The love for Mariah (95,505)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
I like most female singers who can really sing, Mariah, Celine, Whitney, Christina, Barbra, Patti, Aretha etc., but I also love female artist that hasn't got that huge voice like Madonna, Britney, Katy Perry and Rihanna.
But when I read comments on Facebook and YouTube and such, I understand there is a huge competition among those artists based on their fans. Fans argue all the time about who is the ultimate queen. What I have realised tonight is that all those arguments affect me, because I always want my Mariah on top.
Well, the reality is that Mariah is far from being on top these days. Her music doesn't make any impact and she sells very few tickets to her live shows. Those are the basic arguments from rivaling fans who wants to put Mariah down. I can't argue against them, because it's true.
What I have also realised this evening, is that whatever other people say about Mariah, my feeling towards her remains the same. There is nothing people could say that can distance me from Mariah, because music and the artist is about the feelings you experience while listening to them, and the feeling I get while listening to Mariah is always positive. Mariah is my go to artist at all times. I'm so much in love with the music and person, that I will never stop routing for her. Mariah has been my number one inspiration in music, I have invested so much time supporting her, that not a single argument will change my stand that Mariah is the best female singer in the world.
Love you Mariah.

It's on her Insta, so it is. Fire the proof reader I guess. I noticed all that too and things like that really, really get to me.

Best introspective song (95,503)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Since very early on, Mariah has often graced her albums with beautifully poignant, introspective songs. Often sung softly and delicately. The Wind, Looking In, Petals, Sunflowers, Languishing, Camouflage, and Portrait. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting (finishing the rest of that bottle of wine from my previous post).
Have you a favourite? I was listening to Portrait today and the opening really struck me. Where do I go from here? How do I disappear? These lyrics are heartbreaking. For me, I take it to be a reflection on the embarrassment of The Nightmare Era and Mariah's World and Packer and all that nonsense that was going on back then. Imagine being Mariah. Never having any privacy. Having everything you do scrutinised. Your relationships documented in news articles.
How do I disappear? She never will. This is what is so upsetting about this song.

I gotta agree with you Edward. I didn't expect this many unheard songs. I def wish she had finished unfinished tracks and put them in because the three B sides are unnecessary. They are all over YouTube. Also I really wanted Crave. But I'm excited overall. And I gotta agree with you on my first listen of Butterfly. I remember exactly where I was that album was so monumental. This almost makes me rethink leaving the board. Almost.

Mariah performing at the US Open? (95,501)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|

Mariah latest Facebook story is very cryptic, but it looks like she will perform at the women's final. I am a total tennis buff and have watched lots of the matches at this years US Open, and will be watching the final. It would be so much fun to see Mariah there.

Article: Mariah Carey reveals the tracklist of "The Rarities" (95,499)
by Andrew from the United Kingdom
| |
|
|
Is this tracklisting real?
1. The year on Do You Think Of Me is missing the parenthesis. 2. Track 6 contains a space before it and therefore misalignment of numbers. 3. Slipping Away is listed as 1996. That is not the year in which it was recorded but released. The other years suggest the years in which the songs were recorded.
All seems a bit odd to me.

How interesting (95,494)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
I went back to an article posted in 2013 with the tracklisting of "The Art of Letting Go" (original iteration of Me I Am Mariah). How interesting to see Save the Day as the final track. Tracks 1-4 ended up on MIAM, she's mentioned Hope Street in interviews. I'm dubious about the other tracks listed, especially the duet with Stevie produced by Walter. I doubt that ever happened. Why would you shelve a duet with Stevie (when he contributed harmonica to Make It Look Good)? And no way would she have let Walter near the track to produce it. But it is interesting how much of this rumoured tracklisting ended up being genuine.

I'm not going to lecture you with one of the most ridiculous sentences some people use her to justify Mariah, which is "Mariah doesn't owe us anything", but I'll tell you this: None of us were expecting to have so much from Mariah in a shitty year like 2020. She's not only given us EP after EP, we'll get "The Meaning of Mariah Carey", but we'll also have "The Rarities". On top of that, vinyl releases of her catalog, that's insane. Even the gays will get a vinyl release of the Glitter album with actual pink glitter all over it. When was the last time we got so much from Mariah in such a short period of time? Never.
Even though some of us don't want to admit it, we're all excited because we're getting those heavenly vocals and great lyrics of the past.
I won't listen to any snippet, I'll discover the songs one by one when I get the album, like when I first popped in the "Butterfly" CD and my heart skipped a beat every time a new track was about to start.

I may put my collection up for sale. I've got everything from 1990 - present. CD's, foreign releases, maxi-singles, singles, magazines, original DJ vinyl releases, unopened music. I have to get it all catalogued. Email miakitten@msn.com and I'll put you on the list.

Harumph (95,491)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
I was a bit perturbed to not be greeted with some Rainbow era EPs this morning. I know Mariah went nuclear this week with the vinyl re-issues, so I guess that was this week's gift for us (well, £500 expense lol). Plus Heartbreaker, Thank God I Found You and Mariah's Theme already have remix singles available to stream (in the UK at least), so I guess it doesn't really matter. But it does.

I feel you Paul, but MC was striving for a coehsive complilation package. Other rare songs would have ruined the flow of the CD in your music player. Tracks 1-7 give you that Motown R&B sound that MC wanted more of on her earlier albums. Tracks 8-15 are the "making a statement" songs like Out Here On My Own, I Pray, Loverboy (Firecracker Original Version), Lullaby of Birdland, Save The Day, and Close My Eyes.

That would be nice. However, it is too late to add extra songs, the physical release is already sitting at warehouses ready to be shipped to the retailer. It can still happen for the digital release, but I doubt that too. Any deluxe CD or digital edition would have been announced on Wednesday.

The Rarities (Deluxe) (95,485)
by Ethan from United States

I hope there's a deluxe version for 2-3 more songs. There's space left on the first CD to include Runway, which is perfectly fitting to follow by Save The Day (2020) with its lyrics and message.
And the bonus track is Where are you Christmas? to lead up to Christmas 2020. How fitting is that with everything has happened this year? It's only wishful thinking but I do hope Mariah's Team will go back and add at least those 2 songs.

Negative Nancy (95,484)
by Paul from Usa
| |

|
I'm sorry to sound so negative. Truly. I adore Mariah. But I feel a little short changed with [The Rarities] track list. We can scrap the live versions from Tokeyo Dome [sic]. I'm positive everyone of those songs is etched in my memory from rewatching those videos over and over again. I'm not that excited that it's on disc now. But definitely excited that it's available for streaming services and authorized.
But tell me, am I the only one feeling a little jipped by her most popular B sides? Hear me out. It's MC30. She's already been releasing so much previously heard rare/unheard/not for popular release tracks and remixes week by week. And I'm very thankful for this. And I realize this is especially exciting for fans who are avid release collectors (just as I used to be). But I would've loved, in their place something new, something different.
I realize this is appropriate for this album. But like I said. They have been released. It's not like they were buried in the volt.
What do you guys think?
As far as my collection, sadly it was lost due to someone else's negligence, I started collecting again, and it was destroyed in a fire. Otherwise I'd continue to collect.

Music Box is not pop per say (95,483)
by Paul from Usa
| |
|
|
I consider [Music Box] to be an adult contemporary album. But back in 1993 pop was a blanket genre for a variety of music that was "Popular". Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Janet Jackson, [Rod Stewart], Aerosmith were all listed as "pop" Pop in 1993, in my own opinion would have been [Ace of Base], [Aqua], [Robbie Williams], etc. and today I think it easily translates into music by Katy Perry, Lady Gaga etc.

MTV Unplugged Target Exclusive vinyl (95,482)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I guess MC did break the internet on Wednesday. The MTV Unplugged Target Exclusive vinyl has been designated as "pre-orders have sold-out". Don't worry because they do this to make sure that they can get all of pre-orders shipped by November 6th. They will open up the ordering again once the pre-orders have all shipped. Plus, you know they are going ship some to the stores on or after November 6th. The same scenario happened with Taylor Swift's Lover. I bought that one in the store on release day. Don't buy that MC one eBay for $75.00. Lol.
