That wasn't even a first time. She announced Mariah at the Grammys as "Pariah Carey" in 1992.

In regards to Whoopi's comment, I heard about it and honestly I think that she was being shady as she can be at times. But we love everybody.

One Sweet Day / Daydream (90,515)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
I'm listening to this beautiful song right now and also it's not a song I listen daily, because it's so sad, I do miss those kind of songs. The "Butterfly" album may be her best as an artist, more creative with great lyrics, great videos and so on. But "Daydream" will always be my favorite. Maybe it's because it made me a fan of Mariah back in 95. Great memories. I will never forget how I thought this is an angel singing.

Did you also catch Whoopi throwing some shade? Someone said that Heartbreaker was 20 years ago, and Whoopi says "20 bodies ago".

So much movement (90,513)
by Ronnie from California
| |
|
|
Anyone else excited to see what this team has in store for this new era? I'm definitely feeling like Caution was a first installment to something big. Between OTR, Cosmo, SoSoDef documentary, Tik Tok, and that new alleged camp Mariah snippet for GMA, it seems like there is actual movement now. Perhaps we are gonna piggy back off Merry Christmas' 25th anniversary for some momentum to alleviate the weightlessness. Mariah, we're rooting for you.

Sounds like a flop. Morning talk shows are not guaranteed hits. Mimi should not do that moment. Not until season three, if there is one.

The new Jerry O'Connell show (90,511)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|

Did anyone watch The View today with Jerry O’Connell as guest? There was a lot of Mariah focus, I love how he dances out to Heartbreaker. He was so kind and generous about his experience with her. His "new Nick Cannon" joke was funny. Do you think Mariah will be his surprise first guest when his show debuts? Jerry is taking over Wendy’s TV time slot, now that she’s wrapping it up. It’s a good slot. It would be a cute look on Mimi as well. Helping out a friend.

I like you Andrew. Where you a gifted student in school? I knew if anybody would call me out on my Caution Part 2 prediction it would be you. I know everybody thinks I am a little out there, but I just get so excited when Mimi hits the studio. If you noticed, I really don't comment on anything except when she posts that she is in the studio or album predictions. We all have our Mariah Carey specialization on this board. MC16 is coming in October this year. Lol.

Nikki, I completely agree with what you said about MC writing her own script. She can be quite the media darling when she wants, and I think the press enjoys it when she goes off the normal and shows that she has a fun side. Great post.

So a couple of days ago it was Caution Part 2. Now you don't think that but another studio album is on the way. What happened in the real world to change your mind. Or is it just more useless pointless guesswork based on nothing? Thought so.

MClicious (90,504)
by Nikki from usa

I do like the fact MC put in her 2 cents, but I like the timing even more. When news first broke of Nas beating her record the headlines and stories talk about it like Mariah was some dragon he needed to slay to get the record. They talked about her like she was taken down or defeated in some way. Mariah's song is about death while Nas is riding a horse. Yes, times have changed. When Mariah weighed in with that cute meme she flipped the script. Suddenly, all the future headlines act like Mariah is a queen that gave Nas a knighting or something. She is no longer dethroned, but handed him her seat. As if she could've prevented it somehow, but chose to give him her record.
It's interesting how Mariah was able to change the perspective of the events. I wish she would do this more often and write her own script on how she wants to be perceived rather than allowing the media to have their frenzy like she usually does. Mariah doesn't have to do much, but the little things she does clearly have a big impact.

Mariah sort of participated in the Tik Tok Obsessed challenge while wearing jeans and a t-shirt. When was the last time Mariah Carey wore jeans and a t-shirt? I know it's Balmain but still? And she sang it live and sounded amazing.

Mariah in the studio (90,501)
by Bobby A from United States

Mariah being in the studio over course of three months is making me think she has a huge surprise coming soon. She is not saying much as to what she is working on except what she said in Barcelona. I don't think now it has anything do with a Caution part 2 but restarting her career with her 16th studio album and the end of her Epic Records contract. Caution made people and critics take notice to her music again to critically acclaimed reviews. One thing we can say is that Mimi knows how to reinvent herself.

OTR (90,500)
by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
| |
|

I have not heard the song as popular as it is. Personally I do not listen to the radio as much as I used to growing up because most of today’s music is not for me. Now that LNX has broken OSD’s record I hope that LNX can sustain a long lasting great career and not be known for just this one song and one achievement. On another note I am happy that MC was able to handle this moment with grace and how a legend on her level should have.

I appreciate the humor in MC's reaction to Lil' Nas X. She kept it classy and showed her maturity. Treat it like a holiday, MC.

Why should there be a separate category for sex? It's like saying that it is harder for women to achieve this it must be specially recognised. It is clearly not harder for women to achieve.

I in no way said or inferred that. And I have never said there was one rule for Mariah and another for every one else. Far from it. I criticise Mariah more than anyone else. Check your accuracy and wind your neck in.

Re: The record has been broken (90,488) (90,494)
by Licia from USA

I agree. Instead of being mad at her record being broken I choose to celebrate the fact that she held on to it for so long. With the way the industry has changed there probably won't be another song that will hold this particular record for 24 years. She didn't lose in my eyes and there's nothing to be mad about. if nothing else it makes me prouder of her and what she accomplished.
To add on to my previous comment. For the people who are mad at Lil Nas for what he achieved, Mariah went through the same thing when she got more number ones than Elvis and came second to The Beatles. Their fans thought her music was sh*t too and wasn't worthy. I can agree OTR is not the song I'd vote for to dethrone OSD even though I like it, but I won't act like him and his team didn't work just as hard to make the song a success as she has her whole career. Lets just be fair and let him have his moment. She was once in his shoes.
