That the article revealed another untruth about Mariah's life/career predictably leads to attacks on anyone interested in the information. Ad hominem attacks are the refuge of people who simply don't like truths that don't fit with their bubble-wrapped sensitivities. I like Mariah Carey, I love her voice, I am addicted to most of her catalogue. But more than that I have always despised people lying because it is denying me of a true understanding of the world, and the events in it, to suit their own pathology. I try always to tell the truth - or, at least, I try to not ever lie. I'm not rejoicing that we now know the proclaimed birth year is not true, I'm simply glad that I know the truth. If she had revealed it earlier we may have been spared the "eternally 12" and "anniversary" bullshit which, be it your kinda camp schtick or not, is certainly not something I ever found entertaining. Claiming, somehow, "Mariah's team" could prevent someone from writing a book is tabloid trash. There's nothing anyone could do to stop someone from writing an autobiography. Allison has no follow through. She's an addict. For the last 4 years she's been saying she's going to write a book about her life as well. It hasn't happened. I'm shook that this is such a big deal. It's 1 year. Plenty of people in the entertainment industry probably do it to be more marketable. Also I don't think Mariah ever outright said it's for sure 1970, so she was never lying. Just an omission, which isn't really deceptive (this part is aimed at Andrew claiming she's being deceptive). All the age debate is getting crazy, it's just 1 year, it's not like she's claiming to be 5 or more years younger. Also as a fellow woman, I can relate to girls wanting to kind of hide their age. That's why the whole "don't ask a lady their age" thing comes from. I know it sounds backdated but women do feel the pressure to "be younger" in more ways than one. I have a copy of flight booking she once made, from my friend who checked her in on a flight, I questioned the DOB at the time as it said 1969. Grammy tie (97,727) by RibbonB from USA So I was listening to one of my fave 90's ballads How Can I Ease the Pain, by the great Lisa Fisher, and found this old gem. In one of the relatively few Grammy ties, this world famous background singer won a Grammy non a tie with Patti Labelle. Look at the iconic lineup, Gladys, Martha, Patti and the newbies, or "newerbies". Imagine if Mimi were in that lineup. The quality and range of nominees from then to now are vastly different. How iconic hat Lisa a Fisher also sang background vocals on Patti's co-winning song Burning. How Can I Ease the Pain is the most timeless and beautiful of all those nominated songs in that category, IMO. (Wednesday 31 March 2021; 19:55)

This article from 2000 about the book is quite telling. One wonders why they aren't simply writing their own tell-all book right now. If the onus isn't on the writer to disprove the accusation, they could have a field day. I guess it was better from a publicity viewpoint to be born "in the 70s", or it was an error at first which never got corrected. Patricia saying it was 1970 was going along with the fabrication. It is statistically impossible that another Mr. And Mrs. Alfred Carey from the same town in Long Island had a baby called Mariah the exact day a year earlier. (Tuesday 30 March 2021; 14:40)
