Caution next singles (86,580)
by MC1989 from Spain
| |
|
|
Caution is doing well in the Asian market, in the US and in Australia, among other countries. I like all the songs on the album except Stay Long Love You. Sounds like a filler.
Everybody seems to enjoy "A No No", but I don't like the melody, and it surprises me that the lyrics were written by 9 people. I don't like Lil' Kim nor Cardi B, but I'm ok with the upcoming remix, though I think "Caution", "Giving Me Life" and "8th Grade" - with those harmonic wistles and that beat towards the end - should be released as singles, with a different type of video for each. A No No remix could attract some younger fans, but it won't bring anything new to me.
I hope Mariah or her team listen to the fans and release a good video for "Giving Me Life", as long as it's a fan favourite, and its sound and length are perfect for a mini movie kind of video. Then, she could release a radio edit version - although the best part of the song comes with that guitar riff and Mariah's whistles notes at the end.
I wish MC doesn't stop promoting Caution on behalf of her AIWFCIY upcoming tour. I'm fed up with the "Queen Of Christmas" thing, she's much more than that, and she has just released a very good album with great reviews from the critic and the media, even here in Spain, some of the most important newspapers like El PaĆs are writting about her comeback in a very good way.
I think this is the right moment for releasing new singles with new videos. If she waits until January, AIWFCIY will eclipse her new material and she'll still be regarded as a Christmas act. I would love AIWFCIY becomes her 19th number one in the US, but I don't want her to be regarded as a one hit wonder (I know that hits like Hero, Without You and My All are worldwide known, but at least here in Spain, as in many countries, the only song that gets a lot of radio airplay every year is AIWFCIY).

Lil Kim's manager has again confirmed that the remix will happen, and he tagged Mariah, Lil Kim, Cardi B and Missy Elliott on the post. It's a lot of people so I hope Mariah still has the spotlight. Lil Kim plus Missy reminds me of the Lady Marmalade song with Mya, Pink and Christina Aguilera (and its amazing video).

Andrew, Infamy is defined as an evil reputation brought about by something grossly criminal, shocking, or brutal, an extreme and publicly known criminal or evil act, or the state of being infamous. Suprised your self professed superior intllect allowed you to make such a glaring grammatical error.

Caution: a track a day (1 of 7) (86,574)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

|
Much has been said about the 4 songs that have come out prior to November 16, so I just want to share my thoughts on the seven other songs that we all heard at the same time as the entire world when Caution dropped.
Runway This song sounds like a slightly updated version of the sound that dominated the charts a decade ago (think young Chris Brown, Keri Hilson, Jordin Sparks, young Rihanna, Jesse McCartney, Ne-Yo) when light R&B was pop. The Butterfly interpolation marks the first time she has sampled herself on a loop (she has previously referenced past hits by repeating lines or mentioning song titles, particularly on Subtle Invitation and The Impossible, Dedicated). It's weird when nothing in the entire song's melody resonates as much as the sped-up Butterfly snippet used in the background - that is the real hook in this song. It's the obligatory sweet, uplifting track, but lacks the conviction and emotional gravitas of past similarly-themed songs such as Through The Rain, Make It Happen, Heavenly, Anytime You Need A Friend, etc. To be honest I was bummed when I first heard it because like many others I was lowkey hoping for it to be Mariah's first catwalk bop. It is by no means a bad song, and some would probably rather have it replace any song track they deem is weakest on the album, but it's just a serviceable track that plays like a poorer version of Just Stand Up. Its urgency and tempo, though, would have lent a nice change of pace had it actually made the final tracklist. It's okay, but does not quite fit the overall slinky sound and vibe of the album.

One bit of lamb posiivity bandwagoning I am happy to jump on is the AIWFCIY getting to number one thing. It's her last chance for another number one. Wouldn't it be magical? If Glitter can get justice, they, hey, why not one of the most famous songs on the planet, if not the most famous - for what famous song gets its infamy repeated every single year of your life?

Eddie, call it Caution, call it Caption, call it Cartoon, call it what you want - you know as well as I do that the album is dead in the water. Its low sales are going to dramatically fall off. I did predict Mariah releasing a Summer album next year (yeah, "nobody reads my posts" but they regurgitate my shit) which may be the new music you are looking for. Pray, if she does release it, it isn't the total snooze fest that the back end of Cartoon turned out to be. Never has Mariah released anything so soporific. There is no market for this stuff.

"thank u, next" music video (86,569)
by Malcolm from Asia
| |
|
|
I hope to God that Mariah will not hold another grudge to Ariana because of the upcoming full-length Mean Girl inspired music video of "thank u, next" haha. By the way, Ariana just praised Mariah yet again by commenting "peep me and the queen" because of some Ariana fan who posted the Spotify chart position on UK which is "thank u, next" and AIWFCIY are #1 and #2 respectively. Really hoping for a collab or even just a friendship between the two like what Patti is to Mariah.

SiriusXM full interview (86,568)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
Another great interview. Glad the full interview is available. Sounds like the label allowed her to release an experimental album of her career since she's always been required to focus on making hits. Glad she finally got a chance to do so. Glad the focus of the interview questions are more towards her songwriting and not shade and diva demands. I can hear her talk about her creative process all day. Interesting that the label wanted to release the album in time for Black Friday but missed the mark for China's gigantic singles' day. The Asian market is her biggest one and a new song wouldn't have hurt and the album wasn't out until 5 days after the event. Great interview. It's like we have the old Mariah back after Butterfly. Great answers. Articulate while still cracking jokes. Humble and discussing her creative process on all these great songs she has written.

Caution promotion is on hold until next year. It's better this way since it's Christmas time and she's booked for concerts this whole month. Her team needs to put their focus on AIWFCIY as it will debut on the Hot 100 at #29 and we aren't even in December. If this song is going to hit #1 it's now or never. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are in the same tracking week this year. The song peaked in streams on Christmas but Christmas Eve and Day were on different tracking weeks so the numbers were split. Mark my words. This song will have a new peak this year. We need to wait until December 14th to start a campaign as Ariana is releasing her video soon to hold on to number 1 with additional streams. After Christmas she will be back to the States and she can film and promote A No No remix video until her Vegas shows in February.

Justice for AIWFCIY (86,565)

Hey guys the song is rising so fast, faster than ever. It definitely has a strong chance of out-peaking its top 5 peak last year. It's already number 7 on iTunes and it's still November. How did this song, arguably one of Mariah's most iconic, never reach number one? Maybe this year? You all need to start streaming it on Spotify, and hopefully casual listeners will discover Caution in the process. Can you imagine this song hitting number one? That kind of media buzz could spill into A No No. That thing is such a bop.

Christmastime Is In The Air Again (86,564)

I said I was going to listen to the Christmas albums last week but I didn't actually pop them in until today. And now, I'm down a YouTube hole. Honestly I don't mind because it's better than killing Caution already. I thought I would share one of my favorite performances of Mariah of all time. Something magical to me.

The Distance hasn't been confirmed as the second single by Epic, Mariah, or her team. With With You gaining momentum on Adult Contemporary and R&B radio they're probably waiting for it to peak before releasing the second single. I think they might release A No No and The Distance simultaneously to different formats.

Where is the video? (86,562)
by george golden from uk

Where is the video for The Distance? She has a critically acclaimed album and she and her team are making the wrong decisions again. I hope she want abandon this album because it did not open at number one. It has got huge potential with the right singles. The Distance should have a killer video and then A No No remix video and single released and then 8th Grade as the last single. She could have some major hits with these songs. The reason the album opened with low numbers is because the wrong lead single was released. GTFO should have been the original lead single. With a great and interesting video it would have gathered a lot more interest. Her vanity underwear beauty shot alcohol drinking videos is a turn off for a lot of people.

No, he just receives credit for providing additional production. Missy could add some flavor on the remix hook. She has a very distinctive voice. She can add a short verse at the end of the remix like she said on Not Tonight' "Y'all aren't gonna leave me just to be singing hooks."
