New album (109,717)

Bobby A, Edward is 100% right. Even if she released Fantasy right now it really wouldn't do much.
Secondly I think we need to trust their process. They have a plan plus they're probably still working a few things out. I'd rather she finish everything right than announce the album prematurely and then delay it later. Plus she's not going to have a mega pop star roll out.
6 weeks ago we thought she was done, that she'd never release anything again and that there was something gravely wrong with her. A week later she gave us a brand new single and said MC16 is on its way, did numerous radio appearances and BET, performed at Capital FM, released one of her better videos in the last 15 years, rpartaked in a confused chaotic song with Barbra, Walter and Ariana and then just released a remix ep with some pretty good remixes. All in the last 5 weeks after being mostly out of action for 7 years. Cut MC and Gamma some slack. She knows what she's doing. The next single will be out soon and so will the album announcement.
No amount of promotional blitz will make it perform along the level of the current stars but the music will be there for you to enjoy regardless.

I am trying to understand, but I just feel like something is off this month with the rollout of the album. I don't like this waiting game. Maybe a joint tour announcement with unlikely male pop artist would generate more buzz for MC16 and increase MC's streams.

Bobby A, Mariah is a legacy artist, just like many others were when she was on her prime. MC16 will probably come and go like "Caution" did. No matter how many appearances she makes, it won't make much of a difference. To be fair, she was promoting consistently when TD came out and, lipped or not, she put on a great and energetic performance at Summertime Ball in the UK. Other than her legacy fans, meaning us, nobody is out there craving new music from her. Her streaming numbers are an indication of what's going on, 2.5M in a month after a 7-year hiatus. As I stated before, unless she comes out with a banger featuring a big name like Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter or Taylor Swift, don't expect chart success. Always remember though that chart success does not necessarily a great album make. Enjoy the music. Winter is coming.

I don't think Mariah comes across well on T.V. appearances, though. (Except to the lambs.) Everyone asks her the same boring questions that we've all heard a hundred million times over the years. Or they're shady to her, like Oprah was when she interviewed her about her book when it was released. If the interviewer is shady to you, it kind of makes you look bad to the audience. IMO. Especially potential new fans who haven't heard of her. I do want to hear from her but from her own platform. Tell us what you want us to know. Make blogs for us, or vlogs.
I think a better marketing strategy would be to feature her songs on popular shows or movies. But good songs and on well written shows or movies. Mariah's songs speak for themselves. We've all experienced watching a movie or show and the song perfectly encapsulates the moment and you're bonded to that moment from then on. One example I can think of is the song Breathe Me by Sia, which was featured in the series finale of Six Feet Under.
Or have young beautiful people with storylines in her videos (with inserts of her singing in glamour poses if she wants). For example: Beauty School Dropout was supposed to be sung by Elvis so she could wear an Elvis-esque jumpsuit (like the one Britney Spears wore when she was promoting Live From Las Vegas) and recreate the video. Walking down the white stairs and there can be a beautiful young up-and-coming actress with pink hair paying Frenchie. I'm imagining the young Queen of Hearts actress from the Descendants movie.
I mean, not that exactly, but something like that.

Nick was a user and a childish clown. He used her more than every other man. It's a shame, his whole behaviour. He was good looking and for sure fun at the beginning. But his bad mouth was the worst, I was shocked how he talked about Mariah in interviews back then. It's clear he would "take Mariah back" immadiatley and at any time. Luckily Mariah will never ever take him back. He can manage his "tribe" with all the kids from different women, so he won't be lonely. I wish Mariah had children with a real humble man, who's true with an honest soul. But it's the opposite and that's so sad.

I will give him credit because if he didn't put in effort early on, Mariah probably wouldn't have kids right now. Initially, he was actually a solid match. He just started pursuing his academics and felt Mariah "couldn't keep up" and that the relationship was "stagnant". He most likely stumbled upon ideas about African chiefs who were genetically gifted and were allowed to procreate with anyone to produce strong children and strengthen the tribe. He clearly thinks it's him since he modeled his whole life after it, and tries to justify it because it was a "norm" back then. He now realizes it's the wrong idea to aspire to since he's been caught on record saying Mariah was the greatest and wishes he could have it all back. It's such a shame. It's way too late. All that so-called education he pursued just landed him into a being well-read idiot.

The new album is supposed to be a summery sound, well July is almost over I wonder what the roll out plan is and I was thinking I really hope the new album and what we heard about it turns out to be like E=MC2. I've been playing the album and it's still so fresh and experimental. Almost every song had single potential. I was also re-listening to For the Record and indeed what a record only MC has a legacy worth referencing in her own song. I absolutely love her doing the part where she word plays her own song titles, how I wish we had a music video of the song with her recreating her famous MV scenes from the songs mentioned. Anyway I'm rambling but yes I'm hoping for an album like that. It's peak summer vibes with songs like TMB, Cruise Control, IBLULT, FTR, Migrate, ITC. Even has the cheesy Love Story and Last Kiss which I know people hate on but I love it.

Welcome to the Twilight Zone, my dear. You've just stepped into the alternate-twin-universe version of the MCArchives Messageboard, where logic takes naps, reason time-travels, fetch did happen, Mariah made up the word emblazoned and the webmaster might actually be your cat. Be careful, things are not what they seem in here.

I think after TD didn't perform like MC and Gamma had hoped they are trying to regroup and come up with another plan to launch the album. August is almost here and it will be September 1st before we know it and it seems promos have stalled waiting for TD to become Touch My Body in 2025. I analyzed album roll out plans and promos for several artists who have albums coming out in August with a definite release date and most have been on various TV programs promoting their new albums. I think Gamma is going about rolling out MC16 all wrong. I hope with the 2nd single rollout that MC is on as many TV programs that she can make an appearance on and start promoting her new album. Just my two cents this weekend.

I wasn't aware of that, what a shame. The fact that Madonna, also signed to WB, was allowed to co-write while Mariah wasn't initially given that same allowance is absurd, almost blasphemous. I recall reading or hearing that Mariah's signing came down to a bidding war: Warner reportedly offered around $100K, and Sony countered with $300K, ultimately securing the deal. My numbers might be a little inaccurate, but it was something in that ballpark.

The reason Mariah didn't sign with Warners was because they would not let her write her own material. So she would have been another Whitney or Celine, with songs provided and selected for her, and she merely interpret them as a singer.

I tend to think the opposite, I don't think Nick was a good match for Mariah. Yes initially of course they had that sexual tension and the playful romance but I think Nick didn't respect Mariah's boundaries. She is quite private yet he outed her phone number when she was pregnant, told people they make love to "Hero" and get blabbering about their personal life. It's also clear he gave Mariah reasons to believe he wasn't faithful because in the Barbara Walters interview Mariah already seemed checked out and says she trusts him "sometimes". And then we got MIAM which provided another side of how she was very lonely in the marriage, how he used her for fame and all that.

True. I always believed Nick is a godsend and actually did the impossible. She meant every word of that song. By 39, MC had probably already given up on starting a family. Her biological clock was basically out, and she'd lost trust in all men. But somehow, Nick broke through the cracks and not only earned her trust but reinvigorated her desire for family. They pursued having children together on a tight deadline (basically her last chance) and actually achieved it.
Even though, I resent Nick for being too deep into all the academia ideologies which then led him off the beaten path of fathering fatherless homes. I still am thankful he was instrumental for MC being a mother. He came just at the right time. I felt it extended Mariah's life.
I'll never forget what MC wrote about Roc and Roe, "Of all the many gifts God has blessed me with: my voice, my creativity, my strength - my children are a vision more beautiful than I could have ever conceived". She considers them on par with her God-given talents, which is so deeply beautiful.

Always Be My Baby (109,699)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
I was listening to Heart 90s today whilst driving home with the hood down and the hot sun beaming down on my shoulders. The DJ announced "a great song from Mariah Carey after the break" and inwardly rolled my eyes at the thought of Hero coming on the radio. Imagine my surprise when the strumming guitar of Always Be My Baby came on instead. Instantly I was transported back to 1996 when that song last received radio play here in the UK. I don't know what exactly the radio does to make a song sound so much brighter and better, but it sounded so good. I remember loving the cover of the CD single and the remixes too.
What did strike me though was that the lyrics have a new meaning now. Mariah and I were as one for a moment in time. I genuinely did think she'd always be mine. Then she wanted to free, I let her fly, and now she's dripped in Balenci with some hatin' ass hoes. But such is life. She'll always be a part of me.

Nick and his lifestyle is a nightmare. He only did damage to MC in private and in business. He's disgusting. The only good thing are indeed the children who I feel sorry for to have such a father. When they grew older they will have a lot of questions. I can only imagine what Mariah thinks about it.

- Mariah is not one person, but actually several persons playing the role of Mariah. Therefore, accounting for the extreme variations in appearance, personality and voice quality over the years and during short periods of time. - She is actually not a diva at all. But a pretty ordinary old soul at heart, just making up the diva persona to try to be interesting because at her heart she's a grounded, traditional, old school, values-driven, every day Long Island girl. - At the time, Tommy and Walter were the best darn things that she could ever imagine would (or that did) happen to her life and career. At the time. - The hurt that Nick Cannon has caused her with his 12 children and all the brief "interlude" relationships Mariah has had, hurt her far, far more than Tommy really ever did. - It would not have been such a bad life to stay at "Sing, Sing" and travel down that path. Not the life she wanted for herself, admittedly, but not a bad life in and of itself. - She has a great deal of regret for how things were left with her sister and even her mom and she knows in her heart that will never be resolved in this lifetime. An authentic sorrow she will harbor for the rest of her time. - She isn't sure what MC 16 will really be. Some are saying its great, some not so much. She's happy to have public interest in her music other than just at Christmas time and doesn't really know why that interest ever went away. She doesn't have many expectations of it and will truly be fascinated to see if it can even do anything commercially at all. She thought she said good-bye with "Portrait" but maybe she will be saying good-bye with how she really thinks of things now, with "Going up Yonder". - Anderson is nothing but a moment. She knows she will always be OHOHO.

The first point is interesting. The rumour once was that the real Mariah was happily married to Tommy, but died in 1996. The "new Mariah" came to take her place, but the separation and divorce was fabricated to present the new image and sound to detract from the fact the new Mariah's vocals were not up to the OG Mariah's. All the songs that were sung well (mainly ballads on Butterfly) were actually half finished left over songs the original Mariah had recorded but not yet released. Since then the voice has been AI and Mariah's been replaced every so often.

My other what if is, "what if Mariah didn't end up with Tommy?" like what if Warner Brothers ended up winning the bid and signing Mariah? I wonder how much this would have changed the trajectory of her whole entire career.

Yes, I always say Tommy wasn't good for her private life, but for the music and for the business he was the best. He knew what he was doing, the years from the debut to 96 are the reason why she's the legend since late 90ies.
