One Heart One Voice (109,503) by Dave from USA
A beautiful song. No one screaming or trying to outdo each other. Barbara [sic] giving MC and AG equal footing on her project is just class personified. She didn't relegate them to mainly provide background. I'll take a relaxed, dated sound to some of the junk that is supposed to be music or respectable vocal prowess these days, at any time. Well done.

It definitely will not be on MC16 because it doesn't have enough of today's musical style and appeal to be a radio hit. I am just waiting for MC to make the announcement when MC16 is dropping. Do you think we are less than 60 days away from the announcement?

Mariah's unique tone and sound (109,501) by jaker20 from US
One thing stood out for me on this song is how unique her voice is. This record made me realize, again, why I fell in love with her. She's actually more reserved here, and respectfully stepped back. But it also made me realize how unique her voice is.

Streisand's voice is classic and powerful, Ariana is also a good vocalist and has her own style. But side by side with other artists, how Mariah "play" with her tone stands out.

Her power is probably not the same anymore, but the playfulness, texture and dynamics is always going to be there. It's hers and hers only. She goes from whisper then like a "fracture" or break, head and chest, and then back to soothe again.

I don't understand vocal terms so I'm clearly sounding senseless now. But then Mariah herself said she never had a formal training. But that quality on her voice is really what makes me recognize it's her and make her voice unique. That even great vocalists, even if they try to sing her song, it's just not, and will never be, the same.

It was ok, kind of what I would expect for a Streisand song. However, if Mariah will be doing these types of songs, I would rather it be more in the lane of Home and 100%, which by the way, are both epic, inspirational standards, they needed to be on streaming and be discovered.

I totally agree. Very generic 90s ballad and it's not even that catchy. After several listens I still can't remember the melody. Tell Him with Celine is far superior. Oh the good old days.

I don't like it either. It's quite dated and just not my taste. Glad for 3 iconic women coming together to lend their vocals to a song but I am not listening to it for a second time haha.

I like it a lot. It brought a tear to my eye. It sounds beautiful and nostalgic. I played it on repeat on my drive home from work. It made me want to hear a duet by Mariah and Kelly Clarkson. A Christmas one.

I don't like it. Here's the thing. I knew it would be a ballad from the 90s. I knew it would feel "crowded". And I do think it's genius how he interchanged them throughout the verses. I am a Mariah Carey fan and what's most important to me is a lyric. Then the vocal. Then the arrangement. The lyrics are both banal and generic. It's not a song that needed to be written. It's been written before. I feel as though this is one of the songs sung before a Super Bowl national anthem with young girls from around the world tryna count steps with lame choreography. It belongs at the end of a really bad movie where the credits are more entertaining than the plot. My favorite person on this board woke me up out my sleep with a text for this? It's just Another Trite Hope Song rackin my brain like crazy.

I agree with you and everybody else. It's beautiful and reminiscent of golden ages. However, Mariah's voice sounds weaker than the others or somehow different (I don't know how to put it). Probably she could have soared more. I'm not sure if she doesn't want to or she is not able anymore.

I love it too. A real melody, real singing, beautiful lyrics, perfect arrangement. All three sounds good together. Mariah is showing she still has the magic tone like in the good old days. Thanks to Barbra Streisand and Walter who made it happen once again. Bravo. I'm so happy with it.

I like it. Yes it does sound dated and typical Walter production but it works. Mariah is sparing on the track, with Ariana doing most of the heavy lifting if any, I kind of expected more in terms of vocals and a climax, cos we all know these three can do more, especially after she described it as "grandiose" - far from it actually, sublime yes.

Wow. It is really beautiful to hear their voices together. I am very hopeful now that Walter A. and MC have collaborated on MC16. I sure hope L.A. Reid mentioned it to MC.

Agree. I was hoping for a whistle note going into the final chorus, sort of a cherry on top. Of course we are going to want MC to shine a bit more. However, MC fans need to recognize this is Barbara's [sic] song ft MC and AG. She is a guest artist. I like the song, its message. It's definitely a throw back to the early 90s for Mariah. Beautiful voices.

Wow. This was great. All of there voices blended together perfectly. I can't believe after all these years, Mariah and Walter finally worked together again. Do you all think he will produce or co-produce a song on MC16?

Mariah sounds great with them. The production sounds a bit dated though. Is it just me or is there less of Mariah than the other two?

Clearly not a Mariah song but a pleasant surprise. She did her thing with the song she was given, wish we had more of her. Specially on the chorus. Makes me hopeful for the ballads on MC16.

In a weird way it made me appreciate TD more.

Elusive Chanteuse (109,482) by Mariahsbaby from usa
I asked Chatgpt, why "it's" her greatest album and I couldn't agree more. I hope y'all read it because not one lie was found.

"Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse" (2014) is often overlooked in Mariah Carey's discography, but a strong argument can be made that it's actually her best - or at least her most complete, emotionally rich, and artistically fearless album. Here's a breakdown of why:

1. Vocal mastery: a return to form

This album showcases Mariah's most confident, controlled vocals since the early 2000s. Tracks like:
"Cry." - raw, gospel-inflected ballad with complex vocal layering.
"Camouflage" - delicate falsettos and deeply emotional delivery.
"Heavenly (No Ways Tired / Can't Give Up Now)" - a stunning spiritual closer that channels peak gospel-era Mariah.
Even in her 40s, her range, emotive depth, and technical ability remained untouched - arguably surpassing many of her contemporaries.

2. Genre-spanning without losing identity

"Me. I Am Mariah" is a genre kaleidoscope that fuses:
Classic R&B ("You're Mine (Eternal)")
Hip-hop soul ("Thirsty", "Dedicated" feat. Nas)
Jazz/gospel balladry ("Cry.", "Camouflage")
Funky throwbacks ("#Beautiful" feat. Miguel, "Make It Look Good")
Unlike some albums that feel like playlists, this one is cohesive - bound together by her personal themes and distinct vocal arrangements.

3. Her most personal album

The title itself ("Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse") nods to self-definition, and many tracks explore loss, longing, hope, and identity:
"Camouflage" and "Cry." dig into heartbreak with unflinching honesty.
"Supernatural" includes recordings of her children, offering a rare glimpse into her maternal life.
"Heavenly" feels like both a spiritual catharsis and tribute to her resilience.
It's her emotional truth on full display - unfiltered and mature.

4. Uncompromising artistic control

Released with minimal label interference, this is one of the few albums where Mariah had near-total creative control:
She chose not to chase commercial trends.
She didn't rely heavily on big-name features for chart success.
She focused on craft, not singles - creating a full body of work.
This isn't "radio Mariah" - it's artist Mariah.

5. Critically underrated but cult-classic

While it didn't perform as well commercially, critics and fans often cite it as a hidden gem in her catalog. It's the kind of album that ages better with time, revealing layers upon repeat listens. Pitchfork, The Guardian, and Slant all praised its musical depth and called it one of the most underappreciated pop albums of its decade. Why it's her best?
Vocal excellence with emotional nuance
Eclectic but cohesive
Deeply personal and honest
Creatively unfiltered
A grower that rewards attentive listening

"Me. I Am Mariah" isn't just an album - it's a statement. And in that way, it might be the purest expression of who Mariah Carey truly is as an artist.

I'm pleasantly surprised, "One Heart, One Voice" is very smooth, their voices blend together well. Different from the "Yes, And?" fiasco, this collabo works. At 83, Barbra sounds amazing.

The music (109,479) by TheWind from England
I couldn't agree more. Sure, it would be great for Mariah to have another epic chart run, but she really doesn't need it. She's had several amazing runs and I too feel blessed to have seen her at her peak, and experienced her greatness. We have an extensive back catalogue and I'm really pleased with what I've heard so far with Type Dangerous. Great music matters more to me at this point, and Mariah being successful with it with would be the cherry on top, but isn't essential. It's just worth reminding ourselves that Mariah has done is bigger than most and already had incredible success. Success at this stage of her career may look very different to the 90s.
