Breakdown video (92,686)
by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
| |
|
|
To me the Breakdown video along with The Roof are two of MC’s sexiest videos without a doubt. She was absolutely out of this world in those videos. Nothing was out of place nor over the top to where it became awkward. The videos for this era were some of our girl's best even now. I still watch two videos today and get mesmerized at the beauty and sexiness that comes from the screen. What a time.

Mariah created the Hip-Pop sound to quote Left Eye from TLC. No one bats an eye when an R&B artist collaborates with a rapper but when a Pop princess, who let's not forget was married to the head of her label, collaborated with OBD people sat up and took notice. I remember reading articles and reviews in 1995 that said by doing that remix Mariah was going to alienate her core audience. They were wrong and the rest is history. MJ's collaboration was a #1 but he also received a lot of flack for working with Hip-Hop artists because he was considered a Pop artist just like Mariah even though the music they made was R&B music.

I think it's because she's been consistent musically and she's a legend. Those lawsuits are meritless. If she was being blackmailed with those photos that leaked showing her c-section scar I don't know why she was so worried about them getting out. Yes, she looked high/drunk but her body looked amazing. Every celeb gets sued, it comes with the territory.

Honestly any still from the Breakdown video is amazing in terms of her best looks:
Wearing the top hat The slick hair without the hat in the corset The crown and the feathers in the hair
Sublime, she went close in the video to I Stay In Love to mimicking the showgirl look, special mention to Always Be My Baby shots too.

Mariah's scandals really have been rather wack. Even the Stellar crap was so dumb and weird and random and most people dgaf. Mariah was doing fine outside the reality show realm. She's still settling lawsuits that no one is interested in.

Does anyone here follow this lady's YouTube channel? She is so OOC. I've been following her for a while. She drags absolutely everyone. Mariah is noticeably absent from her videos, which kinda makes me think she's a fan. One of her older videos is about JP dumping Mariah where she only had nice things to say about M. But she's much more ratchet now. There have been a few Mariah scandals since that video and she hasn't covered any of them, except here where she goes in on Stellar. I wish she'd cover more Mariah stories, even if it means dragging her.

BTS (92,679)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
I just saw an article on BuzzFeed about how the BTS fans donated to a charity James Cordon supports because they appreciated that he was a good host to them when they went on his show. According to the article they do this a lot, sometimes "just because". It would be neat if the Lambily organized something like that. Maybe for her birthday we could donate to The Fresh Air Fund or Save the Music. I'm not on any social media anymore, so I can't do it, but maybe somebody who has a lot of Mariah fan followers can suggest it? Just an idea.

Exactly. It was the jarring difference between a squeaky clean pop balladeer and a hardcore street hip hop rapper that made the Fantasy remix different from the previous R&B and hip hop collaborations. Heavy D and MC Lyte weren't hardcore rappers (like ODB) and were considered pretty safe mainstream wise.
I think Mariah took more of huge musical risk (at the time) with blending mainstream Pop and gritty Hip Hop, her impact helped bridge the gap between hip hop and the mainstream, which is why Fantasy is considered the groundbreaking moment that ushered in a new wave.

Re: Hidden song - Love Take Time (92,636) (92,671)

Love Takes Time was added to the album after the they had already started manufacturing the album. It's on all of the albums but it's not listed on dozens of copies and is basically a hidden track on those albums. Tommy was smart to include it on Mariah's debut because it would sound out of place on Emotions and it became her second #1.

Nice topic. For me some iconic shots of MC I love are the microphone pic from the debut album, the Rainbow album cover, and the Merry Christmas album cover and associated pictures from the shoot.

On the matter of Susannah's remark about iconic photoshoots, which would be your favourite? My top 3 is:
- The artwork for the Butterfly album. - The shoot she did with Karl Lagerfeld for W Magazine. - All the artwork for the TEOM album and singles. I believe during that era her management hit all the right notes. Lol.

Music critics and journalists have called the Fantasy Remix the most important recording of her career which speaks for itself. She made it the norm because of her massive crossover appeal.

Touring (92,665)
by Will from Australia

It's funny but years ago I always wanted Mariah to do more tours and would have given anything to see the Daydream tour but she never came to my country. Now (after attending four concerts in three countries) I wish she'd give the tours a break and concentrate on making music. But I get that she needs it as touring is the main source of income vrs new music.

Salaam and Amy Winehouse made magic together. Timeless music. He also made very respectful mixes of some of Marvin Gaye's songs on his posthumous record released last year. Guy is very good at what he does. He'd do very well with Mariah.
