated when Mariah had a moment with a contestant who shares her uncommon name, to name a few. I hope it lessens as the season goes on. I'm not saying by any means Mariah is perfect. I get that not everyone likes Mariah or understands her humour or flair for the dramatic. I just don't feel MC was taking intentional digs at her in the same way.

American Idol / Mariah (37,109)

I was only able to catch the last 45 mins of the season premiere. I thought Mariah did a great job. TV Guide gave her the best review too. Very positive. As TV Guide put it, MC "skillfully treads the line between being friendly and respectful to the contestants, while at the same time offering them constructive feedback about their talents or lack thereof". I totally agree. You could totally tell MC was genuinely interested in the contestants. I'm not sure if the feud is a total sham. There were a few times where Minaj threw some jabs and Mariah and you could see MC look at her like "what the crap is your problem?" We'll see how the season plays out. You can only fake a feud for so long, lol.

AI first impressions (37,108)

I'm loving to see MCC on Idol. She is absolutely what the show needed. Some say the bikery between her and Nicki overshadows the show, I don't agree. I'm pleasently surprised by Nicki also. Altough I still believe she shouldn't be on it because of her posture, I think Nicki is not so bad. Mariah is so nurturing towards the contestants, but still says things as they are and I love it. The one thing I don't like is how Nicki is so jealus of Mariah. Everytime a contestant says he/she was influenced by Mimi, we can see Nicki roll her eyes out.

Idol drama (37,107)
by PieterLamb from Indonesia

Judging from the season premier of Idol, think all of those rumored feud between our Mariah with Nicki is spicy part of this reality show. It's all dramas. Like early seasons, between Cowell and Seacrest. Urban is too soft for those kind of dramas. That's my opinon. Anyway, it's good to see our Mariah widely mentioned on all medias across the country.

A.I. (37,106)
by Jenny from South Africa

I think maybe the fans who were against MC joining Idol were right after all. I was happy when I heard she was joining but she and Nicki both seem to be getting a lot of criticism in the press over it. It hasn't started in South Africa yet, so I've only seen a few short clips on YouTube. Hopefully after the episode with the big blow up, they will both stop arguing so much and making themselves look immature in the eyes of the press and the public. People do seem to enjoy Mariah more when she focuses on the contestants and not on Nicki. I hate that the press is using their fights to make Mariah seem egotistical and petty. And I'm just talking about the negative press I've been reading, because like I said, I haven't actually seen the full shows for myself. For all I know, the press could just be exaggerating things to make her look bad as usual. And they are making Nicki look bad too, so at least it's not a one sided thing.

Having watched the first 2 episodes, I'm pretty sure that the feud is a total fake, just for the sake of rating. However, I love the show, it's very entertaining.

I don't know if it's to early to knock on wood, but Niki is actually good for the show. I get it now. I think she compliments the show as much as Mariah and I love the way they act. Also I think Niki has good judgement so far. I still believe that they are acting. And they are doing a great job at it. I'm very entertained. Have you guys started watching Real Husbands of Hollywood? Awesome show and Nick is in it.

Everytime I Close My Eyes, AI, new album (37,103)
by Ryan from the Philippines

I was browsing my old love songs playlist today and I found EICME in it. I have always been a fan of this song and this showed how good she is in doing background vocals. Not to mention she started out as a back up singer before. And I always have goosebumps everytime I hear that belting part she did at the bridge. BTW, I saw the 2-hour Idol premier last night and Mariah looked amazing, as always, and I liked the way she delivered her comments. It was subtle and sweet at times. Now AI has started, so when will we get to hear the first single?

Left side (37,101)
by Jamie from UK

I can see some photos on the right of this page focusing more on her left side than right. As for the video, I don't know. She said herself she doesn't care about that anymore, but the video suggests otherwise. If she had something to hide, isn't it obvious turning your head every 5 seconds is counterproductive?

Mariah's left side (37,100)
by Jay from USA
| |
|
|
I remeber there was a photograph of her wedding (to Tommy) that she was caught on the left side as she walked down the aisle. I wouldn't say she looked ugly, she did look a little different. The thing I noticed was that her teeth on that side weren't straight, for lack of a better word. I've seen other photos where her teeth on the left side show a difference. Maybe that's what "someone" told her was her flaw and that's why she tries to hide it. I'm not sure if she has tried to hide it lately, because she has had that hairstyle (where her hair is up) before. I wonder if she was just trying to compensate for where she was standing as opposed to "hidding her left side" (in reference to that Idol video). And after writing all this, I have come to the conclusion that the media has nothing left to report about Mariah other than negative aspects, because now they are rehashing old reports. Either way, I guess it keeps her in the media spotlight. Although I wish they would write about the positive aspects of her career and life. I can't wait to see her on AI tonight.

Think about the majority of photoshoots she has done for magazines, album covers, single covers, TV interviews etc. One thing they have in common? They all feature her right side (the only exception being the cover of Emotions). Even the candid shots on the dem babies website feature nothing else. I think it's the culmination of having someone say "your left side doesn't look right" (or something to that effect), and then having all your photos done on the right, may have just enforced that. Even some of her hair styles are done so her right side is shown. Can anyone think of any time when she was willingly videoed/photographed from the left? Red carpet moments don't count.

With all the Idol press, would now not be the time to announce the new album title, single and release date? I don't care much for the Mariah Carey the celebrity, TV personality, perfumes etc. I want the singer/songwriter with a heartbreaking album and the big vocals.

Left side of the face article/Mariah's vanity (37,095)
by PJW from The U.K.
| |
|
|
Contrary to Paul's thoughts, I felt the article was spot on. Mariah, although beautiful, is quite insecure with her physical and so in turn quite vain. On one hand she's obviously very comfortable in her femininity and very openly embraces her (numerous) great assets, but I think she feels under massive pressure to always look "incredible" and that manifests in her egocentric behaviour in that video. I first saw it the day it came out. I couldn't believe what I was watching. The posing when singing, the photoshoots, the reclining, the sexy outfits I can handle and actually love. No matter what she looks like on screen, if you've seen Mariah in real life you always remember how physically stunning she is in person. But this was something else and although it's not her fault, it's going too far now and could damage her image in a time when she's looking to boost it.

Article about the left side of Mariah's face (37,094)
by Paul from Usa
| |
|
|
It doesn't sound well written for from a reputable source. I think most people have a better side of their face, why not Mariah Carey? In the video attached below the article, it seems she's bored, or tired, perhaps overworked, not like she's trying to disguise her left side. Just my opinion. Good to see Mariah and Nicki getting along. Happy to see the premier of A.I . tomorrow. I'm only tuning in to see Mariah.

Hey guys. Is Mariah putting on weight or is it just me? At the press conference she looked a little bigger - which is fine, but I just want to see if i'm the only person seeing this. By the way, I love how she controlled the audience in the press conference. She was just like "I'm gonna wait", just like teachers.

I can't name only one album, but "Mariah Carey", "Emotions" and "Music Box" are my favorite albums. There are some I don't like that much, as Rainbow, CB and Merry Christmas II You. There are some songs I like from the albums, like Heartbreaker remix and My Saving Grace. I think I will have a new "project" going on for the next weeks. I will listen to one album a week. From tomorrow "Mariah Carey" will be played at least one time in the next seven days.

Thank you Stephen for getting where I'm coming from. When you marry someone, that changes the dynamic of the relationship in the history books, right or wrong. Get married and divorced and you'll see what I mean, lol. Desiree, Rene was more of Celine's manager, not so much an exec. Plus, he wasn't such a control freak, lol. It's an interesting discussion. MC has sure had to fight for her due credit. No denying that. I think doing Idol is her way of saying I'm done fighting. I'm going to enjoy life and screw all the naysayers. Her numbers don't lie. And in the end, this discussion is all gravy. I get to enjoy her music and for that, I'm grateful. My favorite album is Daydream. Least favorite: CB/MOAIA. Although, even if an album doesn't grab me as a whole, there are always a handful of songs I love. CB gave me Irresistible. MOAIA gave me Obsessed and Angels Cry.

Nah, I get your point. My intent was never to contradict your points or Stephen's thoughts about MC/TM relationship. I just mentioned the marriage as something on the side to consider (not the main dish) as to why MC gets linked stronger to TM than other artists to their execs. If people don't want to consider it, that's their choice, I guess. There is no denying MC has had to fight harder for credit she deserves, a point I mentioned. Rene and Celine are happy in their marriage. (Going on 20 years in 2014, I believe.) That's boring news to the media, lol. Lee, TM's post-MC failures speak volumns, but so do MC's post-TM success too. TEOM comes to mind among other sucessful movies and business ventures.

You are right that Mariah Carey doesn't get credit with the Sony record company, but with Whitney Houston on the hand her and Clive Davis were always together, but Clive never took full credit. And Celine Dion being married to Rene, he doesn't take full credit. So I don't understand what makes Tommy take full credit. And also I always wanted to tell you that Emotions is my favortive album of hers. Do you like it? And my least would have to be Rainbow.
