Re: Burning bridges (96,702) (96,713)

How funny, John: were I to have written that message it would apply to me completely. I used to be that way, say, ten years ago. I adamantly cut people off for perceived slights. But feelings of animosity and hurt mostly always fade away and you find yourself without those people you once cared for enough to have in your life - who themselves have probably changed and look back on their own behaviour as a great mistake. Time is often not a healer but a great divider. I am quick to try to heal or not react anymore. You can never go home again.
Mariah seems to only have friends who are on her payroll and her kids and nephew as her family. That's possibly not healthy but it is her life and I am here for her music and voice. I hope she is happy, anyway. I owe her much.
And she owes me three minutes of my life back for I Don't.

I have the blue one. The picture of the vinyl shows a darker blue but the actual vinyl is sky blue. Very nice color. I am still waiting on Butterfly and MiMi to arrive.

Ariana sings in a different way. There's nothing bombastic about it. But she sounds beautiful.

Morgan has no case. The article said he plans on filing one but currently hasn't. With what money will he file or hire a lawyer? He's an unemployed 60 year old man who runs to the tabloids to spread lies about his sister. Not too long ago he and his wife were living with Pat in the house Mariah bought because he was broke lol. He ended up leaving because even he could not deal with his mother's dysfunction. All of his actions prove that what Mariah said about him is true. He's a snake, opportunist and is willing to do anything for money no matter how sordid or deceptive. What a sad, sad individual. Like Mariah said it's always about some plot or scheme to make money instead of actually working hard and being a decent person.

Morgan (96,708)
by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)

Morgan has nothing else to do with his time but file a lawsuit every chance he can against MC. Funny how he and Allison have made a career out of selling stories to the tabloids at any cost. As far as burning bridges when comes to Allison and Morgan, Mariah has tried to mend fences with them, she has even paid for Allison to receive treatment multiple times, and just as Morgan helped her when she was struggling to make a name for herself, she has extended the same hand to him as well. It seems to me that now that they can no longer get their way with Mariah financially they sell stories, and file lawsuits against her just to hurt her. I am just glad that MC was able to find unconditional love through her children, her nephews Michael, and Shawn. Her industry peers who she remains close to, and last but never least her true fans, and supporters.

I suppose she has finished with Rainbow because after that, most remixes are already digital singles that can be readily found. For someone like me who has never had the opportunity to listen to them, it is nice to actually be able to listen to the older mixes. Althought it would be nice to hear the shelved Beautiful dance mix that she re-sang and at last at the official HATEU remix.

There will never be another Mariah - that goes without saying. But if any one of the media and public-touted "heirs" to her throne throughout her entire career comes closest, it would be Ariana for me.
Yes, Ariana's tone will never be as rich or resonant, but based on her entire discography so far, she is the only one whose singing and melodic choices resemble Mariah's the most. She also seems to have that huge dedicated fanbase that's needed to help keep her career afloat.
The only things that are holding her back are her reliance on mostly basic trap beats (3 consecutive albums now) and her songwriting skills (her new album contains a lot of her worst lyrics yet whereas Mariah at 27 came up with Butterfly).
It's great that they're on good terms now. Would have preferred them to collaborate on a new song instead of a possibly chopped up and copy-pasted version of Oh Santa, but at this point I'm just glad Mariah's willing to share the spotlight with another femals artist who isn't a rapper, let alone two vocal powerhouses. Plus, Oh Santa is actually a nice song. Far from a classic, but still better than pretty much every other upbeat original holiday song that has ever been released post-2000.

I do believe she "burns bridges" completely. It's often easier and sometimes it can be the only way. But as you write sometimes it's good not to break completely. It's difficult. With time comes a feeling what to do. If "everything fades away" it's very sad hurtful.

Mariah's DefJam / Universal catalog (96,704)
by cBerr from Canada
| |

I was under the impression that as per the contract(s) she signed with DefJam (and parent Universal) that she retained ownership of her masters - obviously something she did not have with Sony until she re-signed. Is this not the case?
If she does in fact own those masters, why have the #MC30 EPs seemingly concluded with the Rainbow singles?
I was really hoping for more full EPs for my collection and unreleased gems like the remixes to Fly Like A Bird, the Moran and Rigg mixes to We Belong Together and the rumoured dance mixes to Up Out My Face and H.A.T.E.U.

Burning bridges (96,702)
by John from USA

Do you guys think Mariah has a tendency to burn bridges when slighted? Or are all the relationships (professional and/or personal) that she had severed ties with all justifiable?
I ask because I used to be like that, but realized later on that life is too short, have a longer leash with the people around me, and to treasure relationships as much as possible.

Of course, because he's a messy little pest. Of course, he has defamed Mariah many times over via tabloids and [YouTube] videos. He's broke, but determined. I wonder how Allison's suit against the mom is going. What yucky siblings. That opinion is based on their own doings, not anything said in the memoir. Since Morgan lurks on this message board, allegedly.

I have found it difficult to listen to Ariana knowing that Martyn died listening to her sing. I just avoid it. I find death too difficult a truth to understand and appreciate fully.
But there is a song I love called Over and Over Again by Nathan Sykes. It is quite beautiful and one of the most romantic songs ever. And I discovered he did a (albeit copy and paste) duet with Ariana on it.
Ariana has a beautiful voice. This cannot be denied. And she can sing. Very well. Very, very well. If she can keep reinventing herself - or rather, not reinventing herself but readjusting herself - as Mariah did, she will be around in 20 years time.

Copy and paste (96,692)
by Terna from Nigeria

With the announcement of the Ariana and Jennifer Hudson collaboration with "Oh Santa" being the song of choice, I just hope and pray it isn't one of those disjointed copy and paste hideous duets that have no soul (When Christmas Comes with JL, It's a Wrap feat. Mary J. Blige) where you can even hear the bad edits. I see a lot of comments about who's gonna outsing who but no one seems to be talking about this, they may be singing along to her 2010 vocals. Lol.
PS: If you actually think Ariana can outsing Mariah Carey even today, you must be high on something.

I like that song a lot and even then when I heard it for the first time, it felt like Mariah should be singing it. I do hope it sees the light of day this Christmas in the vein of "The Rarities" and everything she's released so far. Who knows an Christmas "Rarities" may be on the horizon.
