Re: MET Gala (82,341) (82,343)

Mariah has never really been known for her fashion sense. To be honest half the stuff that the people who do get invited wear isn't that great either. She's not missing much. Lol. Once Rihanna got there it was pretty much done.

I don't think so. She never attended any of the previous editions. Maybe the powers that be at Vogue don't consider her as a fashion icon.

What to say? Paying 1500 dollars to have a very brief photo opp (one can hardly refer to the situation as a meet & greet) is a bit out there and all but democratic. On the other hand if they would charge a more friendly amount it would become an overtly time consuming and difficult affair as hundreds of people would buy those tickets. I do like Andrew's suggestion of a lottery but I doubt if this is doable from a safety point of view. I have no doubt that the meet and greet ticket buyers are screened by Mariah's security team beforehand. Nobody wants to take the risk of letting some lunatic close to Mariah (albeit that her team over the past years consisted of many a crazy bugger). Anyway if a fan is willing to pay those prices, let them be. Honestly I wouldn't hesitate a moment but my bank manager begs to differ.

Honey B Fly gave away all the meet and greets free during the CB tour I'm told and the Daydream tour. Lambs are not "idiots" for spending there [sic] money to meet Mariah and take a photo with there [sic] icon. It's there [sic] money honey. That was mean and uncalled for. Allow people to be great. Calling friends/lambs "idiots" again is disrespectful.

Honey, don't hate on Janet. She deserves it every bit as Mariah does. The real travesty here is that J.Lo got the same honor in 2014, even before Celine and Cher and Janet. Clearly this is not based on records set or broken. Mariah's turn will come, and it will even be sweeter then.

I agree. I was about to write it should be done as a lottery that you choose to enter when you buy the tickets - even making it exclusive for fan club members, seeing as they're already paying a premium for a key ring and a pink notebook.

I suggested a lottery. What a gesture of goodwill that it would be. Mariah should have an app that tracks her tours, sells tickets and merchandise, links to YouTube and so on. In addition to an actual licensed MC app the gesture of meeting her for free in a draw would be such a positive PR move. I would do it like this: apply one hour before the show start-time with your ticket number and get the result 30 minutes before. Approach them and be wined and dined. What a great PR move. What a great inclusive move for the lambs. "No proper shoes upon my feet, sometimes I couldnt even eat." Have you forgotten yourself, Mariah? I really should be your manager. But it's not about ideas, it's all about the Benjamins. N'est-ce pas?

I didn't know she had a new song out. I just listened to it, and it makes "I Don't" sound like Hotel California. What could she have been thinking to listen to that and go "Yep. That's perfect. Release it."

100%. I really miss the days when a song charted because it was well composed and the singer gave a great interpretation. The 90s was brilliant because it was like every genre could peacefully co-exist. You had the big voiced divas like Mariah, Whitney and Celine. You had dance outfits, grunge acts, indie bands, and legendary artists from the 60s and 70s still able to chart and perform well. I'm not sure when it all started falling apart but it was some time in the early 2000s. If you have to make the v-sign with your fingers and stick your glitter encrusted tongue in between it to sell a record, then take me to the King.

I don't know how to say this nicely, so I'll just say what I think. I think anyone is an idiot if you pay 1000 to 1500 dollars to meet Mariah for just 20 to 30 seconds. That's 50 dollars per second.

Christina Aguilera has a great voice. However she is no Mariah Carey. She always from the beginning of her career copied Mariah Carey. Mariah is often imitated but never duplicated. There is only one Mariah Carey.

My meet and greet was pretty much: pay $1500, you wait for her for 2 hours and socialize with the lambs and they offer you a bottle of water, Stella went around hugging people. Then 2 hours later the diva arrives fully glam, each person gets about 30 seconds to take a pic, say you love her or you love this/that song and it's over. Mariah looks dazed/loopy the entire time. It's weird.

The thing with the tongue in the video is more than trash. Madonna and Lady Gaga are already the ones for "shocking" videos. We don't need more entertainers like that. I really miss the time when it was all about good music. And the female singers didn't need those videos for selling. I know those times are gone, but I'm happy to have witnessed greater times in music.

I can't take Christina and Britney seriously as artists. They are just entertainers. Christina had the better voice than Britney, but when "Dirty" was released I lost every interest in her. Christina copied Mariah from the beginning. She has some catchy songs but she'll never be in the liga like Alicia Keys for example musically. The new song and video is boring to me. Luckily everyone has a different taste.

Back To Basics was actually good; it remains her most cohesive album to date. A little overlong, but still good. Not everyone can pull off an entirely retro-themed album complete with an image rehaul and everything, and that she decided to take that plunge in 2006 took major balls. It paid off and still managed to sell well, especially for an album of such sound. It was after that that things really started to go downhill - fast. Bionic was a very uneven album with clunky singles and where many of the best tracks were pushed aside as bonuses. It came out at a time when GaGa and Ke$ha were ruling the charts with better and/or catchier material, so that most definitely didn't help. And Lotus was, well, it was what it was. I have a sinking feeling that Liberation is gonna end up worse than Katy's Witness or JT's Man Of The Woods commercially. Let's see how it does critically.

I appreciate the (not entirely) new direction she's taking, and I like the song's "chorus", if you can call it that. The featured rappers just ruin it for me. Their appearances in the song are just jarring, they practically hijacked it. And the video, while interesting and colorful, seems to be inspired by this weird mouth-tongue-lube fetish. Christina's lead off singles are usually not the best songs on the album, so I still have great hopes for Liberation.
