Re: Celebrating women (81,356) (81,357)
by Webmaster Eric from the Netherlands

You say: "It claims Boyz II Men have the longest running #1 on the Hot 100 with End of the Road which is false." That is not what Billboard said: "Debby Boone's You Light Up My Life spent an unprecedented 10 weeks atop the Hot 100 in 1977, breaking the record for most weeks at No. 1 on the chart. The record stood for 15 years, until Boyz II Men's End of the Road shattered it and spent 13 weeks atop the chart." You say: "Also, they say she's the 'female' with the most #1's instead of the fact she's the 'solo' artist with the most #1's regardless of gender." That's not wat Billboard said: "Beginning with her first No. 1 single Vision of Love in 1990, Mariah Carey has earned a staggering 18 No. 1 singles on the Hot 100, the most of any solo artist in the 60-year history of the Hot 100. Among all acts, only The Beatles have more No. 1 hits, with 20." There's no mention of "female".

Celebrating women (81,356)

I have to say I'm a bit surprised by the article. It claims Boyz II Men have the longest running #1 on the hot 100 with End of the Road which is false. I'm also shocked on how Mariah was short changed and how Rhianna was mentioned, but there was no accomplishment attached. It just seems like Mariah's longest running #1 was skirted around. They sort of nod to it by proclaiming Houston has the longest running #1 by a solo artist and that her record wasn't broken. True, but also misleading. Whitney's song is so iconic that it is surprising to think that Mariah's WBT actually matched it in weeks at #1. Why are people skirting around giving credit where it's due? In the spirit of that, I feel the need to mention Mariah is the first female to debut at #1, has the most #1 debuts of any artist, first female to have a #1 for every year of a decade, have the song of the decade for 2 decades in a row, along with the longest running #1 hit in history. Also, they say she's the "female" with the most #1's instead of the fact she's the "solo" artist with the most #1's regardless of gender.

Mariah's kids (81,355)
by Andrew from UK

Some people here pay way too much attention to Mariah's children. It's kind of creepy. They are six year old kids that have nothing to do with you. Surely I can't be the only one that thinks it is weird that some people pay them so much attention with overly affectionate comments. Maybe reign it in a bit.

So far I am liking the new AI. It is very unfortunate that producers and the talent fell apart during the Mimi era of Idol. Katie Perry is over paid, but she seems to be doing a good job. I like Lionel and Luke too.

I've seen them already thanks. Roc isn't trying to hear what Nick has to say about his boots. Roe Roe is a sweetheart. Nick isn't going to let her out of the house until she's 40. I can already see it.

Licia you have a great taste. Just like Mariah. Honestly I didn't know most of the songs Mariah used for a sample, but I discoverd a lot of them. They are all fantastic. At the moment I really enjoy "Funkin' for Jamaica" by Tom Browne. MC's version "Don't stop" is still grooving. "Last night a DJ saved my life" is also such a classic tune.

Yeah I wish that too. I was watching "The ones" [sic] DVD and I am still amazed of her older videos and live performances. Never tired of it (after watching a hundred times.) Lol. If I think of the hidden gems, that would be a dream if they get released. Plus the "Charmbracelet tour" DVD. Mariah owns this "treasure" there must be a way to release a cd plus DVD package with rare and hidden music for her fans.

This is true. Masters are owned by whoever pays for their recording. But this also comes down to what's stipulated in the contract. No doubt Mariah didn't have enough bargaining power to claim any rights on the masters back then. But now, I would be very surprised if she didn't demand it.

There's a website called whosampled.com. Type in MC and it will bring up the songs she used a sample for (credited and not), as well as who sampled her material.

Masters (81,339)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|
|
Masters are the original sound recordings from which all other prints are copied. Masters are owned by either the artist or the label, depending which one paid for the recording/studio time and such. Mariah is usually at least co executive producer on her projects, which likely means she owns her masters. Her contracts tell the whole/true story. None of us know what those say. Masters are different from copyrights which belong to the songwriters/music creators.

Usually when an artist buys the rights to their material it will include everything. Released and unreleased and any demo or working copies.

Anyway here's more. Irresistible used You Know How We Do by Ice Cube or The Westside Connection, Did I Do that used It Ain't My Fault by Master P, Heartbreaker remix is It Ain't No Fun by Snoop Dogg (I think that he used this sample from another song, but I can't think of the name), and My All remix is Stay a Little While by Loose Ends. That's all I can think of right now. I shall be back. Lol.

Article: Is V Magazine trolling us with this Mariah Carey cover? (81,333)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
A simple rule of the common law has always been that everyone enjoys the label of innocence until such time as somebody proves their guilt. But looky here, hundreds of years of common law undone by lunatics in just one or two. It is incredible how we have forgotten the foundation of modern Western Society in the face of caterwauling from Social Justice Warriors. Accusations of guilt, no matter how many or how loud, are accusations merely until substantiated with evidence. And further, if somebody makes an unwanted advance toward you, walk out. Do not sell your soul to the devil then ask the good Lord for pity. Another simple rule.
