Re: Rarities tracklisting - real? (95,257) (95,260)

Hope this is true. Yup, I saw this make the rounds last week as well. And if there's anything I have learned in the last decade, that's to never underestimate redditors. That's why groups such as the Reddit Bureau of Investigation exist. Good enough to unearth solve decades-long cold criminal cases and mysteries better than proper authorities, I'm guessing perhaps at least a few lambs are there, and if there's anyone more than capable of leaking the tracklist, it's them.

I don't believe "I Pray" would end up on 'The Rarities' as if everyone remembers Mariah let that little kid record and perform it on the Oprah show back in the day. Paul Robbins, recorded and performed it, I remember feeling how amazing it would have been if Mariah did the opening lyrics
Lord I pray That in my lifetime There will come a day
It gives me goosebumps.

Rarities tracklisting - real? (95,257)

Saw this go by on Reddit. Think the track list is all but confirmed now. The ordering is incorrect here in some cases, but I've seen these titles crop up on most speculative lists. Hypnotized, Can You Hear Me, Crave and the original Loverboy are what I am most excited for.

Re: Vision Of Love EP (95,252) (95,255)

Correct Will. Vision of Love, Love Takes Time, I Don't Wanna Cry, Can't Let Go, I'll Be There, If It's Over, Hero, Without You, Endless Love, All I Want for Christmas Is You, Joy to the World, Open Arms, and Forever are all EP-less singles currently.
No remixes were commissioned for Vision of Love, I'll Be There, If It's Over, Without You and Forever, so that makes sense. Open Arms and Hero only had their Spanish versions.
However, Love Takes Time, I Don't Wanna Cry, and Can't Let Go had radio versions released on the singles at the time. Up until now I haven't included Love Takes Time's single version on my list because it is so barely different it is probably just a different mix rather than an official alternative version. For those interested, the version released on the UK commercial singles pushes the whistle register at the end of the bridge way into the back of the mix, whereas on the album version it is much more prominent.
I'm hoping the Christmas tracks have their own EPs soon.
I agree a Vision of Love EP with the live versions from Thanksgiving, MSG and the Medley from the debut album would have been good.

#1s Era Remix EPs (95,251)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
As before, here are my hopes and thoughts for the #1s remix EPs. There are some amazingly rare, and brilliant, remixes of Do You Know Where You're Going To that I pray will appear. Fingers crossed.
* Denotes a vinyl only release. [P] Denotes a promo only release.
Sweetheart 1. Radio Edit 2. Without Rap 3. The Story 4. The Story Instrumental 5. The Dance 6. Lil Jon Remix 7. Instrumental [P] 8. A Cappella [P] 9. M.'s Pounding Vocal 10. M.'s More Bounce to the Ounce Vocal* [P] 11. M.'s Pounding Dub* [P] 12. M.'s Beats & Bounces Mix* [P]
A handful of vinyl-only, promo-only remixes for Sweetheart which I hope will see the light of day digitally. The promos are all relatively easy to find however.
When You Believe 1. TV Track 2. Instrumental
I very much doubt these will be issued - but would be great if they were put out with the Oscar performance or something.
I Still Believe 1. Stevie J. Remix 2. Stevie J. Remix Edit [P] 3. Stevie J. Remix Instrumental* 4. Stevie J. Remix Clean 5. Stevie J. Remix A Cappella* 6. Morales Classic Club Mix 7. Morales Classic Club Mix Edit 8. Morales Classic Club Mix - UK Edit 9. Damizza Reemix 10. Damizza Reemix Edit 11. Damizza Reemix A Cappella 12. Damizza Reemix Instrumental* 13. The King's Mix 14. The King's Mix Instrumental 15. The Eve of Souls Mix 16. The Eve of Souls Mix - UK Edit
There is a 10-track EP already available for streaming. Hopefully MC30 will remove that and replace it with the 16 available remixes mentioned above.
Do You Know Where You're Going To 1. Mahogany Club [P] 2. Mohogany Club Extended [P] 3. Mahogany for Clubbers [P] 4. Mariah Bonita [P] 5. Mariah Bonita Club [P] 6. Mariah Bonita Club Edit [P]
These are the ones that would be brilliant to have. Only available on a Brazilian promotional picture CD (899.743/2-492409). I sold mine for about £700 a while ago, so would love to have these again.

Butterfly EPs and recap (95,250)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Hi all. Everyone set your faces to bored, it's the return of Bill's Weekly Remix EP Recap. I'm also going to start including track times where applicable to help differentiate remixes.
The main highlight is of course the Butterfly Meme club remixes, which were previously only available on South American promotional CDs. They were mega rare and also unbelievably expensive whenever they appeared for sale on eBay etc. When I hit hard times I reluctantly sold my copies (Mexican and Brazilian variants). I was heartbroken, as I knew I'd never likely possess them again, but I was £1,800 better off lol.
I was also very glad to see Breakdown get its own EP, as I was worried it would be skipped due to there only being two remixes - nice to see it fleshed out with the album version, which we all love.
There were also some vinyl-only remixes that are now available to stream and download in clean, crisp quality:
Honey (Def Rascal Anthem) Honey (Def Rascal Dub) The Roof (After Hours Mix) The Roof (Bass Man Mix)
That said, unfortunately there have once again been some omissions from the EPs. Only The Roof and Breakdown were fully in tact.
Honey Smooth Version No Intro (4:25)
The Smooth Version with Intro (4:47) was released commercially in a number of territories across a number of formats. The No Intro version was only available on a handful of promotional items. Given MC has been releasing promotional-only remixes (Underneath the Stars, Butterfly etc.), I'm surprised this wasn't included for completeness.
Butterfly TV Track (8:44) TV Track Short (4:21) Sambatterfly (8:26)
I was so, so disappointed that these three were not present on the EP, as they will likely never now be available to stream. The Samba Edit (4:44) and the Samba For Clubbers (8:28) made it, so why the regular Samba version (8:26) didn't is a mystery. The Mexican promo CD (PRCD 97251) contains all three. I can only suspect it was deemed to be the same remix due to the track length being the same as the For Clubbers version. The TV Tracks being missing is also quite frustrating for completists like myself. Again, my suspicion is that they were thought the same as the Radio Instrumental and Instrumental club mixes, but they are of course different. The TV Tracks are on the Brazilian promo CD (899.500).
My All Full Crew Main Mix Full Crew Main Mix Without Rap* Full Crew Main Mix Instrumental*
Only one of the Full Crew remixes (the Radio Mix) has been included. The Main Mix was available commercially on a number of releases, so I can't fathom why it never appeared. A real shame is that the Without Rap and Instrumental versions were promotional, vinyl-only remixes, so my dream of owning Mariah's entire remix catalogue digitally has now been shattered into a million pieces.
Mi Todo Original Version Version Por Una Noche Mas Version Mi Fiesta Por Una Noche Mas En Los Clubs Por Una Noche Mas Instrumental
I'm holding out hope these will be included at a later date alongside the Spanish Versions of Hero and Open Arms. These are great mixes, that are also very hard to find, so a bit of a blow to not see them this week. The only commercially available version is the original, and that appears on a very scarce Mexican single (CDMIX 658685). The remixes can be found on the Mexican promotional CD PRCD 97427.
Below is the running log of missed remixes. Hopefully the Merry Christmas ones will appear nearer the festive season. An asterisk* denotes the remix is available only on a vinyl release. A [P] at the end denotes a promotional-only remix that is not available on a commercial release.
Missed Remixes Log I Don't Wanna Cry (Radio Edit) [P] Medley (Prisoner/All In Your Mind/Someday) Can't Let Go (Edit) Can't Let Go (Edit - No Intro) [P] Make It Happen (Extended Version - Radio Edit) [P] Hero (Spanish Version) Endless Love (Instrumental) Endless Love (Mariah Only) Endless Love (Luther Only) All I Want for Christmas Is You (So So Def Remix) All I Want for Christmas Is You (Extra Festive) All I Want for Christmas Is You (Super Festive) All I Want for Christmas Is You (Mariah's New Dance Mix) All I Want for Christmas Is You (Mariah's New Dance Mix Edit) All I Want for Christmas Is You (Mariah's New Dance Mix Extended) Joy to the World (Celebration Mix) Joy to the World (Celebration Mix Edit) Joy to the World (Flava Mix) Joy to the World (Crash Dub Crash)* Joy to the World (Club Mix) Miss You Most (At Christmas Time) (Radio Version) [P] Fantasy (Puffy's Mix) Always Be My Baby (Reggae Soul Mix) Always Be My Baby (Reggae Soul Dub) Always Be My Baby (Reggae Soul Acapella)* Open Arms (Spanish Version) Honey (Smooth Version No Intro) [P] Butterfly (Sambatterfly) [P] Butterfly (TV Track) [P] Butterfly (TV Track Short) [P] My All (Full Crew Main Mix) My All (Full Crew Main Mix Without Rap)* [P] My All (Full Crew Main Mix Instrumental)* [P] Mi Todo (Original Version) Mi Todo (Version Por Una Noche Mas) [P] Mi Todo (Version Mi Fiesta) [P] Mi Todo (Por Una Noche Mas En Los Clubs) [P] Mi Todo (Por Una Noche Mas Instrumental) [P]

Well said. Tommy controlled everything, including it stands to reason how she treated her voice. It's no secret her voice started taking a turn for the worst after they separated. Even if she didn't smoke or drink, being around people who do, breathing that smoke in is just as bad. Celine is around Mariah's age and I don't cringe everytime she gets up to sing. She lipsyncs too, but there is no doubt she's taken better care of her voice. I think Mariah is the better talent, but Celine wins in the voice care department.

I feel strongly we all will forget about STD when hear the other 14 tracks on The Rarities and I Don't Wanna Cry, Without You, Underneath The Stars and Open Arms on disc 2. MC vocals were so good at the Tokyo concert. I wonder what her promotion schedule will be like that week. She will have a busy week in the media. I hope MC includes a little narrative about each song like she did with the #1 To Infinity album. I am curious know what she has to say about each track especially Loverboy.

You totally missed the point. (Ir)Regardless of Mariah's choices (ie drinking, image change, friends etc), some fans seem stuck on the early 90's. If that is not who Mariah is/wants to be what is the point of just trashing her?
I'll forever be a fan/lamb, I'm not just a fan of her music, I'm also a fan of her. I don't need her to have another #1 record, #1 album or sold out shows.

Wow Andrew. What you articulated was so profound and carefully listed out. I respect it. It's what I've been feeling for so many years about Mariah. Her best music was during the Sony years and when she was under the careful guidance of Tommy's thumb. It's evident to anyone who follows her career as closely as we do, that her personal vices are what lead to her vocal decline. As much as we want her voice to return to its heyday, it's not unless Mariah is ready to confront her demons. Unfortunately, Mariah has enough fame and fortune to rest on her legacy and churn out mediocre songs with an unpleasant shrill to her once pristine voice. As much as Tommy was overbearing, it was under his watch that Mariah kept her voice in good shape and worked with amazing partners to produce a catalog of music that is loved for all-time. Tommy said in his memoir that his experience in the business led him to see a raw talent like Mariah and knew that she had x amount of years while her gift was in great shape to produce great music. Then afterwards she could retire and go into the sunset and enjoy her success. Seems like in the end that's exactly what happened. Again, thanks for composing such a detailed account of where Mariah's career has started and ended up today. I can tell it was made from the perspective of someone who loves MC and also is equally as tough on what is really going on behind the scenes and in front of our eyes.

The general public (95,242)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
Not sure how Billboard evaluate this "Artist 100" but I was shocked to see Mariah is not even listed, considering all the activity she's been doing for MC30 and also the current pandemic situation restricting normal artist activity.
The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John and Britney are all there, along with whatever the kids like today I suppose.
It just confirms to me that, aside from Christmas time and the lamily, the general public aren't interested in whatever she's doing.
I usually send my partner crazy by overplaying her, especially when a new song drops and he's a closet fan by now. But STD he will not tolerate for some reason, thinks it's the worse he's heard in a long time and tells me to turn it off whenever I try to convert him.

Debut voice (95,241)
by Terna from Nigeria

I think Mariah debuted with an instrument that was already compromised. If you listen to the first EP she released in celebration of MC30 her voice sounds constricted especially on the belts and she's singing with an obvious effort thus the heavy sighs at the end of every performance. And on the "Vanishing" performance at the 2:40 mark you can actually hear her clear her throat before the high belt and sustain mid song.

They also mention that in addition to Mariah's debut album being released on vinyl, Rainbow will be released on a double vinyl on 6th November 2020.

Dear Delulons (95,236)
by Andrew from the United Kingdom
| |
|
|
The Voice It is unbelievably malicious and false to claim Mariah's vocal issues had anything to do with Tommy Mottola. There is no evidence for it. In fact, it is likely he prevented her from behaviours that would have advanced the damage earlier. Mariah's voice was crapping out as early as the Music Box Tour. We even now know why Joy To The World was the only song we have erstwhile seen from the Church of St John the Divine - the rest of the vocals are a struggle. We know, albeit in hindsight, Mariah was pushing her voice too far. And then she actively did things which resulted in permanent damage.
The Drink and Drugs It is not, as they say, "post hoc ergo propter hoc". Mariah's alcoholism etc may have been recognisable after her first divorce, but it in no way means it was "after it therefore because of it". She began to hang out with people she had previously been prevented from hanging out with. Her voice was the winning lottery ticket and she screwed it up to be popular with the cool kids. When artists like Celine Dion would go weeks on vocal rest, Mariah was... well, we know what Mariah was doing.
The Behaviour and the Control Mariah's behaviour certainly changed after her divorce. She became childish, slutty and started to hang around more with idiots, smoking and drinking. Those were her decisions. She did that. And whilst addicts must not be blamed or shamed, neither should the truths of their addictions be denied nor blame placed on anyone else. That is hugely important. These behaviours massively detracted from her achievements and damaged her reputation. Though I accept her relationship with Tommy was not a healthy one (even by his own admission), knowing what behaviours she would later display I can't help but wonder if it was not these behaviours which Tommy and the label were trying to prevent, knowing the damage they would do to her and the career they had invested a massive amount in.
The Breakdown Mariah had a breakdown because she realised that she couldn't have success on her own. The label took their support away. Indeed, it even started to move against her. Funny, you criticise and slander people, they don't sit down and take it. And Glitter was a twreible vanity project. Mariah would have been told not to do this but did it anyway. If she doesn't know she is a terrible actress she is either not listening to people, lying to herself, or both.
The Music Mariah's "controlled" career produced the music that almost everyone on this board considers the best of her career (1991 to 1996). When she was "free" the music and lyrics were not as good. Mariah being steered by her label to create brilliant music was not a bad thing to me. Now she produces songs which are actually bad, some terrible: STD, WYM, Infinnidee. Lyrics have become shallow if not just plain pathetic. The Emancipation of Mimi itself was reportedly born of Medina and strong label control.
I love Mariah's music and voice and have followed her entire career since I was young but I recognise truths where I see them. I am no longer the naive teenager who would create or support lies to maintain the narrative of perfection or, worse still, victimhood. Every time something negative about Mariah is presented the delulons run for the nearest person to blame instead of facing the truth.
Mariah's voice continues to rapidly degrade. This isn't natural. Something is causing it and we know what it is. Her voice is in an extremely bad way and it is time to face the truth. As beyond sad as it is, it may be time to wind things down quite a bit. Mariah chose drink and drugs over her voice and she has had to live with that, and, now, face up to the consequences of those actions as the smoke and mirrors employed for so many years no longer work and people start to call it out.
Her voice is no longer anywhere near as pleasant to listen to and the music she makes not very good. Yet most of us are still here out of a life long allegiance and love for her. At least some of us can accept truths whilst the delulons keep making shit up like "she sounded good on the Caution World Tour". If that is what "good" now is, the bar has fallen to the floor.
P.S. I can almost hear the delulons tapping away madly, already enraged at my "hate", screaming into the air wishes that I would disappear. But I say this to you: I admit and accept truths and am still here, 27 years later. To the teenagers I say this: you will soon grow up and hopefully wisen up. To the delulons who have grown up but still live in Fantasy land: it is you people that need a rethink. Blind support is not healthy. Once you accept truth, life is actually a lot less stressful. It does not need to detract from the brilliance of most of her music, the sheer emotion of most of her vocals, the genius of most of her lyrics, the grave importance of her existence in your life.
The truth, as they say, shall set you free.
