Aretha's funeral performances (83,543)
by Chicago Lamb from USA
| |
|
|
Jennifer Hudson rocked, Ariana Grande was awful. Sorry, a smart singer doesn't do a song unless they can bring something to it. Ariana is cute and all, even competent at what she does. But she had no business singing "Natural Woman". Not what Aretha would have wanted.

New snippet (83,541)

Has anybody seen the video of Mariah singing "I know you thought it was a sample" over and over again? A male's voice can be heard saying "hey Mimi". The video originated from Nick's Instagram with him listening to it with his posse. The beat and vocals gave me chills just listening to her sing.

Agressive music (83,540)
by Matthew from USA
| |
|
|
The only way JD's description makes any sense is if he meant aggressive production. Is aggressive production on the next Mariah album a bad thing? Not necessarily. If we are being honest, production is king nowadays. It's what's driving most current music. It used to be that vocalists would dial back production so that the vocal could be front and center. But even today's vocalists like Beyonce and Ariana have very "agressive" production. In fact, Ariana's latest album could almost be called the Ariana and Pharell album, since his production is doing the most on quite a few of the tracks. So if Mariah gets aggressive with it, she would only be doing what is current. There are other reasons she might lean hard on production for the next album. If the production is doing the heavy lifting, she can take it easy with the vocal. Also, her lover and confidante is a dancer. It's likely he would give her positive feedback on music with aggressive production, since that would give him and the dancers a little more to do than her past songs allow. On the negative side, it does mean those expecting the 90's ballad queen where production is dialed back for vocals will be disappointed. But given her vocal inconsistency lately, that might be a good thing. In any case, I am very ready for the next chapter.

Respect vs ridicule: the narrative of Mimi (83,539)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
I wrote recently that Mariah has become so used to playing the Mariah Carey characature she developed when the voice started to crack that she is afraid to stop doing it. I believe this is true. I think she has lost any semblance of introspection and is unable to fully see how she is viewed by the world in terms of respect vs ridicule. This fixed-mental-grinning, head-tilting, good-side-only-showing, shoulders-back-tits-hanging-out, tippy-toeing-with-man's-hand-guiding, champagne-swigging, tacky-shit-flashing, clown-make-up-wearing, toy-boy-shagging characature should go. The public may know her for it, but that doesn't mean they respect her for it. The tabloids only feed the public what they want. Mariah is hopefully still a decent, grounded, pleasant person underneath. When she looked to the sky during the Dickhead Clark debacle I saw someone with no pretence, no bullshit, nothing to hide behind. She needs to find that humility again. That surely would be "The Reinvention of Mimi": doing away with all the crap and making people respect her as a person, not just for her music. Which, frankly, is becoming harder and harder to rely upon as the years pass by. Were I MC's manager, the years approaching wouldn't pass the way they've come to start.

With Vegas starting again, I think she had no choice but to not go. Although she did send white roses in a form of a cross and a beautiful note.

#Beautiful airplay (83,536)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
It is hard to believe that #Beautiful was the last big radio hit MC has had. Despite being MC's best song since Obsessed, the only reason it did so well on the charts was because Def Jam had a promo with radio stations to play it every hour all day when it was released. Why did it stall at number #15? It will be interesting to see what radio promo Epic/Rod Nation comes up with for the first single. I just hope radio embraces her with the new single. She needs a big performance after it is release to maximize the song's potential on the charts. For example - Carrie Underwood's Cry Pretty at that big country awards show. My has gone right now which one. Lol.

Mimi should stop feeding the tabloids her fictitious narrative, or should I say contrived moments. The Daily Mail has been acting like her personal companion since Stella and the paid escort came to the forefront. It will be interesting to see if Mimi has real interviews again and keep her stories straight.

"I wish Mariah would take control of her own narrative and stop letting the tabloids write it for her." What a crock of shit. Mariah has created her own narrative and the tabloids have mocked it, and, arguably, quite rightly. She is not a victim of anything else but her own bad decisions and bad attitude. Crock of shit.

Epic was never going to promote Infinity or I Don't. The fact that both singles charted on the Hot 100 with no support from Epic and limited promo on Mariah's behalf is impressive. Besides, Mariah is no longer relying solely on Epic for support, she has Roc Nation backing her. I think a Top 20 hit on the Hot 100 and a Top 5 hit on the R&B chart is possible.

The misconception (83,527)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|

I feel really bad for people getting their hopes up. This isn't the 90's anymore. Even if she releases the greatest music of her career it will hardly get any airplay and her label has proven they're not willing to promote her. Mariah's best case scenario is the branding and hype from Jay's people and even that would be short-lived. The "hot" artists of today release new music left and right and only 1/3 of it becomes hits. This is a different climate. Artists almost release music itself as a promotional vehicle for branding themselves as a product so they can use other avenues to make money. When your likes depend a great deal on public opinion and how commercially successful something is than you're leading yourself up for disappointment. No matter what Mariah releases, good or bad, it will put her back in the spotlight. I just hope she uses all of this attention to promote herself as the creative songwriter and producer she is. She does have the perfect story of "the dream" as someone who went from rags to riches off the back of following her passions and using her amazing talent to make it happen. More than anything, I wish Mariah would take control of her own narrative and stop letting tabloids write it for her.

New remixes album (83,523)
by Tijl from Belgium
| |
|
|
All I want for Christmas - besides MC15 - is a new remix album post Charmbracelet. There are so many gems out there that occasionally even surpass the original songs. I still play the first remix album a lot especially the RnB disc. Isn't this the perfect moment to unlock the endeavours of the skipped "Angels Advocate" project if not the great remixes from TEOM and later eras? Bring it on MC.

I don't want her to drop hip hop. It goes very well with her vocal delivery. And rap tends to blend with her style seamlessly. She just needs a good update. I feel like this time we really could be getting a fresh approach. Her interviews sound very promising and she looks super hot in all her recent pics. One thing I hope is that we won't be coming on here to shred her to pieces. She's in a unique place in her career compared to other legends, needing to prove herself even to her most hardcore fanbase (us) despite having nearly 3 decades behind her. It's hard to please everyone, certainly fans who still remember how otherworldly she was in the 90s. I hope we will start appreciating her for who she is now and not forget the fact that we don't have many more Mariah albums waiting for us in the future. I can't wait to hear the new material and I hope it is well received by everyone.

Does anybody have a mp3 of this song from the VH1 Saves The Music special? This duet with John Legend is up there with Endless Love with Luther Vandross. Total classic vocal delivery by Mariah and John Legend.
