I would not be (82,080)
by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)

I would not be bothered by her working with Timbaland but as much as I am happy for CardiB and her accomplishments I don't think her and MC should test the musical waters. It would look like a desperate attempt to be cool and right now with everything going positive desperation is not necessary. A great body of work along with the proper image and as long as everything is in the proper place the end results should be great.

How about "Rise and Fall", "Evolution" or "Clarity"? Daydream is my all-time favorite title from her. Love it, no title would have been better than that. Daydream is the perfect description and mood. Though I like all the short titles, TEOM started this strange thing with the long titles. Yes, maybe Mariah finds it funny.

I Like That (82,076)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|
|
So Janelle Monae dropped a fourth single from her forthcoming Dirty Computer project. The song I Like That is absolutely smooth, laid back and beautiful. I immediately imagined Mariah singing it. While Janelle's voice is pure and clear and amazing, I was also hearing Mimi's voice with its fragility and flaws. The lyrics are amazing and the song instantly catchy. I hope Mimi finds a good mix of good songwriters and hits the right tone with her coming project. And dare I say, that if she's not feeling it, or if things have changed with her announcement, that she pull the project back if it's not what she feels it needs to be. Ultimately, I hope she is really getting herself together.

Number one, I didn't say her career is in the best shape right now. Number two, I was responding to Andrew because I feel that there is never anything but negativity coming from his so-called tough love posts. Number three, I am not a career advisor so how am I going to consider myself qualified enough to offer such advise. You clearly didn't read my message properly because your reply is full of words that you're saying I said that I actually didn't. What I said, and I'll repeat, she doesn't need to change who she is. Who are you to say what's fake or not? You don't know, you don't know her, I don't know her, we just have what we witness to work with, but you can't make educated assumptions, just as I can't, because we have never met her for a long enough period of time to know who she actually is. What I said was, regardless of career, she must never change, not for the sake of that her career or us or anything because she is a human being and she is valid just as we all are, whether people enjoy us or like us or not. If I could assume to give her advice, it would be just to truly be herself, get the right support she needs (medication, people, the right employer) so that she can actually give herself as she is. I don't want her to sit there being sensible and business like all the time, because she's not a lawyer or a doctor, she's an entertainer, and an artist, and I love seeing the many different aspects of a person, be it happy or sad or manic or stable. I love that she has shown so many sides of her huge personality, and you have no right to say what is fake or not. It may seem fake to you, we can't tell you how you feel, but you or I have no right to state as fact who or what she is. She is Mariah, and I for one hope she continues to simply be Mariah.

Hopeful for new Timbaland songs and Cardi B (82,073)
by Bobby A from United States

I just finished listening to Cry Me A River by Justin Timberlake. This is the kind of song Mariah needs to write with Timbaland. I hopeful for at least two new Timbaland songs. Plus I would love to see collaborations with Cardi B, DJ Mustard, Babyface/ Antonio Dixon, and Malay. Something tells me a new single is coming in May or June.

(82,060) and (82,063) (82,072)
by Edward from USA

Anthony and JD, so you guys don't see anything valid in Andrew's post just because it's Andrew? Going into a diatribe as to how such a miserable disgusting human being Andrew is doesn't do anything for her. Neither of you offered any advice Mariah could use to further a career, that according to you both, is good and the only thing needed is a good single. People, including most of her remaining fans are tired of her fake shady diva persona, it's annoying, it's not fun, comes across as arrogant and over the top. This supposed resurgence of fans on social media didn't translate into sales when MIAM came out, because they're just numbers and don't really mean anything. Out of millions of followers only fifty thousand people went and bought the record when it first came out. I don't think her "old tired R&B with a rent-an-unknown rapper" formula would work just because it's Mariah Carey. She has cheapened her brand and her name alone doesn't sell anymore. You two sound like Stella empowering Mariah on her train-wreck to suicide. If you two really think that Mariah is just Ok and fun the way she is, I guess you're going to have to buy 100 copies of her next album because she's going to need your support, and even then, you'll have your rude awakening. Yes, we need a new Mariah, an authentic one, the one she's buried underneath all the superficial shady and fake stuff a long time ago.

I agree. I loved the "Daydream" album title all the more when Mariah said she named it that because the songs all had this dreamy vibe to them and that the album was one continuous mood throughout. It made it much deeper than a word plucked from the chorus of Fantasy. Equally I felt Emotions was a brilliant album title because of the range of moods the songs had. Joyously happy, desperately sad, inspiringly spiritual, hauntingly melancholic. Keep it simple. I feel she's been trolling us with these recent ridiculous album titles. So far, Andrew's suggestion gets my vote.

I think the album title should be born from the songs that are on the album. She's good at choosing titles that go with the theme of the album.

I think most of her diva antics occured during her manic episodes. Besides, as long as she looks good and her music is good the general public doesn't care if she's a diva demanding puppies backstage.

"Because You Don't See It". is my album title suggestion. It's a phrase that means something to me (not necessarily good, not necessarily bad either), and I think may mean something to Mariah too, given her current situation. That is all.

Wow. I've been reading this forum for ages and never quite had the balls to say this, but I think a lot of people feel the same way. You're basically wanting her to act how she did from 1990-1996 which is not her and will never be her. She has a newfound resurgence in popularity across social media because of her personality and that's not something to stifle. If Mariah acted as boring as you and Tommy wanted her to be then I honestly wouldn't even be a fan. That's why Mariah is Mariah and not Celine Dion. If you want to stan somebody who does nothing but be safe and "likeable" in their career and dresses how you think is "age appropriate" then go be a fan of Celine. I imagine following her is like watching paint dry. The entirety of what makes Mariah so special to me is both her voice and her personality. If you think for a second her new management is going to beat every piece of personality and quirk out of her then you're crazy. Either go be a fan of somebody flavorless and bleak like Celine or watch miserable old videos of Mariah back when she fit into the mold you want her to be in.

Something tells me (82,062)
by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)

Something tells me that we are in for a treat with this new era ahead. I believe that M is about to be very raw and candid musically. I suspect that she is looking at this era as another moment of freedom and finding herself again. I suspect that this new album is going to be classic elements of M mixed with where she wants to take us with this new musical journey. Also these upcoming tour stops will be the classic stuff mixed with where she is now musically. I can also see her paying homage to the different eras of her career image wise during this tour as well which would be cool.

That's a very valid point, but keeping in mind she's not a fresh ingenue with rabid confidence and untainted pipes, maybe 40 minutes is all she can solidly manage? Plus I am certain she no longer does vocal rest since she has 6 year old to yell after, so that could also be a factor. Even if all things being equal, the 90's pipes aren't there so only time will tell.

Umm, no. She doesn't need to come across as a different person, or with a different persona, or a different anything. She's quite unique in the world and she should come across as her. Not what you, or I, or a thousand others would "advise", but just as her. Whether you laugh this off or not (which you will) you're a nasty, unkind and thoughtless man with no regard to anybody else's experiences of the world but your own. And thus, unwilling to understand and accept another's way of being or point of view. I know exactly what you will think when you read this, Andrew, yet I don't care because I'm going to say - you are a repulsive human being with a very negative view on life. And people who tell you they think otherwise are far stronger and kinder people than me, because they will tell you you're fine. And yes, I did say people should be themselves, and I don't want or ask you to change, but I find you inherently distasteful and nasty. And you're continuing to come here thinking you're right and just being honest and know what's best for Mariahs career, no you're wrong for her as a person because as likeable as you might force her to be to recreate the glory of the golden years you'd stifle a unique, beautiful and vulnerable person. Shame on you. Shame.

I am really rooting for her too. Mariah got one of the best voices in music. Plus her songwriting game is off the hook. Us as her fans should root for her. I just want to say thank you Mariah for coming out with your diagnosis of bipolar disorder. I also have a mental illness and it is because of you that I am not ashamed. You are a voice of the voiceless. I can't wait for the new music.

I wonder how much singing Mariah is actually doing. Take a 15 song, 1.5hr show. If each song is 4 minutes on average that's an hour worth of songs without the filler and bluster. If Mariah lips, let's say, a third of each track, that's 40 minutes of time where singing is required. It isn't enough to be considered strenuous, is it?

I salute your optimism young Brandon but I think there is a little more to it than just an amazing single. Mariah needs to come across as a different artist, a different person with a different approach. In her appearance, she would do well to simplify and naturalise her look: out with the clown make-up, ball gowns and jewelry. It would show people that she has a renewed sense of confidence. In her behaviour, she would do well to act with the confidence of someone in control of their life and artistry: out with the fluttering eyelids, touching of the hair, touching of the silicone bags and an end to the demure princess type of approach. Assertion of herself as a powerful and honorable woman would have people respecting her again. She needs to leave desperate sexiness behind. I think her age is too far down the line for her to pull that behaviour off now. And definitely, in attitude, she would do well to lose the victim status and speak with positivity and be inspiring. Once upon a time she had this all down to a T but for the best part of a decade she has lost her way. I hope this is all instruction that RocNation is giving her. Then, who knows? Perhaps she will not languish in musical obscurity any longer. The public are unforgiving but might re-award credibility if lessons are learned.

That in the last few years Mariah has been doing shows on consecutive nights? This is after early on in her career she said she needs time (specifically two days) between shows to rest her voice for it to fully recover to perform her songs again. We would have all noticed in recent years she does shows night after night, especially at Beacon. Now looking at the pic posted this morning, there is the gap again - think she is really caring and focussing on her voice again or this is just coincidence?
