I'll never forget my first listen of the Butterfly album and how sad I felt at listening to her tone, especially Butterfly. Even Whenever You Call which floored me had me giving side eyes to parts of her phrasing etc. I still thought she was in a league of her own but something had changed and drastically. Then when she sang Butterly live in promotions, oh dear. Comparing that to Hero at the Tokyo Dome only 12 months or so prior, just sad. (Monday 17 February 2020; 22:02)

Now, I am really starting to believe that most of the Christmas show performances were lipped. Maybe MC should focus on her acting career for awhile. Her live performances are getting painful to watch, her struggle with so many of her songs that she use to be able sing with such ease and agility. Kuk Harrell should be hired to her bring her voice back to where it was post-Charmbraclet era. March is really going to be interesting to see if she post pics of her in the studio or vacationing in the Bahamas. (Monday 17 February 2020; 20:29)

Re: Mariah needs to recover her voice and stop touring (92,886) (92,905) by John from USA I saw an interview from when Mariah was just starting about how her voice and music lifted her from a life of poverty (I'm paraphrasing, of course), and how much she considers it a gift and respects it. I was afraid to say this, for fear of getting scolded or my being a fan questioned, but I think Mariah has lost all care and respect for that very gift. She is touring for money's sake, and all that unhealthy shouty singing is not going to help her voice recover. Honestly even at its current state, there are still many voice coaches that say she can still recover a lot of her voice quality - maybe not the full range - if she decides to take care of her voice. Mariah was a natural singer - emphasis on the "was" because she no longer is. Not to minimize the vocal training she got from her mother, but I think she, like other natural singers (and dancers for that matter), just knew how to sing from the get go. As her voice got worse, compensatory bad habits arose, and she "forgot" how to sing properly. She needs to go see her voice doctor (an ENT likely), go seek a good vocal coach, relearn how to sing with proper technique. Needless to say, if she really still treasured and respected this gift, she would stop the alcohol, the smoking, and get enough sleep. She has amassed this massive fortune. Instead of relying on touring to maintain her extravagant lifestyle, she should invest her hard-earned money on businesses and stocks instead of shouting her voice to oblivion. I am sure it would sell at least 500,000 copies if we got all of the left over tracks and remixes from 2002-2018. I would love to hear the songs that didn't make CB, TEOM, EMC2, MOIA, MIAM, and Caution. Nicely packaged as a Target Exclusive would hold us over until 2022. There are some clear playback parts in Tokyo and when listening to the (awful) recordings of the European dates, some notes and ad libs are exactly the same every single night. So I do question whether she truly flat out sang 15 of her songs back to back in one evening with zero support. I think it's just her voice was on par with the playback back then so it was hard to detect. Whereas now we get a barked one note in speaking range "eh" followed by a multi octave run of "it's a chance I've got to taa-ee-yaa-aaaaa-eee-aaaaa-aaaa-eeee-yaaaaakeee" where it's clearly lipped. A compilation of old hits doesn't constitute an "album" by label standards. She still owes them 2 more and no one really knows about the terms of the renegotiated deal or if it went through. Mariah's touring/residency schedule doesn't provide her enough time to do all the things she needs to do to care for her voice. When she did the Daydream tour she only did 1 concert per week. That was at her prime and her youth. It goes to show just how much a concert takes a toll on her voice. Now, she's singing back to back shows then taking one day off before she's back again. She's supposed to have 2 days off between concerts as a minimum. (Monday 17 February 2020; 05:41)

Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, and Celine Dion have lost quite a few notes off of the top of their range. They can't ad-lib the full voice belts they used to. But they all can still sing their verses. MC struggles through verses and has been for the last decade in my opinion. And yet she recorded two albums with verses and notes she had no hope of replicating live. Why put yourself in this situation? Why not record songs in the key of Right To Dream and Help Me Make It Through The Night? What trips me out is that MC is touring to make money. No one buys records. Why can't she cut back on her lifestyle? Does she need more than one house? More than one car? A stylist, make up artist, umbrella holder, driver, nannies? She's turning 50 next month and no I don't want her out to pasture or to retire. But if she keeps going she will not be able to sing at all. Note Aretha, Gladys and Patti still perform(ed) in their 70s. They sound OK. Dionne sounds an old tired mess. I fear MC will sound worse. That's my greatest fear. And for the last time MCs voice hasn't just started to fray. I beg of you watch the 1996 concert Daydream in Tokyo. Perfection. Now watch her performances in 1997 and 1998. It went bad really fast. She started this lip syncing shit in 1999 during the promotional tour for Rainbow. Something happened. That's why we want her to address it. I say, I want Mariah to do more of the singing, but still incorporate some dancing and moving around. I think I wouldn't complain if she moved more. It's been so long since I've heard that song or any Mimi song on the radio, so I was so excited. The radio popped on soon as I started my car and the song was midstream, so I screamed. Mimi singing one of my faves. The staccato that that is, the superb self-harmonizing that that is, the sentiment that that is. Saaaang Mimi. I just had to sing some Mariah praises this Sunday.
