Rainbow Interlude live (102,872)
by Brad from USA
| |
|
|
I was wondering about a line she sang during this interlude after she sang "I'm trying", she then sings a line "We might never..." I can't make out the full text of that line. Does anyone know what she is singing at that point? Thanks.

I so love this. Excellent development of the Rainbow interlude. I first thought it was a sample of an old song but kudos for this new dance mix.

Pride performance (102,870)
by Lady B from USA
| |

I don't miss out on an opportunity to see Mariah live and happened to be in LA for her Pride performance. I'm here to tell you, the best part was the energy that both the crowd and she gave each other. It was truly a celebratory moment and she did so many versions of songs I had not heard before. Most of all, she and the crowd both seemed to be having the time of their lives. Didn't hurt that she looked amazing and her dancers certainly played up to the audience. Good vibes all around.

The measure of wealth (102,869)
by Andrew from the UK
| |
|
|
"Mariah Carey" is not measurable by currency. There are no figures that do her justice. Not even Billboard chart placings. She is not measurable. "Mariah Carey" is an idea.
It is not that every song was a smash (kinda was), it isn't that every song hit a stratospheric note (kinda did), it isn't that every photo captured beauty (falling in love with the Rainbow photography again).
Mariah Carey is the idea that at some point, dependent upon your vantage point, all 3 things collided. Everything collided. She wasn't an artist in a league with other artists. She was weirdly big.
"You ain't gon' believe dis." All the money in my pocket vs all the money in yours. Mariah Carey's name will be known throughout the ages whilst Beyoncé's fades to a dim, distant memory. I'd bet the farm. Be safe and be well, all.

Hopes for Mariah’s Pride performance (102,868)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|

The videos on the web are promising. She sounded better during the Pride performance than the Lovers and Friends performance. I love the Rainbow interlude dance remix with new lyrics. I am just wondering if the hold up for new music has nothing to do with vocal issues, but rather not having a record label.

Hopes for Mariah’s Pride performance (102,865)
by Brandon from USA

What are you guys hoping to see during Mariah's upcoming performance? I want to see a completely revamped set list with her performing a lot of her remixes. I don't want to see any long sequined gowns but more body suits, jump suits and short flirty dresses. I also want to see a confident, well rehearsed Mariah owning the stage. I do not want to see her in tight corsets or super tall heels that restricts her movement or singing. I don't want a bunch of lip syncing with an occasional "Aye" shout nor for her to look as though she's lost on stage and doesn't know where to go. I want her to properly warm up that golden voice and tear the house down like we know she can.

When I saw this article I had to go back and watch MC's performance with Latto. It was so sweet to see Latto give props and flowers to MC. The industry is really starting to piss me off between the Grammys and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. No MC can't win everything but give her her flowers. Before they died, I feel like Whitney, Luther, MJ and Prince were given proper tributes and accolades. Now that Celine is sick, does that mean they'll give her a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and MC will be overlooked yet again? All we have left from our era is MC, Janet and Madonna. Give MC her flowers.

The Weekend collaboration (102,866)
by Bobby A from United States

I was going to post about the song yesterday, but got busy headed to the airport. It's called Popular and it is a hot summer song. It also features Playboi Cardi. I like the way Madonna swoops in for her verse like she has been singing R&B all of her life. The beat is something that The Weekend has never done before.

The Weekend just released a song with Madonna and she's way past her prime so he obviously doesn't have a problem working with legacy artists. For some reason, he just wasn't interested in working with Mariah specifically.

There was a moment in time where she was pushing that, even posting that IG story of her singing along at one of his concerts. I got the feeling that he wasn't interested, maybe thought it was beneath him to be collaborating with a "legacy" artist when he's in the prime of his career, and she felt dissed and stopped acknowledging him. Recently there was an awkward moment during one of her Twitter spaces and where she asked the fans who she should collaborate with, someone clearly said "The Weeknd" and she pretended she didn't hear and changed the subject lol. I don't see that ever happening, maybe in a few years when his career is on the decline.

It's sad we just have so few artists from the 90's still standing. Mariah definitely deserves her flowers. She not only paved the way for many, but her contribution to music has been significant. I think her diva persona has prevented some from taking her seriously though, but respect where respect is due. And yes, Latto treated Mariah with the respect and admiration that she so well deserves.

I think my point is more around being objective and holding the mirror up. Mariah's success in those other markets is mirrored or bettered by the others on the list, let's not forget that.
Many of the females on the list claim to be the best selling lol.
I agree Madonna isn't looking her best lately, but hey, who is? I mean I'm not even a fan of hers but I recognise she was a trailblazer and a lot of her songs will forever be part of pop culture. I know she doesn't like Mariah and Mariah doesn't like her, but that doesn't mean her accomplishments should be ignored. She's as bone fide a songwriter as Mariah is, perhaps more so?
What irks me is the refusal, by some, to believe that anyone could possibly be better than Mariah at anything at all, ever. Purely because she has 20 number ones in one country.

Bill, Mariah's worldwide sales speak for themselves. She might not have been big in the UK, but the UK isn't even the 2nd biggest music market - that would be Japan, where Mariah's their biggest-selling foreign act. She's also big in Asia as a whole - you know, where the vast majority of the world's population is. Sure, it's not Europe, I'll grant you that. But perhaps she's fine without the oonts oonts aficionados? Who's to say?
Would I like something other than a yearly Christmas resurgence, and a couple a high notes on a TikTok and "I see you up there" from a performance? Of course. Need I drag her through the mud to fasten on a badge as a true and non-delusional fan ad nauseum? No.
And other making headlines for horrendous nips and tucks, what current accomplishments do you speak of when lauding your worldwide artist?
All the best.

Lol, fair, but the other "so called" popular females (Madonna et al might object to that turn of phrase hah) have flexes equally as impressive in other areas. I think this is my point, there's a big wide world of other successes out there beyond US Billboard #1s and Christmas time.

I'm looking forward to unreleased stuff from the beginning like recall that tracklisting from around 2015, songs that didn't make the final cut from the debut. Maybe she'll redo the album as Rarities 2 as most have pointed out here, but I kind of want a different title, so it can stand out and on its own, not just a sequel of. I also have a feeling Mariah has something up her sleeve like a whole studio album already done - high quality like "The Emancipation Of Mimi", "Butterfly" and "Daydream". Her speaking voice does sound better of late and that's a good thing.

I completely agree. For three years, Mariah was incredibly popular across the globe and no one really compared. However, those three years plus her US-only number one records does not mean she is the most popular female singer ever/today and should therefore be sitting atop every single list ever, unfortunately. As fans of hers, we are mired in her success and statistics, but looking at it objectively, it's clear and obvious as to why she wouldn't feature on that list and the others didn't. It's nothing for anyone to be upset about, there's nothing to be done about it. Ask yourself what has she done since last Christmas? The Christmas before that? The Christmas before that? A couple of lipped concerts and an endorsement for McDonalds.

Mariah deserves better fans, Mariah deserves a better team, Mariah deserves a happier ending. I love to see as much of her as possible but I wouldn't be mad if she just dipped and released music from an island.
Many cry over "Corny Like fritos" yet the amazing song made more noise than half of her catalogue as standalone tracks. I wouldn't mind the overpraising of Mariahs earlier works if it wasn't on the expense off her later stuff. Her music from 2000-2023 gets more streams, more acclaim, more praise every year minus the "soon to be most successful song of all time" (all I want).
Mariah Carey simply is the greatest female songwriter due to her witty, relatable, tearjerking, funny, heartbreaking and sometimes unserious lyrics. Mariah does what Mariah does and I'm waiting for the time she truly disappoints me musically.

I will even take a JD produced track at this point. We have been in a MC drought far too long now. If she really wanted to be honest with all of us, she would sit down with Oprah for a TV special this summer and tell us everything about her voice problems, her feelings about Nick's many kids under 6 years old, and her troubled relationship with her mother and siblings. Oprah would love to let MC tell her story on her terms.

Let's be clear on some things. Your opinions about the Forbes list do not offend me. I don't care that she's not on the list. My only argument was that she was more popular in her prime than many others on that list. You put words in my mouth to further push your argument. I only said something because of the was you decided to express yourself mockingly using that and disguised it as trying to being funny. I only said something because someone has to call it out when they see it. It wasn't about me either, I'm a grown ass man and you don't know me therefore you can't hurt me. But you don't know how many young kids may be reading these comments and made to feel bad about their sexuality for being different. You can backtrack all you want but maybe choose your mocking words more carefully or you will be called out every time. That's all. Everyone can go back and read all these comments and take from them what they choose. Go ahead I know you must have the last and final word.
