With You video (84,724) by Special K from USA
Well it's about damn time Mariah put out a good, well shot, well directed, classy music video. I love it. With You is starting to grow on me now. Oh boy.

It has no storyline and captures beauty shots of Mariah. But at least it was way classier and shows her skinny legend self. I love LA.

Who is giving excuses? We are saying she ain't changing so why not move on? She's done the same s&@t for a minute now. Why stick around? You don't like the new music, don't like her writing, hate her vocals on record. Y'all go on a tangent when she lips (she's been doing this since 97 as you pointed out) and guess what, she's doing it even more now and surprise, will continue to do it. Hate how she dresses even though she's been wearing mermaid dresses since 1901 and had the twins out since she bought and paid for them. None of these things are new and she isn't reverting back to a better "version" of herself. I'm convinced you all just repeat the same thing but become more visceral with every response just to get likes. She can't sing like she used to and lips all the time. Where is the sham when she got blasted for the whole world to see during NYE. Everyone knows. Nobody cares.

Re: AMA / disgruntled fans sticking around (84,719) (84,721) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Randy, then you completely missed my point. My point is that people age and change differently. Just because Gladys can still sing like she used to, doesn't mean that every singer ever lived should have the same ability that many years into their careers. Federer has been in the top of tennis over a decade, does that mean that every tennis player that have been number 1 should have the same longevity?

If you think it's getting old hearing that she can't sing like 20 years ago because of age, how old do think it is to hear people like you rambling about how she should be able to sing? Listening to you guys is like listening to a person complaining about how awful it is being fat while eating a burger. Keep on following Mariah and keep on getting disappointed, you guys must be masochists.

Bahahaha, she bought him some choreography. Better that than boys bopping around, biting knuckles, popping collars and dusting off their nails.

Dude that 20+ years in the business excuse is getting old. Did you see Gladys sing last night? CeCe Winans sing last night? Watch Patti Labelle sing at the 2004 Divas concert, 44 years into her career. Watch Aretha at Divas Live in 98 sing 42 years into her career. Then go back and watch MC lip sync on Oprah in 97, 7 years into her career or sound a mess on The View singing Vision of Love in 98, 8 years into her career. Or wait, watch Whitney embarrass MC in 99 on the Oscars. Oh wait, MC's mic wasn't loud enough, she had a cold, she has nodules, didn't grow up in the church, is insecure, ear piece isn't working, has nuances in her voice other singers can't get, do I need to go on with the excuses?

Did someone on here criticize Carrie Underwood? (84,717) by Ethan from United States
I don't think so. Did I see it correctly that she stood in one place? So was it the "singing" or "moving" part a problem? Is delivering a "performance" (doing a choreography to a pre-recorded track or having a head microphone and pretending to sing) a norm these days? Gotta be consistent people. You can't have both ways.

Excuse you ma'am. My baby had a vision and he reached out to an Emmy award winning choreographer to help him create that vision. To me Tanaka, not Brianka or Taneke or whatever else you sorry individuals refer to him as, is very talented and selfless.

Can everyone please take a moment to read this (84,714) by Tevin from USA
Every once in a while I like to make a post on here, I believe that I'm in the moderate group with my messages. I like to stay optimistic like many of you who post on here, but I also am not afraid to say when I'm disappointed.

I am not happy with the AMA performance (for reasons that most people already mentioned) but like Randy, I am satisfied with Mariah's AMA performance. She did what she needed to do, with almost no public backlash.

Now here comes the bad part: I'm on Team Andrew. Though I don't always agree with his delivery of a message, for me and others on this board I believe he is saying what's in a lot of our hearts. We all love Mariah here, but we all know she can do better, whether it's just moving and interacting with the crowd more like at iHeart ABMB performance or working on her voice or public image.

I don't expect her to sound like the 90s heck not even 2005. But I, like most people watch the award shows to see people perform like Taylor, JLo, but I also watch to see people with talent sing, like Mariah and Adele.

What I'm getting at is this. If Mariah wants to retire or live off the gravy train then so be it. But if she keeps pretending like she wants to have another hit or great album and she keeps performing like this, then she is doing more of a disservice to herself. I'm happy to support her in whatever she decides but, it's sad when others (look on YouTube) can sing songs like ILT and Hero better than Mariah. I don't mean by tone but I mean being able to have the stamina, stay in key and not lip a single note while sounding good. The point is Mariah's voice is damaged, bad, but she can still do wonders with it, but she has to take steps to stop or prevent more damage, such as stop drinking alcohol before your performances and other things.

You might say "she can do whatever she wants, she earned it". That's fine and fair, but then Mariah shouldn't feel bad when she sings and her voice sounds the way it does lately when she actually sings live, and when she gets called out for it by fans and the public.

Final point, everyone who says they don't understand why the haters keep coming back to post on here when Mariah is going to do whatever she wants. I would ask you to look in the mirror. Ask yourself why do you keep reading and coming back to comments from people like Andrew, when you know his stance on most things?

So webmaster sorry for the long rant. But I feel you should continue to let people like Andrew post on here, it adds a nice balance, and we are all adults here, we can skip post if we want, we are not forced to read them.

Take care everyone, and I love feedback, can you tell me if you agree or disagree with what I'm saying. Thanks

Re: Mariah's top efforts (84,661) (84,712) by Bill from the UK
I can never hear enough of AIWFCIY (play it all year round, every single day, no joke). Discovering the "extended version" with the extra vocals after the fade out and the scatting at the end was a gift. Hearing the hidden whistles way in the background of the bridge after they were extracted in a YouTube video added a whole new "wow factor" for me in terms of what MC puts into her records. The backing singers, the lyrics, the sleigh ride pace, the dynamic vocal delivery, the acapella opening, the Phil Spector wall of sound, the perfect chord progressions, the glam rock of it all... there's a reason it is her most popular song, there's a reason it's her signature song, there's a reason it will outlive us all. It is a perfect composition. It's single handedly the best thing she has ever done, and no matter what happens now or in the future, she will always have this to her name, so she will always be brilliant. It is timeless, and it is one of only a handful of songs that I would consider to be perfect in every way (the others being Unchained Melody, What a Wonderful World, and Can't Help Falling In Love).

With You retake (84,711) by Liz Archer from Sweden
A few days later and after seeing the AMA performance (which was beautiful staged) the song "With you" is growing on me. I still don't think it's a great lead song simply because it's such a slow moving song. Her voice sounded strained, I wondering if the old strength and sound she used to have is gone. Feel sad about that but MC still sounds ok. Just a tad different now. Still a fan, even if I sometimes criticize some things. I believe in renewing yourself and being a better self.

Re: This message board is sad (84,679) (84,710) by Nicole from US
I think it's not all negative. I mean if we can speak with Mariah herself or even people around her, it won't be hard to tell her our frustrations, suggestions and ideas. This board is a means for everyone to share opinions or critiques because as lambs we all know how it is to stick with Mariah for a very long time. We know what she could do and we want her to win. After all the things she has been through we want her to be at the top of her game to prove these people that she is one of the best there is. And then that would preserve her legacy. Then she could retire perhaps. We want her to get the respect that she deserves. I mean I'm speaking on my behalf. I love her since the beginning and I have seen her dominate the music industry. It is sad to see this nonbelievers on Twitter saying BS about her. I want her to redeem herself and put them all to shame.

Re: AMA / disgruntled fans sticking around (84,707) (84,708) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Randy, Mariah's voice is in the shape it is because of nature. Yes, it was s freak of nature, now it's not. It's not Mariah's fault her voice has detoriated, it's her genes, age, nature. Some people age really well, while others seem to get old fast, some people gets gray hair at 25, others at 45, some people have perfect vision untl they die, others need glasses along the way. I think it's cruel, and irrational to demand of Mariah to be the freak of nature she once was. If Usain Bolt kept on running until he was fifty, I doubt he would manage to win the Olympics every fourth year.

Think how imaginably cruel it would have been, if people around you demanded of you to have the same skills the rest of your life. It's an impossible demand, it's like telling a person to get taller, it's impossible. I'm sure people here feel a bit sad about something they used to do, or hair they used to have, or the beauty of youth you no longer have. Think about Mariah herself, and thoughts she has had about her own voice, I'm sure she remembers the feeling when she hit those notes, and the sadness she must have felt remembering those times. And her we are, demanding her to do so again. It's like a horror movie, I demand of you to look and act and sing like you did 20 years ago, impossible.

AMA / disgruntled fans sticking around (84,707) by Randy from USA
Let me put a stop to this dispute, as we all know who has 18 #1 posts with a 7 noctave voice and is the biggest selling mefail artist in history. Me. Now I know, my fellow rejects: Adam, Andrew, Edward, This is ghm may tie me to a chair in a big empty mansion and beat me up for saying this but: My bar has been set so low that I thought she did a good job at the AMAs she didn't embarrass herself and as a very public fan on social media, she didn't embarrass me. No one hit me up to criticize her or had a snarky thing to say to me. She did what she needed to do. Appear to sing and not appear washed up or have severe technical difficulties. Now for those who don't understand why people who criticize MC stick around. Let's get with the criticism. This is Mariah Carey. You do realize at one time she was considered a freak of nature, seventh wonder of the world vocalist, the best singer amongst the likes of Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and one of the heirs to Aretha and Patti's thrones. She was voted by MTV as the greatest voice in the last 22 years 13 years into her career. So someone that is a living legend and an icon for her voice should be able to stand up and sing a simple song right? It was heartbreaking for me to see CeCe Winans and Gladys Knight sound like themselves and they've been singing just as long if not longer than MC. But here you come with she has nodules, her ear monitor wasn't working, the casket was right in front of her, her corset was too tight, she didn't get 8 hours sleep, she's insecure, there are nuances in her voice that most people won't get but people understand belters with a church background, her humidifier wasn't working, she is getting a divorce, she has food poinsoning, she's bipolar, she's insecure and has stage fright, she was at the fresh air fund and they were pumping smoke into the room and it killed her voice, her background singers were singing her part, she didn't want to upstage Aretha and be disrespectful. Did I get them all? I've never seen a legendary singer give so many excuses or have fans that created so many excuses. And we are talking about the iconic MC, not marginal Brandy Monica Keyshia Cole etc. The top of the heap and she can't sing anymore? So why stay? We are an emotional bunch of people. You would have to be to be a Mariah Carey fan. What 20 year old writes a song like Vanishing? How could a ditzy diva could compose Looking In, Close My Eyes, Outside, Petals, Reflections (Care Enough), Twister, Through The Rain, Languishing, Camouflage or Right To Dream? We know what's there. And we have an emotional investment. If you even think of the fun songs, ABMB, Heartbreaker, Honey or Touch My Body, they take you back to a moment in time. So to end this before Eric cuts me off. We all want MC to win and the frustrating thing is that she seems to be doing things that are self sabotage. But for the level of vocal genius, songwriting ability and nostalgia, there is no one else for us to go to. So we're going to keep on keeping on until she has another genius moment because we Can't Let Go. And we shouldn't have to sit on the sidelines and be silent because our love has been proven. All we're asking is for her to make records and sing them. Which she claims is her first love.

Positivity (84,705) by Ronnie from California
I somewhat have stopped being interested to negative lambs' repetitive arguments that seem to consume their every thought regarding (what they believe other lambs label her as) "the infallible Mariah". We do not think Mariah is perfect but we do not focus on things that we have already accepted and no longer get upset about. And after systematically lip-syncing for a decade (+), one should have moved on long ago. I am open to criticism but constant negativity that dwindles in vain irks me. We see enough of that "bull" outside of the fanbase. I sought lambily communities (not just on these archives) to escape the repetitive goats, who are ironically just as prefictable as Mariah herself. For anyone interested, I'm in a lambily group chat that is a nice balanced mix of perspectives.

Re: This message board is sad (84,699) (84,704) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Adam, I would have thought it was boring as well if everybody here praised Mariah no matter what. But many of the comments here aren't honest opinions, it's people using their clever little minds to write negativity in the most creative way. To read some of the comments, especially Andrew's, is as ridiculous to read as when Trump is praising his own work, where everything is the greatest, huge, the best in the world, but in the opposite way. If you are trying to make a sport out of how humiliating you can write about Mariah, then I'm sure there are groups on Facebook or whatever that this will be much more appreciated. The exaggerated negativity here pushes people away from this message board.
It's funny you are defending Andrew, that he can say and do whatever he likes, and brush off the critics like dust. Well, I would have said the same to Mariah, treat the critics like dust, and Andrew would have been brushed off Mariah's shoulders in a heart beat.
