It's different from how it was in 2001 when Loverboy entered the chart at 4,528 and lambs went nuts being [sic] multiple copies of the single to help her out. I was told a while back that if you are a crazy chart lamb and want to make a playlist with "AIWFCIY" and play it 24/7 like I have been doing on Tidal, make sure it's every other song because if it's the same song in a row it doesn't count the same as if it was "AIWFCIY" - "Oh Santa" - "AIWFCIY". Except I do believe iTunes and digital sales are still a factor, hence why AIWFCIY is not #1 and ahead of Weeknd this week, since it's higher in both streaming and airplay, just not sales. But yes streaming is the major driver of the charts nowadays. This is already all more than I was expecting but I really really really hope it continues spiking next week to hit the top. Finally. "AIWFCIY" has been #1 in streaming for two weeks now, and it is only growing as Christmas approaches. Sales have also increased by 60%. "AIWFCIY" is also ahead of "Heartless" on radio and will dominate it at least until Christmas. The power of streaming is doing this. iTunes is turning out to be a non-factor. The time is now. Being #3 this early means that she would be #1 next week, and probably stay there at least one more week. Should it happen, "AIWFCIY" would be what I'll call "the people's #1". It makes me happy the general public is taking it there. Just hope Billboard doesn't change its rule next year. If Mariah goes to #1 two years in a row with a 25-year old song, it would be a record almost impossible to break. Let's see how many "Lil Nas X's" catch up with that one.
